My name is Olamilokun Oyekan. I came to US a couples of years ago and got admit to porsue Chemical Engineering Phd at MIT. It is a lot of strenous academic work and I always pull through with a lot of diligent. However, the problem was that depite the fact that I got As in my course work and do my researchs well, I still feel like I am dumb and my friends tell me that I am foolish. What can I do? is it a spiritual or mental problems? Your advise are welcome.

Pap is good and I grew up on it back in the days. I've not taken it for some time now because it is not readily available where I am currently. I feel the reason why many folks on this thread dislike Ogi or akamu is because of the way it is prepared by different people. When I was in boarding house in Ogun State in the early 90's, I hated the Pap that was served by the school authorities. It was watery and you were also given two small akara balls to go along with it . Those were the days of suffering as a secondary school student. However, when I went home for holidays, My step mum prepared the Ogi in a superb way. It was thick and she served it with delicious Agoyin beans and sugar.

It should be noted that there are different kinds of pap. I don't like the white pap made from white maize [ I guess this is the type of pap that many nairalanders find it nauseous and do not like ]. I love the ogi made from Yellow Maize and Guinea Corn [ This variety of Pap is reddish in colour ]. The Yellow Ogi is my favourite and we used to have loads of it stored in our freezer. Ogi is very nutritious and I love taking it topped up with Bournvita and granulated sugar [ not the unhealthy Dangote sugar o ]. Cheers.

What I find hypocritical of Jakumo is one of his post where he criticises Kosovo for his use of big words - Even though we know it is all in good humour for most part of Kosovo's post. Yet this Jakumo guy is doing similar thing. Nice one Jakumo.



Just to paraphrase what others have mentioned in my own style. The use of "Big English" words where simple one will do, is just retarded. The use of complex bullshit to try and confuse people when debating is idioticcccc. So all you muppets who see the need to come across as "learned" are just fcuktards. Thing is, VPersie, right now, everybody's got the pali. These days, when i see the deluge of foreign-degree holding Nigerians trooping into the country searching for jobs, it makes me wonder if, rather than spending the thousands of pounds or dollars studying in Britain and the US, one would not have been better off using that money to start up some small-scale business. Sounds crass, abi, but what is the real value of education nowadays? We're approaching a worldwide glut in 'educated' and 'qualified' people, yet economies are dying. Apart from personal pride and perceived prestige, there is little or no real value to academic certificates, if at the end of the day, we are doing it to fill the belly.

Is it not better to arm the people with real skill and not empty certificates? Look at Nigeria; for years we cried out that we didn't have an educated president, which was why we were sinking. Our last two presidents ar retired academics, in the sciences, no less. Are we better off?

I think the benefits of pali are relative. For every Yaradua and JOnathan, there is an Ezekwesili, Akunyili, Okonjo-Iweala, Osotimehin etc. Personally, I will gladly take a loan to attend Oxford, Yale, Harvard, MIT etc because I am sure it will be worth it. So it depends. If a Nigerian left 9ja to come and pay school fees in my present school, I will categorize the fellow as silly because this school is not as good as any federal school in 9ja, perhaps it is at the level of Convenant or LASU, maybe lower. However, if such person went to a really good school, I believe it will be worth it-in terms of earning power and job availability and potential for career growth. It is a pattern I have seen: very few peeps go to world-class schools and do not make a noticeable difference in their profession. I think they give them some special "greatness" mixture to drink before graduating .

And those guys that get foreign degrees also get invaluable exposure and contacts in addition to their degrees.

I do not think there is any industrialized nation today that got to its position by replacing science/engineering schools with technical schools or pricing tertiary education out of the reach of the majority. Look at AMerica today, the secret to its success has been capitalism and entrepreneurship.
And this is fueled by development of science and technology ( read Windows and Apple). Ultimately there should be a balance between pali-geared education and hand-skills geared education. BUt it is very important that the majority of the population get near-equal-access to both areas, if not we are inviting societal upheaval or economic ruin.

The question is not about whether or not I should go to parties. It is about what goes on at parties. Looking forward to replies that address the question.

As a sequel to my my topic titled "What motivates you," I will like to ask what brings you down most frequently, demotivates you, makes you feel helpless or like there is no hope.

For me that is a lack of understanding of what is going on-it really frustrates me. I always like to know why I am doing what I am doing or how I should what I am expected to do. Quite simply, a state of randomness/inexactness makes life hell for me. You know what they say about change being the only constant? Go figure.

I enjoy being the default underdog, and I like to turn every challenge into a major opportunity.

Me too. I love to do that which everyone believes cannot be done.

But that is more boring than NL.

I find myself in this position. I need advice urgently like sharp sharp.
