Devaluation is good and bad. It encourages investment. Foreign investors can get more for their money locally and it prevents capital flight. However, it is also a double edge sword. It can also make some investors nervous. Nobody wants to invest in a country today only to be told tomorrow that the investment is worth 25% less in few weeks. The stock mkt rose 3% just on the conclusion of the election. If there in confidence, in the political climate, it goes a long way in bringing more players to the table. The more the players, the better the currency. When Buhari promised that $1 will equal N1 in a year, i hate to burst your bubble. IT WON'T HAPPEN. At least, not in a year. There are lots of things that will need to be in place for that to happen. Otherwise, South Africa, Canada would have done it by now. It takes more than just word of mouth. But things should improve a lot in the next year in respect the value of the Naira. Investors confidence is coming back. |
emperoracro:You have to realize that most of the factors that has been affecting the Naira is more artificial (devaluation) as opposed to the global push/pull factors. Naira was devalued. The political uncertainty made a lot of people actually hold back on discretionary spending. Investors also held back. Total oil for instance just completed selling almost $1m assets has been sold in the past year or so. Most people were waiting for the other shoe to drop which by all indication it wouldn't. At least in the short while, unless of course this administration falls short of expectation. Naira now has appreciated almost N20/$1 in just a matter of few days simply due to the political factors. I just called my Malo now. He will sell $ for me at N205 as opposed to N225 last week. That means they will buy possibly at N202. Grab a seat and watch the free-fall in the next few weeks. Good news for us all |
People seem to be upset that the dollar is falling. You guys seem to forget that it was being held up by politicians before. Now no need to. It would have keep rising if PDP wins. But the country is moving in new direction That is the nature of currency. It rises and falls. Don't forget that we were coming from N170/$1 before. It shall get there insha allah |
Like i told you unbelievers, Naira is appreciating now. Its now around N205 And election was just concluded few days ago Bookmark this page and watch what happens |
If he is smart, he should tackle POWER and repair REFINERY. Those 2 things will impact, Nigerians the most. As for roads, its nice to do but the impact won't be like power. If i live in Sagamu and he is busy doing roads in Sapele, i might not know if i did not ply the road. But i will know that fuel is available and power is constant where i reside Good luck to the President-Elect |
Hi, Just wondering which of the various pastors got it right or wrong? I can recollect about last week that Guru Maharaj predicted doom for Buhari. How many others got it right or wrong? |
theo07:With over 8 yrs here on NL, i will like to say that i have seen it all. Its unproductive for me to come here and be slugging it out with you about an ad over a Camry. And i have come into your defense before when people are talking nonsense about your ad. For whats misleading about the ad? Let start with the car is not an XLE nor its a 2010. Lots of people have pointed that out. Different engine (2.5L) for 2010 and up. Camry is a very popular car in Nigeria and NL is visited by a lot of well informed buyers. It does no one good (especially you) to underestimate the knowledge of a client. No one buys a car without SOME type of knowledge about it. However small it may be. Even, if you manage to fool someone to buy it as a 2010, sooner or later, the buyer will know its not a 2010. and there goes your repeat customer and potential new ones. Happy Sales |
FortuneVal:This is the problem with Nigeria. You want someone banned because he voice his opinion on a public forum? I will like to think that you are joking. Afterall, all the observation(s) about the posted car is correct. Did you ask the poster why he is misleading in his post? Or you stand to benefit? |

Tree Chaining does not look that it will prepare the land for planting/farming. More-so, you will need 2 Bulldozer as opposed to 1 when you are clearing. More cost for less outcome ![]() |

