A woman who attempted to sell her twin girls for N350,000 has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command.

Salima Lawal, 30, initially insisted on selling her twin girls for the sum of N400,000 but later settled for N350,000.

The twin girls who were named Hassana and Hussaina were said to be just thirty-two days old.

The State's Commissioner of Police, CP Besen Gwana who confirmed the incident on Wednesday said Salima was arrested following a tip off information by a good Samaritan, one Babangida who posed as a buyer.

He said: “On 2/12/2017 at about 21:00hrs, the Command based on a tip-off arrested one Salima Lawal aged 30yrs of Marabar Kankara, Malumfashi LGA of Katsina state who had negotiated to sell her twin children at the sum of three hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N350,000:00K) to one good Samaritan in Ruwan Godiya village, Faskari LGA of Katsina state.

It was also reported that she was married with two kids earlier and later had a baby, including the set of twins for her present husband who claimed he had divorced her two years ago.

The commissioner urged people to continue to assist police with
information that would assist in curbing criminal acts in the state.

Chargé d’affaires of Nigeria in Libya, Mr. Illiya Fachano, says some Nigerians in Libya have refused to be repatriated despite the “unfavourable situations”.

Mr. Illiya Fachano said: “Not all of them want to come back home.”

“Before you can assist them, they will have to sign a consent form, after which emergency travel certificates are issued.

“I want the public to know that we have some Nigerians who are not willing to return in spite of the unfavourable situations; and the fact is that we can’t get them on the flight without their consent.

“Migration is natural and has always happened; but it becomes an issue when there are people migrating illegally, meaning the migrants arrive without proper documentation and conceal their identity.

“What we do is to identify the Nigerians in the camps, register them, then issue them emergency travel certificates. Those who happen to be sick get medical treatments before being confirmed to fly.

“The Internationl Organisation for Migration has rallied the support of the European nations and particularly, Italy, for the Libyan Coast Guards who are particularly ordered to prevent boats that smuggle migrants and refugees from Libya to Europe.

“Because the coast guards at the Mediterranean Sea are professionally trained and well-funded by the EU, they have captured many people who are trying to illegally cross to Europe and returned them to Libya.

“Unfortunately, we have noticed that in every batch of people brought back to Libya from Europe or the Mediterranean Sea, a larger number of the migrants come from Nigeria because of our population, causing us to have much more Nigerians to be repatriated,’’ he said.

A young Australian maintenance worker has died after cleaning a very hot tank of ink at a western Sydney factory.

He was one of three workers who became trapped at the Auburn site shortly before 9am on Thursday.

According to Daily Mail, his other two colleagues were rescued from the Chisholm Road premises owned by DIC Australia, with one of them trapped for several hours.

However, the worker who died remained in the vat. A stretcher was seen being carried to the accident scene shortly after 1.20pm.

It is believed the workers were trapped in a mixing arm of the ink vat.

New South Ambulance superintendent Paul Turner said the deceased man, aged in his thirties, had been trapped by his legs, describing the area as 'a very difficult scene'.

"There was still ink on the floor of the vat, which hampered rescue efforts and treatment," he told Daily Mail. "It's extremely hot inside the vat," he said.

"Very limited personnel have been able to get inside."

Special operations paramedics have been dispatched to the six-metre high vat 'shaped like a large battery'.

The deceased is yet to be formally identified and his body remains in the tank, a NSW Police spokesman said.

Detectives have established a crime scene and are investigating.

Angry youths from Nneoche Umuoma Nzerem in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State reportedly killed a serving school head teacher.

Mr. Cosmas Nwaiwu, 57, who was said to have been killed on Wednesday, November, 29, 2017, was the Head Teacher of Obolo Primary School, Ehime Mbano.

Mr. Nwaiwu's corpse was said to have been set ablaze after he was allegedly lynched by the youths from the community.

Mr. Nwaiwu was lynched on the allegation that he was diabolically manipulating the destiny of three members of his extended family.

An unnamed widow in the community was also said to have accused the deceased of being responsible for her husband’s death.

A source close to the family said that the President General of the community, Mr. Nnanna Okonkwo, mobilised the youths of the area, who besieged Nwaiwu’s house, killed the headmaster and set his corpse on fire.

