This thread is supposed to be a rallying point for reflections on how we should not allow this country to go down the terrible past again. Like I said , shut up.

Make friends with who? Nigerians abi Americans? If its Nigerians then you don't mean well for Op.
This place right now is a jungle, everybody is a potential predator.
Unfortunately op doesn't have money, I would have told him what to do.

Politics › Re: 2027: Jonathan Ready To Run Again, Close Ally Confirms by Walai(m): 7:47am On Aug 07, 2025
The amendment did not affect Jonathan. Let me give you a simple example, assuming today is Friday, if the constitution says that anybody that steals chicken will spend 3 days in prison and they sign a bill into law today that anybody that steals chicken will serve one year in prison and it happened that I stole chicken on Thursday but is on trial, the new law will not affect me because I already committed the crime before the new law was passed, therefore I will be judged with the existing law as at the time I stole the chicken. Guess you understand now?

OfoIgbo:
If gej runs, Tinubu will exploit this constitutional point.
Tinubu controls the judiciary, so it will be a huge mistake for PDP to adopt GEJ

Yes,
we are desperate to end hunger
We are desperate to end poverty
We are desperate to retire corrupt politicians
We are desperate to end the looting and stealing
We are desperate to end the killings going on all over the country
We are desperate to take back the power corrupt politicians hijacked from us the people of Nigeria
We are desperate to secure the future of our children born and unborn
We are desperate to see Nigeria work.
If that is what desperate means to you, yes , I am proudly desperate.

It is the duty of the President to initiate reforms including electoral reforms.

helinues:
I asked you a direct question. Is it the duty of the presidency to discuss the reformation of INEC?
Politics › Re: One-term Presidency Is Political Strategy: Arewa Forum Rejects Obi's Pledge by Walai(m): 12:50pm On Aug 04, 2025
Which parliament? Nigeria doesn't have a parliament currently. If AA party win presidency today, more than half of the house reps members and Senate will defect. What I'm saying is getting the parliament to sponsor an executive bill is the easiest any Presidency can do with the current Nigerian parliament structure.

omenka:
Are you going to reform electoral law alone or with the parliament? Isn't the parliament replete with those "old corrupt politicians" and their Stooges?

You guys don't even seem to understand anything about democracy and how it works.
Politics › Re: Why One Term Is More Than Enough To Change Nigeria by Walai(op): 12:30pm On Aug 04, 2025
Yes, the Presidency sponsors special executive bills which are signed into law .
A recent example is the Petroleum Industry Bills (PIB) and Tax reform bills

helinues:
Is the reformation of INEc the duty of the president?
Politics › Re: One-term Presidency Is Political Strategy: Arewa Forum Rejects Obi's Pledge by Walai(m): 12:27pm On Aug 04, 2025
Reform INEC, hand power over to the people conduct election where the peoples vote count thats all.
Retiring corrupt politicians is simple, let the votes count first and see what will happen.

Baggiojephlini:
Jerry John Rawlings ruled Ghana for a total of 19 years, across two different regimes:

1. First Military Rule (1979) –
He first came to power as a military leader after a coup on June 4, 1979, but handed over to a civilian government on September 24, 1979 (about 3.5 months).

2. Second Military Rule (1981–1992) –
He staged another coup on December 31, 1981, and ruled as a military head of state until January 7, 1993 (11 years).

3. Democratic Rule (1993–2001) –
Rawlings was elected as a civilian president and served two terms, from January 7, 1993, to January 7, 2001 (8 years).

Total Time in Power:

3.5 months (1979) + 11 years (1981–1993) + 8 years (1993–2001) = approx. 19 years in total.
Politics › Re: Why One Term Is More Than Enough To Change Nigeria by Walai(op): 12:23pm On Aug 04, 2025

Politics › Why One Term Is More Than Enough To Change Nigeria by Walai(op): 12:06pm On Aug 04, 2025
Any President that is able to reform INEC by signing into law a bill removing the power of the President to solely pick and appoint INEC chairman and making electronic transmission of any single vote cast in real time compulsory under the constitution have automatically retired all political criminal structures and politicians without firing a single shot.
Politicians build this structure for only one reason, to manipulate elections.
If power is handed over to the people, elected officials will work hard to impress the people, knowing fully well that any single vote counts.
Corruption will just die a natural death .
This can be achieved in less than six months as a President.
Politics › Re: One-term Presidency Is Political Strategy: Arewa Forum Rejects Obi's Pledge by Walai(m): 11:58am On Aug 04, 2025
By merely reforming INEC and electoral laws, via making automatic electronic transmission of any single vote cast compulsory under the constitution, 90% of the criminal structures will be dismantled and corrupt politicians retired.
FYI, politicians build structures for one reason, to manipulate electoral outcomes.

