I am always gladdened whenever someone is able to learn a thing or two from my posts / write ups. One way or another we learn everyday, there is no knowledge that is wasted and you never know when the little nuggets of information could come in handy in a very practical way.

The major health concern for which I breed my bitches is that not breeding an "intact" bitch may predispose her to a higher risk of developing cancer. With the way I love my dogs coupled with the grim prognosis of cancer cases and the attendant vet bills, I do not wish to go through or risk putting any of my dogs through any of that. And I would go out of my way to ensure that such things are prevented, even if it means inconveniencing myself for the sake of the dogs.

I actually am a member of quite a few of these whatsapp groups. I do know some of the names you mentioned and have been approached by a few of them. Unfortunately, in matters of sales and marketing, breeders and vets are not always better. While some want to "regale" you with their "knowledge" like it is a basis for discount, others just want to make their own cut off your product. This is not to say that there are no good or sincere ones out there, there are, but there's really no real camaraderie in this country.

But for whatever it is worth, you could link me up with the group. There is no harm in gaining a wider network or expanding one's knowledge base.

Every idiot who has a dog locked up in a cage in his yard in Nigeria has an expert opinion on what they don't know. First,I answer to no one on the purity of my dog and I stand behind my word on anything I put forward. You should educate yourselves,talk less and listen more. Idleness is the bane of people around here. Do you respond to every advert you see on billboards on the road or that you hear on radio or see on TV? I see all sorts of dogs being put up all the time. If the dog is not my type of dog or I may not even need a dog at that time,I simply ignore and move on. If I'm interested,I'll talk to the person who placed the advert,ask the relevant questions and if negotiation works out,I buy.
For those who wanna correct me on my price, it's not up to you. Does it occur to you that I might have sold dogs even at a price higher than that before? I have someone on this dog,at that price. He can afford it and he likes it but he's inexperienced when it comes to handling a dog he didn't raise from puppy-hood and his wife's scared. When you see a dog you can't afford,simply ignore and walk on. To begin to question the seller on his price is sheer stupidity. And for the geneticists in the house who think they know Neos cuz they are used to seeing overdone,all wrinkled-up, webbed and splayed feet,ectropion-plagued show specimens on posters,the truth is you don't know! And if you think you know the true Neapolitan Mastiff more than I do,then you must be a Neo yourself. I have tons of pictures of working type Neo like this from rustic parts of Italy. The friend of mine who posted this dog here on nairaland has seen him in flesh and wants it. I advised him against it,not cuz the dog isn't good but for his need and lifestyle,the dog won't fit in. He simply put it here as a gesture on my behalf. Left to me,I don't do these dog forums (except one or two where a few of us working dog people have healthy discussions and exchange ideas)cuz I've come to learn that finding one reasonable person on these forums is like searching for evidence of intelligent life in Jupiter.

If you must talk about that dog,talk to him(the person who posted it) cuz you want it or you know someone who wants it. If you aren't interested,just ignore and move on. No one is asking you to buy at gunpoint.


*I showed my friend this thread and he gave me that to post here. He is an experience dog trainer, who I know has sold several dogs at more than that price. I wanted to buy the dog, but then he advised me to take an APBT because thats what suits my need now. I might have to post videos of his working dogs for some of you here.

I believe Cbay has said everything. What I found that worked for me is once I offer my dogs food. I leave it for 15 minutes. Whatever doesn't get eaten is thrown away or kept till the next meal time. After 2 days they were all eating properly without wasting time. Usually shadow can take the whole night to eat his food but once I started this method he eats everything because he knows I will pack it all up if he doesn't finish it.
Also make sure she doesn't have any illness that could be causing her loss of appetite. And always ask your vet what they are giving the dog before they administer. I never allow my vets to give my dogs anything before knowing what exactly it is they are giving them. It's sad to say but you know there are a lot of quacks out there who just want to make money.

About Nicky getting pregnant, you have to keep a close watch on her to know when she comes on heat, when her vulva (vagina) becomes bigger and blood dripping from there then you know she's on heat and ready to mate.

GSDs comes on heat every six(6) months on average. Ask the col. when last he noticed Nicky coming on heat that will help in your count and you have to tell col. so he will help you in checking in case you miss a day because knowing the exact day the heat starts really matters.

It might come this week, next month and so on. Your work starts now! lol Good luck with that!

That's great then if you step out before him. In that case i suppose it's youthful exuberance that's behind his excitement. It would wane with time but it never completely goes away. I walk my dogs every single day and they always get excited whenever they see me with their leashes. Always. From the oldest to the youngest, the reaction is always the same.

Hello uchpanila.

It should work for all foods, provided the dog was already and steadily eating the food without fuss or problems before the mixing with tinned food started. It is just like with little children, who after being introduced to a delicacy which they love so much suddenly decide that it is only the delicacy they want to eat forever and ever and therefore become stubborn when not given the said delicacy. It's not that they cannot eat the other food, but rather they would prefer the delicacy to it.

As a rule, whenever I acquire a new pup, I start it off with the food which I intend to use as it's regular staple meal from the very first day and continue solely with it (without mixing) for about 3 days to 1 week. After this time, I would have established that the pup has no issues with the food, and then I start mixing with tinned food. Thus, by the time the pup begins to make a fuss and refuse to eat the regular food, I introduce the corrective / disciplinary measures discussed earlier to get it back on track. A dog has no right to be picky with food it can eat normally when it is not the one paying for it, neither is it having to go out to scavenge for it's meals. As long as it is being fed well and regularly it should be content otherwise it should be made to learn the hard way that it is a privilege to eat free food.

Another important thing to note is that it is much easier to teach / raise a pup / dog in the way that it should grow from the get go than to correct bad behaviour. And this is why it is important to start off the dog with the regular food for a while before introducing the delicacies because it would be much much harder to get the dog to eat unmixed food if from the very beginning it had gotten used to food mixed with the delicacy (in this case the tinned food).

He's not new to the feed, the thing is that if you give him without the tinned food mixed he will either sniff and leave or eat very little and leave or eat little by little but if mixed with the tinned food he will make sure the plate is clean.

A good rule to follow; dogs should be made to see their meals as a privilege to be earned rather than as a right to be demanded.

are you doing this for a particular food or will it work for all food cos mine won't eat if not mixed with can food, want him to adapt to dry food, noodles and rice without mixing with can food
