in all honesty, Dangote successful refinery will be a game changer Nigeria and other sub-Saharan African countries would soon heave a sigh of relief from the importation of petroleum products, with the imminent completion of the 650,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) Dangote Refinery at Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos. Group Executive Director, Strategy, Capital Projects & Portfolio Development, Devakumar Edwin, made this statement on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, during the opening of the Ghana International Petroleum Conference (GhIPCON), which took place in Accra, Ghana. This year’s conference held under the theme: ‘Regional Collaboration: A Catalyst for Transformation,” organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and the National Petroleum Authority, was attended by stakeholders in the petroleum sector in the West Africa region. Represented by the Technical Adviser to the President of Dangote Group on Refinery and Petrochemicals, Ign. Babajide Soyode, Mr. Edwin expressed the belief that the completion of Dangote Refinery and other modular refineries projects across West Africa, would lead to the integration of the downstream industries and stabilise the prices of petroleum products across the African sub-region. He stressed the need for other investors in West Africa to emulate the investment drive of Aliko Dangote in the downstream petroleum sector and make the sub-region exporter of refined products. He also urged investors in sub-Saharan Africa to take the bull by the horn by investing in the downstream sector. According to him, “If Dangote can do it, any investor can do it. Dangote has not waited for government to regulate the downstream sector before starting the construction of the refinery.” “We don’t need foreign investors to turn around our downstream sector. African investors should be able to emulate Dangote and revive the African downstream petroleum industry,” he added. He assured that the refinery is designed to process multiple grades of domestic and foreign crude, which can be converted into high-quality gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuels that meet Euro V emissions specifications. The facility, according to him, would be integrated with a petrochemical unit that will produce polypropylene and fertilisers. Mr. Edwin said Nigeria would soon become the largest exporter of fertiliser in Africa as the Dangote Fertiliser Company is set to commence full production. According to him, pre-commissioning activities have started while construction work is still on-going at the Dangote Refinery site. Speaking also at the event, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, assured stakeholders in the petroleum downstream industry that government would create an enabling environment for downstream business to thrive competitively, efficiently and with the highest of safety standards. “Government, through the Ministry of Energy is in the process of ensuring institutional and regulatory re-alignment of the midstream gas subsector to bring clarity and a degree of certainty to players within that subsector,” he said. The GhIPCON is designed to actively bring to the fore the operating industry’s perspective and guidance on issues of governmental and regulatory policy, as well as best practices for the advancement of the industry across West Africa. The conference witnessed a convergence of about 250 regulators and downstream industry stakeholders from across the West African sub-region and beyond. The event stimulated regional discussions that set the tone for a West African policy framework on the outlook of the petroleum downstream industry, regulate petroleum downstream infrastructure projects, efficiency and financing. Participants discussed whether or not West Africa was ready for IMO 2020 and fuel specification trends, making West African refineries work, tackling illicit activities, fuel fraud and supply chain security in the West African sub-region, as well as consumerising West Africa’s natural gas. Topics discussed at the event included: Unlocking West Africa’s Deregulatory Inertia, Making West Africa’s Refineries Work, Ghana’s Cylinder Reticulation Model, Harmonsing Sub-Regional Petroleum Products Specifications, and Challenges of Regional Distribution of Petroleum Products’. why does people say Singapore has no natural resources despite having sea? |
nemesis8u:then pass well. but don't edit my response next time. |
68816419:i hope it has been built to withstand flooding. so far no news regarding that yet. |
sofoline tunnel in kumasi. an underground walk.