Another source close to the family of the deceased said that Nwaiwu was killed as result of envy by his close relations, who felt that he was making more progress in life than them.

“He was not into any diabolical (act) at all. As a teacher, who was nearing retirement, he managed to build a bungalow of four rooms for his immediate family over the years that he was in service.

“But these nephews of his, who did not go to school, did not learn a trade and are not into any business, cooked up the story that he was the one bewitching them,” the family source added.

Russia has been banned from competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang by the International Olympic Committee.

The ban follows a lengthy investigation into allegations of state-sponsored doping at the 2014 Games hosted by Russia in Sochi.

Some Russian athletes will be allowed to compete under a neutral flag after proving they are clean.

‘This was an unprecedented attack on the integrity of the Olympic Games and sport,’ said IOC president Thomas Bach.

‘This should draw a line under this damaging episode and serve as a catalyst for a more effective anti-doping system.’

The country's deputy prime minister, Vitaly Mutko, was handed a lifetime ban, preventing him from having any involvement in the Olympic Games.

The IOC also fined the ROC $15m to reimburse the costs of their investigations and help set up a new Independent Testing Authority.

The Edo State police command has arrested four men for using fake bank alert to buy cars from car dealers in Delta state.

The four suspects identified as Samuel Ogie, Osayande Osagbe, Omorodion Matthew and Prince Owens Elema, all specialise in sending fake bank alert to buy vehicles from car dealers in Edo and Delta states.

The arrests were made known to newsmen by the state commissioner of police, Babatunde Johnson Kokumo, according to LIB.

Kokumo said the suspects purchased a Toyota Corolla car from a car dealer in Delta State but were arrested after a discreet investigation in Edo State.

He said the suspects approached a car shop at Ekpan in Delta State under the pretence of buying a vehicle and told the car dealer that they would pay through bank transfer.

One of the suspects reportedly did the transfer and the car dealer confirmed that he had received the alert on his phone, which made him allow the fraudsters to take the car away.

He said the scam was discovered when the car dealer happily went to the bank to withdraw money.

“I want to inform the public that scammers are everywhere. It is possible to receive credit alert when nothing has been transferred to your account,” he said.

After a wave of midnight attacks in Malawi against people accused of vampirism, the stories continue to cause problems.

'Victims' of the blood-sucking vampires claim they are being attacked in the night by vampires, scary stories which have triggered deadly vigilante violence in the country.

At least seven people have been killed in Mulanje district after being hunted down, police say.

The stories are all about being pierced by something, which could mean something else, like someone trying to spread a virus.

Jamiya Bauleni, a 40-year-old single mother, is one of the people claiming to have fallen victim to a wave of alleged vampire attacks.

Bauleni while recounting her experience before barefoot children in Ngolongoliwa village in the country's south, said that an attacker sucked her blood in the night of October 2 at her home in Thyolo district.

"This is not hearsay," she told a fascinated crowd as people edged closer to listen. "I know my blood was sucked."

"I saw light on the corner of my roof. I failed to stand up from my bed and felt something piercing my left arm," she said, pointing near her breast.

Bauleni, who makes a living selling wild pea stew, said that before she fell unconscious she heard someone fleeing the scene.

She was taken to a clinic and later discharged after being given vitamin supplements, but she chose not to report the attack.

Another victim of the blood-sucking vampires, Florence Kalunga, 27, says she was sleeping alongside her husband in their home when she saw a light 'like fire'.

'I heard the door open. I felt something like a needle in my finger,' she said.

The people targeted by vengeful mobs are often wealthier individuals in rural parts of the southern African country, where grinding poverty and poor educational standards are the norm.

Entrepreneur Orlendo Chaponda narrowly avoided an attack when 2,000 villagers, some carrying machetes and stones, stormed his home in Thyolo on September 30.

"They said I was keeping blood suckers," said Chaponda, who was out at the time. "They could have killed me if they found me."

He called the police who fired tear gas to disperse the crowd after a five-hour standoff.

"There is no truth about blood suckers, but jealous people and thugs want to take advantage to attack rich people," Chaponda said.

"If you have a nice car, you are a bloodsucker."

Malawian President Peter Mutharika was even forced to step in and insist that the government had the situation under control.

