asuustrike1: Hmmm! however it doesn't disprove the issues raised by him pertaining the discrimination of many Nigerians.
well, it bound to happen. Ghana can not stand the economic dominance of Nigeria. It is too small to do so. So she will rather invoke her domestic law to that effect. She need to be protected. . 30million vs 200 million. That is something to fear. Every reasonable individual needs to reasons with that. That is why respectable African leader want us to unite instead of separation. United africa can negotiate equal terms with super power like China or USA. Country such as togo can't even have an idea when India is negotiating. We need unity not separation.
RTSC: That Nigerian professor in ghana said ghanian schools are far worse than their Nigerian counterpart.
Yet the deluded prof still seek for contract extention in a country he assume is inferior to Nigeria. What an unneccasry pride. Well, he already apologise for his statement.
Swanzi: When will u learn sense? U keep wining who..?? That university is not even up to the 5top universities in Ghana and is even suited for the rich n dumb Ghanaian kid as matter of fact no one wants to go there unless of course Scholarship ..
UniversIty are not rated in Ghana. That system of discrimination does not exist for now. Ghana has UniversIty college and autonomous awarding degree university. Zenith is under university of cape cost. Cape coast award her degree. Meaning the degree is at par with UCC. Actually the colledge is very cheap and one of the low paying colledge in Ghana.
effty: Glorified Senior High School. I don't rate anyone who studied there.
which school do you attend ? And how do you rate a UniversIty? I have recruited a Nigerian in that school . She completed and she is currently running her masters at Beijing normal university in China( one of the best university in china) and at the same time working as an English teacher.
So will you tell me which school produce you before you condemn other schools.
TayserMahri: Sad day. I'm actually horrified for a close family member with a similar blood thing but on remission. Went through a similar treatment process as well. If cancer had a chance it would murder everyone.
i learnt he will rather be cremated instead of buried . That is interesting. And about your close family member, be strong about it. Actually any type of Cancer has no cure not just blood thing alone. but early detection and treatment can prolong life. Most people who die from cancer disease is when the disease is advanced, and become very resistant to chemotherapy. At least bob was in UK for treatment.
Feeling very sad. Just heard the passing away of kenya base buisness mogul Bob Collymore. He is actually a friend to Ghana former president John mahama.
What a loss!!
He built Safaricom into the biggest and most prosperous brand in East Africa.
Farewell bob. Kenya and east Africa will surely miss you.
Yyeske: Their massive forex reserve can sustain their currency up there unlike Ghana that just pulled out some zeroes to make the cedis look valuable when it's not. Our GDP both nominal and PPP per capita is still higher than theirs, not even talking about the GDP nominal and PPP itself. We are over 200 million and they are just 25 million, equivalent to Lagos. Just Lagos and Ogun states would flush them off even without the rest of Nigeria coming in
You actually lumping and binding flaws as fact And the most interesting horseshit in your ignorance is about ""lagos and ogun state flushing them off"".
Go learn about demographic dividends first before you argue.
9jaRealist: Seriously, do you actually understand basic English?!
You are FACTUALLY INCORRECT! Nigeria CURRENTLY meets the fiscal deficit convergence criteria (and has CONSISTENTLY done so since 2007). Nigeria’s fiscal deficit in 2018 was less than 1.5% of the GDP, and the projection for 2019 is 1.3% of GDP. Under the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007, the governments’ fiscal deficits (as it is also domesticated by the states) are NOT allowed to surpass 3% of GDP. >
Then which of my input is still incorrect with yours. Stop footing ignorance. If the convergence criteria are not revised to reflect the real macroeconomic situation in the sub-region, the single currency dream will remain work-in-progress for the unforeseeable future. Nigeria in all fact, is not meeting up.
9jaRealist: First, those posts were mostly (if not all) BEFORE yours.. Thus, NOT “technically wrong” with anything. You just have a problem understanding basic English. Cheers. >
Lol. I suggest you have a challenge understanding basic terms. You don't use the word incorrect when it is not necessary.
9jaRealist: Meanwhile, the only limited thing I flagged as “incorrect” was your FACTUAL misstatement about Nigeria’s fiscal deficit... >
Lol. But that is the policy binding eco currency implementation. Which Nigeria currently does not meet. You are only stating Nigeria domestic law was to be blame for that as it does not encouraged it to meet the law. Which i later let you know it is the reasons behind the current mess in Nigeria.
