Christianity EtcRe: Household Of God Pastor, Rev. Kris Okotie Separates from His Wife by virgo(f): 6:41pm On Jun 24, 2012
It was a bleak Sunday for the congregation of former pop star turned cleric, Pastor Kris Okotie when he announced the break-up in his marriage of four years to his second wife, Stephanie. The bad news which enveloped the Household of God Church, Oregun, Lagos stunned members as they stood still and speechless for seconds after he dropped the bombshell shortly to the close of  Sunday service few hours ago. The Sunday service which coincided with the June’s brethren’s’ birthday celebration had recorded soul lifting songs and dances interspersed with fervent prayers, ministration and cutting of the cake. Okotie, in a sparkling white short-sleeve suit suddenly drew the attention of the church. “Stephanie and I are no longer married. We have separated. You can see she’s not in church today. It’s due to irreconcilable differences and you should please respect our wishes at this time because there is no going back.

ayobase: So, making a suggestion can turn one to Chauvinist.
Na wa o!
Seriously?
Yes seriously. A suggestion like the one made by Paul was discrimatory, sexist and very chauvinistic, but it is understandable given that his views were founded on the patriarchal social system prevalent in the Middle East where he was from and where the three Abrahamic religions were founded. This value system sees women as nothing more than chattels and has always been against religions that venerate them. So there, Paul's opinion was culture driven and can be disregarded. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Tell your friend to slow down on his future plans with the girl until she gets a divorce from the man she married in court. In the eyes of the law, your friend's girlfriend is still legally married and any other marriage will give room for a suit of bigamy against her.

Mankind8: The Mesage was meant for the Corintian women who believed to be more Than there Husband. The were proud, heartened and thought the were equal or supirior. Interesting analysis.

Thank you for this part "...giving them his personal opinion". At least we all know opinions can be disregarded.

Sean lenux: Go by what is in the bible, women should not be allowed to preach or lead any service in church. Its against the scriptures. If they must participate, it should be through their husband. May God increase us in knowledge.
Crap! Crap! Now stuff that fundamentalist crap where the sun don't shine. Jeez! What is wrong with you Africans? So because one chauvinist got his scripts included in the Bible, women should become invisible. Even the white man who brought his religion to you enjoys his hordes of female preachers. So what did the Bible say again? undecided
PoliticsRe: French Ship Impounded Over 8.5m Barrels Oil Theft by virgo(f): 12:38pm On Jun 24, 2012
Orikinla: As long as names of those implicated continue to be withheld Nigerians will continue to be held captive by these political armed robbers who are shareholders in the illegal oil export of our crude oil. Please, note that oil theft and oil subsidy scams increased with the election of President Goodluck Jonathan. Arresting the oil tanker is the issue, but what happens to the recovered stolen oil and what happens to the oil tanker. Just wait and see what is going to follow next? The oil tanker will be released or allowed to escape with the stolen millions of barrels of our crude oil. And it would be business as usual. The solution is to recover every barrel of stolen oil and THEN SINK THE OIL TANKER and also SINK EVERY OTHER TRESPASSING OIL TANKER IN OUR WATERS. Then the owners, crew and customers should be tried and jailed for life.
Amen.

PoliticsFrench Ship Impounded After Stealing 8.5m Barrels Of Oil From Nigeria by virgo(op): 10:45am On Jun 24, 2012
à special naval team has impounded a French ship, MT Vannessa, which has allegedly been stealing 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day from the country since June 9.

SATURDAY PUNCH investigations on Friday showed that six crew members, including two Britons; two Nigerians and two Togolese, were also arrested.

A top naval officer, who pleaded anonymity, said the arrests were made at Brass Loading Terminal, Bayelsa State.

Since June 9, when it had been loading 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day to Thursday when it was impounded,  the naval team suspected that the ship might have stolen 8.5m barrels of crude oil.

It was gathered that the suspects, who had made useful confessional statements, indicted some political office holders, many fuel marketers, some officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and Department of Petroleum Resources.

It was learnt that security agents had started discreet investigation of those indicted by the suspects.

The indicted officials, investigations showed, had also been put under surveillance.

The special naval team, it was learnt, was assisted by officers of the National Maritime and Administration and Safety Agency and a private security firm, Global West Vessel Specialist.

The impounded ship is currently being anchored at Bonny, Port Harcourt anchorage.

Our correspondents learnt that the country’s actual OPEC quota is about 2m barrels per day.

But 500,000 barrels are being lost to theft involving some ships such as the one that was arrested on Thursday evening.

Describing the operation of the ship, the naval official, who spoke with our correspondent, said that the illegal loading of crude oil was done with the connivance of a European company.