'There is no evidence of blood suckers. It's a lie meant to destabilise the region,' he said recently. 'Those spreading rumours will face the law.'

Anthony Mtuta, assistant lecturer in anthropology at the Catholic University of Malawi, said the roots of the vampire scares were in 'economic hardships and inequalities'.

'It's the rich versus the poor. The poor believe the rich are greedy and are sucking the blood of poor people,' he said.

Malawi is largely reliant on foreign aid, but some locals view the assistance with suspicion.

'To villagers, the thinking is that no gift is for free... you pay back through blood,' said Mtuta.

He has researched the vampire phenomenon and has warned that violence would "resurface unless the government learns how to handle contemporary issues".

McDonald Kolokombe, a clerk at the state-run Likhubula forest reserve, noted that the number of tourists visiting the Mulanje area had collapsed since mid-September.

“The communities rely on visitors to feed their families working as tour guides, porters and selling curios,” he said.

“We are starving because of a bad rumour about blood suckers,” added amateur tour guide Eric Yohane. “It is a big lie.”

At least 250 people have been arrested in Malawi over the mob violence, and 40 more arrested over similar crimes in neighbouring Mozambique.

A police force have warned Christmas party goers to get consent before they 'bump into that special someone under the mistletoe' - or they could be committing rape.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) posted the message yesterday, drawing hundreds of mocking comments attacking the force for 'trivialising' rape.

"If you bump into that special someone under the mistletoe tonight, remember that without consent it is rape #SeasonsGreetings," the tweet, which has since been deleted, reads.

The message was then shared hundreds of times, attracting a backlash that was both angry and bemused.

A female corrections officer from Ohio has been arrested after she admitted having sex with at least one inmate.

Nakisha Newell, 28, has been charged with two counts of felony sexual battery and two counts of conveyance.

Newell was immediately fired after detectives in Butler County got a tip that she was bringing contraband into the county jail, including a cell phone and electronic cigarettes, Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones announced Monday.

Newell had worked at the correctional facility for 18 months.

When she was questioned about the smuggled items, the 28-year-old woman reportedly admitted to having sex with a male inmate.

“Being a corrections officer is a noble but tough job,” Jones said. “These men and women work hard and always have to be on their guard. My employees take pride in their work and strive to ensure this facility maintains a great reputation. She has tarnished that and I do not want people like that working for me.”

Newell could face additional charges as the investigation continues to unfold.

The investigation into Newell got under way after an 'observant corrections sergeant' tipped off her superiors about her activities related to suspected contraband, which he 'didn’t think were right,' according to Major Mike Craft, of the Sheriff’s Office.

In a country where the unemployment rate skyrockets daily due to high influx of graduates into the labour market, Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai just approved the sack of more than '4,000' government workers.

The state commissioner for local government and Chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Jafaru Sani, who confirmed the sack yesterday at a press conference, said the exercise was part of the ongoing restructuring of the local government system for effective service delivery.

Sani added that those whose appointments were terminated would equally be paid their November salary, one month salary in lieu of notice and gratuity according to the civil service rule.

“It is a known fact that the LGAs were overburdened by redundant and unproductive staff who are contributing nothing to the development of the councils.

“Because of the over-bloated staff, the LGAs are doing nothing other than paying salaries and end up becoming more or less a poverty alleviation centres, where people just go to collect money and go home.

“To ensure development at the local levels, therefore, we have to do what is right by downsizing the redundant staff to free some funds that would be injected in developmental projects.

“With the disengagement, the supporting members of staff at the 23 LGAs are now 6,732, excluding primary school teachers and primary health care workers.

“I am sure, with this development, local government areas will soon start executing capital and development projects to provide social services to the people.”

The affected workers trooped to the council secretariats to stage a protest against the government action.

One of the affected workers, who pleaded anonymity, spoke with The Guardian, saying: “Some of us are now victims of this government sack after teachers have been sacked.

“We are appealing to the governor to consider our families and the number of years that we have put into service in the state. This treatment is inhuman and not acceptable.”

An Argentine woman has been arrested after reportedly cutting off her boyfriend's penis with a pair of gardening shears while he's asleep.

Brenda Barattini, 26, allegedly "sliced off" her 40-year-old boyfriend's penis after breaking into his house in the dead of the night.

