Thanks for this. Let them be busy committing sin and say they are believers. HELL awaits for them all. No sinner shall enter the kingdom of GOD. pelepeleb: Ezekiel 18:24 But when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does (sinners as mentioned by the first presenter), shall he live? All his righteousness that he has done shall not be remembered: in his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them shall he die. I hope every one will be able to answer the question by he or her self from above verse Ezekiel 18:24. No unclean ( not clean inning by water or oil or sand etc) shall enter heaven as we were told in Revelation 21:27 (And there shall in no wise enter into it (it here means heaven) any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.) so a believer that die in sin is not in Christ ( may God help us) and he that is not in Christ can not enter heaven and we have two places after this life, heaven and hell. Imagine what will make a woman, a mother of little kids, a wife stay outside her home after 10pm every day. The love has totally gone. This is the major problem we are facing doing business in Nigeria. Greed in profit making and at last the industry will die. Most foreign products come with 5% profit and sold all over the world in millions of bags and cartons thereby increasing turn over and profit, not concentrating on high unit profit. The same thing is killing Innoson Motors. maasoap: Some don't have stones at all. The price is the major factor. Why would they double the price in less than a month? Were they not making profit selling at the old price? Greed is the nature of every business man and woman in Nigeria. No patriotism, no nothing. If the price of imported rice is increasing for the reasons we all knew, must the price of local rice be increased too? |
Politics › Re: Border Closure: Nigerians Shun Local Rice, Sellers Lament by wacuc0: 9:31am On Oct 16, 2019 |
This could be in the other way round. With much local industries coming up competition among them will be much and price will surely go down and quality improved without much chemicals and preservatives as it is in foreign rice. Coscharis industries has done a great job https://www.nairaland.com/5413243/automated-coscharis-rice-mill-igbariam , Olam group is doing great in rice expansion so for others too. It will be better soon. As I said earlier the brewing industry did it, music industry did it other sectors can do it. 9jaRealist: Sadly, that’s UNLIKELY to be the case...
If local rice today was better than it was 10 years ago... It’s because local producers were COMPETING against foreign rice imports.
By closing the border, the govt has created a CAPTIVE market for local rice... The problem with captive markets (with we consumers as effectively PRISONERS) is that there’s no competition and no incentive to improve. >

Good one but there is always a change to difficult situations when it comes. It is gradually and persistent by tying many investment options without looking back. OBJ closed importation of canned and bottled drinks. Can we see what happened in our brewing industry? You can hardly see foreign beer any where or foreign juice or soft drinks in the market. All the dead industries were put to work and new once came on stream. This is what will happen to our agriculture and food preceding sectors and industries. What I am waiting for is for the government to look towards the textile and lather industries as well. We did it before (using made in Nigeria products) in 60s, 70s and early 80s lets do it again we will be surely be greater and bigger. 9jaRealist: We have a structural problem.... But we are trying to use a cosmetic approach to bamboozle folks instead of working to resolve the REAL issues.
Let examine the underlying structural issues that this cosmetic border closing does absolutely NOTHING to resolve, and why NIGERIA has some of the world’s HIGHEST costs of production and why we still rely on imports for even some of the products that we produce in relative abundance. Let’s start, for example, with tomatoes (since it’s what has kick-started this discourse). Nigeria is actually Africa’s leading producer (and among the world’s leading producers) of tomatoes, but we lose at least 40% of our harvests (some estimates put our losses as high as 60+%) before it gets to market on account of a lack of storage and preservation infrastructure and terrible roads and poor logistics. Closing the border does NOTHING to resolve this. It merely results in POOR NIGERIAN CONSUMERS IN THE WORLD’S CAPITAL OF EXTREME POVERTY having to pay HIGHER prices since without the Benin Republic imports, there’ll now be FEWER tomatoes in the market.
Now, let’s look at rice. It may surprise some to learn that Nigeria is actually Africa’s leading producer of rice, having overtaken Egypt in 2017 or thereabouts, but we are still short of meeting local market demand from entirely domestic production (either because our population keeps growing or our taste keeps changing, not surprisingly in tandem with increased urbanization). Accordingly, without importation, we merely replicate the situation with tomatoes - that is, POOR NIGERIAN CONSUMERS IN THE WORLD’S CAPITAL OF EXTREME POVERTY having to pay HIGHER prices because without supplementing local production with imports, we are left with FEWER rice in the same local market. Meanwhile, we have to HONESTLY ask ourselves how rice produced on the other side of the world (often with relatively more expensive labor) and then shipped halfway across the globe still manages to cost SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER than locally-produced rice (stone and all).
REALITY (and as my moniker indicates, I’m a hard-nosed realist) is closing land borders does absolutely NOTHING to redress why we have some of the world’s HIGHEST costs of production, not only in respect of rice but with many other products. Our farmers still rely on mostly poor seedlings and poor farming methods, and thus we have probably the LOWEST yield per hectare in most of the developing world. In addition, we are lacking in irrigation infrastructure, and thus not only are we still compelled to rely on the somewhat unpredictable fortunes of “the rains” but are also stuck with seasonal farming instead of year-round farming (which is why we are Africa’s largest producer of maize, and among the world’s leading producers but PARADOXICALLY also one of the world’s leading importers of maize - because for more than half of the calendar year, we neither plant nor harvest corn). Of course, already discussed the issue of poor/non-available storage facilities as well as poor roads and other transportation/logistic infrastructure, that constrains getting products to the market TIMELY AND COST-EFFECTIVELY.
Accordingly, if this government was really serious about sound economic policy and development, it would help farmers with improved seedlings for better yields, with irrigation infrastructure to drive year-round farming, proper storage facilities including cold storage for perishables (such as these tomatoes), much better road transportation and logistics infrastructure, necessary market and pricing intelligence/information, in addition of course to better agricultural financing and insurance, among others. Even if some misguided policy makers in Abuja erroneously believe that the border closure is an optimal means to encourage local production (not sure why, but the cluelessness and incompetence in Abuja can never be overestimated), there would still be a LAG TIME for local producers to cultivate, harvest and mill (in the case of rice) their products before even getting to market, so why a SUDDEN closure which simply results in FEWER products in the market.
Sadly, Nigeria has become like the proverbial farmer whose farm is on fire and instead of fighting the fire, he busies himself with chasing bush rats fleeing said fire. Thus, instead of addressing structural issues that impede local production and productivity, we merely place an additional layer of effective ‘taxation’ (an Incompetence Tax, if you will) on POOR NIGERIAN CONSUMERS IN THE WORLD’S CAPITAL OF EXTREME POVERTY by DECREASING the quantity (perhaps even quality) of goods available to them and thus invariably condemn them to HIGHER PRICES for fewer goods (and choices). So, let’s be clear about this - the closure of the land borders is an ill-advised resort to cheap cosmetic POPULISM (in derogation of sound economic policy) that bedazzles the gullible but which does absolutely NOTHING to address/redress our structural issues! After, Mr. Buhari drives even more Nigerians quicker into POVERTY, we’ll still be at Square One! > |