omenka:
Retiring old corrupt politicians how? By denying them their right to participate in politics or what? Do you people even listen to yourselves talk? Is it democracy or dictatorship you guys are talking about?
Politics › Re: One-term Presidency Is Political Strategy: Arewa Forum Rejects Obi's Pledge by Walai(m): 8:04am On Aug 04, 2025
Nope, a President that wants to work will simply dismantle the structures holding the country down, retire old corrupt politicians and then install his successor that will carry on with his agenda. Four years is more than enough to achieve it, Jerry Rawlings did it in Ghana remember

seunmsg:
Beyond the politics, what exactly can any president achieve in four years ? A president gets sworn in on 29th May of the election, he has to set up his government and he’s going to struggle with this for another 3-6 months. Even at that, he inherits a budget he knows absolutely nothing about from the former president and by law, he has to implement it.

Then there are various governors, senators, Reps and powerful political figures with diverse interests to deal with. By the end of the second year, political coalitions start springing up and politics has to take the center stage again. Boom, it’s four years and nothing much has changed.

It took Lee Kuan Yew 31 years to set Singapore on the path of sustained economic development. Paul Kagame has been president of Rwanda for the past 25 years and he’s still president because Rwanda is still not there yet.

So, anyone telling you all he needs to perform magic and turn a big, economically challenged, infrastructurally decayed, ethnically disunited and religiously divided Nigeria to Dubai in four years is a liar. It is the height of political desperation. It’s even more funny because this same guy had 8 years to turn a small, ethnically and religiously homogeneous Anambra around but left the state worse than he met it.

I understand you and the person you quoted belong to the same agbadorian camp and just pulling a trick on us. In military, we call it smokescreen attack but involving Obi with your propaganda will backfire explosively, that I assure you.

AMINDA:
Atiku will not step down for anybody. You can go do your worst. You are scared of a party primary but you want to defeat Tinubu at the polls? Did you sign any pact with Atiku or the ADC on power rotation? Were they no Southern candidates on the ballot in 2015 and 2019? Wike was ready to become Atiku's Vice in 2023 despite 8 years of Buhari until he lost out. Don't confuse a political party's internal arrangements with another's. Wike has asked Abure to free the LP for Obi, he's welcome to contest under their banner.

Like I said, Obio/Akpor LGA alone is worth more than $2.5Bn if Nigeria is working.
The Trans Amadi Industrial estate alone full of Multi-national oil and Engineering companies back in the days generates more employment than Nigeria is currently generating today.
I know you haven't stepped out of your hut before. Life does not start and stop in Osogbo. Travel out and see.

Politics › Re: 2027: ‘without Peter Obi, Coalition Is Doomed To Fail’ – Okon Lagos by Walai(m): 1:21pm On Aug 02, 2025
Atiku belongs to the old order, he should stand aside and support Obi. Atiku should play the role of elder statesman. History will always be fair to him.
As for Soludo, he can't lace the shoe of PO in leadership. Obi paid the price and stabilized Anambra state, that's why Soludo is even able to govern on a platform built by Obi himself.
You genz guys don't understand the stat of things in Anambra before Obi. I'm talking of a state where a sitting Governor was kidnapped right inside government house. A very tough state full of billionaires and cabals.

Zocalite:
You are talking about 2002 & 2010, this is 2025, is someone like soludo not doing well

Why don't you want him to become president?

I can tell you that your obcession mixed with tribalism is your fuel

As it stands today the enemy is apc & tinubu, they have to go by 2027, if you don't understand that, the self destruct of 2023 will happen again.

Atiku & obi must team up

I was on ground in between 2002 when Obi predecessor Mbadinuju was in office and 2010 when Obi ruled Anambra not just as a private citizen but a barrack boy. Na we know wetin dey on ground bro. Obi is the best suited to solve our current issues. I was among the persons as at 2019 that was attacking Obi for vying for Atiku VP instead of contesting.
Obi hold the cards to solving our current problems.

Zocalite:
That is what people said about buhari

They said even of he presents NEPA bill as certificate they will vote for him

What's the fundamental reason you will vote for obi not just follow follow

If tinubu had done well people would have forgotten about obi
Politics › Re: It Is No Longer A Secret” – Yunusa Speaks On Peter Obi Returning To PDP by Walai(m): 9:49am On Aug 02, 2025
Obi won Rivers and Benue squarely and his vote was suppressed heavily in Lagos.
I don't want to talk about what happened in the North.
If I were you I will just respect myself and stop arguing blindly. Even bulaba inner circle knows all this that's why they are attacking Obi they claimed came third instead of Atiku.

Nope, it's not the same. PDP hold the cards in the Senate in 2015. While APC was running around looking for how to solve the problem, Saraki quickly struck a deal with PDP and the rest is history.

CTAYLOR:
Wike wasn't the first to do it.
Ike ekweremadu did it, being deputy senate president under APC senate president. He was neither here no there until his setup fully matured and Elizabeth people took him to prison...
