@OP

Why is that Nairalanders always have an excuse to go on an ego-trip. Everyone looking for excuse to big-up themselves or their friends. People living their real-life fantasies on NL. You should thank Seun for the opportunity to feel important.

Or maybe I am just bitter.
Nairaland GeneralWhat Other Nigerian Websites Can I Defect To? by VPersie(op): 12:42am On Jul 16, 2010
For those that know about multiple nigerian websites, I am disillusioned with life on NL and need a new lease of life. Where should I go to? I need your recommendations. Despite the fact that I have changed from my previously popular user name, I still find NL sucking away all of my vibe because of the quality of some posters.
Nairaland GeneralRe: What Has Nairaland Taught You? by VPersie: 12:39am On Jul 16, 2010
It has taught me to 'be yourself' not to carry on a false personality.
You really have not learnt anything. That is the opposite of what NL is supposed to teach you.

Hey thanks a lot for the myriad pieces of advice. Things seem to be going pretty good for now( except for peeps like mama-gee who give me a hard-on, sorry, hard time).

Having established in this section, I am looking forward to diversifying my portfolio. Look forward to seeing me in Romance very soon. Remember, top 3 by end of the year is the aim.

Love you all and I know you love me too.

Nairaland GeneralWhat Motivates You? by VPersie(op): 12:08am On Jul 16, 2010
I was thinking today and I realized that what really gets me hyped up is a chance to make a difference, an opportunity to matter in my environment. I also remember why I always felt unmotivated at work - because I felt that what I was doing did not matter to anyone. I found this discovery rather interesting because it did not seem very obvious. So I got curious.

What motivates you, both at work and in life generally, to do what you do ( at least 90% of output from you: actions, speech, thoughts etc)?

MOds you can move this to a better section if you think its necessary.
Nairaland GeneralWhat Makes You Come On Nairaland And What Pisses You Off About Nl? by VPersie(op): 12:00am On Jul 16, 2010
For me, I come to NL whenever I am bored, less busy, or need a good laugh. Initially, I thought NL will be a place to meet really interesting Nigerian peeps (I really miss home), but I have been left disappointed. So sometimes I learn a thing or two from the political section, but for the most part folks are not like Nigerians I know from back home, so I make the best of my time by searching for Becomrich's threads and filling myself with nostalgia by reading the Culture and Education section.

So, share what makes you come on NL and what pisses you off about NL.

Cause users who go around seeking attention by opening ridiculous threads instead of contributing in the forum deserve a ban.

And an example of such users is the poster who goes around creating daft and unnecessary threads.
Oh my Gosh! Mama-gee just talked about someone else opening ridiculous threads and SEEKING ATTENTION. Wonders shall never end. See pencil calling penis straight.
PoliticsRe: Jakumu English Nonsense. You Do Not Know How To Write English.(junk English) by VPersie: 7:26pm On Jul 15, 2010
And by the way, I have given up on trying to make you see the error of your ways. It makes sense now. Since one of your values is that someone that accepts that he is wrong has unstable character, then even if you see the error in your writing, your pride, dishonesty, and stupidity will never let you admit. You are a lost case. Akindanidani oshi.
PoliticsRe: Jakumu English Nonsense. You Do Not Know How To Write English.(junk English) by VPersie: 7:24pm On Jul 15, 2010
Falsehood declaration - dishonest, deceitful, ability to lie without remorse
Acceptance that 'your conclusion was in error' - unstable character, inconsistent, does not think before he speaks, signs of weakness, etc
'Since you have nothing to do' - jobless, unserious, idle mind, the devil's workshop etc
Dude, I am not like anybody you have ever met or will ever meet. I will try to explain this in a very very simple manner. First,I don't care what you perceive me as, at least for the most part. If there is evidence that I am deceitful, and you call me so, then it is not an insult, it is a fact. One question: if my posts contained falsehoods, and I do not say it, or I pretend otherwise, who is deceiving who? I said my post contains falsehood, and you decide to read meanings like  "deceitful, ability to lie without remorse" into it. Too bad for you. I hope it helps you sleep at night. I will say it again, I periodically TELL LIES IN MY POSTS ON Nairaland. Nuffin do me. YOu no dey pay my school fees, I no Know u before, so why the bleep will I want to lie to make you feel good or make myself look good in your eyes. As far as I am concerned NL is a virtual world and I treat it as such.

And you have joined the ranks of the incurably slowpokish people I have met in my life, especially on NL, who believe that somehow admission of error or acceptance of wrongdoing is a vice not a virtue. I pity you. You remind of so many failures in life. So when I discover that I did something wrong or came to a wrong conclusion, I should pretend that I did not notice or insist that I was correct just for the sake of argument. Dude, I swear, you are a lost case. And I like the point you raise about not thinking before I speak, because it just shows how you are are a waste of school fees (assuming you went to school). You know that if I tried to think about all the possible ways in which what I say may be wrong, I will never get to type anything, right?

