But Texas is not doing badly either o

Great to have you here. What you are doing is commendable but I agree you may want to stick to fundamentally good stocks, especially if you are in for the long term. However, it is not sufficient that a business is fundamentally sound, the price should also be such that it gives you a "margin of safety" should things not go as you may have imagined they will.

As earlier indicated, your approach is commendable but another way of doing it - if you are able to conservatively value these good companies - is to be patient until an opportunity arises where the price is low enough for you to invest with sufficient margin of safety. You could invest your money in short-term fixed income securities or other highly liquid, low risk investments for the time being. If you can't conservatively value the stocks, then cost averaging might be fine.

In any case, periods of pessimism sometime provide buying opportunities but one still needs to carefully examine and determine what and which to buy.

"I will tell you how to become rich. Close the doors. Be fearful when others are greedy. Be greedy when others are fearful." - Warren Buffet.
“Buy when there’s blood in the streets.” - credited to Baron Rothschild.

And on margin of safety: "A margin of safety is achieved when securities are purchased at prices sufficiently below underlying value to allow for human error, bad luck, or extreme volatility in a complex, unpredictable and rapidly changing world." - Seth Klarman.
So tell me, what techniques do you use to determine the fair value of the fundamentally sound stocks, and you could also give me ten stocks YOU THINK are fundamentally sound stocks

your opinion

Thank you

I'm here to answer present.

I'm a potential value investor, as I dedicate a certain amount every month I throw into the equities market per month, more like funds I can afford to lose, or excess cash I got from a profitable deal

However practicing this overtime has made me see my capital grow, and I am shifting focus to.....

Maybe I should just pick fundamentally sound stocks and be buying them at intervals and piling them up, with the cashflow building up over time via dividends

That's why I'm excited about this thread.

once again, I'm here to mark present cool

And I am not holding brief for any of the past government but placing all the blame on them is not right.

It is high time things are done in a proper way. We cannot be running round in square circles. Time is running out for Nigeria in continuing with experiment. The other parts of the world are moving in a faster pace.
Some days ago people were rejoicing concerning Air Peace bringing in planes that have been overused by Emirates airline. I was just shaking my head.
We celebrate mediocre things while the rest of the world is advancing rapidly.

Buhari govt is NOT maintaining fuel price at N97 but 145 AND still subsidising fuel

Buhari's govt is taking full advantage of stamp duties provision, what has he done with that?

So many other blunders that i don't want to list here But still Nigerians hail him undecided

When he gave the impression that he has usurped the autonomy of Nigeria, naira went on a free fall.

When he tried capital controls, it fell even more

We experienced one of the worst capital flights and country in Africa has experienced in the new millennium, yet people still hail him.

Nigerians have died in their thousands under his watch

What ofthe numerous scandals of his govt or disobedience to court orders

He is lucky he still has a lot of media houses in his pocket, and a lot of brain dead people as followers

the list is endless, but since he still has a lot of followers, Nigeria deserves the leader they get.

Agreed, but revenue generation is not our "major" problem but the corruption in our revenue generating institutions, ever wonder how JAMB remmited 7.8billion revenue in a year, whereas 50m was remmited before in over 5years, same with FIRS, NIMASA, CUSTOMS, NNPC, NCC etc. If we should block the loopholes siphoning our common patrimony we'll be fine.
Also this govt has increased tax on some items and increased the tax basket. I know more can still be done but increasing the income tax of Nigerians still struggling with recession and poverty will be insensitive.

The solution to all the menace plaguing our nation is diversification of our economy and only fiscal restructuring will catalyse such process, as this will take the feeding bottles off the mouth of our greedy politicians and make them put on their thinking caps to explore other revenue generating frontiers aside oil.
Lastly, where we're today is the cumulative results on our actions and Inactions, so placing all the blame on buhari's table will be unjust. As a matter of fact I still maintain that he has so far "RELATIVELY" done better than the previous govt.
kicking that dullard out of aso rock is the first step towards restoring Nigeria

Replacing him with a lesser evil is necessary so that this man does not destroy Nigeria finally

Then after doing that, we will need to co operate with the next president too so that he can make impact

But then why ask Nigerians to select a leader when they don't know the attributes of a good leader?

