Hello house, please I'll like to ask a question. Is it normal for one not to get the monthly updates even when your application is still in process. I applied since May and I'm still waiting but unlike previous months i didn't receive any email notification this month. Does it mean my application is close to being decided on. Thank you.
P.S I usually received my email notifications on the 10th of every month |

neverlosehope: I will like to encourage readers with my abridged testimony. Please never lose hope regarding your dream.
My profile:
In 2013 after working in different Nigerian banks spanning over 10 years, I became frustrated and need a better life for my family. At close to 40 years old, I decided to leave my banking work and pursue Masters degree abroad. Yes, you are right, if you think that I am crazy because so many people thought I was then. However, as I said, I need a better life for my family.
Previously, I had an undergraduate degree in sciences from Nigeria with second class (2:2). In 2013, I applied to 4 universities in Canada and I was rejected in all the universities because of low GPA. A Program Administrator in one of the universities told not to waste my fund applying to universities because of my low GPA but I should focus on my job. I was depressed for a while but I decided to pick myself up and move ahead.
In 2014, I took both GRE and TOEFL and applied to 5 universities in USA. Again, I got rejection letter from all 5 universities. I was depressed but I picked myself up and moved ahead the second time. I applied to another set of 4 universities in USA and to the glory of God, I got accepted into all 4 universities. Fortunately and as God will have it, I got full tuition waiver and stipends in one of the universities. In 2015, my wife and I applied for F2 and F1 visa (US study visas) which was approved together by the grace of God. Please note, this is the same guy with low GPA and 9 rejection letter.
Fast forward to 2017, toward the end of my Masters program, I applied for PhD programs in both USA and Canada. Although, I had a few rejection letters from my PhD applicants but I got admitted into 4 top universities, 2 in USA and 2 in Canada. To crown this testimony, all the universities were funded with very generous stipends which are adequate to take care on my family living expenses.
Today June 15th 2018, both my wife open work permit and my study permit were approved after 3 weeks of application (since we are applying from US).
Lesson to learnt:
1) Never lose hope. Miracles do happens. Always believe.
2) Never let your past define your future. Your past is gone and you don't have control over it again, however, your future is still ahead and you can control it. Therefore, focus on what you can control.
3) Never let anything or anyone stop you from achieving your dream. Obstacles are part of life, nobody, low or bad GPA should not stop you . When you fall, please stand up, dust yourself, reload and move forward. Quitters never win and Winners never lose.
4) Never let age put a limit on your dream. I started my masters degree at the age of 40 years and 16 years after having my BSc degree. Now, I have master degree from a reputable university and should complete my PhD degree in next few years. You can always achieve your dream at any age if you are resilient and persistent.
5) Follow your dream no matter the challenges. Redirect your steps if one is not working and keep pushing forward.
6) Above all, HOLD ON TO GOD AND KEEP BELIEVING IN HIS AMAZING POWER, GRACE AND MERCY. His is a miracle working God and He will always come through for you.
I do hope that I am able to encourage myself with my abridged testimony. Thank you for this, you just encouraged someone |

If your enrollment deadline is in September and you're going for a masters degree, I will advice you use an address in Abuja, so you can get an interview date in Abuja. From the trend going on now, it seems they are only replying people whose enrollment deadline is in October because of the rule that states your interview date must be 6-8 weeks before your enrollment deadline. |

Eldeee: A very beautiful morning to you all. Pls for those who intend to use sponsorship letter, it will be in your best interest to submit it as proof of finance while booking for interview, that's to say make sure you get it done and dusted before applying for an interview, and just as someone rightly stated here pls make sure you know every nitty gritty about the person sponsoring you, even the stuffs you feel is irrelevant.
If you submit any of the bank account opening confirmation, then be sure to fund your account according. Pls am saying this cos of any possible rejection to avoid stories that touch. They seem to frown at the unusual practice as the VO interviewing me kindly warned me against it and adviced me not to try it at all.
Danke fur ihre vestehe. Hello, what if if I book with a block account but I appear at the interview with my sponsorship letter. I'm actually using a sponsorship letter but because I've not gotten an admission, my aunt has not been able to go request for the sponsorship letter. I'm sure I will get the letter before my interview date which will likely be in August if I book before the end of the month because I'm hopeful I will get an admission by next week. I taught about this idea cos I felt the process of getting the letter will take a while, I don't want interview date to finish on my head o because of what happened last year. What do you think, please? Thank you |

