kadeer: Hi, could you paste the stack trace from the debugger.
@Kadeer, thank you for responding.

I don't have that. I just found out the exact line that causes the error this morning. It's a function call pasted below;

BSApi.ABSGetLastErrorInfo(code, message)

The function ABSGetLastErrorInfo is defined in a library named bsapi.dll.

Following is the line in BSApi class that associates BSApi.ABSGetLastErrorInfo with the bsapi.dll library;
Public Declare Function ABSGetLastErrorInfo Lib "bsapi.dll" (ByRef pErrorCode As Integer, ByRef ppErrorMessage As String) As Integer

The exception occurs in the library and I believe it is not escalated hence even when I placed the BSApi.ABSGetLastErrorInfo(code, message) statement within a Try...Catch block, the exception is not trapped.

And in this scenerio, I can't find the stack trace.

However, this discovery of the line that causes the crash is a bit helpful. I'm considering just disabling that line even though the end-user will be missing that extra information on the exact error which that very line places in the message parameter. At least if there is no other crash, I could manage that. Meanwhile this error does not occur on the x86 version of the same sample code when compiled on a 32 bit machine. It's just this x64 version on 64 bit machines that is crashing.

When I explained this find to the support personnel from the manufacturers, she was saying I should just warn the user to make sure a finger is swiped, that it is normal. Could you imagine. As for the timeout of 3 seconds, they could not even determine where it is set whether in code or in the firmware. I got the support from their philipine office, I think they are in charge of this region. ACR HQ is in Hong Kong.
ProgrammingRe: Suggestions And Criticisms Of Biometrics App Design by uken73(m):
@OP, I'm happy to meet another developer who works with biometrics. I'm sorry I don't have a contribution to make to your project. Even though I have a little knowledge in some of the technologies you are using, I don't think I'm in a good possition to be of help.

However, OP have you worked with smart cards? Could you be of help here? https://www.nairaland.com/1442059/needed-biometric-smart-card-reader#18170462. The thread has a summary of a challenge I'm facing with implementing a Biometric/Smart Card based Identification System.
Sample AET62 VB.NET application code is crashing.
ProgrammingHelp Needed On Biometric/smart Card Reader Application. by uken73(op): 11:36pm On Sep 16, 2013
I'm working on a Biometric/Smart Card Based Identification system. The idea is to issue Contactless Mifare Cards with card holder's fingerprint on the Smart Card which will allow the use of a simple/light application for verification of life fingerprints against the one stored on the card.
The programming language of choice VB.NET 2010.

An AET62 smart card reader/fingerprint scanner has been acquired, but the sample VB.NET application that accompanies the SDK crashes. I've been chatting with a representative of ACR (the manufacturers) and different things have been suggested. I've tried their suggestions and my own ideas to resolve this issue for days now but no solution. I've tried it with Visual Studio 2008, Visual Studio 2010 Premium and Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate all on 64 bit Windows 7 and have gotten the same crash. I've downloaded and installed microsoft updates for the OS on my laptop and updates for Visual Studio. I have also tested on another laptop. In fact this AET62 is the 2nd Card Reader device acquired, the first was an ACR1281U-C1 reader which we had planned to use in conjunction with a Digital Persona Fingerprint scanner. We were also experiencing crashes with this first reader. We got the 2nd reader because it is easier to program it since it was designed with this type of project in mind (reason for it being a combo Card Reader/Fingerprint Scanner).

Meanwhile an already compiled Banking Demo application that demonstrates the use of the device works without crash. The AET fingerprint reader is a swipe type. The crashh mostly occurs when there is a more than 3 seconds delay in swiping when prompted.

Has anyone worked with a similar project? Any suggestions? I've ran out of ideas.

Christianity EtcRe: A different View on COZA Sex Scandal by uken73(m): 9:19pm On Aug 26, 2013
I'm not affiliated with COZA, neither do I know Ese, but I believe that in case Ese’s story about the COZA pastor is true, we should not make ourselves Judges over the matter. And meanwhile, there is this other interesting story I heard from a friend.

My friend was owed by a Pastor who obviously had the capacity to pay, but just won’t pay. He was advised to go and harass the Pastor at his Church during service; at least his member will pay if the Pastor does not bulge. But he said he can't try it, instead he will leave him to God. He particularly recounted an incidence where someone in the past had tried to humiliate a man of God in a similar fashion and God struck the man dead.

In the incidence, a member of a Church went back home and caught his Pastor sleeping with his wife. The Pastor had ran naked into a moveable wardrobe to hide. The man locked the wardrobe and called some boys to carry the wardrobe to church. A heavy crowd had gathered at the church to see and mock. The man opened the wardrobe, low and behold; there was the Pastor, naked as from birth. Immediately thunder struck the man dead and everyone fled. The Pastor went away unharmed.

