Now this is a very cool video of the Uyo Stadium and its surrounding area. Video by AkSG enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vg1aZnQJYKQ |
Thats the national stadium lagos in the background still looks good all it really needs is a solid contractor with a contemporary design to transform it into a modern day marvel. Several countries have done this kind of refurbishment with excellent results.
|
CFCfan:That will be good too, but since LASG has its own stadium and the FG has the New national Stadium in Abuja, I don't forsee any enthusiasm in the part of any of these two entities in building another stadium in Lagos anytime soon. But A smart Private investor might, and its good to know that the have the option to buy and refurbish the old national stadium lagos or pull it down and replace it with a new stadium building if they care.no matter how you look at it, Building a new standard stadium with a high capacity in Lagos makes a lot of sense. |
ROSSIKE:IMO i think Lagos needs is to refurbish the dilapidated 55,000 seater National stadium with a capable contractor, design and put a roof over the stadium with morden facade and new and modern seats and accessories. It will cost less than a new stadium and provide Lagos with a standard stadium. I dont see either the state or federal govt. doing that any time soon, but the private sector might if a proper PPP is in place or the FG sales the stadium to a willing investor. |
aguiyi:Am sure okorocha has misappropriated all the ecological funds from your state. take the video to him so he can learn what to do with his state ecological fund. |
If you are looking for roads to drive your cars, come to Akwa Ibom, where the roads are smooth with no pots holes and usable day and night.

A responsible government uses its resources to address the problems of its citizens making the lives of its people better. In the midst of abuse of ecological funds across the country, one often wonders what the state are doing with those funds? Here is a mega erosion control project in Akwa Ibom to channelize storm water that was threatening flood prone areas of Uyo, the state caapital. The Pictures below are whats is going on at Dominic Utuk Avenue(brooks Street) in Uyo presently. All image credits dnaijaguy In Addition to the above; The state govt has also layed 3.7 km of underground drains pipes 40ft below the surface running from uyo to an out fall at Itam Itu LGA The Pipe jacking system has also been built at Abak LGA another erosion prone area of the state. This system of under ground drains is an engineering marvel in this parts of the world. A mega Surface Storm water drain traversingtwo LGA Constructed by JB to take flood water from the ibom tropicana it Uyo all the way to am outfall a natural spring in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA has also been under taken by this Administration. This Are all in addition to this current project that is ongoing and depicted on this thread. Indeed this are solid foundations layed for the future of akwa Ibom

nice^^^ |
homesteady:you can head on down to Uyo for the opening on the 7th it will be great. |
nigerianvenom:If you really want my view on the issue they are posted here https://www.nairaland.com/1256550/uyo-city-peace-beauty-pictures/57 i really dont feel like repeating myself. |
jazzydee:Like i said earlier it will be one of Gov. Akpabio's kitchen cabinet members past or present.I dont really care they are all the same to me. |
dhope:Messi and co do not play because the stadium is nice, they play because there is a club that is willing to pay them big bucks to play,Can Akwa united or any NPFL clubs pay messi type contact fee? |
Atouke:Cant we all be Akwa Ibomite? Igbos are all igbos eventhough we know they are variations in the way thay speak their root Igbo language same with the yourubas and hausas. their dialect ebonyi igbo, is different from Enugu Igbo language but they are all igbos. vis-a-vis hausa and Yorubas In Akwa Ibom State because of the variation of our root Efik/Ibibio Language we tend to see one another as different,The fact is we are not we are all Ibibios/ Efik people whether we like it or Yes! We will all Access Akpabios performance once he has finished performing as governor, but from the for going he is doing well. The proof will be in how much he will complete before he leaves office. So i will reserve my comment on that. |
Atouke:in politics you never use the word No in Absolute term for anything can happen. But in My Opinion looking at the political landscape in AkS It will be very unlikely for APC or any other political party to displace a PDP candidate in Akwa Ibom State guber. UOU, Ekere Or any other decampee would have to face Akpan udohedehe at the APC primary which they may likely lose. Besides which sentiment will they use to ride the garner votes from the masses into office. The Idea of Ibibios want power back is muted because Of Udom is an ibibio man The ibibios that will not vote for him will be in the minority and basically members of either UOU,EKERE, etc group. Majority of Ibibios who represent the largest voting block are already satisfied in the candidature of their own Udom who is the governors choice. Majority of Annangs the second largest voting block will vote the governors choice all that Udom need to do to ride into victory is divide the votes of the Ekets, and the Orons and he is in, barring any twist in the political dynamics of the state. Another thing PDP has going for them is that Akpabio Has satisfied the yearnings of majority of the people in the state in terms of delivering the visible dividend of democracy, a minority will disagree but it is generally acceptable in AKS and Nigeria today that he is a performing governor. All the campaign that the PDP needs is for Akpabio to keep commissioning projects, most of which are at advanced stages of completion, like the stadium. thats a big campaign issue for PDP in the state and nation, soon others like the Ibom tropicana, Hospital etc will be commissioned, He has project commisioning linned up from now till may, Those are big campaign bonuses for the PDP. As long as the people see their governor as performing they will vote for his choice of successor and also support his own senatorial ambition. |