|
Mkenya2019:i am actually not a fan of kantaka motors simply because it is way too expensive for ordinary Ghanaian. And about her state of origin? It is still a debate going in Ghana. kantaka director himself refuse to give more insight about this than the usual workshop and factory he has provided for investigation. Ghana first authentic car was A turtle and that was made from scrap part in kumasi. Cameroon is not part of ecowas. |
samorobo:Singapore has resources. And that is the sea that was converted to a port. It never deplit. though you may argue the same for kenya with her massive sea port. but Singapore as a city state has come along way. including the benefit of sharing border with another successful nation like Malaysia and average country of Indonesia. she even have a maritime border with south China. |
samorobo:if you may know, A country that pumps 2.3 million barrels of oil in a day automatically should have more investment going on in her field. particularly Ghana and Nigeria share similar model of economy. The two country heavily rely on natural resources. And Ghana overtaking Nigeria in FDI despite it harbour fraction of what Nigeria have in bulk ( oil) tends to be a news. It hasn't happen before and that was the first time. but as investor dollar per capital. it is worth while to let you know Ghana has been slight ahead. Nigeria overtaking Ghana wouldn't surprise anyone because it is a position Ghana can only hold temporarily unless Ghana was lucky enough to invest heavily on her natural resources and become a full industrialized nation. a feet not impossible. mono rail as it is name suggest can only run on a single track with less speed and capacity. if you study the video I posted , you will realised it is running two rail system and has the same capacity of land rail . |
samorobo:I am honest about it. kenya is not near Ghana development using all workable indices available. but i acknowledged kenya progress with little to low natural resources. Nairobi to be honest in my veiw as a secondary observer appear modern and developed base on africa standard. I don't like comparing where I don't have primary knowledge. maybe one day I will make a visit, it is even a free visa. that make it more interesting. |
samorobo:You actually lacks teminology regarding train rapid system. And it is better you humble and learn it that will help you. GHANA didn't overtook Nigeria in GDP. no where does it mention, and that is ignorance statement . Ghana does overtake Nigeria in foreing direct investment and it is not publication made by Ghanaian media only , but important organization like Bloomberg news , global impact investment networks and reputable organization as well. well, Ghana had for the past decade attract more investors dollars per capital than nigeria. ghana with an economy less than 10% the size of Nigeria . Nearly average of billions of dollars that was invested to west attracts for the past decade, almost a quarter of this capital was invested in Ghana.Google will have enlight you.. . This is even more impressive when you consider that Ghana makes up only 5% of the west Africa total GDP.. report are given at the end of the year . this is just 6 months . It make no sense to publicize anything now. Ghana is not comparing herself with Nigeria, she is just developing at her own space. And to educate you better. below is what is known as sky train. not cable car not mono rail. Sky train is meant to handle massive population equal to land train. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRwgomiVsFg |
samorobo:Have You visit monorail.org ? . skytrain doesn't comes in various forms . every technology has its own teminology. no single skytrain in Nigeria. simple |
rvp2018:Whatever the case might be. Anyway, his idea didn't sound impressive and that is why we are still it. I am already pissed off. |
theenchanter: most you mentioned me. Anyway i will let it pass. tutorial very funny you. |
Total bullshit as usual. Goel:This is where the advantage of having initial large number of population comes into play. china Start producing things, at a profit, both for domestic use and what others want. china stop producing things, at a loss, that she and other countries do not want. And the money starts to come in, she save and invest it to the critical sector. . However, countries with high educational level, infrastructure, transport and public sector are rich countries. A poor country can't afford things like them. It keeps on investing in sectors according to its ongoing economic growth.India can become a rich country quicker than a smaller country. Tax incentive only can boost her growth. The government offer low taxes, it can even raised t revenues through a property tax on the expensive, multi-million dollar houses of the ultra-rich of India . In return the rich spend - boosting the local economy' and turning India quickly and faster to a rich country than Any smaller country. India is a lower middle income economy with indicators same as that of any lower middle income economy. They are improving at a speed in synergy with India's growing income level to transit into an upper middle income one. This is not an excuse, A good environment and a world class secondary school system populated by foreign teachers can help attract the best talent from around the world. This is what UAE is doing and Singapore. india can easily become a large manufacturer and easily own financial centre like new york or Shanghai. Once pensioners exceed taxpayers.well in India the number of income tax payer are very less. Bullsh!t was you wrote Chinese GDP exceeds US & Europe combined.bullshit as usual, Chinese GDP had once be the highest in the world. just use Google. What kind of logic is this? Just because China & India were largest economies of past, they will become so again? Why not other similar ancient civilizations like Mexico or Egypt? Why not Britain in future because it was one in previous century? You like guffing. Britain is not historically advantage like China and India. therefore there is no similarities here. even the age difference is a factor apart from their economy power. China & India are advantaged because of large populations. And when you manage to get hold of a way grow, it's way to go.Africa is africa. nothing like contemporary Africa here. is there anything like contemporary Asia? What a stupid veiw? show me evidence China was once poorer than entire africa? And let me highlight many instances African nations has been rated better than india. and to stop at this silly argument, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt are all by far at miles than india |
rvp2018:Are you the same moniker using Goel. be honest in your reply. There is so much similarity in your writting. |
