erunz: The commissioner of police in Plateau state, Nasiru Oki, has said two churches were on Monday set ablaze by angry persons protesting bomb explosion at a mosque Sunday night in Jos.
The commissioner of police made the disclosure Monday evening at the police headquarters in Jos.
While briefing journalists on the police’s investigations, he said no arrest had been made so far.
He noted that no life was lost in the church incidents but property allegedly worth millions of naira were destroyed.
Mr. Oki also said that 42 people were killed in the twin bomb explosions on Sunday. He said 20 people died in the first explosion at a restaurant while 22 others died in the second at a mosque.
He said 50 people were hospitalized for various degree of injuries and are being treated in hospitals within Jos.
He also presented an undetonated locally-made device recovered from the first scene. He said according to police bomb experts, the device was capable of destroying a complex.
The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, had said 44 people were killed in the twin bomb attacks, while the Plateau state government said only 18 people lost their lives.
Meanwhile, military check points have been restored in most parts of the state. All the disbanded military check points in Riyom, Barkinladi, Bauchi roads and those within Jos metropolis were remounted by members of the Special Taskforce on Jos crisis.
The police commissioner declined comment on the reappearance of military check points. He, however, urged residents to endure the development.
The state governor had appealed to President Muhamadu Buhari to allow the restoration of checkpoints.

Islie: For those still understimating Nigeria due to some factors, better have a re-think as these specially made Proforce PF2 Armored Vehicles were crafted in the Nigerian spirit and are proudly Nigerian. The Armored patrol vehicle have lots of special features ...even the engines are also armour-protected such that the engine block cannot be shot up and immobilized by a sniper

Henry120: The truth is, as a hardcore patriot, it is not even funny to me. I just feel bemused that in-spite of a war going on, our military still is so poorly equipped and organised. Guys in the same unit wearing different types of Camo pattern, or simply mixing desert camo with jungle camo, or different shades of desert camo.
Well for the Camo area, I just feel there is light at the end of the tunnel, with the introduction of N.A's new Multi Terrain pattern camouflage. At the very least, the proliferation of camo can now be curtailed and maybe even reversed.
DICON is inefficient. in my opinion, only a proper PPP can save DICON. Government also needs to grant licences to more private participation in the Defence sector. Chinese, South-African, Italian, Bulgarian, Indian, Canadian and local companies should be encouraged to set up shop in Nigeria.
It boggles the mind that Nigeria still imports common APCs and MRAPS. It is a shame.
We keeping heaping on old outdated junks, barely serviceable equipment. We went into the market and got obsolete T-72s/BVP-1s.
Nigeria's only salvation is a proper Defence review and an audit. We cannot continue celebrating mediocrity. @Henry120 u are heavilty on point. may God bless u |

Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by ukemeramat(m): 5:57pm On Jun 10, 2015 |
Henry240: We know we have a terrible deficiency in equipment, however we cannot compare how a militant group operates to a proper army.
Militants throw everything they get into an attack, whether it is a 14.5mm mounted on Pick-up trucks or IED laden goats. The idea is to overwhelm and over-run their target by whatever means, no doctrine.
Let us for instance claim the Nigerian military is properly armed, e.g, NATO standard.
Each out-post cannot be armed with a 14.5mm shilka or a Tank because the military operates on a Doctrine.
-So each squad would be armed appropriately.
- Each section would also be armed
- Each platoon also armed appropriately.
All of these groups would be armed based on the Doctrine with which the Nigerian Army operates.
Only the platoon would have the big guns. At squad level, troops would only have access to their rifles, grenades, RPG's and radios with which to call in Air-Support and artillery fire. They may not even have access to APC's at squad levels.
Now, this is for a hypothetical armed Nigerian army.
Reality on the ground is, the Nigerian army is neither well funded or well armed. Most of these issues probably have nothing to do with corruption. I'm not saying there is no corruption, but we add too much importance to this corruption thing that we fail to see the bigger picture.
Bigger Picture :
- we tried to purchase arms from Israel, the U.S and South-Africa, but we were consistently blocked. Our plane wasn't also given clearance to fly over Saudi-Arabia.
- the U.S stopped buying our oil, hence we have no money.
- we do not have a Defence industry to support our military. Yes, we make this and that, here and there, but we actually do not have an Industry.
-Tactics is also an issue,
All of these things got nothing to do with corruption.
I have spoken to many soldiers, including those in the line of battle. Truth is, these issues are not necessarily as simple as we would love to believe. i understand u very well. your response was concise and without ambiguity. this BH boys are miscreants. they use anti aircraft guns on human beings. the army needs to be tactical and well equipped with adequate fire power. during the niger delta days, u hardly hear of much military or civilian casualties because u re well briefed on your modus operandi before u leave the creeks . but i still think the problem lies with our military high command. our military budget stands at btwn $2-3 billion. we can do alot with that. collect licence to manufacture this arms here with pure local content and put in $500million into DICON and see what will become of our military... Nigerian service chiefs are ranked among the richest in the world aside the Arabs,Asians and Russians |

Henry240: The fact is, all the beryl we have seen are all in the North-East. Produce a single photo of a beryl in Abuja?
Those beryl's would come with their appropriate accessories. The first batch of 1000 are on evaluation, next set and the more to come would definitely come with scopes as a basic requirement. ok.... on the Abuja issue... lets leave it out... but please keep us updated when the next batch comes in... it will be interesting to see our SF kitted with that stuff with full accessories... |

Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by ukemeramat(m): 4:11pm On Jun 10, 2015 |
Henry240: The 5.45 is not better than the 7.62 round. It was McNamara a business guy, who decided on the use of the 5.45 as it was cheaper to produce than the 308 (7.62).
As part of requirement in the NATO alliance, all members are to use a common gear, hence the adoption of the 5.45.
The only advantage the 5.45 has over the 7.62 is that it is lighter to carry, hence soldiers can carry more Ammo.
N.A purchasing the 7.62 for the beryl makes perfect sense. It is a more powerful round, and a round they produce.
Soldiers still miss targets at 50m with all the accessories present. Most of the fighting takes place between 150 - 300 meters. ok well said but the bottom line is that that OBJ006 bla bla bla should be upgraded for Christ sake...that stuff is obsolete .. Russians and the Ukrainians have long upgrade theirs... |

@Henry240... why do you think this BH guys had the audacity to stand the NA? Its because they see the deficiency in their fire power.. why is there so much case of mutiny rocking the army today? same wahala, insufficient and outdated arms and ammunition... ask a regular soldier who is on the battle field to tell you what is their biggest challenge and hear what he tells u |

Henry240: "Some" Army SF use the Tavor-21. The beryl version the Nigerian army got are the latest versions. They come with picatinny, accessories can be added when proper deliveries commence.
You were the same individual claiming the beryl's ordered were going to be given to some close protection unit in Abuja. You should the decency to apologise for peddling falsehood. @Henry240.. have you asked yourself how many was deployed to the north east? the whole 1000 unit? i don't think so...
