Politics / Re: My Generation Has Failed Nigerians - Wole Soyinka by VKasparov(m): 7:38am On Apr 09
I agree, that the fact shared by the founder of Dubai is true.

The Sardauna/Zik/Awolowo generation in Nigeria faced a lot of struggles while growing up under colonialism. However, they made sure that the next generation they raised had a much easier life by providing them with everything they needed.

Unfortunately, this pampered generation became spoiled and ended up causing chaos in the country, ultimately leading to the situation we face today.

I agree with Professor Woke Soyinka when he said, "I feel sorry for the next generation because my generation is a wasted one."
Politics / Re: My Generation Has Failed Nigerians - Wole Soyinka by VKasparov(m): 7:36am On Apr 09
The founder of Dubai, Sheikh Rashid, was asked about the future of his country.  He replied, "My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel, I ride a Mercedes, my son rides a Land Rover, and my grandson is going to ride a Land Rover…but my great-grandson is going to have to ride a camel again."

Why is that, he was asked? And his reply was, "Hard times create strong men, strong men create easy times. Easy times create weak men, weak men create difficult times. Many will not understand it, but you have to raise warriors, not parasites."

The lesson of this story is that successful people and empires are not made what they are overnight. Success is always an end product of failures, rejections, harassments, discouragement, attempting to give up, struggles and grace. Those who pass through such ordeals have more tendency to succeed than those who sit idle.

The more difficult the journey to success is, the more sweeter is the success itself. The less difficult is the journey, the more the success is taken for granted.

unclexofficial:
Wole Soyinka who spoke on Hard Talk, a BBC programme, stated that his generation has failed Nigerians as the  dreams people of his generation had about the country had not materialised.Wole Soyinka gave the above response when he was asked by anchor of the programme, Zeinab Badawi “Has your generation of older Nigerians failed the people?” The Nobel laureate said;

“Yes, I believe so. I compare today with dreams and aspirations we had when we all rushed home after studies abroad. We considered ourselves the renaissance people that were going to lift the continent to world standards, competitors anywhere. It hasn’t happened.”

Asked to comment about the 2019 presidential election, he said, “The 2019 election is one of the most depressing elections we’ve been through. Talking for myself, it wasn’t possible for me to make a choice for the simple reason that both candidates (President Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar) had histories – one immediate, one past – which made one look for alternatives.”

I just found out that the teeth were misaligned so I used a screwdriver to realign then. The clipper is quite sharp. Too sharp infact. My barber had to blunt it a bit with a sharpening stone. Kiki wireless clippers are indeed quite cool

Only Press TV (Iran) comes close to RT:
https://presstv.com/

Surprisingly, Press TV too is blocked. I guess the West does not want us to be hearing both sides of the story which will enable us to make up our own minds. They want to brainwash us with their own propaganda through the so called mainstream media. Sha, as the great philosopher Bob Marley said: You can fool some people sometimes but you can't fool all the people all the time. By the way, what happened to that freedom of speech and freedom of the press they have so often been propagating? I guess they were referring to freedom of their own speech and their own press. Their double standard is just mind boggling. I am short of words.

Well, they can't block RT in this day and age. Go to RT dot com (https://www.rt.com/) and watch RT Live.

You can also download the RT News App from your App store and stream them live.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rt.mobile.english

Above direct Play Store link is for Android.

They can't stop us from hearing both sides of the story.

Was RT available in Nigeria?

Did not know, but then again, I am on compact plus, not premium or above...

It's like RT has never been available on DSTV Nigeria O! Channel 407 is not available in any bouquet on DSTV Nigeria. I have been going through a lot of stress to be streaming RT online not knowing that it is even available on DSTV in some countries. Why is Multichoice discriminating against Nigeria? All the prominent channels are in DSTV South Africa even though we in Nigeria pay through the nose to watch DSTV. This is an eye opener!

Please how did you get to ship them to Nigeria, i also want to ship an item but am scared of being scammed

Amazon Global Shipping uses DHL to deliver to your doorstep here in Nigeria. It can't get more genuine than that. There are no hidden charges after you pay. It is as simple as that. After shipping direct from Amazon using Amazon Global Shipping, I have seen the difference and I will never ever use any forwarding service again.
Politics / Re: National Honours;mon, oon, mfr Etc, Of What socio-economic Importance Are They? by VKasparov(m): 7:30pm On Feb 03, 2022
Hmmm... I am a Public Servant. Yesterday, I was asked this same question among other ones during my Promotion Exam at the Public Service Institute, Kubwa.