Ms Barattini was arrested by cops in Cordoba, Argentina, after her bleeding boyfriend, identified only as Sergio F, managed to get to the phone and call paramedics.

The man was rushed to hospital with "sharp cuts to the penis and testicles" after losing a large amount of blood but is now in a stable condition.

It is unclear whether medics were able to locate the man's severed genitals and if it will be possible to reattach them.

Her lawyer, Carlos Nayi, said: "There’s justification for what happened. The information I’ve received is that she was the victim of a sex attack.

"She let him into her apartment because he’s someone who’s in a rock band and is an acquaintance of her brother but once inside, instead of removing a musical instrument as he was supposed to, he attacked her sexually and she assumed a defensive attitude. Whether or not she acted excessively is for the courts to decide."

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a Lagos banker who tortured his wife to death at their home on Peluola Street, Oworonshoki, in the Bariga area of the state.

Olaoluwa Adejo, 32, tortured his 28-year-old wife of five years, Maureen with a belt, as well as cutting her with a machete.

Their five-year-old son, Richard, in whose presence the incident reportedly happened said his father also forced a local insecticide, otapiapia, down the throat of his mother.

He said: "I am Richard Adejo. I am five years old. My daddy beat my mummy with a belt; machete her here (shows arms), machete her here (shows legs). He used the belt on her here (points at face); forced my mummy to drink otapiapia (insecticide). My daddy took my mummy away.

“My daddy said my mummy should get out of the house. My mummy said no. In the night, my daddy woke my mummy up and said, ‘Mosquito is too much, let me go and buy otapiapia’. My daddy forced my mummy to drink it. She shook her head. She vomited.

“My daddy slapped my mummy. My mummy did not do anything to him. My daddy gave her one blow. My daddy kicked her. My daddy told her to get out of the house and carry her load. Small blood came out. My daddy slapped her, kicked her, machete her, blow her, and put otapiapia in her mouth and in the food.”

The victim’s mother, Mrs. Kate Jonathan, told the Punch that Richard had given more graphic details of the incident to family members, police authorities and officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.

She said her daughter had packed out of her matrimonial house five days to the incident and was living with her when she decided to return for a party at the children's school. She said she never returned alive.

She said: “I was called on the telephone by an unknown number around 4pm on Sunday, November 12. The caller said, ‘Your daughter’s husband has killed her at Oworo’. He dropped the call.

“Around 5pm when I got to their house, I discovered that the house was locked up. There were two boys guarding the house and they refused to open the door to me, saying the owner of the house instructed them not to open the door.

“I didn’t see my daughter or her husband. I was begging them to open the door when I saw Richard jumping up through the window. He saw me and asked the boys to open the door, but they refused.

“I broke the louvers of the window. The boy climbed a stool and said from inside, ‘my father has killed my mother and taken her away.’”

She said she reported the case at the Oworonshoki Police Station, where she was told that the suspect had already reported that his wife committed suicide by taking local insecticide, Sniper.

The 32-year-old banker had already deposited the body of his wife in the Gbagada General Hospital mortuary and had allegedly gone to obtain court documents to enable him bury her and cover up his devilish act.

But he was forced to return to the police station for a certain document, which led to his arrest based on his mother-in-law's complaint.

More than 30 migrants died after being attacked by sharks while attempting to cross from Africa to Italy, Libya's navy has said.

Some 18 women and three children were among the dead, and more than 40 are still missing after two boats attempting to cross into Europe via Libya sank.

When Libyan coastguard boats arrived at the scene, they spotted large blue sharks swimming around the boat, according to Italian media.

"When we arrived in the area, off the town of Garabulli, [one] dinghy was semi-submerged and still had 44 people clinging on to it, whom we saved," Libyan patrol boat commander Nasser al-Ghammoudi told Italian newspaper Il Giorno.

"There were lots of bodies all around and we saw there were four or five sharks swimming among them, large blue sharks, a very aggressive species.

"When we brought the bodies on board we noticed that some of them had been bitten, so it's possible that among the missing some may have been eaten."

The coastguard conducted two rescue operations off the city of Garabulli, 40 miles east of Tripoli, Libya’s navy said.

