samorobo:It has economic benefit and that is what i have identify in my initial post. being the regional headquater for regional trade position Ghana for reliability and trustworthiness. more investment will soon spring forth. this is economic influence. |
bajehjoshua:nah, he must face the wrath of the law. Nigeria is too free for big men. I have watched the video overtime. imagine the lady as your mother. how will you feel? I hope his own case can serve as deterrent for others. |
omonla10:just imagine. he may be nursing presidency idea.. And absolutely he has lost it for life. |
samorobo. you ask for Ghana benefit for holding the trade headquater...... Ghana selected to host the afcfta headquater The Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) has selected Ghana as the host country for the Secretariat of the African Continental (AfCFTA) Free Trade Area. The decision was announced on Sunday, 7th July, 2019, at the 12th AU Extraordinary Summit held in Niamey, the capital of Niger, after Ghana beat off competition from Egypt, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar and Senegal. The core mandate of the Secretariat will be to implement the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement, which has since been ratified by 25 member states. In his acceptance speech, during the close session of the Summit, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, thanked the Assembly for the decision, stating that “it is a privilege that, for the first time in our nation’s history, we have the responsibility of hosting an important pan-African institution”. President Akufo-Addo expressed his gratitude to President Macky Sall of Senegal for stepping down Senegal’s candidature in favour of Ghana, and also showed his appreciation to the leaders of Egypt and Ethiopia, their Excellencies Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Abiy Ahmed respectively, for similar gestures of solidarity. Whilst applauding the member states that have deposited their instruments of ratification at the AU Commission Headquarters in Addis Ababa, the President expressed his delight at the decision taken by Nigeria to sign up to the Agreement, stressing that “the adhesion of Nigeria to the Free Trade Area has enhanced considerably its prospects of success”. With the AfCFTA now the world’s largest free trade area since the formation of the World Trade Organisation, it will cover a market of 1.2 billion people, with a combined gross domestic product (GDP) of $2.5 trillion, across the fifty-four (54) Member States of the African Union that have signed up to the Agreement. “We have, today, taken very important steps towards working with a common voice and a common purpose to exploit the abundant wealth and resources of our great continent for the benefit of all our peoples. Indeed, the ‘Africa We Want’ is achievable,” the President said. President Akufo-Addo assured his colleague Heads of State that Ghana will put all the requisite facilities at the disposal of the Secretariat so that it can run as a world-class organisation. In addition, and pursuant to the Statutes of the AU Commission, he indicated that the Secretariat shall enjoy the privileges and immunities stipulated in the OAU General Convention on Privileges and Immunities, the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Privileges and Immunities, and the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties and the Vienna Convention between States and International Organisations or between International Organisations. The President urged Assembly to direct the AU Commission to prepare and execute a host-country agreement in accordance with the Executive Council Decision EX.CL/195 (VII) Rev.1 of July 2005 on hosting AU Organs; and hold consultations with Ghana and key stakeholders to prepare the statutes of the AfCFTA Secretariat with a view toward providing a report for the consideration of the Council of Ministers of Trade. “Ghana is ready to donate US$10 million to the African Union to support the operationalisation of the Secretariat. I have set up an inter-Ministerial Committee of my government to work with the AU Commission towards this end,” he indicated. President Akufo-Addo also called on pan-African institutions such as the UN Economic Commission for Africa, the African Development Bank, the African Export-Import Bank and other key stakeholders, including friends of Africa, to provide such support as they can towards the establishment of the Secretariat. “I am determined to do whatever I can to guarantee the smooth take-off of the Secretariat, and help make sure that it turns out to be a world-class institution, which will become the pride and joy of all Africans,” he said. President Akufo-Addo added, “We owe it to generations unborn to ensure that the biggest trading bloc on the globe, whose outcomes will be rewarding to all, and which will assist in attaining the “Africa We Want”, does not falter.” Source: Myjoyonline.com |
Ghana fire fountain ..... visit kumasi......
