The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has assured its returning members that there is adequate room for them in the party.

According to a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja on Tuesday,

the assurance was given by the National Working Committee (NWC), which reassured of ”ample and unhindered accommodation to all individuals, genuine political interests and alignments returning or freshly coming into the party’s fold from other political parties.”

The statement said “as the name of our great party connotes, the PDP remains a people-oriented party, belonging to all Nigerians and as such will continue to accommodate and provide equal opportunity for all Nigerians to freely aspire, even for the highest position in the land, irrespective of creed, tribe or even previous party affiliation.”

It added: “With our re-engineered mechanism for credible internal democracy, the PDP has now been repositioned as the epicentre of the new broad-based political engagement, where primary elections, at all levels of aspiration, guarantee level playing field to all members, old, new and returning alike, in line with our commitment to engendering a healthy democratic culture in our dear nation.

“In that regard, therefore, the PDP, will not in any way or under any guise whatsoever, exclude any Nigerian, but unreservedly embrace all who genuinely seek membership of our great party, especially at this critical time in our national life.

“Consequently, our party structure at all levels have been well guided not to engage in any activity that may directly or indirectly tend to exclude any Nigerian that has shown interest in returning or freshly becoming a member of our great family.”

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, on Monday accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring various killings in the country and must be held responsible for the death of innocent Nigerians.

Secondus while speaking at the headquarters of the party in Umuahia, Abia State, also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure free, fair and credible election in 2019.

He warned that Nigerians would resist any attempt by INEC to rig the elections in favour of the APC.

Secondus, who was on a three-day working visit to the state, said the “PDP is on a mission to recover the land from the APC.”

He said: “APC government has collapsed. They must be held responsible for the killings in various parts of the country.

APC government has empowered the Fulani’s with the power to kill.

“They (APC) must be blamed for the mismanagement of the country’s economy. There is hunger in the land.

They (APC) are broken bottle and should brace up and get ready to leave because Nigerians are tired of playing politics with the killing of innocent Nigerians and hunger which they inflicted on Nigerians.

“The APC government has run down the economy of the country. They can no longer protect the lives and property of Nigerians.

They have run down the National Assembly that is why Nigerians are yearning for PDP to come and take over power from the APC.

We are moving gradually, but working to rescue the nation from the mess that APC has thrown it into. We are not going to allow the APC to rig election in 2019.

That is why we are saying that the best gift Buhari will give Nigerians is to conduct a free, fair and credible election, after which Buhari will retire to his house honourably because we know that Nigerians have seen that the APC has failed abysmally”.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, says that Nigeria is going through what it never bargained for in All Progressives Congress administration with its “nuclear nepotism form of government.”

The PDP boss told the party’s caucus at the National Assembly on Tuesday night , that all hands must be on the deck to save this country from the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.



Secondus described the Buhari regime as a monumental disaster.

A statement issued by the Media Adviser to the PDP chairman, Mr. Ike Abonyi, in Abuja on Wednesday, said that Secondus who led other members of the National Working Committee of the party to the National Assembly, said they came to rub minds and see how “we can save this country. “

Secondus said, “I have come with members of the NWC of our party to thank you for the mandate you gave us at the successful National Convention last year and to charge you to redouble your efforts for the eventual humiliation of the APC in 2019.

“The National Assembly is the centre of national politics, Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gun powder waiting to explode, only the PDP can save it.”

Secondus said that Nigerians had seen what they never bargained for in the last 32 months of the APC administration, adding that “ people are being killed on a daily basis, nuclear nepotism is in vogue, you have to come from Daura to be appointed into a federal position.

“This is the time for all to stand up to save this country and all eyes are on the PDP to lead the way, I am ready and determined even to be arrested for us to regain our liberty in this land.

“What we have ruling Nigeria today at the Villa is a broken party and a broken government, spiritually the APC has already left the Villa, what we must fine tune is the physical accomplishment.”

The PDP chairman charged its NASS members to brace for the challenges ahead since they were the leaders of the party at the grassroots.



He assured them that the NWC under his leadership “are not going to be in Wadata, we are taking the party to the grassroots where the true owners reside.”

The meeting was attended by all the PDP members in the Senate and House of Representatives including the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, the Minority Senate Leader, Godswill Akpabio.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Uche Secondus, has said the new coalition led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo was not a threat to a possible PDP victory in the 2019 general elections.

Mr. Obasanjo mentioned the need for the coalition in his famous letter to President Muhammadu Buhari. The coalition is believed to be gaining momentum and reportedly enjoys the support of some governors and lawmakers.

Mr. Secondus was quoted as making the statement on Sunday in Asaba, Delta State, during a reception organised by the Delta State chapter of the PDP.

The reception was done ahead of the meeting of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party on Sunday night.

The reception was attended by Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia; as well as National Assembly members elected on the platform of the party.

“The new coalition will never be a threat because we are a solid political party founded by our founding fathers. We are solid on the ground, and I believe that they are a threat to the other parties and not our party.”

Mr. Secondus said he believed Nigerians were disappointed with the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, and were prepared to vote out the APC government in the 2019 elections.

He also said the PDP would no longer impose candidates and would devolve powers to its state chapters.

“We vowed not to repeat the order of imposition, and we have reassured our leadership and our people that we will devolve power down to the states so that they can take responsibilities and make sure that whatever names that are submitted would not be changed.”

The opposition leader also spoke on the possibility of return of some top PDP members who joined the All Progressives Congress in the build-up to the 2015 general elections.

Some of those include Senate President Bukola Saraki, and ex-governors Musa Kwankwaso and Danjuma Goje.
Mr. Saraki and his political ally, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara have denied planning to return to the PDP.