The Libyan navy said that they managed to rescue 60 people from one of the boats and 140 from the second. Migrants from Somalia, Ghana, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Pakistan were among those that were rescued.

Italy's coastguard, which coordinates the rescue effort in international waters, reported that a total of 1,500 people had been rescued from the oceans in the two days before the 31 migrants died.

The new Zimbabwean government has officially declared former President Robert Mugabe’s birthday, February 21, a public holiday.

Mr. Robert Mugabe resigned last week after military and public pressure, ending his 37 year stay in power.

Calls for Mr. Mugabe's birthday to be made a national holiday came after the government adopted the decision in August following intense lobbying by the ruling Zanu-PF Youth League.

The party youths pushed for the birthday to be declared a holiday in recognition of Mugabe’s efforts in empowering the youths.

Surgeons were stunned to find 263 coins and 100 nails sitting in the stomach of a man with suspected food poisoning.

Maksud Khan, 35, was rushed into surgery at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, with severe abdominal pains, leading doctors to suspect he was suffering from food poisoning.

An endoscopy was performed to investigate the cause, but they were stunned to find hundreds of coins, 1.5kg of nails, dozens of shaving blades, shards of glass, stones, and a 6-inch piece of rusted iron shackle.

Dr Priyank Sharma, who led the surgical team, said: "The patient
was complaining of stomach pain, so we thought of getting an endoscopy done.

"We were shocked to discover coins, nails and nut-bolts in his stomach. It's the first time we've come across such a case in our career.

"This man looks mentally unstable as no sane person would do something like this."

Doctors said Mr Khan worked as a driver and would often swallow coins given to him by customers.

Amazingly, the coins and nails never caused any pain or problem initially.

"The operation was done in the nick of the time as some of the nails lodged had pierced his stomach, caused bleeding and resulting in loss of haemoglobin," said another doctor who operated on Khan.

Khan is now out of danger and has vowed not to ingest any of the objects again.

The 12-year-old helpless girl is currently in the hospital, suffering from the injuries she sustained from a hot knife which was used on her by her cousin, Bose Ola, on Saturday.

According to LIB, on the day of the incident, Bose had accused Muyiba of stealing 'N50'.

The helpless 12-year-old girl denied the allegation but later confessed she took the money to buy biscuit and water because she was starving.

The 12-year-old who was only identified as Muyiba, was brought to Lagos to reside with Bose, her second cousin so she can further her education.

Muyiba who spoke through an interpreter from her sick-bed said:

“I saw N50 in the sitting room and I took it, not knowing that it belonged to Aunty Bose.

"Later in the day, when she asked about the N50, I denied seeing it, but when she said she was going to punish me, I told her the truth and apologised that it won’t happen again.

"I thought that the matter was over because she had accepted my apology. But she asked me to pull off my dress including my panties. I obeyed. She ordered me to lie on the chair. She brought out a cane, belt and stick for turning garri.

The helpless 12-year-old fainted in the course of the torture and was rushed to the hospital where doctors revived her.

The inhuman treatment was reported to the police by neighbours who witnessed all that happened.

The police wanted to handle the matter with levity, but for the intervention of the Crime Victims Foundation of Nigeria (CRIVON), Gbagada, Lagos, which led to the arrest of Bose and her subsequent arraignment at the Ejigbo Magistrate Court on one count charge of child abuse.

Argentine football legend, Diego Maradona, is suing his ex-wife Claudia Villafane, and his two daughters, Gianinna and Dalma, alleging that they stole from him.

The Argentine World Cup winner accused his two daughters of stealing £3.4million from him and has called for one of them to be arrested.

The former Barcelona player also accused his family of transferring the stolen money to a bank account in Uruguay and also using the cash to buy property in the US.

His 28-year-old lawyer claims that Giannina was in Uruguay for a 'few hours' in August, according to Spanish sports news outlet Marca.

The lawyer said: "I say to you that she has an account in Uruguay, her child takes the money and puts it into another.

"If that is the case, if there is money there like we think, then there is no option other than to be put in custody."

Giannina responded to his statement on Twitter, saying: “They know where I live and they can come when they want.

"Thanks for all the warm messages. I am fine with myself inside, I have forgiven worse from him and I will do the same now."