Mention the entitlements of a Recipient of National Honors Award.

This was what I wrote:

1. He will receive a cash prize
2. He will receive a certificate
3. He will receive a medal
4. He will not have to join long Queues at the Airport.
5. He will receive a Presidential handshake
6. He will not have to do NYSC National Service if he has not done so already.
7. He will have the privilege of using the designation (GCFR) and the like after his name.

I have been searching everywhere to verify what I wrote but surprising such information is difficult to come by.

I pray I am correct.

If you are buying several items from different merchants then use myus.com (myus dot com) to ship them. From my experience, they are the best forwarding service. They are an American company hence they are well organized and transparent. They will not exploit you.

In fact they use Actual Weight of your items to calculate shipping cost as opposed to Dimensional Weight which some forwarding services use. This makes theirs much cheaper.

Also, they have a deal with Amazon and a lot of the other top US shopping sites in that you will not pay the usual 9% tax upon checking out if you are shipping to myus.com. I have used them for several years without disappointment.

If you are a frequent shopper like me, it will be wiser to subscribe to their premium service for a small fee. It is cheaper to use the annual subscription method as opposed to the monthly subscription. At the end of the day, even with my premium subscription, I find that they are still cheaper then the others cos they will not charge you any hidden fees.

By the time you calculate the hidden fees charged by those forwarding services that claim to offer free 2 weeks storage, you will find that they are more expensive than myus.com in the long run. Besides, myus offers 30 days storage.

I need more clarification on the highlighted extracts above.
Were the purchased items from Amazon delivered to you at your doorstep in Nigeria?

I'm asking this question because I'm an Amazon prime account holder here in the united states and there are some health supplements in Amazon I want to buy and send to my parents in Nigeria and, I have been practically awake all night combing the internet in search of a reliable shipping/ courier services that can deliver these supplements to my folks but I'm so apprehensive of using any of the services because of the negative experiences of the past.

I really want to be sure that Amazon delivers directly to the recipient's address in Nigeria just like it does over here and I know of their GSP services but I have never used it to ship outside the united states.

Your affirmation will help me to go ahead and purchase these supplements from Amazon and use their global shipping services and send them down to Nigeria to my folks.

Yes. They will deliver to your doorstep. They partner with local courier services in Nigeria to do that. If you are still weary, why not ship a cheap item first to try them out. It is usual to be apprehensive when using any new service so, the path of wisdom will be to try them out with a small shipment first until your confidence in them develops.

The only downside to Amazon Global Shipping is that they do not offer consolidation if you purchase several items from different merchants. They will ship each item separately.

This is helpful info. Thank you.

Shoptomydoor will die eventually if they don't change their ways. People still use them only because there are no viable alternatives. But that is changing now.

I tell you. Just go to trustpilot dot com [https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/shoptomydoor.com] and see all the negative reviews about them.

Shoptomydoor, we are telling you all this not because we hate you but because we want you to improve your services and to stop exploiting your customers so that we could return to you. It is only a true friend that will tell you your mouth is smelling. Others will just be shunning you. We will be proud to see a company owned by a Nigerian competing with the likes of myus dot com [https://www.myus.com/] e.t.c. in terms of efficiency.
Business / Re: What Is Your Experience With Shoptomydoor by VKasparov(m): 9:05pm On Jan 26, 2021
You may find this difficult to believe, but shipping directly from Amazon to Nigeria is now cheaper than shipping through shoptomydoor.

AmazonGlobal Shipping is much cheaper, especially for shipping items such as laptops, phones and the like.

They are honest and they will not charge you bogus hidden fees and inflated Clearing, Port Handling and Duty Fees. I recently shipped a laptop with AmazonGlobal shipping and they only charged me for:

1. Shipping and Handling
2. Import fees deposit

The import fees deposit was surprisingly low. When I clicked the link on “Import Fees Deposit” on their checkout page, they explained that if they did not pay customs up to the amount I deposited, they will refund my balance through the medium I used in paying for the transaction. However, if they paid more than the sum they asked me to deposit, they will not ask me to pay more. Imagine!

Also, at the Amazon checkout page, if you are using AmazonGlobal Shipping, they will not charge you the usual 9% tax of the cost of the items you purchased. It is Zero tax!

I experimented by shipping another laptop within that same period using shoptomydoor. They charged me for:

1. Shipping Cost
2. Clearing, Port Handling and Duty
3. Inventory Charge
4. Other Charges
5. VAT

At the end of the day, I discovered that I paid shoptomydoor a considerably higher amount than I paid when shipping directly from Amazon.