The source explained that the firm provided personnel and equipment to enable the French ship to discharge the stolen crude oil into a bigger ship of 950,000 barrels capacity on the high sea.

He said, “A piece of equipment, mooring master, provided by the European firm, disturbed the radar of Nigerian authorities.

“This made it difficult for Nigerian security agencies to detect the illegal operation. We are also suspecting that many other ships are involved.”

Investigations showed that the special naval team was set up after the escape of a Libyan ship, MT Alyarmouk, which was impounded on June 2.

SUNDAY PUNCH had on June 3 reported that the Libyan ship was impounded in Lagos for allegedly operating illegally on Nigeria’s waters.

The ship was impounded by a combined team of officers of the Nigerian Navy, the National Maritime and Administration and Safety Agency and a private security firm, Global West Vessel Specialist.

The top naval official said, “There is a strong suspicion that some security agents were involved in the escape of the Libyan ship, which is said to be in Lome, Togo now.

“One thing is certain, there is an involvement of top government functionaries, the NNPC and DPR officials. I don’t think this one (the French ship) can escape because of the involvement of the Presidency.”

The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, had, at a roundtable discussion on crude oil production and the state of the oil industry in Nigeria on May 18 in Lagos, said that the country lost $7bn yearly to crude oil theft.

The minister had said, “The country is losing approximately 180,000 barrels of oil equivalent daily at this time. Of course, to the nation, if you look at the international cost of a barrel, it will be estimated at $7bn yearly.”

When contacted, the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Kabiru Aliyu, neither denied nor confirmed it.

He said that he was making efforts to reach naval personnel, who could provide the information in relation with the incident.

However, he later said, “The ship is under arrest and investigation is ongoing right now".

maclatunji: Leave all that aside- how are you LLV? Now, to the topic, practice true federalism and not a disguised unitary system of government and this will not be an issue. Mind you, I am not an advocate of that national conference rubbish- we need free and fair elections where the people's votes count. Once elected officials are accountable to the people, you will not have all of this bitterness, suspicion, corruption and disorder in the land.

States that want to buy rams for each family can do so if they want or are we not in a democracy?
I am with you on the need to practice true federalism, but don't you think also practising this welfare or nanny system is inimical to our growth?

maclatunji: Speak for yourself. Go to National Assembly to change the constitution if you are so disturbed. End of year bonus... how very natural.
Don't you think this is the reason why we have so much conflict in the land? leaders past and present have always used these religious based incentives to keep the masses pliant and divided. From pilgrimages (Christian and Muslim) to bonuses for religious holidays or events, our leaders have got it all wrong. Why not use these funds to develop crumbling infrastructures around the country instead?

PoliticsRe: The West Selfish For Refusing Okonjo-iweala World Bank Presidency - Mugabe by virgo(f): 1:51pm On May 25, 2012
Mugabe might not have the moral right to accuse the West of selfishness as regards NOI's loss of the World Bank's seat but I dare say he is right. But like someone here rightly points out, there is an unwritten law of succession in IMF and the World Bank with the former being exclusive to the control of Europe and the latter, nothing more than an American run business. I think Africans need to wake up. You may be a Harvard trained economist or a world bank official with 25 years worth of experience as a notch on your belt, but when it comes to power, you will always be a convenient tool to be used and dumped. Echoing another person on this thread, Africans need to unite and concentrate on making the ADB a formidable institution, period.

Kobojunkie: Of course I don't enjoy folks like you coming in to set rules on how, or how I cannot debate. It is an open forum, if you do not like what I type, move on.

I have already responded to your posts, and you can pretty much apply the previous response here as well .
And on that note, I choose to move on . . . .
Then don't set the rules for others. Disagree with their point and not their manner of expression. That said, toodles. kiss

Kobojunkie: First, if you do not like my style of debating, ignore my posts.

Second, this is not an English lecture room that I have to use perfect English to please you. This is an online forum and I am not here to win any awards. Rules do not require that I first run my posts through a word processor before posting, so again, if you do not like my posts, ignore!

Third, you do not have to beat the word editor to be able to identify the meaning of statements made in most any language you are familiar with . . .

Next!
My oh my, aren't we rather sensitive today? Someone said, and I quote - "Advice, never apply for a job as an English Teacher,or a Language Teacher! Please, we have enough evening market trained teachers dragging the Nigerian Education System down."

The above statement, condescending as it is, implies that you have an excellent grasp of the language in question.

Anyway, this is just coming from an interested observer. Please carry on the conversation. I have a thing for your debates. smiley
