Before we start feeling sorry for this guy, we must ask ourselves 2 major questions:

What is the source of his wealth?

How much role did he have to play in his own downfall?

Its easy to name how many people he has helped but how much contribution did he make in the waste of his wealth?.

No matter how much you have, if you spend more than you make, YOU WILL BE BROKE

IdaraCHODB:
This link will absolutely surprise a lot of people as it goes against popular advice, proof that each car and sometimes even each model is different, and when giving advice that needs to be taken into consideration.
Mazda recommends flushing of its transmission and cooler lines, I have evidence also that Honda recommends the same, but Honda is not the subject of your issue, so I am not going to post the relevant service bulletin.
http://miata.net/garage/tsb/05-008-11-2587.pdf
Your vehicle falls under the models 2004 - 2014 except SKYACTIV
We have been doing Mazda for several generations and I have subscription to Mazda Dealer Level Information.
You have allowed that ATF to degrade too much. You must absolutely do something about it! You must absolutely flush that transmission and cooler lines to avoid a transmission change. I see one coming within the next 30,000 miles unless you act swiftly.
Extract:
Automatic Transaxle/Transmission (A/T) oil cooler and lines must be power flushed completely before an over-
hauled or replacement A/T is installed (except SKYACTIV-DRIVE).
The most common cause of repeat A/T failures is lack of lubrication to the front and rear planetary gears. This is usually caused by an accumulation of metal particles and debris (from a previous A/T failure) on the internal mesh type baffle of the oil cooler.
Power
flushing will remove the restriction by back flushing, followed by forward flushing to dislodge a restriction, then back flushing again.

This will in turn ensure full ATF flow for the transmission when it is operating.
With all due respect, you are talking of 2 different things. The guy is not REPLACING the tranny. Bulletin is talking about when a rebuilt tranny or replacement is to be installed.

I stand to be corrected

Yeah, you are right, though it all still depends on one thing or the other.
I believe this was a healthy argument. One good enough I hope to help the OP decide.
Very healthy point/counterpoint. The transmission issue wt 2005/up Nissan are what kinda make me balk a little. If he can drive a 1999-2004 Pathfinder (Legendary 3.5L engine) or Frontier of the same year. I would have asked him to go ahead with no problem.

Kazeem the gearman grin in Lagos scares me. Fond of the ABRO ATF fluid cheesy

That's the only point that might get me to look away from the extera but yet, it isn't strong enough. As for Nigeria being a toyota country, that's as a result of misinformation.
Yes, toyota might have a higher resale value. That's because Nigerians THINK its the best automobile in the world.(thanks to misinformation)
My reasons for wanting to own a certain vehicle cld be different from that of another individual. What's resale value when I'm buying a vehicle I intend to use (not sell) ...?
Resale value shld not make me choose a brand that wldn't satisfy me over one that wld.
Point well taken. But remember that no matter how much you love a car, you will want to get something else down the road. Even if you bought with the intention of keeping forever. I hope the poster chooses wisely. All bases covered

The ultimate off roader/4x4 is the Land Rover. It may not have all the luxury mod-cons in a Benz or Lexus but it would never get stuck in mud, puddle or crater. If cost is no bother, go for a G-wagon or Range Rover Autobiography (pls see link below). However, the wise choice, as said, would be Toyota (2004 above) 4Runner, Prado, Land Cruiser or Lexus equivalent (reason:- auxiliary gear, tech‎ know-how, available parts, resale value, comfort, reliability, durability, etc).
In the long term, mobilize your street or community to fix the roads which would invariably increase the property values & reduce your regular maintenance cost on tyres, suspension, shocks, etc. You guys can even get a road engineer from LASG to assist! Cheers!

lele007:
Hello Cardoctor,
I drive a Mazda 3 2005 model with auto transmission.
The ATF is now brownish, sometimes, after extended driving, the car doesn't change thru gears properly, and one day the gearbox warning light came on. So I've bought enough Mobil 1 ATF to do a complete drain and flush, the problem is, all the mechanics I've spoken to don't have a professional autotrans flush machine.
Where can I do this fluid change, in a way that completely removes the old, degraded fluid, as opposed to a simple drain and fill?
Not sure where you will get a tranny flush machine in Lagos. Even with a flush machine, you will still have some that will remain in the torque converter. So there is no way to "technically" remove all the fluid.

What is possible is that you do a like 3 drain and fill and you repeat that may be 2 weeks intervals (will cost you). With that, the concentration of the old oil will be so low that it won't be too noticeable.