The first two lines of a Hymn by William Cowper (1731-1800) say 'God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform'. The bible has something similar in Isaiah 55:8-9 (King James Version)
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Just leave him to God. It's non of your business.

I don't think so. I've actually experienced 4Mbps with MTN on a few occassions, so I don't doubt sm1 getting a little more than that. But on average I get 200-300Kbps when I'm not downloading, but it often goes up to 1Mbps and smts 2Mbps when I'm downloading. This is on MTN and Airtel in Uyo. But there are too many times dat I get 0-4Kbps for hours or even days.

Seun: The woman could have just asked.
Seun, as already pointed out, she did ask and the guy's response was "Nothing". However, I won't even wait for my woman to ask. If I'm bothered and I can see it is giving her concern, I will be very happy to share it with her. In fact, it would give me some relief and cool me down which enhances the chance of figuring out the problem. In my experience, ideas/solutions come easier when I'm less tensed up. When I hit the rock, I like to get my mind of the task for a while, then come back later to it with a renewed mind. Gisting often does the job of easing the thension.

ProgrammingRe: Pls Help: How Do I Add This To A Web Page by uken73(m): 11:29am On Jul 26, 2013
I'm not a Joomla person. I've tried a bit of WordPress. I typically use DotNetNuke, but in all of them, the idea is the same, it's only the technology/platform that is different. The easiest way is to get a plugin/widget/module (whatever it is called on your choosen CMS. You may find it free or may have to pay for 1. Just google for Joomla Directory or WordPress Directory. You should find lots of options (free/premium) that you can choose from. That's the way to go for non-programmers. Choose one and find out how it is used. Standard ones should go with a Userguide that you can study and configure it for your needs.

Hope that helps.
ProgrammingRe: Pls Help: How Do I Add This To A Web Page by uken73(m): 7:03pm On Jul 23, 2013
Guy what you are trying to achieve is not just a common CMS website. It looks like you are working on an online listing with the possibility of searching for listings by category. You may find a Joomla plugin for directory listing. If you can't find one that suites your purpose exactly, you may go for a custom developed plugin. I'm more of a Microsoft person, using Dotnet Nuke. I don't know if this may apply to Joomla, but without using a plugin which may require more effort by the developer (implying he may charge you more for it), a page could be designed with the code behind to handle filling up the categories from the database and quering with the user's search parameters against the database to produce the list of matched records. Since you are working with Joomla, you may need to talk to PHP developers.
ProgrammingRe: Sql "Select" With Vb.net by uken73(m): 6:54pm On Jul 23, 2013
Your implementation approach does not seem to be the best. You are using a keydown event to handle the authentication. This will make the system to watch every key type event when you don't need those events. That is not efficient. A better approach will be to have a button maybe named login or connect and implement your authentication/database verification on the button click event. That could be something like;

Private Sub btnLogin_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnLogin.Click
Dim SqLConnection As MySqlConnection
Try
SqlConnection = New MySqlConnection()
Dim sqlcommand As New MySqlCommand
Dim connectionString As String = "Server=localhost; port=3306; User Id=root; Password=jboy;Database=fut_votting"
SqlConnection.ConnectionString = connectionString
With sqlcommand
.CommandText = "SELECT names FROM student_data WHERE id=1 and password='" & passbox.Text & "'"
End With

SqlConnection.Open()
Dim reder As MySqlDataReader = sqlcommand.ExecuteReader()
Dim reader As SqlDataReader

If reder.Read() Then
Dim mainform As New mainForm
mainform.Show()
Me.Dispose()
End If

' End Using
'sqlcommand.ExecuteNonQuery() ----Should not be necessary.
'Typically used if you are executing and update/delete statement
Catch ex As MySqlException
MsgBox(ex.Message.ToString)
Finally
SqlConnection.Close()
End Try
End Sub

Please Note: I usually program for a MS SQL Server database. I don't have the library for MySQL Server connection, hence, I havn't tested the above code. However, with my experience with the MS SQL Server library, there were some issues with your arrangements. For instance the point "Dim reder As MySqlDataReader = sqlcommand.ExecuteReader()" where you have the error message is comming before "SqLConnection.Open()" which opens a connection to the database. That should be the source of the error, and that line of code was not in your error handler section. The line "sqlcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()" is not necessary. "sqlcommand.ExecuteReader()" is similar statement to "sqlcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()", difference being that the former is used for a database query while the later is used for data update,insert or delete.

I hope that helps.
ProgrammingRe: Connecting An Offline Server To An Online Server by uken73(m): 5:03pm On Jul 23, 2013
My understanding of the OP's problem is that he wants to be able to capture data using an offline data capture form (maybe an offline web form) and then sync or upload the data later to a database that is online.

That is achieveable. But you have not stated which Database Management System (DBMS) you are using. But for which ever, your data capture form can be programmed to store the data in a temporary/offline database or XML file and later transferred to the database online.
