They are not confused. They have a clear cut agenda.

1. Reduce Igbo influence in the deep south by getting Igbo groups there to either denounce their Igbo identity or declare their independence from the larger Igbo group or even join their ever growing groups of non Ijaw speaking but politicised Ijaw groups like Degema and Ogbia.

2. Join all those groups in Niger delta, confuse them into thinking they( Ijaw) are fighting for the benefit of all in the group.

3. Use the population of the New Niger delta as a bargaining chip to promote Ijaw agenda, by making Ijaw agenda appear like a Niger deltan agenda. We saw this play out in the emergence of relatively unknown GEJ over attah, Duke and Odili in the race to Yaradua VP, where Edwin Clark the Ijaw leader, insisted that Odili cannot represent Niger delta( Ijaw).

And we saw it in the Amnesty program beneficiaries.


To achieve aim 1, Ijaws have been on perpetual propaganda of painting Igbos as domineering, land grabbers, greedy and unreasonable before our Igboid brothers.
So much that those ethnicities have come to associate Ndiigbo with all those lies.

Its time we put the Ijaw dealings and schemes in Niger delta under great public scrutiny.

The circumstances behind my joining a delegation for the burial of His Royal Majesty, Sunday Nnanta Woluchem, the Epara Rebisi XI of Port Harcourt on Saturday, April 21, 2012 is encapsulated in the above quote taken from his burial programme.
As the author of his yet to be published biography, former Chief of General Staff, retired Commodore Okoh Ebitu Ukiwe, asked me to join his delegation to bury a royal father who, along with Ukiwe and others, played leading roles in the creation of today’s Rivers and Bayelsa states between 1993 and 1996.

However, the Ijaws felt if such a state was created they would become estranged in a city they have been part and parcel of since it was founded by the colonialists. In fact, they had even started portraying Port Harcourt as the capital of a future Ijaw state. Thus was born a great rivalry between the Ijaw-speaking and Igbo-speaking groups for the control of Rivers and between what was termed the “Okrika-Ijaw” and “Ikwerre-Igbo” over the “ownership” of Port Harcourt. The gruesome murder of Dr Obi Wali, the leader of the Ikwerre political front by yet-to-be ascertained assassins in 1992, owed to this tussle, which often led to street battles between Okrikans and Ikwerres.
Meanwhile, the late father of Nigeria’s nationalism, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, had discussed the best strategies for reducing the animosity between the Igbos and their Minority neighbours as well as dousing the ethnic tension between Ikwerres and their riverine co-indigenes of Rivers State. It was agreed that as the touted largest Minority group, the Ijaw needed a state of their own. But with their emotional attachment to Port Harcourt, how would Rivers State be split without creating a permanent ethnic war front in Nigeria’s premier oil city?
With the Ijaw groups obviously being favoured by the Northern-led Federal Government, Eze Woluchem, a lawyer who was installed paramount ruler of Port Harcourt in 1977 turned to Dr Azikiwe, appealing for him to support the aspirations of his Igbo kinsmen in the struggle. An ageing “Zik” referred the Eze’s delegation to Commodore Ukiwe, who had become Zik’s close political confidant. The Eze’s delegation of four, which included the late Chief Okogbule Wonodi and Chief Andrew Uchendu, met with Ukiwe in his office in Victoria Island.
Their proposal was that Port Harcourt State should only be for Igbo-speaking Rivers people, while the Ijaw-speaking part would be named New Rivers State. On the other hand, the Kalabaris did not want to be parted with Rivers State, neither did the Okrikas, and Ukiwe advised that it would be “unstrategic” to cut out Bonny, Opobo, Kalabari and Okrika, apart from the fact that the Head of State, General Abacha, who was pro-Ijaw, might be pushed not to create any new state at all.
Between Ukiwe and the Ikwerre delegation, and taking into account the expressed needs of others, the maps of the present Rivers State and Bayelsa State were drawn and presented to Abacha, who found it acceptab [/b]

We broke Ijaws hand to separate them from our brothers who naively and willingly played into Ijaw hands by getting trapped in the old Rivers state. We had to force Ijaws into Bayelsa and turn them to minorities in Rivers to allow the Igboids take control of the New state.

A socio-political group in the South-South, Ekpeye Youth Congress (EYC), has dismissed claims in some quarters that the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan empowered the people of the region.

Ndiigbo will always look out for the interest of all Igbo speaking people.

And we will always oppose this new Ijaw agenda as long as they keep including Igbo speaking groups like Ogba, Anioma, Ikwerre, Ekpeye in it.

If Ijaws must have a Niger delta, then they must learn to exclude Igbo speaking groups from it, they( Ijaws) must look towards the Edoids and Ibibios.

A socio-political group in the South-South, Ekpeye Youth Congress (EYC), has dismissed claims in some quarters that the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan empowered the people of the region.

The group made this known in a statement jointly signed by its president-general and acting secretary, Emenike Uriah Musa and Anthony Onyemachi. The group dismissed the purported assertion made by Senator Shehu Sani, that the people of the Niger Delta were the major beneficiaries of Jonathan’s administration.

According to Daily Trust the group said that the Ijaws were the main beneficiaries of the appointments and programmes carried out throughout the period Jonathan served as president.

The group said: “The attention of the Ekpeye Youth Congress (EYC) World-Wide has been drawn to the vituperations of one Mallam Shehu Sani, Senator Representing Kaduna North Senatorial District in the print media, to the effect that the people of Niger Delta are the only ones who benefited in political appointments and infrastructural development in the former President Goodluck Jonathan Administration, and that the North and South West did not benefit.”

The group added that apart from the Ijaws, other major ethnic groups like the Urhobos, Ibibios, Anangs, Ogonis, Efiks, Ikwerres, Etches, Ekpeyes, Ndokwas,Ogojas, Ogbas as well as Binis, while others were left out.

“The beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme were 90% of Ijaw extraction,” the group said.

The Ijaws hide behind the tag Niger delta to push their ethnic and tribal agenda.
Ijaws so far have been the direct beneficiaries of Niger delta struggle. Edwin Clark made it clear to Peter Odili, a Niger deltan, that he, Peter Odili as an Igboid man from Rivers state cannot benefit from the Niger delta oil when Odili was about to be picked as the VP to Yaradua, as long as Edwin Clark was concerned, only the Ijaws should benefit from Niger delta struggle, that was how GEJ emerged the VP and later the President.
So the Ijaw through the Ogbia man GEJ reaped the reward of the struggle of the entire Niger delta people.


The Amnesty program made for the Niger deltans were all cornered by Ijaws, with Ijaw leaders like Dokubo and Tonpolo getting the lion share, leaving the rest of the groups in Niger delta in the lurch.

Ijaws won't allow anything happen in Niger delta without Ijaws being direct beneficiaries of such, they would rather tear the project down than have other groups benefit from it, without Ijaws having a share in it.

Niger delta remains an Ijaw propaganda, and Ndiigbo will never allow any Igbo speaking group be dragged into it.
Already the Ekpeyes are complaining about the Ijaws agenda in Niger delta.