Finally, it seems since you and your militant brothers in Warri have so dedicated your lives to militancy that you have lost every iota of honesty, virtue and morality. So if I have nothing to do and I decide to come to NL, it somehow implies that I am unserious? So when you come to NL you usually always have something else to do that makes you "not jobless and unserious?" So you are always busy every time of your life such that you never have a point when you are not doing anything? You, sir , are a fool. Akindanidani oshi.

And I do not want to restart with a new user-id.

I have been silly lately because I had these understanding that people on NL are generally not serious and did not deserve my best personality. However, I have met certain people that seem to prove me wrong. The problem is these people will probably be unable to distinguish between the real me and the silly-NL me. So what can I do restore sanity to my NL personality and become the charming, handsome, and intellectual gentleman that I am in reality.

I stumbled on a thread of yours while surfing through the sections of this beloved forum and I immediately identified the reason why your capacity to understand is limited. Incessant abuse of your body organs will result in continuous fatigue of the brain. I concur with your conclusions that I definitely cannot recognize what I am doing wrong and the reason is you have failed to honour my request. Barring vituperations from co-nairalanders, kindly HIGHLIGHT words for clarifications or synonyms. Until then you will only but see mistakes. A perfect example is a man with a blurred vision.

Thanks for the referenced piece of literature. I will expedite action to purchase the book.

Okay since you will not stop pestering me, I will oblige you of the little proofreading skills I have. By the way, the fact you do not agree with me should not necessitate your use of ad hominem attacks on my person. I have posted several outright falsehoods on NL so my previous posts are not a good gauge of my personality or intellectual abilities.

On a second thought, you latest post is so improved from your previous ones that I will give you the challenge to discover for yourself what you have done wrong before I offer any suggestions. Trust me, this will be more intellectually fulfilling for you.Best Regards

Thanks for commending my post. It is a cheap way to convince me that you are not dumb and your brain has commenced work.  Lest I forget, you need not proffer excuses for your demeaning posts on the other thread. It is also inappropriate for you to refer to your supposedly well composed posts on NL as falsehoods. Henceforth Nlanders will cease to take your posts seriously. You are definitely a man with a wobbly and unstable character. So sad. Moving forward, kindly learn to be responsible for your actions.

My dear(est) friend and colleague, haba now you sound like a baby in a pitiable condition. Ok, no vex again. yu hear? na joke w dey joke naw. nw water don full your eyes sote yu don dey use big big grammar too. i lyk d wey yu use curry for dat yur unwillingness for favor. hehehehe. so you sef sabi 'penultimate' chei yu come dey form lyk say yu no sabi anytin . wetin me no undastnd abt yu b say, yu go tlk one tin, do anoda tin. as yur own post dey increase, na so yur struggle to be grammarian. leave tori jare. all dose yarn say dem go declare yu persona non grata 4 NL na joke. na all of us gt our own yarns. at least no bodi sabi anybodi. yu sabi me? yu dey fear? lol

NB: I chose to communicate in the language as shown in the paragraph above to forestall misgivings (for your effective understanding) and herald the commencement of the amnesty era. Now you understand abi?
Dude, u funny gaan. As you talk am so, nobody know any body for NL. One tin wey i notice na be sey ur pidgin just flow naturally and make simple sense to me. I no need to re-read am to understand wetin u dey talk. But when I reach the english part, my head just dey blink red light dey wonder sey wetin Mr. Chairman dey talk. Na ma point be that: if anytime u write people no fit just flow with the writing like eba inside ogbono den e mean sey u fit don put too many words or unnecessary big grammar wey dey stop person from understanding wetin u dey talk in a jolly manner. E fit also be sey the person just no get sense and no fit understand anything. But me I know sey I get at least basic sense of written english and i dey read english wey dem ogbologbo smart people dey write. Na why I dey confident to suspect sey e fit be sey u impede understanding because of your "style". For example, if i wan make people really understand me, i fit rewrite your sentence as : I chose to communicate in pidgin[the language as shown in the paragraph above? WTF?] so you can understand me [ to forestall misgivings ? seriously? misgivings mean a sense of doubt or apprehension and this is not the same thing as "effective understanding"] [ also what is the difference between "understanding" and "effective understanding?"] and know that from now on [and herald the commencement of]____________{ "amnesty era" does not make any sense in this context (that is how poor your writing is) so I cannot correct that}.

