I'm very much interested . how do we sync for the training

flyboi1:

thanks Bsbabe for this.

this has really pushed me to pick up where i left the dream. when the dream was still fresh, i had registered for CBAP, but didnt follow up because i didnt find any suitable training centre. most seen where either too expensive or far away. i tried youtube but that didnt last long. Data would not allow me to be great.

I have already bought the course on Udemy as i was reading your post. so i can start afresh.

Anyone interested in BA? we can come together to make the learning process fun.

Still in Naija, waiting for PPR.

Thank you Bsbabe..I have a couple of questions.. Did you get certified in 9ja before leaving or you took the courses in canny. I'm currently learning the courses on BA I got from udemy and like u said we handle some of these things in our daily routines atwork. Please highlight fuether on where you got the certifications.

Bsbabe:
Hi guys,

I have received quite a number of emails in the last two days since I responded to @TheCongo2 about being a BA. I have tried to respond to some but since I can only share my own personal experience and I seem to be repeating myself in every email, I am posting my response (modified) to the OP here for anyone interested and also so that anyone who still has questions can ask it here and other BAs can respond and contribute more to the pool of knowledge.

Let’s start with companies that can work for you best. That will definitely depend on where you are planning to land and the opportunities in that city. I think a first start may be for you to go to sites like Indeed and Workopolis to get an idea of how prevalent BA jobs are on your side of town.

So for me, that’s where you should start from. Then when you see these job postings, review a good number of them to determine the skill requirement ask that is consistent across the different job postings and compare these skill requirements to what you currently have now. In doing that, I would advise you dig deep and think well about your experience because you may have a number of the skills but the way they are presented, you may think ‘oh no, I haven’t done that before’ simply because the work was not presented in the same format in Nigeria.

Now for the BA world, the most important skill I believe is your ability to communicate and analyze. And the way you present yourself starting from your resume is a skill in itself. As a BA, you will see them asking for experience and skills in the areas of requirements elicitation, requirements documentation, requirements analysis including the knowledge of BPMN and UML (which covers the development of Use Cases), as well as requirements specification and tracing. Also, knowledge of SDLC is very important – especially Agile/Waterfall and then skills in using Microsoft office tools and in a number of cases, SQL and/or Tableau for data analytics. Oh yes, also knowledge of developing test cases as well.

If you are not familiar with these terms, I would advise you go online to do some research. In my case, I bought some BA courses online from Udemy and learnt everything I needed to learn and familiarized myself with the BA terminology here as these terms may appear strange to you at first but after going through BA courses, you will realize they are experiences you have one way or the other but we didn’t use these terms in Nigeria. BA trainings are really expensive (but required if you want to become certified as a CBAP – Certified Business Analyst Professional). So I started with Udemy but still attended a BA training as I needed the units to register for CBAP. I also got myself certified in Agile software development process – so I got certified as a Scrum Master and a Scrum Product Owner. You will see some BA job postings also asking for some Agile or specifically Scrum knowledge. Now, the agile certifications are good to have as they may place you above another candidate if it comes down to a selection but is not a necessity straight away and I say this because honestly, they are not cheap. Each one will set you back at least about $1,200- $1,500 depending on the trainer (You can also research this). I also learnt SQL online and found that from the job postings I reviewed, there were a number of them asking for knowledge of JIRA (this is an issue tracking tool used by most companies now) so I learnt how to use JIRA too and also dabbled into a bit of Tableau.

Lastly, once you are familiar enough with BA terminology and all and you are confident, then go ahead and build your resume, tailoring it to each job posting. So first of all, build a master BA resume which will have your experience presented in light of all the BA terminology so e.g. “elicited requirements from customers and documented them for the development team to execute......”, “analyzed requirements, ensuring prioritization of needs according to business goals.......”… something like that (by the time you review and understand what a BA does, you would understand what I mean). Also, present your system skills – so for example “proficient in the use of Microsoft office (advanced Excel is a required skill)” etc. In my case, I added stuff like “working knowledge of SQL and JIRA (as I couldn’t claim to be an expert since I just learnt how to use it).

So, I guess that’s the summary of it for me. Your resume is the first contact they will have with you so that’s by far the most critical document you need to develop. And ensure you tailor the resume you submit to the job posting and its requirements. No embellishments though and of course no lies as you will need to defend what you write in an interview. Just try and present your experience in a relevant manner. I really hope I have covered everything from my experience but if you have any more questions or clarifications, let me know.

A big congratulations to you..

It's PPR guys, see timeline below;

CRS: 463

Ghost Update: June 25, 2018
PPR: June 27, 2018
VO: Ottawa

Just a brief highlight:

POF - Gift Deed (64%), while a fixed deposit account was opened with the entire POF. I got a reference letter from GTBank (thanks to my account officer whom I have never met, I simply sent a mail to her requesting the letter in IRCC format) and then added it to the fixed deposit certificate, as well as evidence of gift transfer, and a reference letter and statement from my PFA.

