The Manchurian Candidate. Awesome film. It wasn't confusing to me but the aim of the thread is to explain movies to those that are confused and I can certainl understand how this film can do that. When we run out of disc commando lating movies we'll just start discussing them.

Burn After Reading was top notch black comedy. Brad Pitt's demise has got to be one of the most hilarious I've ever seen. John Malkovich spent the whole film with his left mind crowded like Sisi. George Clooney should just lose the 'C' in his last name and make it official. The film wasn't confusing, Obinna. It was just a disco copulating abi what's that word you like?

I've not seen Fargo. It's another Coen stint, innit? The one that shot them to fame I believe. I may have seen it but maybe I was too little to remember.

The Great Debaters. I'd not seen the movie and I was glad I did. I even managed to enjoy it even though I was depressed as hell today. Too many cool quotes you just decide not to take note anymore

Forgot to respond to your questions, Sisi. Yes, that homeless dude was just crazy talking crazy talk. Unfortunately it fit into the misconception that the 12 monkeys were responsible for the mutated virus. Cole swallowed all that balderdash up cuz he was in a state of balderdash gobbling. He even removed his tooth later cuz of the bum's balderdash. Also the homeless dude was calling Cole Bob in continuation of his rhetorics "no siree bob".

katherine didn't really remember Cole. It was of those queer feelings or romantic bull like Savage garden saying he loved you before he met you.

I checked that scene where Katherine was caressing Cole's head and you're totally right! Man hands. Construction worker man hands. I half expected fangs to grow out and rip open Cole's carotid.

We'll need an entirely different thread to discuss that. Fighting temptation. . . . . . Nah

Wait, lemme handle this.
*rolls sleeves*

Are you saying, her essays are not comprehensible? Hmmm?
TV/Movies › Re: Movie Conundrums. by vescucci(op): 5:03pm On Mar 17, 2011
Don't mind Obinna o. I love your 'long essays'

The loop is a loop. It's not meant to be broken. It's gonna be eternal. At least if we're going with the supposed inevitability of events.

I think the toothless guy was just nuts, along with many of those apocalyptic dudes. But I'm not sure. I didn't pay him much mind. I'll check. But if he was as you say, or think, James Cole woulda atleast recognised him and likely been glad to see him.

I do not recall that scene too, where Katherine made that remark. Perhaps it was tongue in cheek? I'll check.

I think the virus was not fully deployed at the airport and if it was the boy left with his parent. But it's a valid point, Sisi. It's hard to explain away.

He didn't escape. He went forward in time. I think that happens by him just disappearing. That was how he escaped the cell at the mad house.

The question I expected though is why that dude (and he seems to be in cahoots with only himself) wants to wipe off humanity. He had this silent crazy look in his eyes and mannerisms. He thought the problem with the world is humans. His last conversation with the woman in 'insurance' was subtle but showed he had a plan for us humans. I dunno if the dudes were successful. I don't even get how we built a time machine with the constraints and inconvenience of being underground. I'm ross, Sisi. Couldn't watch Donie Darko.

I can't escape rehashing what's been said already. But I can sum it up this way: If RED didn't have the actors it had (about seven of them!) it'd have been a very stupid film indeed. But it turned out very very entertaining for me just because those phenomenal actors - though were just having fun playing with big guns and not really putting that much soul into it - really made the difference. Bruce's love interest was so touching and free and lovable and adorable. The fresh and ambitious CIA agent reminded me of how I rued his death in Bourne Supremacy. He's so intense. That scene where Bruce stepped out of a spinning car like he was stepping into an elevator was the highlight of the special effects. Ingenious but physically impossible. Red is the most enjoyable stupid film ever. One can only wish such an ensemble will sprout again. I think I heard something about a sequel though. I rate it 80%. Mostly for enjoyability.
TV/Movies › Re: Movie Conundrums. by vescucci(op): 3:19pm On Mar 16, 2011
Yeah. And there's already The Adjustment Bureau out.

I finished 12 Monkeys. I'll do this Memento style.

Fact: James Cole died at the airport and so will 5billion more people.
Fact: The 12 monkey bozos are only responsible for fauna jailbreaks.

Theory: The film proposes that time travel does not alter the course of events and all things present, future and past have already happened. In a way, this is the only way of explaining time travel with fewer paradoxes (the only one really being the time traveller's occupation of the same time as his other self).
Theory: 5 billion people are still gonna die even though the psychiatrist is forewarned.
Theory: Young James Cole will grow up to do exactly the same things he did in a never ending loop.