Moreover, Amazon also partners with our local courier services to ensure your items get to your doorstep in whichever part of the country you are.

I will never ever use any parcel forwarding service again when shipping from Amazon!

Kove:

A few questions
1. How do you guys purchase items that cost more than $100 from Amazon with the current $100 limit banks have imposed on their cards
2. Does Amazon do the shipping to your doorstep?

Answer:

1. Buy an Amazon gift card of $100 per each of your banks every month. Buying of gift card was designed by Amazon to be a way for its customers to save for future purchases. It is an E-Wallet so, each time you buy a gift card, it will add to your gift card balance.

I spent almost $600 on Amazon on 1st January. This i accumulated in Amazon gift card within just 3 days using my Nigerian debit cards. You see, I have 3 Debit cards:

Access Visa Card: NGN 402 per USD
Zenith debit card NGN 405 per USD
GTBank debit card: NGN 415 per USD.

Note: At this same period, shoptomydoor advertised their own exchange rate as NGN 485 per USD.

For some reasons, GTBank only allowed me to upload $95.and not the full $100 as advertised. Zenith permitted me to use only $98 , but this is still good.

I was able to accumulate $600 on Amazon by reloading my gift card balance with nearly $100 per debit card on 30th December. At the end of the day, I had almost $300 as my Amazon gift card balance.

On 1st January, I did same and ended up with almost $600 as my gift card balance. I used this balance at the checkout page of Amazon to pay for the items I bought and to pay for Amazon shipping.

2. As to the question of if they will ship the items to your doorstep, YES they will. They partner with local courier agencies to deliver to your doorstep.

Enjoy!

Hello, i just paid for shipping my laptop to Nigeria via shoptomydoor and the charged me 71usd and they refused to combine and save my laptop with other items. But I tried shipping the same laptop via amazon directly to Nigeria and i was charged only 63usd and i was told it will take 12 days. I should have used amazon shipping. This is my experience and i don't think amazon shipping is high because they are constantly improving ways to offer cheaper services and the will someday out do all this so called shipping agents and someone told me i can use post office to ship and it is way cheaper but delivery time is longer.

You are quite right! These days I discovered that AmazonGlobal Priority Shipping is the cheapest way to ship, especially for items such as laptops, phones and the like.

They are honest and they will not charge you bogus hidden fees and inflated CLEARING, PORT HANDLING AND DUTY fees. I shipped a laptop with AmazonGlobal Priority shipping and they only charged me for:

Also, at the Amazon checkout page, if you are using AmazonGlobal Priority Shipping, they will not charge you the usual 9% tax of the cost of the items you purchased. It is Zero tax!

I experimented by shipping the same laptop I bought again within that same period using shoptomydoor. They charged me for:

1. Shipping Cost
2. Clearing, Port Handling and Duty
3. Inventory Charge
4. Other Charges
5. VAT

At the end of the day, I discovered that I paid shoptomydoor almost double the amount of money I paid to ship the same laptop directly from Amazon using AmazonGlobal Priority Shipping.

Mark my words, AmazonGlobal Shipping will soon put all those parcel forwarding services out of business if such companies continue with their exploitative ways.

I have experienced this too. It keeps restarting over and over again for no just reason. They don't have a standard office here in Yola, I went to one of their agents and he said there is nothing they can do about it and that I should take it to a computer repair shop. What a waste of my hard-earned 15k. MTN ZTE MF927U MiFi here I come.

Blunt4:
Please has it come to the notice of any Nigerian that this new Airtel Vida M2 mifi that was imported in January this year has some problems...
1: It reboots itself you might not notice most times if you always have it in your pocket and the Wi-Fi auto reconnect is ON in your phone or laptop.
2: It will never charge to 100%. It will charge to around 96% and it will stop charging. Put on your dashboard and quietly observe it.

Note: This thing happens to only those that has this latest firmware that is dated 21 December 2018 which is Current Software Version: L02HAirtel2_NGR_Color_LCD_V004.

Those that has the older firmware than this one named above which is Current Software Version: L02HAirtel2_NGR_Color_LCD_V002 are safe and sound.

Please I will like us to observe this this things so know how to get a solution to this problems cause the one I have now is the third replacement I'm getting from Airtel Office. And to be frank I'm tired of going there for more complaints.

People might not know about this cause most of us are not tech savvy. Thank you

It appears Truecaller Pro call recorder is no longer working on Android 9 due to Google Android restrictions. I wonder why they made this foolish decision. It is so much easier to just record calls and play them back than looking for pen and paper to take down notes.
