I have a colleague whose cousin in sweeden shipped his Fiat freemont to Nigeria. The engine was removed and a toyota camry engine was put inside. And it is being driven daily by my colleague. The shop were it was converted, there was a lot of range rovers there being converted.

Thank God four years going, my car have not broken down on lagos road. The day it did, my belt cut and I noticed immediately and navigated off the road close to trade fair and there was a mechanic shop close by plus I had a spare belt in the boot.

I bought another tokunbo alternator but the guy could not fix it, it wasn’t charging my batter. I brought another rewire, he said the alternator I bought is bad, he asked me to fix the old one, we fixed and he was able to install it and it was charging my batter. Few weeks after the alternator stop charging again, he inspected it and said we need to repair it again. We didn’t that again and it worked for about 3 weeks again and the battery light came on again


He asked me to buy another alternator and I did, when he installed it was blinking the battery warning sign, he condemned the alternator and I requested for a replacement from where I bought. He fixed the new one again and it was still blinking the warning sign. He said the speed clock is bad, and that is the reason the alternator is not charging the battery efficiently. He said I can drive the car for sometime while I find money to replace the speed clock. I drove the car for about 6 hours and the battery is totally drained. I have taken the car to another rewire now and condemned the alternator again, I told him to hold on because I do not think the problem is the alternator.

Please forgive my boring epistle, I don’t know how to explain better. I’m so confused and troubled right now

check the earthing abi ground of the negative terminal of your battery head. Trace it all the way to the ground in the car and confirm it is in good condition. There was a time my battery light kept coming up and i was visiting rewires till one elderly man checked the earthing, corrected it. Its been three years and i have not seen my battery light again.i didnt even buy an alternator again after 3 previous rewire condemned my alternator.

Now my own steering rack is still normal. Yet the fluid leaks. If I fill the power steering fluid compartment, I can use it for almost 2 months before it goes low again. My steering is still as normal as it should be. I even drove it down to the east from lagos and back during the Xmas holiday. Unless I tell u, u wont know I have leaks. Is the solution changing the rack too? Can it be fixed?

Please, I really need help before I give up on this car.
I have a 2006/2007 Honda Civic and the fuel consumption is extremely bad , it’s behaving like a V8 engine. This is far beyond normal, and I don’t believe simple sensor errors alone should cause this level of consumption.

Here’s my situation:
• I’ve replaced parts that were throwing codes (02 sensors, MAF sensors, Purge valve, Egr Valve, ect2 sensors, no hose leak anywhere, air filter changedl, plugs changed)
• Fixed the cooling fan (now working at factory settings)
• Reset ECU multiple times
• At every refill, I reset my trip meter
Real example:
• 16 liters → only 40 miles (~64 km) . that's around 10MPG
This is draining me financially.
I’ve spent close to ₦800,000 on diagnostics, repairs, and parts — moving from one mechanic to another with no real solution. Even tried a well-recommended workshop in Oyingbo — still trial and error.
Another example:
• ₦20,000 fuel finished just from Abule Egba → Airport → back
This is not sustainable.

Current observations:
• Spark plugs are brown (no oil, no black soot)
• Engine runs relatively smooth , with a little vibration(I just realized my mount is bad and that could be he reason for the vibration)
• LTFT around -21%
• No major current fault codes
• Mechanics here don’t seem familiar with proper fuel pressure testing , so I haven’t done that
I’m honestly exhausted and frustrated. I don’t have access to highly experienced professionals, and I keep wasting money without solving the problem.
Please:
What could cause this level of fuel consumption on a 1.8L engine?
What should I check next that others might be missing?
Any serious, experience-based advice would be greatly appreciated. I honestly don’t know what to do. Pple just dey refer me to their pple on man know man. At the end na rubbish

Kindly note: the steering tilts up and down and goes in and out when operated from the knob on the steering system. The seat also moves in and out when prompted by its buttons.