Hafeez89: You mean they won't acknowledge original copy if sent to them directly, cuz I can't have access to my transcript due to the protocol in my school, any way around this?? Most schools have that same protocol. Just look for a company, it shouldn't be that hard, as little as a really small organization, that's what I did also. It's better than sending it directly because you must notarize your transcripts |

For the certification, you're to certify the photocopies of the original documents, and No it mustn't be certified at the embassy (unless otherwise stated by the school you're applying to). I think we now understand the issue. The account he used to send the money is not the same as his salary account either. So maybe I will submit both (savings accoung which he used to transfer the money to me, and salary account) so they know even though the account runs to zero, he atleast has a steady source of income. Also show evidence of the property your husband sold, the receipts and transfer of ownership to avoid issues of lump sum |

Hello house, please I'm new to the thread and been going through previous post but just need verification on some things. My aunt is in Germany, Cologne to be precise and is willing to send me a sponsorship letter but she wants me to school in either Cologne or Bonn or any other nearby city, this is actually affecting me a bit in the choice of schools because I'm kinda limited, I studied Agricultural Economics and it's difficult getting a related masters course. My question now is that can she still provide a sponsorship letter if I stay in a different city from her, is it acceptable? Also as regard certification of my documents, is it the photocopies I will certify and must i go to the Embassy to certify it or just a High court will do. Thank you |

I applied to Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Agricultural Economics, thesis based. I will probably look at other schools preferably low ranked schools, the problem is that very few schools actually offer the course but will look into all you said. Thank you very much for your response
quote author=myelims post=65335332]
What course of study. Which type of Masters? Thesis, project or coursebase.
Irrespective of your answers to the above question, with 2:1 you can definately get admission for a COURSEBASED masters. However depending on your CGPA and Course of Study, it might be very difficult to get admission for Thesis or Project based.
Most times the problem with admission is with the choice of school. You should do a background check of how competitive the department you are applying to is before you apply.
Look for a school dt match ur profile in terms of requirements. It could also be a problem with your Sop, get a professional or senior collague in your field of study to help u review.[/quote] |

I felt like I was in the Story, nice write up. Congrats once again ma'am Nogen: Air Maroc isn't that bad after all. The only complaint is the long hours one has to stay at the Casablanca airport before departure. But we tried to make use of the kids playground at the airport. My children had something to distract them for hours.
We left our home at 11pm on the 25th December because we didn't want to take the risk of going to the airport at 2am. At 2:30 am, check in commenced and we had 10 luggage checked in..
We moved over to the lounge to wait for boarding. Caught some sleep and at 5am/5.30am, boarding started. I have 3 super active 2 year old. It was their 1st time flying as toddlers. They cried and wailed for about 3 hours to Casablanca. They couldn't be pacified. We did everything except spanking. Maybe , we should have. It was not a good experience. As babies, on our way from the US via Delta Airline, they were the most behaved babies. In fact, the flying crew gave them presents. They didn't cry at all. They simply ate and slept. But with Air Maroc, they gave my husband and I , the disgrace of our life. The crew even had the audacity to tell us to start training them well. Kai! I have suffered!
Before we left for Canada, I took them one by one to the Toilets and gave them stern warning. If they disgrace us one more time, they will certainly have it hot with me. I was done with the cries and wails. As if they listened, our 7 and half hours flight to Montreal was lit. They were well behaved. They watched some animated movies and probably, if we had that in the Lagos to Casablanca flight, they would have been calm. They ate, drank , watched movies, coloured their animated booklet and the flight was a smooth one. Phewww!
At the point of entry, we used the electronic machine to sign in and then moved to the Officer for us to be stamped in. Then , as soon as I brought out my children's Blue passports, one overzealous officer began to question how I got them! Can you imagine? Was I living in the US? How come I gave birth there with a visiting Visa? In all, I was calm because I didn't sneak into the US to use their Health Facilities. I told her I was carrying triplets and wanted the best medical care I could get. I had a visiting visa then. She interrupted me: "So, you decided to use it to give birth as of I was just visiting the US!" I said No! Before I became pregnant, I have traveled so many times to the US. When pregnancy came, I wrote the Embassy informing them of my intention to use the visa for delivery and they replied that I could go ahead and make sure I paid my bills which I did. Would that be an offense? She then kept quiet! She stamped us in and then directed us to where I would get my study permit.
While I was on the queue at Immigration point 2, an officer asked to see our passports. I gave her. She asked if the children are leaving Canada within 6 months, I said No. They are staying with me all through my studies. She sent us back to Immigration point 1 to collect another form. They should have given us the form over there. I went back but this time around, a male officer attended to us. He was the opposite of the female officer who initially attended to us. He was kind and took his time to prepare the documents for the kids. They were given study permits too that would last as long as mine. I was so much in a hurry to get our luggage that I forgot to get my Social security number or something like that. Will be getting it today or tomorrow.
At the baggage claim, we saw 9 out of our 10 luggage. We went to loge a complain but Air Maroc stand was empty. We were asked to call their number. We then moved to catch our Airport shuttle to Sherbrooke. It was about 2 and half hours journey from Montréal. It's a beautiful and calm town. Our shuttle took us to the Hotel where we are still at waiting to rent an apartment. Would be seeing one today and most likely going to rent it. A 2 bedroom fully furnished with everything from Internet to TV to everything. We just take our luggage and ourselves in. Then , we can move in comfortably.
I also opened an account yesterday with RBC which was recommended by one of the receptionists at the hotel. They don't charge on student's account. So, I'm cool with that. I also went to the Mall to buy a Sim card. Settled with Fido because they were the only company willing to give me a Sim without my social security number . They used my Study permit Code , International Passport and Student Visa.
For the missing luggage, ( it was the suitcase that contains our local food, my Garri, semo, ogbono, crayfish, powder pap, etc . All the flours and blended food stuffs were kept their to avoid rupture. It is an echolac suitcase) I called the number I got from the airport, was advised to go to their Facebook page to send my complaint. Which I did and an administrator took it up. I got a message from him last night asking me.to go to the airport and pick up my luggage. It was found and kept for me.
For the missing luggage, I have had a missing luggage issue with Delta, Air France and KLM and I didn't go about thrashing them on social media. Those suitcases were eventually found and I picked them up at Lagos Airport. There's nothing wrong with Air Maroc, people just like to follow crowd and lose objectivity! Their food from Casablanca to Montreal was good too. My children enjoyed it (Fish and vegetable). The crew was nice too but can't say so with the Lagos to Casablanca crew. They were not so nice maybe they were irritated by my children's behavior but they are 2 year olds for crying out loud. One even said something nasty in French, not knowing I speak French..I told her never to repeat that in her life! She was shocked. Aside that, anyone who wishes to fly them, can go ahead. If I don't use them again, it would be because of the long wait not because of their services. |