Ask why is Dangote investing? Our Government is we. My write up goes to mention people who were in government, not me and you. The way we look at life matters a lot which will transform to leadership and governance. Where Nigerians has gone to developed places with good government, the same character is still portrayed, which boils out the way blacks view life. The syndrome of I will succeed alone, and show other I have arrived. Can you think out why the called the small generator "I better pass my neighbor". We are much more after the downfall of our neighbor. Goods are cheaper overseas because thy are joined business, pulling funds and expertise together, ours are single handled business. This Nairaland started the same time Facebook started. US and Canadian Angel Investors invested over 130million dollars on it (First investment oo). We can see the difference. Summary is that we are not cooperate investors. Let me give you one simple example if you are sports lover. For over many years Nigeria FA has been battling who will show Nigerian League on Television and could not arrive to any. DSTV came and started it, the same NFF stopped them. MTN is making billions. Econet the first mobile network could not succeed. Hi-TV won the right to televise Premiership, they could not succeed, Super sports took over and succeeded. We love Socials, Sex, Religion and Materials things more than entrepreneurship. Just have time to do a small research on this, you will understand it. A country where any man who dies die with his business, it is not government that did it. Innoson has refused to open up his business. How many Nigerians are buying his cars. India does not use imported cars. TATA is now one of the highest employment of labour in the world. Another example is JAMB, for over 9years JAMB did not make any profile selling forms at 5k. A business minded person came there reduced the form to 3,500 the same year remitted 5billion naira to government as profit. Put similar person in NUC, our universities will remit over 50Billion naira to government. As why is a vice-chancellor building a 5 star hotel valued over 500milion naira (Hope you heard that news). It pains me a lot, let me stop here my friend. chrismex: No body is telling the government to spoon feed the citizens. You mention of people not investing in country have you asked why. What is the meaning of government. Why is it cheap to refine crude outside the country than in our country. Why is imported goods cheaper than local made. Why is it so easy to import but very very difficult and complicating to export. Is all this fault of the citizens?
Government is everything you need to understand the characteristics of government. |

Good talk my dear. There is a research by a Professor in Walden University , that Nigeria is a country where investment is in the hands of poor people. This is our major problem. A man with 20b Naira will not invest but me and you with just few thousands will be thinking of what to do. In Canada, that illiterate welder, somebody will see him and bring out dollars and invest in few years you will see an international welding company in many countries outside Canada. What does Babangida has that can employ a youth with over 50B dollars stolen, All the over 100 Past and present governors in this country with over N50b each can employ all unemployed youths, but what do we see houses in UK, Dubai, Canada etc where no body is leaving. Our simple solution to this country is rich men to come and invest, there could be a landing ground instead of chasing them to kill or jail which we just talk by mouth without doing anything and the money is laying idle outside the country. Imagine what we heard that Deziani has. That is 1 million youth's job. uckennety: Oga your totally wrong
That illiterate welder can't pass ielts exam needed for Canada immigration
That illiterate can't fill Canadian Immigration form
or is skilled at field problem solutions
Finally he can't express himself and will have communication problems in canada
That's why Canada will never let him in!
Op have you ever wondered why this unemployable Nigerian graduate who has no skill go aboard especially Canada, us, Australia etc and they make it?
Until you figure that question out we will talk!
In aboard there are jobs for the educated, uneducated, skilled, unskilled, professional, unprofessional
But here in Nigeria bricklayer hardly sees work, painter the same, graduate same thing
As a mass communication graduate I v to start somewhere right
So I can build my skills
Alot of branches of mass communication and things I can do but no job
If not for the season poultry and clothes business Since graduation in 2011 ooooo I know that I won't even v data and phone to reply you

