CrimeCouple Accused Of Selling Baby Online For Iphones, Expensive Shoes by uceee(op): 3:33pm On Oct 18, 2013
SHANGHAI, China —
Prosecutors in China say a
couple sold their baby girl
online and then used the
profits to purchase
iPhones and expensive
shoes.
According to Shanghai
Daily, the young suspects
have been charged with
human trafficking after
selling the infant for
about $8,200.
The Shanghai couple is
reportedly unemployed
and had already exceeded
the nation's legal limit of
two children.
See more trending stories
In the online offer for
their daughter, the couple
allegedly wrote that they
couldn't afford to raise
the child and were
looking for a wealthy
family to adopt.
Investigators say the
suspects then wound up
using the money to shop
online for the smart
phones and other high-
end items. On Friday, the
couple appeared in court
to dispute they sold the
child and to argue that
they simply gave the child
to a family that could
better care for her. But
prosecutors say they have
evidence of a large cash
deposit being made to the
suspects' bank account.
Prosecutors also
allege the sale was
planned for months, with
the mother even trying to
hide her pregnancy by
telling neighbors her baby
bump was the result of a
large tumor.

CrimeRe: Businessman Murdered In Lagos For Refusing To 'Settle' Area Boys by uceee(m): 3:49pm On Oct 16, 2013
The day we shun this silly tribalism in this country eh. Immediately I saw this topic on the front page, I knew what to expect, but was still hoping not to find it. Unfortunately, the foolish Igbo & yoruba tribalists could not resist playing the blame game insulting each other. How sad and utterly disgusting.
I have bad news for you: Nigeria will remain 1 country for the next 50 years at least. You can therefore look forward to your miserable lives hating each other.
PoliticsRe: My Encounter With An Armed Robber This Afternoon by uceee(m): 9:20am On Oct 16, 2013
Sloan: Most Nigerians are getting more disillusioned and stupid not to connect the dots. The robber would not be trying to snatch your life and money if he had enough food to eat, jobs and a decent life! Notice this happened in Abia - iboland! OP, you are lucky your support for the retardeen did not cost you not only your N 2,500 but your life itself. Meanwhile the retardeen is flying 10 jets at N 9 B per annum and ibos are the ones shouting fresh air! The retardeen walks around with all the army, airforce, navy and police, so he will never have to worry about a petty robber that could have killed you. I am losing any sympathy for Nigerians because they deserve every suffering and crappy life they get, just looking at the comments of people on this website.

I live in a country where average, random people can afford to go and buy bird food and feed the beds of the air for fun in their car parks just before they start work in the morning. What a sight when you see like dozens or hundreds of birds, playing around in a parking lot, chirping while eating the food being given to them by someone who is just any average person. The birds were never hungry in the first place but just for the fun of it! Meanwhile, a lot of Nigerians cannot afford to eat and feed themselves decently without stealing, corruption or being involved in some vice. Well, you all deserve your suffering, no need to worry! I am glad I can read your horror stories from a huge distance and not have my life messed around by a bunch of stu.pid country men who elect foo.ls like retardeen GEJ and their useless governors.
I sense serious frustration here. Is there any country in the world devoid of criminals?
SportsRe: Suicide bombers Die In Failed Plot At Super Eagles Match In Ethiopia by uceee(m): 9:14am On Oct 15, 2013
Because they stoned our players, Nigerians are angry and some are already planning to retaliate. Now they have attempted detonating bombs, BH boys may be tempted to show their support for the super eagles. Naija security, be alert!!! God help us!!!

EducationRe: ASUU Strike: A Lecturer Speaks by uceee(m): 11:57pm On Oct 14, 2013
When the Yaradua led government signed the ASUU-FG 2009 agreement, they never really intended to implement it. ASUU had been on strike for a long time, so they just wanted the lecturers and students to go back to school.
A glance through that agreement will make it immediately obvious to you that it is not practical. Unfortunately, ASUU have refused to re-negotiate.

Anuoluwap: @OP you should have confirmed such info before coming to NL don't just post cause of attention. Do you want to know the reasons for that account being a parody acct?
1- NgOrganisations don't interact much with followers either on fb or twitter. But the person behind that account has got a lot of time.
2- The real account is @ASUUnigeria which is not functioning again. Meaning ASUU left twitter a long time ago.
3- Compare the two accounts the fake one has the email address as "ASUU_NIGERIA@yahoo.com but the ASUU I know has "info@ASUU-ng.org" as its email.
4- The real ASUU handle put their website address on their profile but the fake didn't bother about the website address.
Good job agent Anuoluwap.

EducationRe: ASUU Strike: A Lecturer Speaks by uceee(m): 8:46am On Oct 10, 2013
I really commend prof. Femi on a job well done. I have actually learnt a lot from his posts here. Unfortunately, he is gone now so this post won't make front page. It would have been more expository and interesting. Prof, you should not be offended by rude comments on this forum. In a faceless forum, where people cannot be held accountable for their words, people will insult anyone, anyhow they like. You can read how they insult the Nigerian president.
EducationRe: ASUU Strike Day 100: Share Your Thoughts by uceee(m): 6:02pm On Oct 08, 2013
I am an academic (a "lecturer" ) and I have decided to spend some time over the next few days educating students and other stakeholders about the important issues surrounding the ASUU strike. OP's view of academics, as revealed by the excerpt from his post above, seems to be one that is very popular among students, which is unfortunate, as it is, for the most part, wrong.

To borrow from something I wrote elsewhere on this site, it is true that there is a selfish element to ASUU's strike (only to the extent that every other Nigerian is selfish, because if you don't fight for your entitlements in this country, you will never get them). However, there is a much bigger issue at play. For the sake of our future, we need to get education (especially tertiary education) right. Fact is, tertiary education is VERY expensive, and this being Nigeria, nobody wants to pay for it. Not the government, Not the students, nor their parents.

When people hear ASUU suggesting that Nigeria should spend closer to the UNESCO recommendation on education, they scoff as if there is something they know that we don't. Can you explain how GHANA (of all places; not even the US) and South Africa manage to spend such huge portions of their budget on education? And yet, the students we produce are supposed to compete with the products of those places (as well as those from the real global powerhouses, lest you forget). Let me tell you something. With the way our two educational systems are set up, Ghana has laid the foundation to be Nigeria's big brother in the next few decades. And it has started. We are already seeing a brain drain to...Ghana!

My friends, I could say, with no melodrama intended, that the current fight for tertiary education is a fight for the very future of our country.

Contrary views welcomed.
My view is that ASUU have not utilised the funds available to them well. I.e school fees and all the other funds they generate. Can they then be trusted to make the best use of the funds they are demanding?
EducationRe: ASUU Strike Day 100: Share Your Thoughts by uceee(m): 5:25pm On Oct 08, 2013
ideyvexnow: I sense a lot of sarcasm in this sentence.

It is annoying that you seem to enjoy the rot, neglect and total decay of infrastructure in Nigeria's Government Owned Universities.

This have turned Nigerian University Graduates into Laughing stock outside this country and yet people like you have the guts to open a thread here to attack the Lecturers who are sacrificing their salaries just make the teaching and learning environment a better place for you and your children.

This is just sad.
Point of correction. Nobody is sacrificing his salary for anything.
