Politics › INEC May Use Body Odour For Voter Verification In Future Polls – Yakubu by vicdom(op): 9:38pm On Jan 17, 2023 |
As part of its growing desire to integrate technology into Nigeria’s electoral process, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC might in the foreseeable future adopt the use of body odour for voter verification.
Some years ago, voters were verified by simply looking at their paper cards and checking the voter register. In 2012 however, INEC introduced the Smart Card Readers SCR to verify the Permanent Voter Cards PVCs which contained the facials of voters. It was the period that INEC also used the Automated Facial Identification System AFIS to clean up the voter register.
As politicians developed ways of subverting the procedure, the electoral umpire went a step further to introduce the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System BVAS which verifies both the facials and the fingerprints. This development also entails INEC using the Automated Biometric Identification System ABIS.
However, speaking on Tuesday at the Chatham House in London, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu hailed the commission’s in-house engineers for the design of the BVAS and for always coming up with innovative ideas and designs to enhance the electoral process.
According to him, an engineer at the commission had proposed using body odour to verify voters but that he had to ask them to tarry awhile.
Yakubu said; “The clean up of the register was painstakingly conducted by the commission because of the Automated Biometric Identification System ABIS. Before now, the commission used the AFIS, the fingerprint identification system but this time around, we used the ABIS, meaning both fingerprint and facial, and that is what we are also using to accredit voters on election day.
“All these innovations were all the work of INEC’s own in-house engineers in the commission. The machines may have been fabricated outside the country but the design of the machines were done by our own engineers in-house.
“In fact, one of them said they were going to introduce a new biometric using body odour. I said, ‘please, not yet. Let’s make haste slowly’. But when he explained it to me, it sounded logical. He said, don’t laugh, chairman, because I said body odour is also biometric. He said, how does your dog recognize you? It is from your body odour and that is why if another person walks into the house it barks, when you move into the house, it wags its tail because it recognizes your body odour. I said, ‘but for elections let’s wait, not now’.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/01/inec-may-use-body-odour-for-voter-verification-in-future-polls-yakubu/

Politics › Is Peter Obi Entrance Really A Win For Tinubu? by vicdom(op): 9:05am On Jan 10, 2023 |
My opinion: I don't think so..... Why?;
I have noticed that 70 - 80% of Peter Obi's detractors both online and offline are APC and Tinubu's supporters. I ask, why so if really Obi is running to favour your candidate?? In fact, recently, it was observed that Tinubu who had earlier felt that Obi"s ambition flavours him, now resorted to attacking Obi when he discovered that peter is doing more damage to him than he's doing to Atiku. Otherwise, why attack and even slander someone constantly, to the extent of wanting him back out if he's actually a favour to your candidate? They do not even attack Atiku whom they perceive that is of more threat to Tinubu, rather they go rampage on Peter Obi everytime.
Just like Prof Soludo had earlier claimed, Tinubu and his supporters should be sponsoring Peter Obi campaign by now since they would benefit from his ambition, rather than trying to smear and discredit him.
How does Peter pose a big threat to Tinubu?;
NO president has ever won an election in Nigeria without winning his region by wide margin. From Obasanjo to Yaradua to Jonathan to Buhari, they all won their respective regions with large margin. Now with Obi in the race, Tinubu can never win southern Nigeria. Now that we have kwankwaso and Atiku in the north, it will require a miracle for Tinubu to win in northern Nigeria. I think that's what Tinubu later realized. "awa south lo kan" mantra favours obi more than Tinubu. However, if obi was not in the race, I think there would still be sympathy votes to Tinubu and might end up winning the South. Look carefully, if you doubt me, Atiku and PDP don't bother much about Obi as much as Tinubu and APC are their losing sleep on Obi. |

Politics › ADC Candidate, Ikhayere Uses Obi’s Pictures To Solicit Votes In Abuja by vicdom(op): 11:28am On Jan 09, 2023 |
Juliet Ikhayere, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) house of representatives candidate in Abuja, has shared pictures of her together with Peter Obi, standard bearer of the Labour Party (LP), to solicit votes.
The ADC candidate who is running for the AMAC and Bwari federal constituencies shared the pictures on her official Twitter handle on Monday.
She called on her supporters who intend to mount billboards in support to use the pictures she shared alongside the LP candidate.
“If God lays in your kind heart to mount billboards on my behalf in the AMAC and Bwari Area Council, please here are pictures. No help is small. Tell 10 to tell 10 people to vote me. I simply need an average of 200 votes in 1500 polling units and I will win on a landslide,” Ikhayere wrote.
She had previously declared support for the Labour Party presidential candidate.
Obi is one of the leading candidates for the coming presidential election alongside Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former Anambra governor enjoys huge popularity on social media courtesy of a massive support base known as the ‘Obidients’.
The 2023 elections are less than eight weeks away. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the presidential and national assembly elections will hold on February 25, 2023.
The governorship and state house of assembly polls will take place on March 11, 2023. https://www.thecable.ng/extra-adc-candidate-uses-obis-pictures-to-solicit-votes-in-abuja/amp