Even here in the States, people just do drain and fill for the most part and you should be fine. Better to remove the pan. You will get most of the oil out. Fresh oil. Fresh filter. Fresh gasket

Good luck

Hmm
Have you personally driven both cars? I know why the Nissan is still my first choice.
Plus we now have good mechs in Nigeria.
As a matter of fact, YES. and the Nissan almost 5 months actually. I have no problem with Nissan and i am certain there are great technicians in Nigeria. However, 2 factors u need to put in consideration:

Nigeria is a TOYOTA Country. (For every 1 person that prices a Nissan, 10 would have priced a Toyota of similar vehicle)

Rectifying the Xterra is another step and another chance for something to go wrong. Why go down that road if you don't have to?

And yes, the RESALE value.

The 05 - 07 extera is a good choice but make sure to install an external tranny oil cooler, else you would have tranny isssues. Asides that, the Nissan exterra is a ride I love.
My second choice is the 03 - 06 toyota 4runner.
Exactly. why go thru all that trouble especially taking chances with our mechanics in Nigeria. Skip straight to 4Runner. Also Toyota have a better resale value

I appreciate. Thanks
@ poster don't mind that guy. Nobody makes a price request without knowing what they cost. Quoting too low will get you little or no response because dealer will think you are not serious. Why will you quote 700k for a car that costs about N2m in the market? You are certain to get no response. You will just be wasting your time.

Back to your request, i can help you pre-order one with minimal body damage for N1.65m

Non accidented is N1.85m

My advise is that you should consider Toyota 4 Runner

2003 - 2007 models should be fine

Buy a good one and no worries

For reasons that time does not permit me, i would stay away from 07 Xterra for now

Good luck

I am a car dealer and bought several cars from usa with auctionexport. You know the market is a very competitive and you have to buy very cheap to sell here and make some money. Last half of the year we are struggling with unstable currency exchange rate and now the new law does not give me any options to survive. They blocked the option for us to pay in US dollars. Okey... But how do they expect to develop the economy if we are not allowed to make any transactions in usd? Some of my friends just simply stuck and do not have any options unless put car on a resell. We have to continue to do something and can't just wait until it will be restored. I have no clue on how to make this work . Will appreciate any comment with suggestion on what to do?
Can help you make payment. Let me know what you are trying to do

Obviously you don't see the sarcasm in my post so let me spell it out for you. You expect someone to deposit U.S dollars into your account while you pay in Naira. Like I said in my previous post, what assurance is there that you would deposit the naira equivalent into the person's account? Oh you expect total strangers to entrust you with their hard earned money because you are what? Oh maybe you will tell us how you've been a member of nairaland for the past 9yrs and so what?? When did becoming a faceless member of any site equate to authenticity or credibility?
I viewed your topic because I was curious and was thinking you offer a service I would use since I remit money frequently to Nigeria only for it to turn out to be a very risky proposition. Now the same thing can be said about the seller, what makes you sure he or she would not run off with your money? You said you will give the money to a banker blah blah blah, I don't know any American bankers who would subscribe to this as they wouldn't want to be held responsible. Now if you listed your addresses both in the U.S and Nigeria or assured us that you will meet in person for a face to face transaction in real time, then I will take you serious. But you want someone to blindly send you money and hope you do the same in good faith, imagine someone sending you a total stranger a wire transfer for $10,000 into your bank of America account knowing very well most wire transfers are nonrefundable and hoping you reciprocate. You know what, I want to sell $10,000 at the price of N220/$ which will be deposited to my GTB account only on one condition, you send me the naira equivalent first.
I am in Jacksonville, Florida. I buy cars for clients and ship. You can see below my website. Whatever safeguard you think will be adequate for you, we can do that. I have a business account both here and in Nigeria and also, we can arrange for your guy and my guy to meet at GTB in Lagos. i transfer to my guy. if u deposit, funds are released out there. These are peoples money, i have to be very careful.

You want the person to wait in the bank after depositing the money into your account for what? Can it be reversed after being deposited into your account? If so, what if the person decides to reverse it anyway after u've deposited into their Nigerian account, I don't get this control mechanism. If u guys are serious, u both deposit into my accounts, the person in Nigeria can deposit into my Nigerian account while the person in the U.s can deposit into my U.S account; I will serve as an Escrow and charge u two just 3% of total funds transferred. Will then transfer the funds to your accounts.
If you want to advertise your escrow service that is fine but this has worked before. He is a his Bank of America branch and i am at mine. We can turn it over to the banker there while we both wait at the bank. I transfer, and he does the same.

You just wanna collect a 3% without lifting a finger. So for like $10,000 transfer, u will collect N65k in Naija and $300 in the US undecided

That is like a total of N130k for a N2.1m transfer undecided for doing us a favor for few minutes

And yet you are not a registered Escrow office yourself. And who is to say you wouldn't run off with our money as well.

Even some real estate deal (at least in the States) that requires lengthy transactions attracts less that 3% commission. I have done lots of business with countless of faceless customers sight unseen with no problems.

Take your greed elsewhere