Problem: why don't they travel to the future to see what humanity have come up with and voila problem solved.

On a side note, Brad Pitt was really insane, man. Dayum

Hmmmn, and here was I thinking the problem was that your tailor made suit had one sleeve longer than the other by a millimeter. Thank God you're safe now. Not in time for a review it seems. They wrapped the review up with the speed of Guy Fawkes' 'trial'.

The Fighter. The fact that three people's performances were worthy of Oscar nominations is testament to the acting prowess on display. Personally, I've always felt Christian Bale had that extra something but he's not as shrewd as say Depp in choosing roles that really brings him out. He simply lost himself in the role of Dicky. Not to get all technical, the film did not really centre around one figure but Dicky seemed the main character and everybody else were sorta enabling him. The story of the film is not bad but it was similar to one yeye WWE film I mistakenly watched. Legendary it's called. Anyways, there're little tricks left that you can perform in the ring to wow an audience so the makers of the film were smart not to dwell on the boxing too much but on the boxers and their lives. Mark Wahlberg did pretty good in his not entirely grown up kinda way which is the way I always see him even in the film Four Brothers. Amy Adams was ok but I'm not sure about her nomination. I'm not crazy about Melissa but she did a stellar job in the film. She was more than a tad convincing. The only things the film lack to me is a memorable quote or scene. I am very sure I'll have forgotten about it by next year even with its success. I won't be telling my children about it. I rate it 75%

I'm gonna download a few of the crazy movies. I'll download Donie Brasco er Darko cuz Sisi went to all that trouble and for her, my gentleman side comes on. Primer and Mulholand Drive too. 12 monkeys surely. We'll do that soon.

JK. Earthquakes. Tsunamis. Middle eastern and African uprisings. Two dudes like us gossiping. Signs of the end. I'm curious though. I'll be on in 80mins. Ok?

Natalie was just an opportunist to drag the story. Imagine if there were several Natalies. Na another thing we go dey talk. The only other opportunist was the motel keeper who was not even all that greedy come to think of it.
TV/Movies › Re: Movie Conundrums. by vescucci(op): 3:09pm On Mar 11, 2011
The ending/beginning where he killed Teddy. I think he wanted the opposite. He wanted to stop chasing. He framed Teddy against himself so that he could get solace from killing Teddy who he'd later erroneously think was his wife's killer. He figured Teddy had it coming cuz he made him kill that gangster, from whom he got the fancy car, plenty money and stupid suit.

TV/Movies › Re: Movie Conundrums. by vescucci(op): 1:40pm On Mar 11, 2011
Lol, you two.

JK. The remember Sammy Jenkins bit might be for his benefit. It may be for him to be able to understand his condition. It is also strategically placed for him to see. Though there are many instances where he 'came to' without looking at the tattoo. It's all good jare. The film is enjoyable and that's all that matters. What's your take on the ending er beginning?
TV/Movies › Re: Movie Conundrums. by vescucci(op): 12:21pm On Mar 11, 2011
It's true Sammy didn't learn. I omitted some words in my last post. If Sammy was a true story, he can't be Lenny.

Yeah, there's no time frame apparent to us which is weird cuz it seems to be random to me like the time's traveler disappearances and not orderly like Nic Cage in Next. Do you remember one time when Dodd, I think, was chasing him and he forgot and thought he was chasing Dodd? Funniest part of the film. If you nit pick the film, you go just kill yourself. Some mistakes were made and some irreconcilable things were assumed. But it detracts little from the film as a whole. It's one of those films that you'll learn something new almost everytime you watch it again.

Occasionally for one reason or another, this place becomes nauseating. She's currently recovering from nairalanditis.
TV/Movies › Re: Movie Conundrums. by vescucci(op): 11:37am On Mar 11, 2011
It seems you really took your time. You really went under. Your problem with the movie is the same as mine. It lends credit to Sisi's theory of Sammy Jenkins' being him a la Shutter Island (which we should analyse again just for the hell of it). I think the fact that he shouldn't know he was suffering from a condition may be explained if you subscribe to Sisi's theory about who Sammy Jenkins is for that would mean he was taught about his condition till it got into his subconscious, that place beyond normal thoughts, till it became instinctive for him to know of his condition. It's like faith, you know while not knowing. Or deja vu. You can have a 2mins deja vu but never predict anything. Only afterwards do you go ooh, yeeaaah. Anyways, it's simply impossible to make a film where everything comes together where things like memory loss and time travel are involved.

Time travel is precisely why it's convoluted. That's what I was saying.