Thank you for this Frankrobbn1: Hello Room!
I was going through the thread and I noticed that most applicants were refused of their study visas based on the following grounds shorlisted on this post and this has given most of them sleepness night, some have decided to quit the Canadian dream and end up having the mindset that Canadian study visa is tough and can not be easily approved unless you use an AGENT, some even go as far as paying millions to AGENTS just to get their study visa. I must tell you that it is a lie, most agents even go as far as complicating issues for applicant, which most times lead to misrepresentation and a 5 years Ban. After reading this post, you have to get up to your feet , beat your chest and do things in the right way and get your study permit app approved Asap.
RECENT REFUSAL GROUNDS:
1-) Purpose of visit 2-) Current employment situation 3-) Personal asset and financial status. 4-) family ties in Canada or home country.
In this post I'll address the above reasons and give POSSSIBLE WAYS to tackle the concerns of the visa officer.
1-) PURPOSE OF VISIT -
It is important that your visit coincides with an important event in your life or the purpose of the visit can be reasonably explained in your SOP. If it is for study you must have qualifications in that field or have the expertise in that area. Most times, your job role or company should be relevant to previous studies and to your chosen field of study in Canada. If you decide to change career path, it should be clearly stated on your SOP with compelling/strong/ and convincing reasons to why you decide to change a career path.
Your letter of intent should reflect the following and should be addressed in each paragraphs to avoid repetition. 1-) Describe your academic background briefly. 2-) Why you choose Canada not Nigeria. 3-) The school. 4-) The program of choice. 5-)How you intend to finance your studies in Canada without working. 6-) What you intend to achieve at the end of the program and how it might benefit you in the future.
Everything should point to 'studying in Canada' not working or visiting friends and family in Canada or securing a PR after completion of studies.
Address all academic backlogs, study gaps, study plans etc... on your SOP.
2-) CURRENT EMPLOYMENTSITUATION
Every embassy will like to satisfy themselves that the applicant has a gainful employment in their country of residence and that the prospects of getting a job when they loose their current one is high. That satisfies them that you won’t leave your job when you travel to their country. Canada’s High Commission is no exception. You need to prove to them that you’ve been working for at least 2 years continuously, you earn a good salary, say CAD$400- CAD$1,000 plus a month depending on the level of your education, you have leave to travel, and you are qualified for the job you are currently employed in. So add your CV, school certificates, previous and current job offer letters, leave letters, pay slips and introductory notes from your firm to evidence your employment.
3-) PERSONAL ASSET AND FINANCIAL STATUS
Like most embassies, the Canadian High Commission will also be interested in your finances. Show a 6-month bank statement or more for any Canada visa application; both current and savings accounts, showing your salaries or income from employment. If you have treasury bills, building society savings, mortgages, microfinance or credit union savings and the pass book or certificates, share investments in companies etc, add all to prove you have enough financial resources before and after your trip. There is no cut off bank statement figure. So try as much as possible to show your monthly inflow and outflow of salaries in your salary bank statement with a good closing balance as a proof of financial establishment.
4-)
FAMILY TIES IN CANADA OR HOME COUNTRY
Prospective travellers who were refused with this point wondered why they should have a family in Canada before being given the visa. Note that the full statement is “family in Canada OR family in your home country”. So its either you failed to prove each criterion or both criteria, that is, whether you have family ties in Canada or whether you have family ties to your home country. This is what you do :
Show sufficient ties to your home country i.e. what will compel you to return home?
1-) Do you have a spouse and kids(minors) and are you leaving them behind? 2-) Do you have elderly parents who depend on you? 3-) Do you own businesses/property that you need to continue managing? 4-) Do you have adequate funds? 5-) Do you have family members whom are not accompanying you to Canada?
All these mentioned are HOME TIES, so if you have any of the following listed, endeavor to show evidence to each of them and make sure you add it to your application.
The above information is Legit and was obtained from a Canadian Legal personnel.
I wish you all Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
All the best to the hopefuls and to the approved, CONGRATULATIONS!!!. |

