Lagos is one state in Nigeria that can afford to be a country of its own, without taking any loan from anybody. This statement is entirely true as long as they have access to the oil in the Niger Delta. The economy of Lagos was built by money from other parts of the country. Lagos has no major mineral resources and the indigenes are not one of the best educated in Nigeria. Highly intelligent people from different parts of the country moved Lagos to where it is today and most of them were raised and educated in other states.

Now, the question is should Lagos state alone take all the proceeds of the labour and investment that smart people from other states put in to bring the state to where it is today or should there be a form of reparation in the spirit of brotherhood and 'justice'?

this is the analysis of a typical northerner who wouldn't want to embrace innovations but will sit back to share the proceeds from others hard work and sweat. Have you considered the impact of pressure from endless migration from nooks and cranny of other part of the country to Lagos?

Many still don't understand the write up or the VAT debacle yet they want to write something. Nigerians are very sentimental people that is why we can hardly get things right.

However the proposal by the HoR is a welcome development as it will create soft landing for the over 30 states that are insolvent.

The bitter reality is that if States are to take control of their respective state VAT over 30 states of the federation can't meet up going by their current standing.
Apart from Lagos, Rivers, Oyo, Ogun and one or two States in the SS including FCT, the remaining States are insolvent. Yet their indigenes won't allow us on nairaland about state control whereas their Governors are scared to stand on their own.

Every progressive minded indigene should embrace vat collection from state. This will encourage other state do more in generating VAT for their respective state. It's shear injustice of a state to generate VAT while others sat down doing nothing and the money is shared to them. How do you want those state to progress?
