I think Mr Alebiosu will join the Ote caucus esle it'll be very interesting to see what plays out in the coming days with the April 30 deadline by CBN fast approaching.

Tunde Hassan-Odukale or Femi Otedola

Why didn't see the effects of those whose bids didn't succeed in the stock market today.

Keeping your cash in fixed deposit till the next primary market offer is also a strategy

the next one may be lower as its now dropping gradually as seen from the range of bids. One has to bid under 20% to be successful with the longest tenor next time else, the money will be waiting for higher rates and this may not come

The banks are not superman but know that a lot of financial dynamic has occurred in the economy since after the the 31th Dec 2023 and the banks are going to utilize those opportunities to maintain the status. I will like to list some as
(1) The interest rate on loan has increased to upto 600 to 1000 points and still counting.
(2) The rate on Treasury bill has increased to upto 600 points.
(3) The increased in retained earnings has been deployed for service.
(4) The 1st quarter revaluation will be done at N1300 as of 31/03/2024. Which appears to be as the same rate of increase in half Year audited results of 2023 or slightly lower.
I will advise you to wait and see the earnings that will be coming from the banks in 1st quarter financial report.

So you think the higher the interest rate the better it is for the banks? So if interest rate for example jumps to 50%, you expect business men to go after loans at such rate? What happens to the cry that higher interest rate is hurting businesses. Apart from turning away borrowers, a high rate can amount to many defaults on loans.

You keep mentioning revaluation as if what we have now has not changed to devaluation. Most banks have USD bought at over 1500 too

Anyways when the Q1 report is out, let's see what it is but again let's compare it to previous quarter and not with Q1 2023. That's how we will know what's up

I may differ in this argument. Treasury bill at 22% and interest on loan at N35. Remember that the foreign exchange revaluation that you said is above N500 billion has been sent on money errands at least N100 billion will be received as return if all of it is sent on errands to Treasury bill. Then the other 2 trillion as reserve will be in loans and others investment vehicles. I think the banks know how to maintain their position. Also know that the revaluation was done at the rate of slightly below N1000. I don't expect Naira to go below N900 this year. So in terms of foreign exchange revaluation they may be no difference.
Concerning exiting the market now I think it is too early to jump out. My reasons are that the banks will try to pump their price before coming out to the market. Have you not been seeing volume of trade? After the initial pumping you will see consolidation than movement of price and then announcement of offer price. I will advise you jump out during the offer activity in the market because there will not be any interest in the stock then. You can then reenter the market after listing of the offer in the market because supply will be more than demand and price will crash. This is my 10 Kobo advice.
Still know you are the manager of your portfolio.

you made it sound like we have super banks that do not suffer loss. For your information, all holders of dollars from February this year are at a loss presently.
you also made it sound like the banks have converted all their dollars to naira and are heavily invested in Treasury Bills with those monies.

when you say in terms of forex revaluation, it makes no difference because it was done less than N1000. let me ask you this. if the rate stabilizes like this for the rest of the year, is that a forex gain for the banks? or are you assuming that last year's dollar whose gain had been captured in their books will now be brought into this year and viewed as a revaluation gain again?

me i am just a lay man and i dont understand much but if i may say something, i think the banks will not enjoy what is to happen in the next one year. maybe after that, they will stabilize. i am in alignment with ositadima1

Can someone give us a clear understanding of what the share capital is and how it's different from the market capitalization of the company. Me am not understanding these o. I used to think that the market capitalization is an advantage but here am seeing some banks like fcmb not needing too much different from the top banks to capitalize to the 500B.

I used to think that when 500B is mentioned, banks like Zenith, GTB and Access will just sneeze it out easily.

That is the essence of diversification, the consistent returns on your Sukuk can be invested in the stock market, real estate, dollar denominated investment, you can also borrow against the future earnings of the investment in order to harness other economic, business and investment opportunities

Most times we underestimate the power of consistent and predictable return on investment.

Investor A invested N1 million, made 100% in year 1, made a loss of 30% in year 2. At the end of year 2 the N1 million would have grown to N1. 4 million through compounding

Investor B, invested N1 million that grows at 20% per annum. At the end of year 2 the N1 million would have grown to N1. 44 million.

Imagine if this continues for another 10 years

but the compounding is just imaginary as it is not automatic. If you get your 20% paid, you are not automatically getting another 20% of that.

One only makes profit or loss when one sells.

you are right but when you are caught in the web, this notion will erase from your mind.

imagine for example you have about N10 Million locked in Multiverse. You then have an opportunity to buy a house on distress sale for about 8 to 9 Million naira. You are confident to seal the deal because you have stocks valued above that. You hit the NGX to sell and buy the house.

Guess what, one month later you are still not able to sell. na that one i go take dey console myself say " I only make profit or loss when i sell?"

It's always good to be in a liquid stock or jump out early when the ovation is still loudest instead of reaching destination of no return.

i pray you do not experience being stuck in a stock when you need an emergency exit

When I was arguing this very point, the same guy was asking me if I was making money in this market, implying that my reasoning was flawed. He also stated in one of his posts that he could spot opportunities and tell you when to enter, but he would not reveal when to exit, which should have been a red flag.

The thing is, with such stocks, you should have a target exit point that hopefully falls within the period it was still trending. Once the trend is over, you will be trapped until the next trend emerges.

oh yes.

@222martins,

Good morning

The core investor of IEI bought their shares at #1.60.The stock is currently trading below their entry price. Looking at the latest result of IEI, the stock price is too cheap at 1.45kobo.There is possibility of this Q1 result to beat that of last year by over 200%.

I think the stock will also be on 10% full bid today

the problem is one can get trapped.

Imagine those investors in Multiverse who have been trying to come out for the past one month. total traded value yesterday from 6 deals only was N21k. You spot opportunity elsewhere and want to sell multiverse to key into such opportunities just like when MTN got to N180. Multiverse trapped you inside.
Yesterday also, Champion breweries, only 3 deals with total value of around N5k.

Look at McNichols, after the price went up many days and hit the top, coming out was a problem until it went back to where it started from before we started seeing bids.
Mecure has trapped investors wanting out as we speak. remember how it was flying high and jumping 10% daily for weeks. Yesterday's total traded volume was just 21k

so many stocks like that will do people shege.

Climbing up is not the problem but when you want to come out, it's a big problem especially when you are invested with huge fund.

my advice to penny stock wannabe investors is to use penny amounts to buy penny stocks. Imagine someone queuing up very early trying to sell about 1M units of Mecure or Multiverse. it would take more than 2 weeks of others waiting if the 1M guy gets in front everyday.

I learnt my lesson when i tried to jump out of one penny stock with N800K value to invest in an opportunity elsewhere. i remained trapped while the other stock which was a highly liquid one made 30%. As i speak, i am still trapped but the paper value has gone down drastically by about 50%.

As for me, i learn't my lessons