Atouke:On the contrary, I did not discus zoning because, Zoning in a political sense is a false choice that politicians use when they want to confuse the polity in order for them to have their way. In the case of Akwa Ibom, Gov. Akpabio a very savvy political animal(whom i admire) Is just paying lip service to the term zoning, and using it for his advantage. 1). He is not a true believer in that term, which explains his flip flopping on the issue. favouring no zoning when UOU was in favour and not favouring it when he fell out with him. 2).If Gov. Akpabio Was a true disciple of zoning, he would have respected the zonning process of senate seat in his senatorial district to Abak. 3). If Gov. Akpabio Was a true disciple of zoning,The he would have respected the principle of zoning on ethnic bases and not the flawed SD bases. Can you imagine what would have happened if Victor Attah zone governorship to ikot Ekpene senatorial district and turned around and supported a candidate from the minority ibibios of Ikono or Ini LGA in that district? That is What our dear governor is doing In Eket SD. If he was sincere about zonning then it would have gone to Oron ethnic group, Since they Are the majority in Eket SD. Zoning is a term basterdized by politicians to have their way: 1). Gov. Akpabio Knew that the Ibibio's were ready to take back power from him no matter what, He came up with what i term a political masterstroke by claiming zonning but at the same time attempting to handover power to the same Ibibio. Udom who seem to be favoured is an Ibibio man from Onna! but onna happen to be one of the minority Ibibio's in Eket SD. That way Akpabio has managed to cunningly satisfy the Ibibio's By handing power back to them through the lacuna of zoning based on SD while apparently satisfying Eket SD. Gov. Akpabio is a very savvy politician in My view and it seems he will succeed in his succession plan because he has both the coffers of the government and the support of the majority ethnic group for his plan. barring any new twist in the political calculation i think Akpabio will have his way. And on Udoms experience, i have been reliably informed that he prior to being appointed SSG, He was the one moving and managing all the state funds from the background a defacto comptoller general of the state if you may. you dont get to move money for the state without knowing what the funds are for and how things work. In My Opinion Udom Has a better understanding of Akwa Ibom Politics, than His opponent seem to give him credit for, Do not underestimate the power of the purse,Remember that the man the controls the purse controls the organization/movement. |
Atouke:I hate dabbling into the madness of the so-called succession plan, But since you asked i will give you my thought: Of all the aspirant that are clamoring to succeed Akpabio, All of them were members of the governors kitchen cabinate at some point and hence in my opinion non of them is better than the other because all of them will spell continuity having been student of Akpabio style of politics. UOU, OBA, Ntekim, Eyo, Udom, Assam,Ekere etc. they are all the same am not going to cry over people who have all enriched themselves from the state coffers and are busy crying or smiling today based on who is favoured by Gov. Akpabio. The only Aspirant in my opinion who will bring an opposing/fresh/new view to leadership in Akwa Ibom State who are not and were never members of Gov. Akpabios kitchen cabinate are Senator Esuene and Akpanudohedehe and lets be real non of these two stand a chance of succeeding Akpabio in 2015. For me personally, It is very likely that Akpabio's successor will be any of his present or former kitchen cabinet members, so who ever amongst them succeeds will be good for enough for me, Since they are all schooled in the ideology/balance of stealing just enough that projects still gets completed and the state development is not grounded ie stealing but still able to provide tangible dividen of democracy. Akpabio has been hugely successful because he was a kitchen cabinet member of Gov. Victor Attah where he learnt the principles of governance what worked and what didn't and understood the issues our state had and how to go about solving them, And the huge 13% derivation allocation helped that journey. In My view all his members of kitchen cabinet past and present, that are clamoring to succeed him will do just fine in the absence of credible opposition. because they have also learnt for this Administration what is working and what is not, And I hope they have a plan on how to consolidate on what is working and improve what isn't. |
^^ I think the government has forgotton about this project, I dont hear any news about it as before, Possibly due to election and concentration on the Stadium. Am glad the stadium is now complete maybe Gov. Akpabio will focus his attention on other projects that are begging his attention before he leaves office may next year. Chief Amongst then is his signature project the Ibom Tropicana though the cinema and mall are complete, the hilton hotel, park, and convention centre are not,The 20th Anniversary hospital, this airport new taxiway/new terminal. How I wish the primaries/ election is done so they can focus on governing. |
Akwa Ibom Stadium Day and Night. Notice the night is already illuminated for the match between Nigeria VS Ghana. Do you notice Nigerian and Ghanaian Flags on the stadium!