ECA - I made a mistake earlier which turned out to be in my favour, did my ECA with WES in October 2017 and friends advised it should have been with PEBC, but coming here I learnt if my NOC wasn't 3131 then I'm good to go with WES. My advise to pharmacists with only BPharm degree, please use PEBC (irrespective of your NOC) to gain points for professional degree.

IELTS - As per IELTS, I didn't find it easy at all. Listening humbled me big time but in all I give thanks to God and my lovely wife for her unflinching encouragement, her question after every attempt was "so babe when are you registering again?" smiley, giving up was never part of our options. My attempts below;

Aug. 2017 - 1st Attempt: L6.5, R6.0, W6.5, S7.5
Sep. 2017 - 2nd Attempt: L7.5, R7.5, W7.0, S7.5
Oct. 2017 - 3rd Attempt: L7.0, R7.0, W7.0, S7.5

Jan. 2018 - 5th Attempt: L9.0, R7.0, W7.0, S8.0

Special salute to @GlitteringStar, @Newmum0615, @Ethelia, @mcstan18 and other e-folks here for the amazing and altruistic assistance you guys are rendering. It will surely end in praise for all!

Congratulations to you... God is wonderful
Ronards:
Hhhmmmm........ I don't even know how to start.

I give all glory to the almighty God, there surely is a God in heaven.

Towards the end of 2016, I looked at my kids n suddenly became scared for their future in this country. Spoke with my hubby n his reply was, "ki lawa fese bayi? Let's just be prayerful ". Hhhmmmm....... I don't think this man understands what I'm talking about. I lost hope for this country (sorry to say). We started praying " God, please have mercy on my family n do that which only u can do".

December 2016, I suddenly got a call from a family friend who I haven't spoken with for almost five years. He's a Canadian citizens based in Manitoba. He said n I quote
" se Nigeria to wa yen oti su e ni?"
I replied
"haaaa, oti su mi ooo but what can I do? "
Then he asked if I won't mind Canada n that was it ooooo
(really at that point, all I wanted was to leave this s******e of a country)

That same December, I applied for international passport. I didn't get it until January 2017

April 2017, I wrote ielts
LRWS: 7.5,7.5,6.5,7.5
Too low for direct Express Entry
Told me I have to go through PNP
What did I know? I was like anyhow, kin sa ti dey Canada.

So the journey to PNP started. Applied for Wes ECA n my transcript from OOU In May. OOU showed me pepper oooo didn't get transcript until August. To verify again took another one month.
Finally I got ECA n CxC evaluation in October 2017

Fast forward February 2018 after ITA we started looking for POF. Chai..... we suffer small ooooo I contemplated declining several times but my family friend was like if you decline, u are on ur own ooooo, he'll just take his hands of my application
Kamari!!! The struggle continued. Finally God helped us n we were able to sell off our landed property which led to bulk transfer of cash into our account.

Now na LOE we started to google how to write Loe n that was how I came across this wonderful thread with amazing people n large hearts (God bless u all) I copied my LOE from this thread can't remember the part n the name of the good person that posted it but it was in a tabular form. We prayed n fasted before we finally submitted our application im May 2018.

So house, here it is

If I may suggest, try as often as you can to pay with your card.. but if you really need physical cash you can quickly open an account, then use your mobile banking app to transfer funds from your GTB account to someone you trust in Nigeria to purchase FX and remit to your Canadian account. While you are on it you can have someone do western union to you.. I believe you should get close to 1000 CAD from westernern union. Sorry for the inconveniences you are facing.

Apt..
ysteph:
Let me drop this here this morning.

I read laminaria's post where he/she was so angry at the way people direct people to Page 0.
I'll use myself as an example.
After i read about Express Entry on the cic website. I started searching google for practical examples and information.
One day, i was searching google for something about POF and I stumbled on this thread.
When i opened the page google directed me to, i saw a post from Iphie...(can't remember the full moniker), i read it.
It was from reading about POF that i saw that, IQAS evaluation favours law degree, how to add a new born to the application, how to add spouse, how to obtain US PCC. I also got Inspector's Moshood's information, and many other useful information. I also learnt all the abbreviations from reading this thread. I have a jotter where i note stuffs down.

The people i direct to this thread thank me all the time for the valuable information they get here.
It therefore surprises me that people are angry because they are directed to Page 0.
No one is saying don't ask questions, but let the questions be constructive. Afterall, i also learn from other peoples' questions and the answers given.

