It's not quite about how much you need, it's about meeting the financial requirements as I explained in the opening post.
And yes, a first timer can get a six months visa

sundyke107: I have only travelled to Dubai in 2011. Please do you think I have a chance considering my account history as stated earlier?

how much do you think would be your closing bank account balance as at the time you intend applying?

do you have previous travel history?

i think you are better off applying for the france visa first before applying for that of UK
You're right, France' visa is arguably more difficult to get being that it's not a popular destination by Nigerians therefore, France embassy understands that you must have a very serious reason to want to travel to France

sundyke107: Please I forget to add that as per lending cash out to people, I dont have documents (receipts) to back it up. I only collect postdated cheques(collateral) from my clients which i hand over to them upon liquidation appropriate liquidation of the loan. Note the loan is usually for period of 1-2months.
If only you knew that this type of loan or "contribution" is criminal in Europe, you wouldn't have even been thinking of making mention of it

I m a police officer and I don't want my office to know about my travel because I only on annual leave of 21 working days. and I want to travel to Grenada for two weeks, will the embassy contact my office?
This would be considered as fraud or deception, and if it's the US, you'd be on the verge of getting yourself a life ban

jascopassion: Hello moderator, please u will needs to bear with me. Despite the fact that am a graduate and have being following and reading this thread for long. There are still some things which I don't understand.
Jst finished my service year with less than 200K in my account. Can I stl go ahead and apply for UK visa?
Do I necessarily needs a letter of invitation, or how do I book for hotel ?
What other advice can u give me pls. I needd to get the visa soon. Lastly, do I pay for getting VISA ?
Thanks a lot. Jst that am a village boy jst coming to city
What category of visa will you be applying for? Well, whatever category it may be N200k is taking you no where, you will even loss a vast amount of the money in the process.
You would need either or both the invitation letter or/and hotel accommodation.
My advice is, do not try it at this stage
TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by Vicjustice: 11:16am On Oct 09, 2013
kclexa: @Vicjustice; I don't think you got my advice right.
My advice was from experience because I attended a UK university and know what is required. Please read my post properly before concluding.

You are always adviced not to make any hotel of flight bookings before receiving your visa except instructed by the visa officer to do so. But you must show sufficient funds to cover all these necessities. The graduation letter from the university already shows he/she is not just visiting on holiday. Where you stay after arriving in the UK is totally left to you as long as you had satisfied the VO that you won't be a liability.

By the way staying with a female friend or sister is not a taboo, just that privacy is highly respected.
I'm sorry if i misunderstood you.
And you're right, it's not a taboo to squat with one's sister/brother in one room, but to apply for a visa with such accommodation arrangement will result in refusal

funkybaby: grin grin grin

I am having my teeth extracted this afternoon sad , so I thought I freestyle on different threads and ease my nervousness only to stumble on some questions left unanswered because they were asked by 'a friend' for 'a friend'. to make it worse, a particular person here made it the norm to admonish, scold and ignore posters asking these 'friend's friends' questions. i wonder why you let him get away with it and not speak to him about it.

we must be able to help one another. . . . whether or not the question/issue is about a friend, brother, aunty, shagpartner cool or whoever.

that said, how borri? did you miss me wink nice to see you too smiley

justwise: hmmm shey you don come with your wahala? grin grin actually...i don't like it when people do this...i'm asking for my friend and further down the line the 'friend' turns out to be the poster and the poster seems to know far too much about that 'friend'.

Why people do that is something i can't get my head around.
I'm glad that you feel me: indeed, there have been numerous instances when I felt conned by such people.
You see, this is a forum where people are free to be anonymous, so I don't see any meaningful reason for pretending to be someone else: it is regrettable enough that no one here uses his or her true names, and despite this, some people would still narrate their own stories in proxy.
Why would anybody seek genuine answer to a question that is asked in deception? To me, the thought of corresponding with an ingenuine someone is something absurd

I have a friend in Grenada who want me to come spend a holiday in her country and she sent me an invitation sign by the immigration and the immigration also sent me a letter that is fine by them that I should come to their country but the problem now is that I.will need a UK airside transit visa pls what re my chances of getting the UK transit visa. Grenada is a visa free for Nigerian nationals pls good people of nigeria help me out with good information thank you
Well, applying for a UK transit visa using a visa-free country as final destination is an extremely difficult thing to do, it is even more difficult than applying for a regular UK visa.