Hmmmm,.... African governments must boldly ask these Western powers to key into this new ideology of win win philosophy between Africa/China and work within that framework. Any other thing outside that will spell doom for Africa eternally. The trade war U.S. have imposed on China is truly because of aggressive Chinese infrastructural development in Africa.... The west want to neutralize that trend. These tariffs from US to China is designed to acomplish among other things to reduce overall Chinese investments in Africa and increase within a short period of time the debt profile of African governments debts to China as African currencies lose values due to the trade wars. This will trigger a lot of changes in Chinese policies towards Africa & the West will be lurking by the corner to inject their poisoning IMF/World bank inspired policies/conditions. The new found love of humanity between China & Africa is shaking the world to its foundation and all thanks goes to President Xi Jinping.
this guy think China is here for win/win cheesy grin

Oga; China is here to rip us off even more in Africa, especially in those countries that they are romanxing their dictator leaders cheesy grin

Land grabbing, illegal mining and exploration, and unethical practices have grown in leaps and bounds since the Chinese stepped in

And you know what's worse, their govt back home covers them, unlike in the case of western corporations where if you get entangled in unethical practices abroad, you are in big trouble.

West, East or even from the moon, they are all here to cheat us

And as China is hungry for mineral resources that is beneath our feet, they will continue to come trick us

Africans need to deal with all these foreign powers at arms length, and then promote intra continental trade within themselves

dasall.

I want to ask you one simple question? Do you know how much debt this present administration has incured in comparison to previous regimes?

You can say what you like but Peter Obi is not an economic neophyte. Peter Obi has ran an excellent private business successfully. How many governors in this present Nigeria left seat with surplus funds. Do you know what Peter did for education, health care etc. When he was talking millinial devepmental goals he was spot on. He is spot on what he was saying. Most of you are completely ignorant.

When you are having debates(i don't argue) on social media platforms, you people should learn to avoid abuse and curses as you don't know who is on the other end. Back to the issue on ground, Nigeria is not a developed country as we both know. It is still a developing country and things are shaping out. We could have gone farther than this but no thanks to previous governments from 1960 till date. There is no single organization or government that is not owing but the question is what are you doing with the borrowed funds and how are you planning to reduce the amount you borrow subsequently? One thing that this administration has shifted to in terms of borrowing like the one they wanted to pick from the Chinese govt was for china to appointment key Chinese officials to closely supervise funds released to the Nigerian government on loan agreement which secures the fund as compared to what used to happen. My major worries is that the borrowed funds were stolen before that is why we can't pin point at significant things those funds were used for. Most of the projects you see now are fully funded on loans by Chinese companies with MOUs with the federal government. They don't release funds like before to miscreant that will siphon everything. That is why you are seeing few projects we can see now. With time things will change. AND POINT OF CORRECTION, I AM NOT DAFT AND DON'T USE THAT WORD ON ME AGAIN.
This govt has squandered a lot of money on substandard and ghost projects

Just like the govts before it.

Dealing with the Chinese who are unethical and ready to cheat us further is even a worse deal.

If I were the govt, id instead privatise the major highways and contribute a non contrition percentage to the completions of the project

That way I am less burdened with debt, my country will have functional highways, And I will have more energy and resources to face other things

But this is Nigeria undecided

The question you should ask yourself is with all these heavy borrowings, what do we have on ground to show for ithuh

you really want to compare U.S. debt with Nigeria 's debt

Are you serious? huhhuh?

The U.S. has the economic resilience to keep servicing their debt becsusethey have built an economy on a solid foundation
Nigeria on the other hand is accumulating what economists call "dead weight" debt
Nigeria 's economy is also built on a shaky foundation, susceptible to external shocks.
When that occurs, how do we cope

Not to talk about the crowding out as a consequence of high domestic borrowing and the effect it has in the private sector

And if care is not taken, our country will be in big soup in the next decade

So NEVER compare the debt profile or structure of America with that of a third world $hithole
The fundamentals are not the SAME