This Canada when all of us want to go so, this naija style will not help us. We are so used to getting spoon fed for everything.
For those that haven't travelled abroad (no offence meant) let us not join those that are angry when some harsh answers are given.
It should ginger you to read. It's DIY in Canada and other civilised countries.
I'm not saying people don't help there, but you're expected to know some basic things. For example using the internet to get information.

To show how irritating some questions are, it was here i read a question, ''which bank is best for POF''. Recently someone said flesh up your job duties and the question that followed was ''how do i do that?''.

I expect that, many of us should be getting information from the living in Canada thread by now. There's nothing wrong in getting information ahead.

In conclusion, Please let us read and understand this Express Entry Process before asking questions. Many questions here are totally unnecessary. Meanwhile, for those of you, attacking Canadianfly, i'll say there's no need for it. She's just teaching us to learn the hard way. Smart people see sense in her sarcastic answers. Some others feel she's too harsh. There'll come a time when her response will make sense to all of us.

I rest my case.

Okay, where and how do i start celebrating and thanking God for His faithfulness and favor. I remember prior to my arrival in Calgary, i was discouraged from pursing a career in HR, as not being a lucrative career with little or no job opportunities in Canada. I was determined to follow my passion and dreams of becoming a world renowned Human Resources Consultant and i wasn't backing out.

On arrival in Calgary, i took advantage of one of the Government bridging programs , Corporate Readiness Training Program, a very good and informative one. I learnt how to write my resume the Canadian style, soft skills, interview preparation, and LinkedIn profile update. Then again, i was discouraged by the program instructor not to venture into HR profession yet as my little over 3months experience in HR will not be impressive to any employer. I contacted various recruitment agencies, and to God be be the glory, i landed my first contract job before the end of the program in a Multinational Investment Bank in Downtown Calgary. I continued my job search while working there. Lo and behold, one very good afternoon, i got a LinkedIn invite from the Director of Human Resources in one of the Oil and Gas servicing company in downtown, i accepted his request and he sends me a message, saying, "Hello, i am in need of HR Administrative Assistant in my company, would you mind sending me your resume for review". I quickly sent him my resume. Few minutes later, i received a call from the HR Manager scheduling an interview. I attended the interview two days later and she requested for two work references and promised to get back to me.

Before then, i heard God tell me, "the job is yours already, He single-handedly picked it for me. I am happy to announce to the whole house, indeed God keeps to His Word, i have received my employment letter and due to start work on Monday. For those till doubting that there is not just a God, but a Faithful one at that, who doesn't follow protocols in bringing to pass His Word, please you may have to reconsider your thoughts.

I am really ecstatic right now and want to encourage us all believers, do all you can, network all you can, prepare the best resume, enroll in the best courses, but do not rely on your efforts, put your trust in God and He will never let His children down.

Kontagious:

The two questions are different. One has to do with entry denial while the other visa denial. The entry denial is you getting to the country but you were not allowed in, put as turned back at POE while visa denial is your visa application being denied. Read the questions well, you'd pick the difference.

Thank you so much

Good evening great people. Please inhale a question..on feeling the application form on line, there are 2 columns under statutory questions in the personal history column that asks similar questions on refusal of visa or refugee immigration. The 2 questions seems similar but I doubt if they mean the same thing. I was denied US and UK visas in 2002 and 2007 but after that I have been to those countries at least a dozen time after the denials. the question is this do I indicate the denials for the 2 questions or which of the questions should have a yes for denials.

Which hospital? Maybe you should go to another CIC designated hospital.

That is the issue. The hospital said they can't access my profile for a new one as my details are not allowing them upload the medicals done. So i can't do a new one as a different person.

Go and do a new one. You cannot use last year's own.

"Medical certificates for applicants who pass a medical examination in or outside Canada are valid for twelve months from the date of the last medical assessment of an applicant’s file by a medical officer and/or delegated staff".

Good afternoon Great people, please I have a little challenge. I did medicals last year November 26th for normal visa application, however I have not been able to do a current one for my EE. I waited till today to see whether the first one will expire but the doctor said she can't gain access to modify my profile. I don't know whether to wait or try another hospital. The doctor said she will send them a mail and give me a response but I have limited time. Kindly advise on what to do next. Thank you

This is a lovely POF - leave it the way it is. Just explain you converted your funds to USD due to currency fluctuations. In fact it indicates you are not going to spend the money. You are good to go[/quote]

Good morning great people... I've learnt a lot from this forum with regards to Canada EE.. right now I'm at the point of submitting my documents for ITA. for the POF I have usd 19,000.00 ( i has to convert almost all my funds when USD was climbing up during the exchange rate volatility). Can I use the fixed deposit letter for my USD as the POF.. converting it to Canadian dollars is about $24,000.00 which is higher than the requirements for 4 people. Kindly advice
