People mention trousers for women like its an abomination. Don't you all fanatics know that shirts was first made for men? and we have shirts for women now and trousers is no different. Why make trousers an issue? what of suits, ties, jackets that were originally made for men before those for women started popping out? The issue of clothing is one determined by the world and all we as Christians have to do is to be wise by being decent and modest. The ruler of this world is the devil and he knows about most things invented, both good and evil. the food you eat were not invented by Christians, especially the African food. does that mean you won't eat it again because our fore fathers were core idol worshippers? When I used to be a fanatic like some of you, I realized that I didn't have a strict scriptural backing against these things. Most of us fail to distinguish between personal revelation and general revelation. God told Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac, he obeyed without complaint. He didn't even tell Sarah his wife. Why? Because he knew what God asked him to do has no Biblical or moral justification and Sarah who was in her right mind would have opposed to the slaughter of her son. He went ahead without consulting her and God proved himself. God actually tells some people to drop these things, Some seek advice from others and they tell them no, it isn't against the Bible while some go ahead and obey God which is the right thing to do. Hence, my message, because of the outcome of Abraham's obedience will it be right for him to tell everyone that for them to seek favour from God they must; try to sacrifice their children, go on a journey to a foreign land, circumcise their children, and do other things God asked him to do? no, it won't be right. Why? Because God deals with everyone according to their measure of faith. To those of you who God has personally told to stop, stop but don't go about telling others to do the same because that might not be God's plan or word for them. Or should I because God told me not to marry so that I can do his work more efficiently tell others to abstain from marriage? that would be foolish of me. And this case ain't an exception. God knows how well you can do his work and He won't hesitate to tell you when you show interest. And remember different strokes for different folks. Shalom! |

What is Bible? Bi·ble [bb'l] (plural Bi·bles) noun 1. Christian holy book: the sacred book of the Christian religion 2. Jewish holy book: the Hebrew scriptures, the sacred book of the Jewish religion Microsoft® Encarta® 2009. © 1993-2008 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Enigma: One I made earlier |
chukwudi44: Madam please note the point I am making.I said the church existed before the bible.I did not say it existed before the writing of scriptures or what you call biblical writings. The words bible and scriptures are not synonyms as the bible is only a subset of the larger scriptures. What is Scripture? scrip·ture [skrípchər] (plural scrip·tures) or Scrip·ture [skrípchər] (plural Scrip·tures) noun 1. biblical writings: the sacred writings of the Bible 2. biblical text: a passage from the Bible Microsoft® Encarta® 2009. © 1993-2008 Microsoft Corporation. chukwudi44: so the holy spirit only speaks through youOf course not. I meant give the Holy Spirit a chance to teach. How? by praying for more light on this topic. Sorry about that. |
lacum: the topic we are treating is trying to give d bible its proper place in christendom. d bible is not a manual or textbook or history book for xtians. we should know that its a gift from God to d church to further God's kingdom on earth. it canneva take d place of church which is d primary source of truth for xtians. Its through the Bible many of us today know about Christianity. The Bible is our guide to seeking and knowing the fullness of God. |
chukwudi44: The church existed befoe the bible .That is a fact .NB: Church here does mean mushroom business centresThere were biblical writings before the church. Jesus quoted from it, Phillip explained it to the Ethiopian Eunuch and Paul and Peter quoted from it when preaching. Read the book of Acts. |

lacum: the church couldnt have got its knowledge from d bible because d church wrote d bible. just like moses n d earlly prophets didnt know about God from d old testament because they wrote it. jesus tot d church n commissioned dem to teach d people in mat.28, He told dem"i will b wit u till d end of time"How did you know Christ ? Knowing Christ in this context is deeper than knowing him as a Saviour who died for our sins. As Christians, we are the church, it's the Bible through the Holy Spirit that gives us insight into the plans of God for us. |
Syncan: 1. The bolded is entirely your claim, not the bible. In Gen 3:15, God prophesied about this Woman and her enmity with the devil. In Rev 1 we see the war between the same Woman and the devil come to play. What God Promised in Gen, He showed its fulfillment in Revelation.I am tired of going back and forth on this issue. I've made my points and you've made yours. Give the Holy Spirit a chance to teach. Pray for more light on this topic. I've done the best I can. And whatever decision you make, know that you'll be questioned at the end of the age. @Pope II, you're quite annoying though and I guess I am to you. I was only airing my views on this topic but you failed to reason along with me, hence the insults. Anyway, I wish you the best in your decision (which is quite obvious). Sorry for the insults. ![]() We are still Christians and we should love and care for each other despite doctrinal issues. And loving and caring also entails telling the truth without compromise. Shalom!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