The problem with pointing this out to you is that I will probably be caught writing in this manner sometime soon (because it demands little hard work and I can be lazy sometimes). It is the way most people have been brought up to write, and except you are lucky enough to have someone show you how poor the writing is and be ready to point you in the right direction, you will keep writing poorly and think you are writing sophisticatedly-think "the children's' reading book about the Emperor with no clothes." It is hard to not write like this because it is usually easier and demands less attention to detail and, perhaps, lesser cognitive abilities.

Else we get what we have now, a completely worthless system, which produces unskilled directionless computer scientists and engineers who come to Nairaland and post questions like 'What direction should my career go now?' or something equally asinine
I hope this is not a dig at someone I know. lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

If you knew about Einstein, you would know he started his career as a clerk in the patent office.
Nobody said people should not go to university. We are saying, for university education to have any value, there must be investment in it. Since we have more than proven that government cannot really fund it, it's useless dreaming about free university education, especially for the sciences and engineering.

Else we get what we have now, a completely worthless system, which produces unskilled directionless computer scientists and engineers who come to Nairaland and post questions like 'What direction should my career go now?' or something equally asinine
First question, how many schools are like Harvard in the world? Very few. In other words, if Nigeria had a school of Harvard's standing and it cost as much as Harvard and gave as much value as Harvard then no problem. Even in America, there are only a bunch of universities that are of comparable standing to Harvard or cost as much. A majority of the universities are priced for the middle-class and there are also universities priced for the poor. Also, most America citizens get government assistance to pay for school. I say because I see it in my school. People get checks for $1000-$3000 at the end of the semester that they can afford to spend on anything. In other words, in America, it is almost impossible to find a person that is willing to get a university degree but has to settle for technical school because of lack of funds. In the system you are proposing, that will be the case. What percentage of Nigerian families can afford 350,000 naira per semester or per month. I know my father cannot afford it (whether for one child or for his three children) and we are relatively more well to do than about 90% of the people I grew up with in the same area in Lagos. So if I developed a liking for mathematics in high school and wanted to study engineering, I will have to choose to go to technical school because through your system OAU will now cost 350,000 instead of the 20,000 my father has been able to afford.

First off, I can't even drive a Bugatti in Lagos, even if I owned one. Unless I get the amphibian model.
But seriously guys . . . wait a minute, davidiff? Were you not the gentleman extolling the virtues of a $200k Ivy League US MBA a while back?

You live/study in the US, don't you? Which one is more expensive, two years of community college, or four years of a medical degree?
You should think about it. There must be a reason why all these advanced countries place a significant cost on higher education.
Look at it, 340k Nigerian students supposedly passed JAMB with nowhere to go. Why perpetuate that?

In the first place, university education should not be a pre-requisite to good life. If you went to a technical school, and you became a highly-skilled builder, what stops you from making enough money to drive a Bugatti? I have a personal friend who relocated abroad with his masters degree in economics, to the UK. Now he's doing pretty good as a blue-collar bloke, with a construction business of his own. He even builds homes for people in Nigeria.

I think we just want to fan our false sense of self-importance by lining up all manner of worthless certificates, and we want the government to pay for our indolence. Sorry if I sound harsh, but I see this every day, numerous friends and family send me resumes of university graduates with their worthless certificates, all looking for a job, any job. I feel their frustrations and helplessness. But imagine if these guys were skilled technologists, at least they can earn a living using their skills, and if they so desire, they can further their education at university.

I even know a couple of people here in Nigeria, who left well-paying jobs to pursue MBAs in Harvard and Columbia (yes!). Now they are back to Nigeria, in the same company they left, doing the exact same thing they were doing. Imagine leaving a job working in Procurement, for a Harvard MBA, paying hundreds of thousands of $$$, and returning to the same job in the same Procurement. These type of people now bend the system and create a false elitist class, squeezing the company for titles and salaries they do not deserve, while giving absolutely nothing back to the organization. We are a developing nation, let's get real.

Just for the record, during my time, I actually sat for the technical college exams.
It is not necessarily a question of whether or not someone gets to live a good life as it is one of whether or not government has provided the opportunity for you to do what you want to do. I may end up being a successful builder, but what if I want to be an engineer? What the government should do is make the very basic level of different forms of tertiary education affordable to over 90% of the populace. If we define the basic level ( quality of education and chance of employability) as A, then level A university education, level A technical schools, level A polytechnics, level A colleges of education etc must all be made within the reach of the 70-90% of the population. The if you want Harvard-level education (something a school like Covenant University or other private schools may provide in the future) then you can pay premium for it. But to price out the majority of the population out of basic university education because they can supposedly turn to other options like technical schools is just, to me, the recipe for a class-defined, elitist, and unjust society.