I have seen people who has professional certificate on procurement, logistics, IT, customer service etc still unemployed for years

I totally agree with you. Here in Nigeria we want Government to carry all our burdens. Lack of investment by Nigerians is killing us. Even those that do invest, it is mostly for money grabbing not entrepreneurship. Ask, how many Nigerian owned business have seen next generation. Abiola empire collapsed, Ibru, Igbinedion, Chidiebere Transport, Inyang Ete, name them. Hardly any business in Nigeria is run with cooperate identity. We have one of the highest idle money in the world. It can never generate employment. Our idea of education is looking for job which is a negative approach, this will make the sectors or our economy not to be developed while waiting for government. Thank God the music industry took it upon themselves to push on. Now they are the 3rd most branded music in the world. Do the same in textile, sports, agriculture (this is trying), Education, Health, IT, Medicine (this is the worst, almost all hospitals and clinics are owned by one doctor), Pharmaceutical, Banking (Soludo tried to teach us cooperate business in banking through merger and acquisition). It pains so bad when you go to western countries you see companies of over 100years. You see people 4,5 and 6 joining hand and pulling fund to establish businesses that will run in over 150 countries. Why cant Nigerians do this. How many Aba shoe manufacturing young boys has teamed up to put up an enviable outfit to aim at having international presence in 100 countries. Very impossible. africa4ever: I totally agree with you. Somebody like you, if this country is given to you to rule ahhh we are finished. How many intellectual or sports competition in this country is valued like Big brother ? It is only in black nations you can see this and you are happy. A country where what makes news are sex, cultism, kidnapping and killing is finished. hush15: obviously, these people are in oblivion as its evident they never watched the show neither do they understand the workings even of human interactions and as a result, would be a flop.
to make correction on the wrong assumptions by these ignorant people,
1. Big Brother is a live reality show that covers 24hrs interactions between humans within a closed space for 99 days or more for the sole purpose of winning a grand prize. Housemates who occupied the big brother house are above age 18 and did so voluntarily without duress or manipulation and as such reaponaible for their own actions 2. Cause of the diverse nature of beings and emotions thats occupied the house, big brother cannot be held liable to the intimate affairs of some of its occupants afterall, we have seen some of these housemates also not engaging in sexual behaviours however, when emotions are built and it leads to intimate relations, its only human. Its only fair to mention that big brother also has rules to curb violence and hostile behaviours. 3. While the show is 24hrs, regular viewing doesnt reveal any intolerable sexual behaviours however, its called a live show for a reason and if that isnt enough for some people, they are free to watch the full edition uninterrupted by subscribing to a platform called showmax for the none edited version. 4. While i may not speak for previous editions cos i didnt really pay attention till final stage but this particular edition that i have watched very often and to be fair to the organisers, Big Brother has encouraged local content through the various games and task that they engage their housemates in. Need i mention the various cultural presentations or the in house games of ayo or ludo the housemates play to pass time. 5. Big Brother also has helped alot of housemates discovered uncharted talents and help achieved dreams they never thought they could achieve. Miracle of BBN season 3 was able to achieve his pilot dreams and BBN is part of that story. Cee Cee who was even undeserving got a fair share of the publicity. Need to say the show is a platform to exhibit various talents and creativity. Now i wish more Joe wasnt evicted. i want to see what more he can do. and honestly, if housemate positively harness the platform, sky is juat the starting point. 6. The food they eat are completely the choice of housemates and and BBN cannot be held responsible for that. They just provide the basic and special orsers by the housemates. 7. Personally, i think the show is a platform to mirror ourselves as a society. Its not about the show itself but about the people. the diverse characters and the human emotions than can exist between people. Where there are wrongs, it only reflects how our virtues as a society has evolved negatively, where there is lack of control and moral cohension which is not because of the show but due to society or parenting from which housemates in the shows comes from and where there are rights, it also reflects the parts of the society where we need to strengthen like unity, teamwork, moral standards etc.
Finally, FG is just being plain nuisance cos they jealous that at this moment, they dont have nigerians attention for their usual one week, one drama. They are part of the problem cos if youths had gainful engagements from the government, many wont have time but thats an impossible for them. They only painting the show black and if they start their own show, they should tell their constestants that they are not allowed to engage in emotional behaviours and if anybody that engage in sexual affairs will be evicted... chai, it already sounds voring enough |

You make a country good by promoting good things and deregulate bad once. it is only in this country where things like this attract big attention and big money price. Our sport is left undeveloped, science competitions and other intellectual competitions are not invested by our rich men.
