The U.S. Box Office top ten 10. The Roommate. At number 8 last week, it is the latest film to be turning the doorknob. 9. Drive Angry. A new film last week is having an awful outing at number 9 this week. It's about . . . . . oh never mind. It has Nicolas Cage in it. I noticed this guy produces almost all of the films he acts in nowadays. I'll check this one out. 8. Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son. Number 8. Mtschew. 7. The King's Speech is keeping its spot at number 7. Surely the Oscar ceremony had something to do with that. 6. Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Also keeping its spot at number 6. Wonder why though. 5. I am Number Four is at number 5 this week. Closer to home, a la its title, than last week's second spot. At this rate, it'll be a doorknober next week. 4. Just Go With It is also keeping its fourth position from last week. This week's top ten sure is funny. 3. Unknown is dropped two places from top spot last week and is at number 3. 2. Hall Pass is making its debut at second spot. A Farrelly brothers film. I've been wondering when these dudes would come outta hibernation. And look, they gave Christina Applegate and Alyssa Milano work. The film's about two guys who are given temporary freedom from marital obligations (or maybe even the status). It already sounds funny. 1. An unusual thing happened this week and it's an upward movement and not just to anywhere but to top spot and by a film I'm already not a fan of without even watching it. Gnomeo and Juliet makes it to number one. A scary thing indeedy It's a wrap. UK next |
Ogaga recently caught my attention with his reviews on his thread. Kaether caught my attention first time on this thread. Nice. I thought The King's Speech was like a kick in the nuts to Hollywood. Basically telling them 'you got the technicalities but we've got all the talent'. I believe The King's Speech was not Hollywood but I'm not sure, I've not checked. Colin Firth, amazing as he was, wasn't the only reason why the film was sublime. Geoffrey and Helena were sublime. Many times two outta this world performances are all that's necessary to earn Best Film. If Mellisa didn't choose The Fighter to deliver the performance of a lifetime, I'd have felt so pained for Helena. The film's directing was straight forward and sequential. Easy to follow, no jolts, a little anxiety and an instant relation to the stammering prince/king made the audience a part of the journey. Almost everything was perfect with the film except what I consider to be a casting blunder in the form of Guy Pearce. Luckily his role was fringe. I rate it 90%. Truly deserving. |
I've not even dropped my favourite trilogies. The only real contenders, to me, are: LOTR and The Godfather. The first part of Matrix can make you forgive any travesty. |
Is that nuclearboy I see? I think I am a new 2012 believer |
Who did someone sleep with to make this topic sticky? I'm accustomed to ignoring the first five topics. Talk about fresh air. Chris Nolan, as much as I love the sumbitch, didn't deserve Best Director this year jare. |
Iiceland |
It seems this year's Oscars was not as predictable as everyone thought. That's the main positive. The buffoons that aren't happy cuz they didn't win should be happy they got nominated at all. But the main awards were on point. |
Kadman. You may need to visit Madame Tussaud's for a wax replica of your beloved o. Wed the mannequin. This is serious love. |
Oh? I didn't know that. That suddenly makes it interesting. I'm now fully interested. |
I think there's already a rule about what constitutes a quorum and I think it's three or five. Our trouble is not making rules, we make a bunch, but following them. |
There's gonna be another X-Men. I'm not excited about it though |
I'd forgotten I was supposed to review. I'm glad Semid reviewed first. Technically, there's not much to this film. But it is extremely hard to desensitize oneself from material one is so familiar with. That's why it's hard for some people to enjoy old movies. They can't ignore all the stuff they already know. I watched this film like I didn't know nada about facebook. You can't fault it for rehashing stuff you already know anymore than you can fault Schindler's list for being historically accurate. That said, I found the film very good. I didn't know you could spin such a bio to interest me at all but it did. Andrew Garfield's performance was stellar and I'm like a big fan. I'm excited about his career. Jesse is his usual do-everything-right self. Cut a long story short, I liked the movie. 75%. |
We never said the dice was his totem na. We all agree it was the spinning top. Technically, the spinning top was originally his wife's totem which she locked in a cupboard to intentionally jeopardize her ability to distinguish fantasy from reality. Her husband found it and adopted it as his own later, I think. |
I just realised how confusing the above must be. I watched the movie: Saw, part 5. |
Saw V. Gives new meaning to being in another person's shoes. |
C'mon. Your contributions are welcome. Here and especially there. |
Yes, yes, yes. No, no, no I'm not having a heavenly feeling. FYI I actually typed heavenly feeling. Yeah, you're right about the movie and what the character sets out to do. You're not familiar with Memento cuz you've not seen it? If that's the case, I envy you. I'd love to relive the experience. If you haven't download and watch it. It's not complicated because it's not open to multiple interpretations like the staple here. Only the mode of the storytelling is complicated. Anyways, waiting for ze green light. |
Now, that's right up there with the seven wonders of the world |
I saw Memento again recently so I can take that one apart limb after limb. Fight Club has been a while. The following can be safely assumed: Norton is real. Brad is unreal. Every other person (and their actions) may or may not be real. It's been a while I saw it last, so I'm gonna be rusty. I think the whole film is the accelerating descent of a man from eccentricity to full fledged psychosis. Norton's character indeed had MPD and he definitely hallucinates almost all the time. He occasionally is confronted with a paradox and he regains a brief semblance of sanity before going back down under. His pulling the trigger but not dying in the end is psycho-banishment of Brad's character. What I'm not sure of at the moment is if there really is a Fight Club or it's all in his head. Cuz there's a fail safe mechanism of never talking about Fight Club. Anyways, Brad's character is what Norton's character's psyche thinks he ought to be. The psyche only went and externalized it and brought hell upon our man. I can't remember but I think there was some drug abuse? Psychedelic drugs like LSD perhaps? |
I didn't know you watched oldies. I'll add some to the list on the conundrum thread |
Actually it's not funny o. It makes me wanna cry. I've not studied the Academy awards nominees. Over the years, I've come to respect Golden Globes more. It's cool they come before the oscars too. |
. . . . has come to life. I'll review later. |
Lol, lawyerchap. So Alice in Wonderland wasn't even nominated for best makeup? Dang. The Oscars is a stupid thing sometimes. Unpredictable other times. |
We can do all these films one after the other. It's not like they have to be mutually exclusive. I even thought we were taking turns. Whose turn is it? |
Lol. You're alright Emmz |
They'll soon be awarding degrees on the study of Inception. Besides it's only his totem that was always being referred to, never others. Anyways, case closed. We all agree that everything centres around the totem(s). I've seen 12 Monkeys but so so long ago I don't remember much of it. Let's do Fight Club. |
Yeah, we had no totem and even if we did, it could be fake like our friend's. I was even thinking, when Ellen Page was being inducted, what if you get tricked to find a totem while in a dream's dream thinking you were only in a dream. Evil I tells ya. The film is awesome like that. Let's do one of yours next. |
I don't even know who that is |
Yeah, I agree with you. His totem was spinning for way too long for it too be natural. What I don't get is what's the point if everything is a dream? It leaves a lot to the viewer's interpretation. |
I agree with everything till best make-up, best score and best song which I think will be Alice in Wonderland, Inception and Tangled respectively. I dunno anything about the categories after that. |
If una wan review Tom and Jerry, review it. Na us go review am for una? Shior |
Let's review Scarface |
