Let me explain to you how these kinds of special elections work.

There have been 5 special elections. 4 republican appointees assuming posts in Donald's Administration. 1 Democratic appointee assuming post as Attorney General of California.

These Seat's are not competitive seats. On the republican side, the 4 seats are in heavily populated republican districts, been red for up to 2 to four decades. The republican districts have been seriously gerrymandered from what they looked like 4 decades ago. Giving the GOP an advantage.

They are carefully chosen appointments which the GOP wins easily by 20-30 points over the years.

On the democratic side. It's a super liberal state in a super liberal state. In fact, no GOP challenger, both candidates are democrats.

There's no trophy for participation, progress doesn't come overnight and we made progress in every of these races, we lost in South Carolina by 2,000 votes. My point is, democrats overcame so many obstacles in each of these districts that we haven't in decades. Our loss in this year's special election could result in our victory next year.

A friendly reminder, in 2009, Democrats won all special elections too. You don't appoint candidates from seats you'll lose to federal position. They are always chosen from super safe seat but guess what Democrats inched beyond the losing threshold. We live to fight again next year.