Politics › 'I Never Held Meetings With PDP’s G-5 Govs In London' - Tinubu Declares by vicdom(op): 5:17pm On Dec 31, 2022 |
Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has denied reports that he held a secret meeting with five estranged governors of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP in London.
Tinubu in a statement by his Media Office signed by Tunde Rahman said it has become a routine for him to spend sometime in London to rest before going to Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj.
“As usual with him when a year is coming to an end to take time off his busy schedules, take a little rest and proceed to Saudi Arabia to observe Umrah(Lesser Hajj), HE Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was in London during the week en route Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
“While in the United Kingdom, Asiwaju Tinubu noted some articles in some national newspapers in Nigeria, alleging a secret meeting was held in London between him and the G-5 governors who are members of Peoples Democratic Party.
“These reports, to say the least, are not only in bad faith but also evil intentioned. They were published to advance the political interests of the writers and their sponsors”, the statement noted.
Tinubu sadi he is neither bothered by these articles nor by their sponsors who are well known, adding that he is resolutely focused on his campaign objectives which are geared towards achieving victory in the upcoming presidential election in order to deliver APC’s Action Plan aimed at giving a Renewed Hope to all Nigerians.
The statement adds; “We must point out that the APC candidate is entitled to meeting any political actor or stakeholder that is important to his campaign and plans for the country and that desires to engage with him.
“The truth with respect to his present itinerary is as follows:
“HE Asíwájú Tinubu came to London on Boxing Day Monday December 26, 2022 to spend a few days preparatory to his trip to Saudi Arabia.
“After spending some time in London, he has now proceeded to Mecca where he is at present observing Umrah.
“He is scheduled to return to the country within the next two days to continue with the campaign.
“We would like to use this opportunity to advise those writing unsubstantiated articles and peddling rumours on him to desist forthwith”. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/12/i-never-held-meetings-with-pdps-g-5-govs-in-london-tinubu-declares/

Politics › 2023: G-5 Has Not Reached Deal With Anyone, Says Wike by vicdom(op): 6:33pm On Dec 30, 2022 |
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State says himself and his allies better known as the G5 have not struck a deal with any presidential candidate ahead of next year’s election.
The G5, which includes Wike, Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) have been at loggerheads with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in the wake of the party’s presidential primary.
Wike, who lost to Atiku, believes the process was unfair and the five governors maintain that the PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu, a northerner, must resign. Since the crisis, there have been speculations that the group has backed a candidate for the presidential election.
But the former Minister of State for Education has waved off the reports, describing them as untrue.
“[They said] Wike had an interview with BBC and he said we have a deal with so and so. Meanwhile, no video, no audio. And some of you waste your time listening to such things,” he said on Friday during the flag-off of the construction of Eneka-Igbo Etche Road.
“Don’t you know that when I want to do something, I will do it? Don’t you know? Do you need to speculate? You don’t need to speculate. They said there is trouble but there is no trouble. What we have is an introduction to the trouble that is going to come!”
“So, my dear people, I just want to tell you that whatever decision I will take, I will let you know. I cannot take any decision without taking advice from you,” the governor added, urging detractors to leave members of the G5.
“I just want to enjoy myself and my family,” Wike said, maintaining that he is not contesting an election next year and thus should not be the subject of speculations.
He also accused Atiku of holding secret meetings with governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and failing to keep to his promise of not having the PDP presidential candidate and the party’s chairman from the same region (North). https://www.channelstv.com/2022/12/30/2023-g5-has-not-reached-deal-with-anyone-says-wike/

Atiku and Baba Sope will not carry SE that is fact but know this early PO will not win the general election. Shut up! I would rather obi gain in the overall computation than lose in the southeast region. Southeast votes alone can never give him victory. The overall gains in the whole region matters, not sectional. He gained in SW, NC, NW, NE, while maintained in SS, but lost some in SE. In the overall, do you actually think Obi gained or lost?? |