NobleG1:Yes they don't ask for your fingerprint cos there is the fairly trustworthy system of the ID card / DL and social security database that can be trusted. Banks can just revert to it if need be. But in Nigeria, there is no database, hence the banks has to create it. You are over thinking this privacy/freedom stuff you are used to in the states too much. Banks has to do the best to protect themselves. When the cases of fraudulent Western Union receivers was rampant in Nigeria, the came out with rules that you have to have an account with the bank before you can cash the western union. That slowed things down. They did not rely on the receiver to just show up with a drivers license which can be fake. They created a new way to protect themselves. Support the banks, they are moving in the right direction |
NobleG1:But in Nigeria, if you implement something like social security number, it MIGHT be riddled with fraud, but you only have one fingerprint. And for your info, several years ago, to combat fraud in the US, if you want to cash a check and you don't have an account with that bank, they will ask you to fingerprint on the check. Just an index finger. By that if there is any issue, they turn it over to the police. Granted there is a database in the states. Fraud dropped almost 90%. Nigeria lacks any database hence the banks are beginning this. For your info, there are some companies that requires the workers to clock in with fingerprint. Reduces the issue of someone clocking in for another worker. The fingerprint database is kept with the company in those cases Regards |

We are here |
Point well taken. We are all products of our experience. That is just one case. Between Man and God, as i am typing today, i have almost N4.5m out there that i have no hope of collecting in these types of things. Padi Padi things. Will your point save me from my Bank? What's the point of doing something that does not work for you? Everyone will be quick to point out how some people in Nigeria are making it in life more than people overseas but how do we explain all these 419 things that happen cos you trust and you want to help? As of 3 years ago, there are lots of factories i could have set up and be reaping profits and might have be enough for me to partially retire home. Or even just turning the money around buying and selling cars. No matter what, i will collect my money in bulk when i sell no matter how long. Worst case, i can decide to sell at cost and forgo profit. When someone decide to pay only N140k out of N600k, haven't i lost my investment? I could have sold the same car distress sale for like N500k and collect my money. Worst case, he will be upset and will not talk to me again. But i have N500k in my pocket. Now i lost N460k and he hasn't spoken to me since then. Lookout for yourself before others. ![]() Everyone has a story. People here are not just wicked and heartless. |
If anyone needs a good builder agent in Ijebu Ode and its environs, i can link you up with very trustworthy people Good luck |
What i will advise you to do is that you ask them what they plan on doing. What makes sense to you may not make sense for the other person. And they might be passionate about what you are passionate about. Then offer to LOAN them the money you want to send them. Let the know its a LOAN but in your mind you know its a gift. With that, the person won't be coming in case they misuse the funds and your conscience will be clear if you don't do anything for them again. Otherwise they will turn you into ATM coming back for more money until you cannot afford it. Good luck |

amywonda:Not exactly. The data collected is different for different purposes. Not everyone that register for NIN has bank account and vice versa. People living overseas will not have NIN but might have bank account. So the NIN database is useless. Second, you have to worry about pairing the NIN database with account numbers which might create errors. Its better, faster and easier for the bank to just record your data against your fingerprints one time. Lastly, is the issue of ownership. CBN DOES NOT OWN the NIN database. They cannot just have access to it even if they want to. Its better for banks to just make their own and use it as they see fit cos all the info they need will be there when setting up |
NobleG1:BVN is a very good thing if you must know. While no system is 100% secure, the next best thing is to attain perfection as close as possible. In the States, you obtain your bank account with Social Security Number (Like a tax ID). I assume same in the UK. You can only obtain 1 Social security in a lifetime (i am not saying that there are no cases of fraud). But for 99% of the people its one per person. If you mess up your banking relationship, you wiull be reported to a general bank database and you wont be able to open another one. But in Nigeria, the BVN is better. It will get to a point that they will compare your fingerprint to the BVN before you can withdraw. If someone cash a check by fraud, the fingerprint can be matched with the database and he will be caught. Only the bank has the incentive and resources to combat fraud. At least in Nigeria. Long live BVN |
To combat fraud, i hope they do more like the US. When you commit fraud at one bank, they will just notify the other banks thru your BVN number and other banks can close your account. That will be very good. all these yahoo yahoo boys will be kept at bay since you can only get one BVN number. In the US, you will be reported to CHECKSYSTEMS once you commit a fraud somewhere. No other bank will open an account for you AGAIN unless the original bank that puts the check system in place removes it. Kudos to the CBN for safer banking in Nigeria. |