9jaRealist: What are going on about? Exactly what part of “Nigeria will NOT be ready” was too difficult to understand?! >
2020 is just by the corner. Nigeria will not be ready shouldn't be too difficult for you not to comprehend. And which of my input is incorrect to you this time.
TayserMahri: No dont give Nigeria that excuse. The game was purely random. Madagascar won on merit by turning Naija into a lil bitch
so you mean Madagascar tactically turn the super eagle into super chicken. About 70 percent possession for the eagles yet the possession does not materialized into 1 single goal. Very sad .
I can count more than two Nigerian international boxers.
Just Google search the image or bring your own fact. What an ignorance excuse. Everybody knows Ghana is a miles ahead of Nigeria when it comes to boxing.
But I wonder why Africa are not producing sci-fi movie. Apart from slavery, witchcraft , romance and the rest. We should also project something we want from africa in the future . Maybe our scientist can plan ahead.
Check out this animation film by nafti Ghana. It was aim to warn people about investing in ponsi scheme. It is substitute in English. So no barrier.
You are INCORRECT though with respect to the fiscal deficit... Under Nigeria’s Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007, the government cannot have a fiscal deficit of more than 3% - and it hasn’t since 2007! >
Again, Nigeria is not ready simple. You cant expect a country that operates a federal system of government, with each tier of government adopting its own fiscal policy without proper coordination or alignment and without caring about its systemic effect not to be warry of the effect. Nigeria system currently retards macroeconomic stability. It is reasonable for Nigeria to kick against it.maybe when the country is restructured as atiku wanted.
9jaRealist: You do realize that the communique was signed by ALL of the ECOWAS heads of government (including the CFA Zone members)?
Not sure why you presume to be speaking for them but I recall reading sometime ago (and frankly it’s a shame that history is not prioritized in Nigeria) that when the late Prof Adebayo Adedeji (the first and longest-serving Chief Executive of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and a former Under-Secretary General of the UN) first proposed the setting up of ECOWAS, in his capacity then as Nigeria’s Economic Development Minister, it was met with strong opposition particularly from among the Francophone/CFA nations (with France reportedly describing it as a proposal for a “Greater Nigeria”). Ultimately, it took over 5 years of negotiations and dialogue to bring ECOWAS to fruition.
Accordingly, let’s all step back and view these pronouncements as a strong statement of intent, but ultimately it has to make sense for all of the parties involved (and one suspects there might even be a fair amount of compromise). Nonetheless, this was a BIG step forward. >
personally, i love the idea anyway, i even envisaged it might cut across all the 54 africa state later. Just before the independence. All Anglophone countries of west Africa spends British west africa pound and it was pegged to the British pound. The idea was very fine then .But Nigeria as of today isn't ready. Nigeria have failed to meet the criteria of having a single digit inflation rate and a fiscal deficit of no more than four percent annually. . Only Ghana to me seems ready to float this idea.
Ugosample: Akuffo Addo indicate Ghana should go ahead without Nigeria the same Addo and Ramaphosa that was in Abuja begging For Nigeria to sign AfTA
that is funny
Ghana is NOT strong as of yet to carry such burden of lose its monetary sovereignty, it is still fragile, like the rest of the countries, so Ghana should not deceive itself as of yet
We need ti work on ourselves for say 10 to 15 years before we even think of implementing this.
Ghana biggest trading partners are still outside the continent
Akuffo Addo should better think this through
Nigeria market size is enough to hamper trade growth among the sub region hence the presence of the above head goverment in Nigeria.
Nigeria economy prowess is still not realiable like that of Egypt and south Africa which already sign up to the trade . We are talking about the ability to buy and sell here..
Anyway unitary monetary zone is diffrent from regional market integration. Switzerland is not part of euro currency agreenment yet she is part of the regional trade. Even far away Australia.
grandlexuz: Lucky Enough You Say Hahaha. Much recently there have been huge protests on the demerits of the CFA, with many average citizens of the CFA zone claiming its giving France an unfair advantage. A few months back the Italian Premier launched an attack on the French for ripping off French Africa through the CFA francs. There was outcry on the streets of most CFA countries. With as much as 90% of the average man wanting to see it phased out.Lol. I am from Cameroon though. However I personally think the CFA is a 50/50 thing. Offering some monetary stability to the CFA zone and at sametime benefitting the French.