“I believe that they would soon come back,” Mr. Secondus said. “There is fear in the country, and very soon, you will see political tsunami that even the members of the ruling party would be coming en-mass to the PDP,” Mr. Secondus said.

“The Buhari administration is a colossal failure, and the entire country is aware of this.”

The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, while speaking, stressed that the party and the government in the state were strong and doing well.

“We are not afraid to go to the people because we are doing a lot despite the economic challenges facing us.”

In his speech, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers appreciated Delta residents for their support for the PDP,

He therefore urged the people to work harmoniously to help defeat the APC in 2019.

The Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) and it's Governors' Forum met in Asaba, Delta State on Sunday, 4th February, 2018 to examine the state of the nation.

Our Communique reads:

1. We strongly condemn the unabated killings across the country. We call on Mr. President to come out clean on the herdsmen killings and address the nation on how to end the carnage. The President must take responsibility on the protection of lives and property of Nigerians which is the most important of his responsibilities. We believe that the Federal Government's decision to set up a Committee to address the issues of herdsmen killings is a pretentious approach to a matter thst requires firm action and leadership by the President in line with his oath of office to protect all Nigerians irrespective of creed, tribe and political affiliation.

2. The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has been the author of restructuring and this was further expressed in the Report of the 2014 National Conference. The All Progressive Congress (APC) as a later day convert of restructuring is merely paying lip service to a matter of national importance. However, we have mandated our members in the National Assembly to immediately commence the process of initiating a Bill to address issues bothering on restructuring.

3. We urge Mr. President to henceforth direct the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to adhere to the Rule of Law by obeying Court judgements and orders such as the one involving the Ekiti State Government against EFCC and restrain itself from further political intimidation and harassment of known or perceived political opponents. We commend the judiciary for their commitment to the enthronement of constitutional democracy in the face of intimidation and harassment.

4. We condemn in strong terms the massive corruption going on in the management of fuel subsidy regime which the Federal Government had declared non existent while billions of Naira are deducted monthly at Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meetings.

5. The PDP states and local governments are vehemently opposed to the unilateral withdrawal of USD1Billion from the Excess Crude Account by the Federal Government under any guise. We want to state unequivocally that neither the Governors' Forum nor the Federal Executive Council has the power of appropriation of Federation Accounts, as such powers reside with the National and State Assemblies.

6. We commend members of our party for their unalloyed support. We reiterate that our repositioned party is prepared for the 2019 elections and will ensure that all Nigerians aspiring to elective offices are free to contest on the platform of the PDP. We want to assure that no established organ of the party is allowed to align with any presidential aspirant. We thank the people and government of Delta State for playing host to this all important meeting.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has questioned the credibility of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to conduct a free and fair election in 2019.

Uche Secondus, national chairman of the party, expressed his reservations on Wednesday, when a United Nations (UN) delegation visited him at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

According to Secondus, the PDP, in its 16 years in power, was guided by the rule of democracy while conducting elections.

He said since it assumed power, all the elections conducted by the APC “came with huge question mark”, causing fear in the minds of Nigerians.

“Over the years, we were in power as a party for 16 years to be precise. We midwived and deepened democracy. In the last 2015 election, we lost and conceded defeat, without attempting to go to court,” Secondus said.

“On record, it is the first time it has ever happened in this country. We did not go to court and our candidate did not go to court.

“We realised it was democracy and the will of the people. But we have fears today that since APC came to power, all the elections we have conducted came with huge question mark.

“As a matter of fact, this (INEC) is the only electoral body that has conducted elections several times and they (government) will call for a re-run when it is not in their favour.

“Look seriously in the area of free and fair elections that guarantee security. This is a point that must be noted by the UN body that what they have done in the past; the electoral umpire and the federal government have not guarantee free and fair elections. We are very very worried whether 2019 will be free and fair.

“The entire country is worried, not only PDP, it is across the board. All the other political parties are very worried because of what is happening today in the country.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is a cog in the wheel of the nation's democracy, adding that the nation must be saved from total collapse.

Addressing former ministers of the PDP who visited him Thursday in Abuja, the PDP Chief Executive Officer, Prince Uche Secondus said it was time for the opposition party to brace up and seize power in the interest of Nigerians.

"APC has failed woefully. Our nation is in a situation where PDP must save this nation from total collapse. The government of APC has become lame duck after the former President Obasanjo has released a political tsunami and verdict on the government," he said.

‎Secondus charged the ex-ministers to return to their constituencies and mobilise Nigerians ahead of 2019, ‎saying the NWC was putting all the necessary measures in place to conduct transparent congresses and primaries.

"We will go strictly and abide by our constitution and our rules. That is the promise of the NWC. Our laws must be obeyed, our rules must be obeyed, we must follow them precepts by precepts in order to restore confidence to our people.

"We also intend to devolve power, because over the years, so much powers have been concentrated at the center. And we discovered that the only way to do it is to devolve power to the grassroot. And our slogan explained it all, power to the people. So the people can decide not the people in Abuja or NWC.

‎"No one single individual can direct, it must be collective leadership. That is what is going to give us victory.‎ Very soon, we shall roll out our programme, we are going to go back online membership drive and it is going to be aggressive," he said.

‎Chairman of the Ex-Ministers' Forum and former Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki said,"We expect that with the kind of leaders we have in our NWC now, the war to bring back what rightly belongs to us has started.‎

"As you begin your crusade of saving democracy in Nigeria, crusade of saving Nigeria from hunger, from poverty, from insecurity, from hopelessness and joblessness, it should be at the back of your mind that the colossal knowledge, experience and technical know-how at the disposal of the former ministers is there for you to tap."
