Do you ever wish for a second chance NYSC? I wish in the light of what l knew l missed.

My NYSC ( Kura, Kura LGA Kano State; June 1994 - May 1995 ) was a lost opportunity for personal empowerment and entrepreneurial orgasm. It was a mother of time wasting. Half of the service year l spent at home (Festac, lagos) lazing about. The other half at my primary assignment underemployed and underutilized ( only 5 hrs a week teaching Social Studies at Islamic School).

In retrospest, it was the best opportunity for self-discovery:

* to learn new skill - for example l should have used my idle time to offer free service to a business centre located in my compound in exchange of free computer training and sow the seed of post -NYSC business ownership
* to try non-traditional life experiments - buying & selling, street trading, etc - and experience real life living as against academic theories.
* to sharpen my entrepreneurial mindset.
* to discover the hidden opportunities around me wailing to be discovered

How was your NYSC? What would you do different if given a second chance? What special thing or action did you take that still impacts your life for good today? What advice would you give to present or future Corpers in the light of your experience?

Become a middleman and use the opportunity to understand the nitty gritty of vehicle busniess.

The adavange is that you have nothing to lose in terms of start-yp coat the business collapses and everything is it succeeds.

1) Saudi Arabia has more serious leaders than Nigeria

2) They don't import  fuel like Nigeria.

3) They utilised their petro dollars better than Nigeria

4) Their State equivalent of NNPC ( ARAMCO) is a benchmark for refining excellence and energy leadership

5) A few corner their oil wealth but use it to develop their country

6) They have diversified thier oil wealth by investing in Europe and America.

7) They display a modicum of seriousness in governance than Nigeria

They are of more strategic importance to USA and the world than Nigeria

9) Who cares about our country Nigeria? For all our oil supply, the world can always do without us.

When we put our house in order and have TRUE LEADERS (NOT RULERS) OR SHOULD I SAY ROBBERS(notice the similarities) , the world would be eager to associate with us.

I wish l can help you but l can't.

Why would you import a right-hand drive truck when you know it is banned in Nigeria? We blame government on eveything which is probably right but in our own little way we contribute to the miasma in Nigeria.

You could never import a left-hand drive vehicle into UK?

Lets do our little best to help Nigeria so as to give our future generations a chance.

It amuses me when Nigerians - particularly at home (eg ;AjaraEwuro &Ogororo) bandy the arguement that Diaspora Nigerians are returning home in troves because of recession asuch people who desire to  travel out - even with golden opportunities such as visa lottery - are risking their life. The worst recession in other less developed third world countries - much more  U.S.A - is the best of economic times in Nigeria. Nigeria has been in recession for almost 50 years of its existense. What we have in Nigeria is not even recession or depression. Infact there is no word for it in English Language

Americans are crying and commiting suicide because of 9-10% of employment rate. In my beloved country Nigeria, we have lived with 80-90% unemployment rate since "time Imo river". Even with the recession in USA, the unemployed are pampered: they receive unemployment benefits, career  assistance,  financial support for skill acquisition and retraining, COBRA health insurance etc.

How many of  millions of unemployed Nigerians receive help from the three tiers of  government?

Please spare us those lame arguements!

P.S. I am returning back to Nigeria after 8 years in USA but it is not because of the recession

I need to ask you this question:

Have you gotten the visa or you are in the process of getting it?

If No, then you need to get married and get the visa at the same time. She may join you much later within the valid duration of the visa. At least that will reduce the travelling expense and give you some time to earn some money while in the States.

I advise you. Do not travel alone and believe you will file for her immediately. I REPEAT DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE.

You will remain separated for 5 years until you become a citizen.

My dad did it and it took the family 7 - 8 years to join him. So many of my friends are in the predicament.

The economical, physical and emotional cost is steep. With both of you travelling together, you can adjust easily and  leverage two earnings. Even the bible says two is better than one.

The only challenge is meeting the poverty threshold for two people. If you have some one that can help with financial affidavit of support, that will make things easier.

Why is modern vehicle maintenance and repair beyond the reach of most Nigerian vehicle owners?

Is it that most Nigerian vehicle owners are "penny wise, pound foolish"  so they are reluctant to invest in modern vehicle maintenance or that the modern repair centres are Shylocks due to their monopolistic prices

Your ad is a contradiction. You are advertising your services online, yet in your profile, you email address is hidden and your website is unlisted.

If l were a SME interested in your service, l would rethink my interest: how can you advise me on how to grow my small business when you can't even showcase your internet aptitude.

Why would you send a valuable item through USPS knowing that they have to deliver through NIPOST- their counterpart in Nigeria - which unfortunately is plagued by the "Nigerian factor"

I only send documents/magazines/books through USPS to Nigeria knowing that if it loose in transit, it is always replaceable.

What is the CAC fee of changing some particulars of an incorporated limited liability company

Particulars such as:

* Corporate address of the company
* Removal of a partner and transfer of the allocated share to a new partner
* Change of home address of one of the partners
* Can this changes be made directly with CAC or does one require a lawyer
* How long does does it take to effect this changes.
* If one were to hire a lawyer, what will be the likely cost

You are absolutely right that serviving a car is the bulk cost of vehicle ownership. But I am curious to find out details of the 1-yr Free Servicing and Free Tow Service

Does the 1-yr Free Servicing include the following:

* Free Oil Change @ manufacturer's recommended intervals
* Free Coolant, Power Steering Fluid, Free Transmission Fluid etc
* Free Vehicle System Flush and Flush Care
* Free Labour on any repair work performed
* Free Manufactured Scheduled Maintenance Services

Enahoro should shut up until he joins his maker in agony, pain and shame which cannot be assuaged even by the comfort of heaven. At 85 , he is now belatedly espousing the ideas and vision (conferedation, regional control of economic resources, reduced and limited power to the center) Ojukwu at 35 advocated for which he was labeled a secessionist and power maniac.

The war would never have been fought and indeed Gowon and his northern brothers would have never repudiated the Aburi Accord, much more challenged Biafran Independence through war, if Enahoro and his growing club of frustrated and disappointed southerners had seen the pre-Biafran issues as a battle against the bankrupt Northern elites quest to control the commanding heights of Nigeria

Instead they saw it as an Igbo issue and happily fought on behalf of the powers-that-be against the larger interest of their own tribe and future generations. They hen of myopism and igbo phobia has since come home to roost.

What a shame! After 48 years of independence and over $500 billion in oil money alone, all Gowon can say about Nigeria's @ 48 is "all hope is not lost"

What intelligence and creativity do you need to learn money to Dangote Industry. He will always pay given his assets.