That is irony bro. Francophone country are actually in a mess
Ugosample: If Ghana and Nigeria knows what is good for themselves
they better boycott that currency
Ghana is playing an experiment with the IMF and the cedi is dancing shoki
Will Ghana be able to do that if there is a single currency?
Akuffo Addo that short man better use his sense
economical wise, cedis is not doing bad becuse it is in free flow and all the economic fundamental of Ghana suggest the country is in a good shape. Therefore the cedis depreciation can be attribute to external factor rather than domestic issue. In lay man language , Ghana just need to drastically reduce her dependence on importation and increases her exportation and everything will be fine. But Nigeria case is a bit a worry. The naira rate is not the true reflection of the currency . It is overvalued by 20 percent at least according to imf. More than 40 billion dollar so far has been injected to the forex to save naira.
I think the idea will really benefit Ghana as it is gradually increasing her trade volume across ecowas sub region. Ghana already positions itself well, the economic activity in the ECOWAS region is improving and most of the large economies are experiencing economic rebound . Just check Ghana trade volume within the sub region of recent, Ghana is well integrated among the francophone state now. Infact akuffo addo already indicate Ghana should go ahead with the rest without Nigeria.
9jaRealist: Again, while I am personally NOT a fan of monetary unions, this is NOT a short-term project... ECOWAS has already been at it for over 20 years, and Mr. Buhari will likely be out of office by the time it’s implemented (if ever). >
Nigeria for now is not in good economic shape to stabilized it if the currency roll out . I will advocate Ghana and the rest to implement it without Nigeria if the need is urgent while Nigeria follow later.
The idea is to start with the WAMZ-ECO and then subsequently “merge” it with the CFA... Significance of this communique is that all 15 ECOWAS states are now fully committed to the ECO common currency (whenever it may arrive). >
The central bank of west african( CFA monetary zone) is located in Senegal while France control and print the currency. France back up CFA. Even CFA is pegged to the euro In return for guaranteeing the currency, France holds 50 percent of the foreign exchange reserves of the C.F.A. franc countries in its treasury. How will France allow is discontinuity.? Francophones country are lucky enough.
9jaRealist: It will likely be phased in... Starting with payment systems integration this year. >
The idea will be discussed in the Senate. That is when Nigeria will kick it out. Even buhari already caution against it in Niamey. When we are talking about currency, we are talking about the life line of a country so monetary discipline is well needed which so far is not available in ecowas sub region.
Another reasons Nigeria will be against it is the limited control over Franc CFA by Francophone West African countries. Which is not ready to face out soon.
Parablesonmarble: I think WAFRO would be a better suggestion. ECO is from Economic Community Of, which is kind of a general thing. WAFRO would be from West Africa which is more indicative of the concerned region. But what do I know? Aside that, I wish someone would enlighten me on the benefit of this kind of deal for Nigeria in view of Britain pulling out of a saner Euro. I feel kind of uneasy with Morocco encroachment on the region.
Not all west african state are buying into it. The francophone for instance are not part. They will only integrate the acceptance of the money into their local market . It will not replace cfa
Focusmind: Will ECO survive? Monetary union is based on strong economic fundamentals of member union. Certain things needs to be in place before implementation. Things like sound micro economics, fiscal discipline in member states, huge export potentials in member states, political stability and peace.
All these are lacking in ECOWAS. Nigeria economy which should be about 60% of the sub-regional economy is not doing well and can't support itself talk more of supporting fragile economy of member state the same way Germany is the pillar of EURO and supporting fragile member states like Greece and others with huge debt.
The burden of ECO will be much on Nigeria and our export potential apart from oil is negligible. This will make ECO exchange with measure hard currencies to be worthless. More over, not everybody should be admitted into ECO. Requirements for admission must be set and those who meet the conditions will be admitted the same way EUROPEAN union set targets for membership admission. You must meet certain fiscal and economic and political criteria. These are to ensure stability and survival of the single currency. Ecowas should first study the European union.
so far , only Ghana meet the requirement .The idea will not be actualize by 2020. Nigeria, the main pillar of ecowas economy is yet to get it right.