TravelRe: Main Reasons Many Are Refused Visas by Vicjustice(op):
radical05: Hello Vicjustice, I have a huge headache regards this issue and I would be glad if you can help out.
Please if a friend earns 250,000 monthly but they don't pay into an account but for the sake of Canada visa application has informed the company to be depositing into his savings account which would be back up with pay slips for the 6 months.
THE PROBLEMS.....earning 250,000 monthly is 1.5m account balance for 6 months(oct 2013-march 2014) and with an opening account balance of 540,000 in sept 2013 would make it roughly 2m at the end of march 2014. (Now the tuition, living expenses etc amounts to 20,000CAD lets say roughly 3.2m but he wants to have about 4m or more as extra) and he intends to apply against sept 2014. He is expecting a sum of 1.4m by Dec 2013 from his car sales(pls note that the car was bought in his name by his sister's husband that lives in US that has a car lot in Nigeria though he(the friend in question) owns the money that was used to get the car) so when the car is being sold he would have 1.4m and plus extra tips from friends and families making it about 2m or more which would add up to 4m or more. Now my questions are

1) How would you advice him to spread the remaining 2m(the one gotten from the car sale plus tips from friends and families) which is different from his regular monthly income? this has been the main concern as I have read on this thread that the bank statement must show the source of income and expenditures that are verifiable. The bank statement would be able to show the monthly income of 250,000 for 6 months but adding that up wont be solely sufficient as an adequate fund so please how would you advice him to spread the remaining money that he has because he wants to avoid depositing a lump sum of money considered as money lodgement?

2) he was thinking of attaching the docs that showed the car he sold to get the 1.4m was bought in his name but unfortunately he doesn't have an evidence that the money was transferred from his account to his sister's husband in US because it was a sum of money that someone owe him(the person that owe him is in US and he was the one that transferred the money) and he decided to use that money to now invest and get a car to sell so that is why he is considering spreading the money since he cant justify how he transfer the fund to get a car to sell
2) he would have used a sponsor but he was denied the last time he applied because of sponsor not credible and he is an adult so he decided to sponsor himself this time around. The money is however available but the confusion is how to reflect the source of the remaining funds in the account which is apart from the monthly income.
Vicjustice and all other oga's on top please kindly give a sincere response/advice.
So, you're doing all these salary calculations and long analysis with passion for a "friend"?
With due respect, you seem to know so much about "a friend" than I even know my own self.
Look, it is not a problem to answer a "friend" question, but it just doesn't go well with me to think that someone is trying to get information from me by means of unecessary deception
TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by Vicjustice: 9:32am On Oct 08, 2013
target007: Yes, you can ask for your passport but you will loose your application fee (nonrefundable) because as per UKBA policy once you've asked for your passport to be returned before any visa decision they will cancel your application process and there is no refund. So i will advice, unless whatever you need your passport for outweighs the opportunity cost, in this case, your visa application fee, you may as well just wait for a UKBA decision on your visa application.
They will not necessary cancel his application, the application can still go on, they'll contact him to bring back the passport if the application is sucessful.
There are actually some instances in which an application may be cancelled due to passport withdrawal: it all depends on circumstances and the sensibility of the application

You can collect it if they don't know that you're not the real owner, otherwise, it will be impossible to collect it

1, must one be married to get a visa?

2, once denied a visa because you are not married, can a spouse/date send you an invite?

3, if you luckily found a very rich/wealthy woman abroad (online things) can she cover your trip? And what are the chances.

Please a friend seriously need answers to this question.

Yeecar: I am a federal Civill servant, I work with the federal institute of industrial research oshodi. I recently got a scholarship to come to the US for a 1 month training which will be coming up by January 2014 . I applied for a B1 visa. An invitation letter was sent to me through d email which I presented to d Consular officer. But suprisingly I was denied a visa under section 214 (B) I told her dat a leter of introduction was also given to me by my employer but she didn't
ask. Please what can be the reason for my visa denial? I was properly dressed and I was even puting on my ofice I'd card. I left the embassy shocked and disapointed. Thanks in anticipation of Your quick response as am thinking of reapplying next week.
The reason(s) for the refusal must have been explained to you even though you did not state it here. However, I suspect it has something to do with your personal circumstances.
I also think that you tried too hard to give impression to the embassy in that you were dressed wearing your work card around your neck: that alone might have been seen as an attempt to convince the visa officer of your credibility, but it might have created a negative impression