|
samorobo:It will indirectly and directly increase the foreign investment to Ghana. Ghana will become a deal broker . it will allow her to intervene into any trade agreement and can bargain on behalf of any trades partner. In a nut shell, Ghana indeed will become an authority on regional trade. |
pacretus:i am not of aware of that. |
tylann:Yes, cement is nearly produce in whole africa country. But remember where are talking about supply and demand here. Nigeria has the ability to crush down the price and still make more profit. dangote cement is the reasons behind the stable price of cements in Ghana, my own stake is that every country must ensure that goods allowed into their country are those that does not have competitive advantage over the local product. otherwise it will be a catastrophe. There are lot of cash crops. Yam, cassava, pineapple maize etc.... |
tylann:i disagree . Nigeria has a large cement base industry. And in agricture, Nigeria will really benefit. only few people know Nigeria is among top ginger producing country in the world. And likewise many tree crops and cash crops. |
tylann:follow by Egypt. Nigeria will also benefit at large. |
tylann:Aluminium and textiles aren't natural resources. even cocoa chocolate is manufactured apart from that, there are lot of processing buisness we can trade within. e.g Agro processing. south Africa and Egypt has a lot to offer in this category. though Ghana can match up. she sold her local manufactured cars to Liberia some years ago. |
tylann:in my head now. in primary commodity. cocoa beans, Tuna fish( ghana is the largest exporter of tuna fish to Europe). shea butter, coconut oil, palm oil . etc manufactured product ( cocoa chocolate, aluminium, hard liquor, Textile etc.... |
tylann:Do you mean what she has to offer in terms of trade. |
samorobo:Well ecowas headquater is located in abuja and that of AU is located in Ethiopia. All represent one thing. it is symbol of authority which means it will position Ghana image both regional and globally. But this time around not on political influence but economic influence. South Africa alone has NEPAD, The APRM Secretariat, and the Pan African Parlaiment. Kenya has African Union's Institute for Animal Research (IBAR) Egypt will soon get the HQ of the Post-Conflcit Reconstruction and Development (PCRD). All this position change the dynamic outlook of a nation. positively. |
Mkenya2019:well deserved. |
pacretus:well considering her manufacturing base and economic strength in total with population . she automatically deserved it. likewise kenya or south Africa . Nigeria will have been in a better position but she is not part of the country championing the interest to host it as she recently sign the agreement. Ghana success is just base on negotiation power of the current president and the ealier influence of kwame inkrumah to solidarize africa. |
gallivant:Lol.. . you will be a good student. |
SUFFERInSMILIIN:Yes , it is coming. Almost every Ghana media have this report. meaning, it is a valid source. Ghana is not giant. It is just a matter of a good negotiation power by Ghanaian president himself. He actually went to Egypt just at the begining of afcon to lobby their goverment into submission. Egypt actually should be hosting it. |
gallivant:Actually some powerful business man in Nigeria were behind Nigeria reluctant. I think they have been well educated about it |
""Ghana is expected to be announced as the host country for the Secretariat of the AfCFTA, after beating off competition from countries like Egypt, Ethiopia, Eswatini, Kenya, Senegal and Madagascar. This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Director of Communication of the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin"". |
gallivant:All africa country have sign. benin and Nigeria are now included. |
Kazikazi:we does have a lot to sell to each orther if you include biotech/pharma. Plenty of drug research happen in west africa for instance and crops research. well even if we have little, we can always start from somewhere. |
breaking news. Nigeria sign the trade accord. she is now a full memeber of AFCTA. |
super eagle play a good game at the end. I am impressed. |
suregalluv:Good observation. that tell why Nigeria failed in the major regional examination ( wassce) Ghana which Nigeria always consider an inferior country makes wave continuously... currently, there is a competition going on in the country bigger than AFCON . national maths and science competition among secondary school. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az35rRNouLA |
Mikeoyee:No, they are not. They are Yoruba fraction of Benin republic. Yoruba ethnic group is not only in Nigeria. |
Nigeria passport used to be one of the best passport in africa during the oil boom (1958 to somewhere around 1970s. what happen now still take our old dad and mom by surprise. then Ghana passport is as useless as nothing. nobody want to deal with a poor country. many Ghanaian had to obtain Nigeria passport just to get to England. GHANA rapid change overtime is what Nigeria can learn. |
Problemkid1:Ghana remains Nigeria’s largest trade partner and favourite investment hub in the West Africa sub-region, as Ghana imports the largest share of all Nigerian gas exports in the West African sub-region. so Ghana isn't a joke to Nigeria economy. And nevertheless, over 1 million tonnes of dangote cement are exported to Ghana annually. The two country enjoy regional cooperation at top level but the citizens care less about that. |
spendoon:well, economy and political issues tends not to be a big deal. but in the mater of domestic issues like marriage, there is traces of tribal differences in the North but you might not know. hardly will shuwa arabs hand over her daughter to kanuri man unless he is very rich. even Hausa don't marry fulani as easy like that. just of recent fulani are getting married to Yoruba in ilorin. A development very uncommon in the past. And you know what. It is the prominent Yoruba of ilorin getting married to the royal house of fulani. The tribal differences is not as tough down west anyway due to religion. |
spendoon:hopefully. Ghana is currently producing two hundered thousand barrel a day with the plan of increasing it to five hundered thousand by 2022. even if Ghana discover another chunk of oil today, she will not produce the half of what Nigeria is producing. GHANA is still a new comer, she only start production in 2010 . so due to technicality and equipment expenses, it will take some time to rival Nigeria. |
mtisTheQubit:oil and gas play a significant role in the problem of the country. if you understand this well, then you will get my point and what i mean by conflict of interest.today. minoroty ijaw and igbo are majorly Christian but they don't even get together in politics . Ghana also has tribal differences but not a major threat., just of recent some part of Ghana are threating to break away. But goverment handle it wisely. It does not become a global concern. many Ghanaian living in Ghana are not even aware of the news. |
