The government of Kano State in northern Nigeria has announced a ban on the use of passenger boats in Bagwai Local Government Area. Authorities took the decision at an executive council meeting on Wednesday, a day after Tuesday’s boat capsize that left dozens dead. Explaining to the BBC the ban on passengers boats in Bagwai, Kano State Commissioner for Information Muhammad Garba said, “The state government has provided two free buses for free transport, from Badau to town of Bagwai. He added that “the ban will continue until new boats are made available to the community.” The executive council also announced that while efforts are being made to provide the Bagwai community with an alternative means of transportation, a special committee will begin work to determine the cause of the capsize. Nigeria’s Special Police Force said it has arrested a number of suspected kidnappers seeking ransom, arms smugglers, drug dealers, cars hijackers among the others in the country. Police also seized 18 AK47 rifles, three GPMGs, two Ribalba rifles, one pistol, 453 rounds of ammunition and 17 stolen vehicles. That was contained in a statement issued by the National Police on Wednesday evening. Among those arrested were notorious robbers in Nasarawa, Abuja, Kebbi, Zamfara and Port Harcourt. A Federal Court in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, has ordered the Antony-General of the Kano State Government to apologize to former Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II for his expulsion from the state. In a court hearing on Tuesday, Chief Justice Anwuli Chikere said the expulsion of the former Emir of Kano from the state by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was “illegal and unconstitutional” in Nigeria. The court directed the Antony-General of the Kano State Government to publish the apology in two national newspapers. Authorities in Nigeria said 262 inmates have escaped from Jos prison, the capital of northern Plateau State. A statement issued by the authorities on Monday said nine inmates died while one prison staff member was killed and one gunman was also killed in an attack by gunmen on Sunday in the evening. Authorities said the attackers opened fire and beat up prison guards before breaking into the prison. Ten escaped prisoners have been recaptured, while 252 are still at large. The Nigerian military said it has killed 128 people in the north-west and 140 Boko Haram members in the north-east. The military made this known in a statement issued by its spokesperson Bernard Onyeuko highlighting the achievements of the Armed Forces in parts of Nigeria facing security challenges. The force said the figures affected its two-week operation from November 11 to 25. The statement said bandits and Boko Haram camps had been destroyed and some of them had been arrested. The United Nations has confirmed that after days of ethnic clashes in Sudan’s Darfur region, at least 43 people have been killed and thousands displaced. The clashes erupted last week between Arab herdsmen and farmers from the Misseriya Jebel tribe. The United Nations says more than 40 villages have been burned and looted. Dozens of people are reported missing including children. The governor of northwestern Nigeria’s Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has said state governments are ready to support the federal government in removing all Premium Motor Spirit (PMS – Petrol) subsidy. Al-Shabab militants have killed a prominent Somali journalist who was widely criticized in a suicide attack in the capital, Mogadishu. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has criticized the United States for removing Nigeria from the list of religious oppressors in the country in 2021, saying that terrorist groups and other Islamic groups continue to persecute Christians in the country.
