I've outgrown this Dan Brown guy jare. He's too eager to shock and his dramatics are sometimes over the top.

Hi Dulcet. I have a feeling I have a lot to learn from you. Yeah, I kinda stopped posting here for a while cuz there's an egotistical epidemic in this section. If you don't hang out with people like JeSoul or yourself, you may lose your humility and common sense. So I'm selective now.

Hmmm. It seems you're God sent. About two years ago I finally had the courage to admit to myself the things I believed and the things I did not. Initially, I felt so liberated and I was excited. But afterwards were trying times for me. I wonder if I lost or gained in my new outlook. I don't feel that connection with God like I did before even though it was on a placebo. That's why I think religion is immaterial to one's relationship with God. But religion can also do a lot of harm. Because it is dogmatic and fatal to one's faculty of reasoning. Almost no religious argument makes any sense. Mostly there're based on a faulty premise or assumption. I totally get trying to know God on one's terms. I was conscious of this, that I might be too empirical about my spirituality. But when I see some people talking about their fantastic beliefs, I get a little pissed cuz they look down on other people's beliefs which are just as fantastic as their own and sometimes even less so. What I'm trying to say is religion, with a sincere heart, may be a good means to an end but can never be the end in itself.

Yes! That is exactly what I meant about the Orientals. I'm not the best at expression so I appreciate you getting that. The Orientals place emphasis on finding your own way. But even then, there's got to be some universal truths. There can't just be whatever each one finds because most times, they are at a conflict.

Ah. Scripture. I'm extremely wary of quoting scripture. Do you wanna take a shot at my question? The one about what the point of our salvation/optimization is.

Vieira, you son of a gun. You'd already done the hard work. Luckily there's little or nothing I can add. The Green Goblin was kinda soft core but was a good stepping stone. Willem Dafoe fit the bill perfectly though. The perfect mix of madness, mischief, genius and evil that is expected from the Goblin. I expected his son to sorta become a fixture in all the sequels as sort of a side kick. Dr. Octopus was awesome and was almost as riveting a character as Spiderman. His troubles were multi faceted and he finally won back his soul from the clutches of corruption only to give his life again. He turned out to be a villain turned hero. Sandman was all kinds of awesome and they found the perfect actor for it too. The casting was such a beautiful thing. Sam Raimi was right to try to block Venom's outing which turned to be mediocre for someone who's supposed to be Spiderman's nemesis. I dunno what's going on but are we gonna see another Spiderman? Sam Raimi I only knew as director of Xena and Hercules, two shows I enjoyed tremendously back in the day. So I didn't think he'd be this awesome. No one thought Peter Jackson would be too. I rate the first film 85%, the second 95% and the last 75%. 80% average.

Pardon ke? I've been enriched by your response and it even answered somewhat a personal question I wanted to ask a, er, friend of mine. It's too personal to ask here so I might lead you on a bit if you do not mind. Sleep well.

thehomer:
Heterosexual molestation was estimated to be at about 30 to 40% but from the research I linked above, it was about 20%. My other link there was to demonstrate that homosexuality is quite different from homosexual paedophilia.
Those are way higher than I expected. Maybe it has nothing or very little to do with homosexuality after all. There'll be a wariness in heterosexual interaction that will pale in comparison when you think of homosexual ones. So, in effect there might be as many straight sexual predators as there are gay ones.

This is the kinda thread I wanna be posting in. Hi, Dulcet. Been ages, brother.

Your anecdote or allegory is a bit confusing o. I lost comprehension of who he is. But that is irrelevant to your question and this is my answer:

I believe in God. I'd have added absolutely before but let's say the fact that I 'believe' in Him diminishes that for I don't believe in the sun or in osmosis. I know.

I do not think all religions lead to the same place. No one should believe this. Also, I don't believe in religion because it infers variety. There might very well be a 'way' but it is not a religion. I don't know MANY MANY things but I know some things that I can't accept. Like hell or the trinity (which I may concede to be a manifestation but not a nature). One might practice a religion but not fall short of God's mercy or love because of one's nature and intentions. One might even be an atheist and not be cast away by God. That's why sometimes, it is mere academic pursuit to bother with some things. These are some of the things I believe in. Religions in the true sense of the word are all flawed. Judaism, Christianity and Islam most especially. The Orientals have some things purer but the problem is that they are DEFINITELY man made.

Question: Some people say we're on earth to learn lessons, to love, to this and to that. But when we're done learning, what next? What's the use?

Hi Jay

Yeah, I'm into foreign movies. Though oldies are my real passion. I've not seen The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I've not had the chance but I'm reading the first of the trilogy and I'd like to finish them before seeing adaptations. Me ya faru?

Christianity Etc › Re: Yet Another Scandal In The Catholic Church by vescucci(m): 10:45pm On Mar 22, 2011
I don't hate Catholics but they really have a problem. I think celibacy is unnatural but the problem is that sometimes, due to societal pressure, gay people think they'll find solace in the Catholic Church (and in celibacy) before primal instincts start to rage. I don't have the statistics but I can bet the percentage of heterosexual molestation is minimal. Another thing that worries me is that I'm very sure we're only learning of a few of many occurrences. A molested person is ashamed and will rarely ever make things known. And there's also the probable threat of hell, you know. Just for good measure.

Have you heard of Dark City? What some people say Matrix is a ripoff of.
TV/Movies › Re: Movie Conundrums. by vescucci(op): 11:04pm On Mar 21, 2011
I loved the runner who broke free from the Matrix through sheer will. I liked the one where there was an error in coding and some kinds were having the time of their lives defying laws though none of them thought WHY. I was indifferent about the 3D one. It was same ish we already knew. I hated that multicolored psychedelic nonsense. All in all, the stories were cool

Where do you find those smileys, Sisi? I need one for your 'faxed in' comment. If you want to redeem Keanu, check out Street Kings. Nic Cage produces the films he's in nowadays. Otherwise, he won't get roles. You should finish The Matrix, just for the hell of it. I think I remember Big Fish and ESotSM. Most of these confusing films have something to do with the mind.

Tom Cruise makes someone called Arshavin happy. Don't expect you to follow. I like him though. My Oga, Spielberg does too.
Speaking of which A. I. is a good candidate.

Obinna. You should never do an MRI because of the magnetic parts. Yeah, I've seen Animatrix thanks to iice. I bought a copy from Nu Metro. I liked some stories and was lukewarm about some but it kinda explained some things. We could talk about it too. It's certainly better than Matrix Revolutions.

Sentimental nonsense. You've totally disregarded probability laws and picked up one in a million scenarios.
TV/Movies › Re: Movie Conundrums. by vescucci(op): 9:41pm On Mar 21, 2011
Nic Cage, ewww.

Vanilla Sky was an inferior remake of Open Your Eyes, the Spanish original. I saw that one and was blown away. Penelope was in both films, funny.

Mulholland Drive has never even been in my radar. I hear of the title but it's only now that it seems to be a film one ought to see. True, Seun, we ought to talk about the Matrix. And maybe I, Robot too. Ex-Inferis and Mad_Max really killed it on my old thread. I might dig it up and post their plenty talk on here and it'll be a wrap before we even start.

Obinna, I've only seen Vanilla Sky and Donie Darko (which I can't remember any of) on your list. I'm really curious about this Primer though