samorobo:There is cable car, there is mono rail which takes less time to construct . what you have in calabar is cable car and mono rail in port Harcourt. sky train is essentially diffrence. you may need a whole lot education on this technology. I think any engineering candidate may help you out. you are having challenges with terminology. it is ignorant to referred light rail system as skytrain. they actually are elevated light rail systems. They run on conventional steel dual rails on a massive wide beam that takes longer years to achieved. nothing shows Nigeria beat Ghana in foreing direct investments. no public info on that in Ghana. what is available is last year evidence. And by fact Ghana was the fourth largest receiver of foreing direct investment in africa and first in west africa. The. hope city is a private initiative not goverment investment. unless you don't know the diffrence? 2019 is massive in Ghana, it is labelled as year of return. it is not about the money to financed the sky train. The feasibility study of the project is more important. |
samorobo:visit monorail.org to know the diffrence. |
samorobo:it was announced is diffrent from it was signed. It is two different grammer altogether. Anyway buy into any straw you want to used. The agreement was made on paper in 2018 ( fact) and feasibility study suspended to 2019. Nigeria does not have sky train ( simple) sky train is exactly similar to land train. The only difference is, it is suspended in the sky . it is the same train moving on the land nothing more. Nowhere in the entire world is private sector financed by Goverment pulse. goverment can only provide enabling buisness enviroment. tax incentives, free access to land . made banks to lends to the local market. etc. Ghana has the best buisness enabling enviroment in the entire west africa. so goverment already solve her own headache. It is left with the private sector to deal with her headache. And goverment initiative has been bearing fruits. |
Graduateacher:it isn't fake. |
samorobo:The obvious fact is, there is no sea port in ondo state and neither has the deal to start one been approved. nothing philosophical about my input here. it is just an available fact. close proximity is not a factor perse in this discussion . Tin can and lagos port complex share the same location. badagry port is cancelled not terminated. new plans wlll be developed according to the New director of NPA |
samorobo:goverment don't reimbursed private sector, goverment only facilitate a smooth ground for private sector to thrive . inability of hope city founder not continue her project is not a goverment main headache . regarding the sky train you lied, the agreement was initially signed in 2018 and the first feasibility study was carry out in the begining of this year's. The company building the sky train is in South Africa does not mean it is south Africa Goverment company. It doesn't matter if south Africa have it or not. Ghana is only executing business with the company. nah, sky train is diffrent from whatever is found in Nigeria now. sky train is simply lifting train up the sky so that it can pass thru inner city.
|
samorobo:Before i address your input. let me let you know again there is currently no port in ondo state, and the latest report about any port development is still a consideration. investment are simply not set out for political issues, plans are taking, the market size, environmental impact/ cost. purpose of the port. An all major purpose port will be viable in a supported enviroment. why build port where economy demand is sluggish or can even incurred another cost. mind you badagry port is cancelled. It does not mean, it is terminated. It is till more viable for Nigeria to have an additional port in lagos than any where in Nigeria. if you read my screenshot very well, you will realised the NPA director said they are working on a new plan for the same badagry port. what was cancelled was the initial master plan which should be redeveloped as it is poorly developed. pirates don't attack sea port, they only attack cruise ship. don't know where you get that info from. what makes sense is moving specialised port across different region that will need them the most. for example, most of the crude oil containers should be move to the south south,There should be large number of smaller ports essentially catering for local traffic and the one specialising in particular sectors such as fishing or leisure boating. All that can't be in lagos. it will reduce lagos traffic. The All purpose lagos ports industry handles 65% of Nigeria import and export by volume so lagos still need more base on volume of demand.. .. Tin can port and lagos port complex share the same location. |
samorobo:Rlg communication is a Ghanaian indigenous company and it was the success behind opon IFA ( phone tablets) by former governor of osun state . NOBODY built sky train within three years , Ghana goverment and south africa had already embark on the deal. next phase is the project execution. hope city is wrongly planned and for your info. it is a private proposal not goverment initiatives. |
samorobo:it is a proposal as it currently stands, Chinese contractor are not the only stakeholders , The community, the chiefs and the owners of the land must be carry long..... why must I update you and for what purpose will that achieve? I broadcast whatever i feel like and not purposely for you. if you need to be updated. used the search engine. |
samorobo:Your mistake here is juxtaposing a private initiative for goverment duty hope city is a dream in the pipe line. Anyway the Ghanaian responsible for that deal got a juicy contract in Nigeria from osun state goverment. marine drive will never be excuted by the goverment unless private body venture into it. which i hope it will come into fruition. Ghanaian will not allow goverment to waste money on cosmetic venture, just of late. A parliament house worth about 200 million dollars was abolished. |
samorobo:Everybody is free to agree in what he think it is acceptable but vaxx will never accept lies. lekki deap sea still remain the only obvious reality in Nigeria. - proximity is not an excuse in view of environmental issues or commercial and financial viability. |
theenchanter:You are free with your image if that pleases you. It doesn't change the reality. shekenah. |
samorobo:i Actually miss your argument anyway, comparing to tema harbour is not what i am doing here. but you are free to-do what you think might justify your lies. Tema harbour phase 1 is completed as i stated and she has received her first vessel on June 2. And about the Chinese project, visibility study must be carry out first. And the local chiefs of the land must be in agreement of the project as it is required under Ghana law. show me evidence not lies. |
theenchanter:No single improvement from that sight since two years ago. having a workable website isn't a justification of what is going on there. give us picture, fact and data we can follow. It is like me showing you keta seaport info and still claim they are working right now. warri port has been dormant for years, gov't just approved the deal to expand it in addition with the rail line project. it is yet to be executed. And judging from available data, Nigerians are known for abandoned project, it might not be executed as plan. badagry sea port is a case study. |

has their negotiations hit any positive conclusion. I figured you must have been in a hurry and probably forgot to update me on that
