lymelyte: I have updated to 10.2.1803.. I tried viber both old and new version and nothing worked.what do I do?
I'm on 10.2.1.1055 and I just installed instagram a few minutes ago

Mystiqme: Are you serious about this? No need to sideload again! Wow!
yep..currently, the latest leaked OS allows installation of .apk files directly without the need to convert to a .bar and sideload

once its released officially, everybody will e able to just grab android files and install

moshoodn: Thanks a lot Walcolm.

Cool and matured thread this is.

Looks like I'll settle for the Q10 cos on proper review I found the Q5 battery is non removable and it has no HDMI port.
yeah, you can go for the Q10...the Q5 has non removable battery but that's not a show stopper at all....it has a 2180mAh battery and who uses HDMI cables these days when you can connect to your TV wirelessly with Wifi Direct and Miracast? grin

anitank: Google Chrome Extensionhuh Phew!!
Well I went to the link on page 0, searched for Instagram and Temple Run, clicked download and that was it. When I used my phone search app however, I found the two as files but it never opens. Didn't know i'm supposed to do any other thing to get them working
Loooolllllll

That link is for downloading the bar file. You now need to side load the bar file for them to work

With the update in the works right now, side loading will no longer be necessary because BlackBerry 10 will be able to install those types of file directly

moshoodn: Thanks a lot bro.

How about battery life and OS upgrade issues of the 10 & 5?
battery is not a problem and OS Upgrade is also not an issue...unlike BBOS, BB10 devices all upgrade to the same OS version at the same time

Mystiqme: Hello sir. I don't think this app it's still available on BlackBerry world.
It will show up if your device requires it. Not everyone needs it.

I didn't have to install it myself
PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by walcolm(op): 9:31am On Nov 14, 2013
anitank: Decided to sideload both Instagram and Temple run. Downloads were complete but I can't even find the apps anywhere in my phone not to talk of trying to open it angry angry angry
Lol...probably the installation didn't complete.

Which method do you use for side loading ?

I think the Google Chrome extension method is still the easiest way to do it

Also instagram requires the installation of two versions; the latest version and the one before it. What that means is you need to install the previous version and then install the latest version

moshoodn: Been following this thread...

Nice job Walcolm is doing here.

Please, I'm tired of my BBOS7 and I wanna up to 10.
Z10 as a full touch is outta the options cos I already got a note II.
I'm looking @ Q5 or Q10.

So buddies, please what's your honest recommendation in terms of functionality, upgrades, hardware and most esp battery life.

Thanks a lot.
Q10 is a higher spec compared to Q5 but Q5 is a bargain compared to Q10

Z10 and Q10 have similar spec while Q5 is slightly lower but the pricing of Q10 is still high compared to the Z10

PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by walcolm(op): 7:27am On Nov 13, 2013
are u using the charger that came with the phone?

slow or no charge means the amount of current getting to the battery is low and that could mean faulty charger or there could be something wrong with the connector on the device itself

PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by walcolm(op): 9:45pm On Nov 12, 2013
Lots of people experienced the same thing across networks all over the world

The only explanation I can think of is this, when the update app tries to do an incremental update originally based on your existing installation (568mb) and that attempt fails, the update system then goes for a full update the next time to do a complete and fresh install of the new OS. That's the explanation I can give for the 1gb update
ComputersRe: Swift 4G LTE Is Live by walcolm(m): 6:10pm On Nov 12, 2013
hancock: truth be told their internet speed is decent compared to others. two weeks ago I downloaded batman origins which is about 16.5GB in less than 2 hours cool
Speed is an attitude grin
no one is saying the speed is not decent compared to others...right now i'm downloading a file and its going at 1.6MBps while streaming youtube on an ipad simultaneously

the issue was the LTE speed they are delivering is still not comparable to the best in class elsewhere in the world

