PoliticsRe: What Is The Main Cause Of Poor Economic Growth In Nigeria? by vanunu: 8:20pm On Jun 30, 2021
The global trade competitiveness of Nigeria is very low, apart from oil, Nigeria has little or nothing to offer to the world, this is because of the way Nigeria operates.
Nigeria is not a merit driven country , the daft leaders have no idea that it Is only through science and technology that their country can move forward.

PoliticsRe: Why Nigerians hate Igbo, by Chinua Achebe by vanunu: 10:10am On Jun 15, 2021
babyfaceafrica:
'' Nigerians'' hate igbos? Where did the statistics come from? I think it's overstretch, igbos are one of the most travelled tribe, with business all over the country, anybody who hates an igbo person doesn't hate the tribe but the individual. If you are resourceful and humble, no one will look down on you. I think the problem most people have with some igbos is their loudness and domineering nature.

As long as you mind your business and respect other tribes culture and traditions, you will be fine. Nigerians are generally nice people, however very sentimental especially with religion and tribe, once we do away with this two, things would be fine. Progressive nations aren't religious or tribal, they are based on capacity, once Nigeria starts operating based on merits things will be fine.

Secession won't solve all the issues, as minorities in middle belt and SS would have serious issues. Everyone needs to come to the round table for this nation to move forward. 2023 is here, but I doubt if much will change
With all these killings every day, and you are saying Nigerians are nice people.

That was formed under the provisions of the old first republic constitution, which is no longer in force since the 1966 coup.

So your question is irrelevant.

(Today if you want to form a state, you have to jump several hurdles to get there.)
Midwest was created through a referendum.

What I heard him say is actually worth giving a thought.
Will you discard someone who has been patience in the service to go through the ranks and qualify to be appointed for someone else who is not up to that rank just to balance up?
That contradicts his position on the chief of army staff.
PoliticsRe: Buhari: Why I Appointed Farouk Yahaya As Chief Of Army Staff by vanunu: 1:24pm On Jun 10, 2021
But he was asked why he was not appointing South Easterners, he stated that before anybody will be appointed, the person must join the service and rise through the ranks, his statement contradicted his position on the chief of army staff.

He was also asked about appointing south Easterners to other posts lthat are not sensitive security positions, I couldn't grasp what he was saying.

PoliticsRe: Igangan: There Seems To Be A Well Orchestrated Plan To Destabilise Nigeria by vanunu: 7:32am On Jun 07, 2021
Saifullah01:
I dont know why I have this gut feeling that there are plans by external forces to destabilise the country using some myopic few. From social media projection of potential warlords (igboho, Kanu), to amplification of ethnic strife, killings and reprisal (igangan, etc).
And some online accounts/minions which instigate people against each other, you wonder are they really Nigerians or agents commissioned to sow chaos?

Those keen on observation of trends will know that this route leads to no good. Ask Uganda, Libya, Iraq. In all these countries they killed themselves, they never achieved what they fought for and the wealth from their natural resources kept on flowing outside their country - Precious stones for Uganda, Oil and gas for Libya and Iraq.

But Patriotic Nigerians let's wake up before we sleep work ourselves off the precipice (edge).
The separation of India from Pakistan saved millions of live, Kashmir that did not separate from India at that time is having a lot of conflicts and killings.

Why is that shouting Fulani up and down as if he has all the facts. Some 'attackers' invaded a community and killed about twenty people. No one saw them come and leave, just hearsays, speculations. And they're already blaming Fulani. Not that I like them but what if this is a community clash. Do a thorough investigation first before you conclude.
My heart goes out to the families affected.
Fooool, those who were there are saying that they saw Fulani people.

PoliticsRe: What Is Wrong With 1999 Constitution? by vanunu: 4:12pm On Jun 02, 2021
bilms:
*What is wrong with 1999 constitution?*

"One of the biggest misconceptions is this idea that the 1999 constitution was written by the military. Not True! No single military man was in the constitution drafting committee of 1975/1997 and the CA in 1977. Infact, the 1999 constitution was a replica of the 1979 constitution.

The 1999 Constitution was drafted by a Constitution Debate Co-ordinating Committee headed by Justice Niki Tobi, with Dr. Suleiman Kurmo as deputy. They went round the country collecting memoranda through town hall meetings in Benin, Enugu, Jos, Phc, Kaduna, Kano, Ibadan, Lagos.

...Sokoto. They excluded military formations. After all the debates, the Chairman Tobi said, “In the light of the memoranda and the oral presentation on the 1995 Draft Constitution, it's clear that Nigerians basically opt for the 1979 Constitution with relevant amendments.

They want it, and they've copiously given their reasons for their choice in the different memoranda and oral presentations. So we've recommended the adoption of the 1979 Constitution with relevant amendments from the 1995 Draft Constitution.” Abdulsalami accepted the recommendation.

It's important to unpack this statement. Tobi was saying that based on oral & written submissions, Nigerians preferred the 1979 constitution but with a few amendments extracted from Abacha's jettisoned 1995 draft constitution. Let's look at how the 1979 constitution was drafted...

In 1975, Gen Murtala Muhammed set up the constitution drafting committee headed by eminent jurist FRA Williams. The report of the committee formed the basis for discussions at the 1977 Constituent Assembly chaired by Justice Udo Udoma and had people like MKO Abiola, Bola Ige,Abraham Adesanya, Bisi Onabanjo among the 232 members.

This 1977 CA gave us the 1979 constitution. This is the document the 1999 constitution was based ALMOST WORD FOR WORD. None of the characters involved in the drafting committee or CA in 1975-77 and 1998-99 were military.

According to Simon Kolawole, the 1999 constitution is "pure plagiarism of the 1979 constitution". Exactly as Niki Tobi told us. The only differences were; the 13% derivation, the number of states in the federation (19 States in 1979 & 36 in 1999) and changing of FEDECO to INEC.

Like Simon Kolawole said "The 1999 constitution was NOT written by the military. I also hasten to say that nobody can write a perfect constitution. Even if Prof. Ben Nwabueze, a well-respected constitutional expert, writes a new constitution today, loopholes will surface in a...

...matter of time. That is why laws are dynamic. As loopholes appear, you plug them". I agree with him. The 1999 constitution is not a perfect document. The point is not to throw it away (you can't) it's to fix it. But the fixing must start with the truth..." Yinka Ogunnubi
For any constitution to be legal it must be backed by a referendum, besides the military altered what was agreed by the constitutional drafting committee. That constitution is a big scam in that it stated that Nigeria is a federal state, which is a big lie, instead of a unitary state.

The problem of Nigeria is the scam federal system, the country in real terms is practising a unitary system but is claiming a federal system of government, is this not a big scam , and everybody is keeping quiet out of fear of the Fulani army. The country can never know peace so far this system persist.