Hello all. I'm a silent reader and have learnt so much from this thread. I'm yet to apply for my study permit but I'm sure that with God on my side coupled with the things I've learnt from this thread, there wouldn't be any issue and I'm grateful for that. There's a recent trend I'm noticing, questions are rarely answered these days, I admit many of these questions asked are unnecessary because most of the answers can be found if only people read previous thread or even go to page 0 of this particular thread but there are still some questions I feel are really important that the gurus rarely answer these days. I know everybody has a life to live and will be really busy and I'm not at the other end so I wouldn't know how difficult it is shuffling between school and trying to make ends meet which might make it not easy coming online and keeping up with most things that is posted here here but pls I'm begging the gurus, don't let this our lovely thread die because so many people gained lot of knowledge from here which made their travelling easier, as much as possible try to create small time to help we the novice. A friend recently got denied and before applying he reached out to few people, so his SOP can be reviewed but there was no response from anybody. I really appreciate all the efforts you've all made and I'm a beneficiary of getting tremendous help from few people on this thread but going through the previous thread and reading old posts, I could feel the love amongst people that had not even met each other which is gradually fading away here, everybody really tried their best to help each other out then, please let's return to the Status quo, so this platform will not die. To the newbies I'm sure if you can just take out time to read well, many unnecessary questions will be avoided and it will be easier to notice the more important questions. I pray travel falls on all genuine applicants in Jesus name. Thank you N.B. I'm very sorry for the long post |

Submitted on Thursday , 26th at VFS, (Paper Route), linked it online 2 days after. Been checking my CIC page since then for an update. Today, I got a mail from them. I took my time to check. Was thinking it is about passing my medical. Lo and behold, it was APPROVED!
I want to say a special thank you to Maziude. He was always there to answer my questions and concerns from the beginning of my application. I took his advise of going for a PhD instead of a pgd. I am glad it paid off in the end.
Thanks to Jerry for reviewing my SOP. I appreciate. Now, to mothers who want to go with your little children, please do apply with them. Just ensure you have enough money to prove you can take care of them financially and otherwise. You will be fine.
I pray to as many that desire to go study and represent Nigeria well , TRV will fall on YOU ALL. @Mamacaja , come here o, your sister has been given a TRV! I'm returning to Naija as Doctor (Mrs) . A specialist and authority in Education by the special grace of God.
Finally, commit everything to God. I took a step of faith, 2 days before I submitted, I went to church with all my documents. I knelt at the church altar and handed everything to God in faith. I have done mine as a human. God , please have the final say. He sure had a final say!
@maziude my brother, your Ijebu garri and Bendel garri are coming. Your sister will supply you more than enough Bro. See you soon in Cannyland. |