lymelyte: Will sideloaded viber work on BlackBerry os 10.2.429 and which version of viber? Because I tried severally on 10.1,it responded with force closed all times.
the first place to start is to update to BB OS10.2, then try to sideload the latest version of Viber available...if that doesnt work, try the version before the latest and see how it pans out
PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by walcolm(op): 1:26pm On Nov 12, 2013
Donvitalis: You've been of immense help to me with your incisive answers. All is set for the arrival of my Z10...thanks once again.
enjoy your Z10...once you buy, update the software to the 10.2 version to benefit from the improvements and get yourself to a solid start in BB10 grin
Car TalkRe: Lagos Restricts Danfo Drivers To 8-Hrs Of Work by walcolm(m): 9:47am On Nov 12, 2013
this is not a well thought through item at all. most drivers have routes that are linked to garages where they load passengers and they have to take turns...most times depending on the volume, the wait can be as long as an hour. this gives them ample time to rest between trips

most commercial bus drivers dont drive for 8hrs at a stretch at all

this will only just fray nerves and aggravate people unnecessarily
ComputersRe: Swift 4G LTE Is Live by walcolm(m): 9:38am On Nov 12, 2013
this thing nor reach abuse nah...besides the fact that something is uncapped doesn't mean it can deliver what its supposed to deliver

the fact that the service is paid for is more than enough appreciation and a good reason why what is promised needs to be delivered

if the network says they are delivering LTE speed, they should deliver LTE speed. we don't need to beg them for it or worship them for delivering mediocre speed in hopes that they will do better
PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by walcolm(op): 8:16am On Nov 12, 2013
Mystiqme: Yes please, I am. I tried to sideload viber twice, but it force closes, that's why I think I need the app.
just go to the link to download the run time and try to install the viber app again...if the particular viber version you're installing is problematic, you might want to try an earlier version
PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by walcolm(op): 8:15am On Nov 12, 2013
Donvitalis: Thanx @walcolm for the elaborate explanation. Please, is the subscription on BB10 different from others and which network is the best for it?
another fantastic differentiator for the BB10 devices and OS is that they can run on any data plan so long as the network provider has not taken specific steps to block them.

in Nigeria, MTN and Etisalat have both taken specific steps to block BB10 devices from running on the normal BIS data plan to force BB10 users on their network to use their more expensive 'BB10' data plan

Glo and Airtel on the other hand allow the regular BIS plan to work on BB10 plan

so to answer your question, the subscription for BB10 devices is not different from the others...you can use any data plan on them. i will suggest you use either glo or airtel...but if you are a MTN or Etisalat person, you will have to use their BB10 data plan
ComputersRe: Swift 4G LTE Is Live by walcolm(m): 9:20am On Nov 11, 2013
obosirow: Ha ha ha, this is not 4G LTE...4G LTE we are talking about over 70mbps even up to 150mbps. Extreme rip off. The bad side is that they will charge you LTE price.
i agree with you its not exactly LTE speed but i think the amount of data they give is not LTE price. like someone said, they doubled the data cap on all their WiMAX plans on the LTE side for the same price
ComputersRe: Swift 4G LTE Is Live by walcolm(m): 9:18am On Nov 11, 2013
ajabi: Pls how much did you pay to swap the Wimax for Swift LTE 4G and wats the procedure?
if you were on a plan that cost more than 7k, then your swap cost is just 5k otherwise it will be about 7k to swap
ComputersRe: Swift 4G LTE Is Live by walcolm(m): 9:17am On Nov 11, 2013
yeah i have not been able to achieve any where near the test the OP posted

the fastest download speed i have seen is actually around 700KBps

PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by walcolm(op): 9:07am On Nov 11, 2013
Donvitalis: Ported? I could do with a little expatiation please.
the apple ecosystem has a gazillion number of apps available to them on their appstore....the android ecosystem is a jungle of apps allover the place. BB has suffered for the last five years because the hardware was not powerful enough and worse still the OS itself was not powerful enough to run a lot of the apps available for the apple and android ecosystems

that has now changed..BB devices that this thread focuses on have powerful hardware (CPU, GPU and RAM etc) and the BB10 OS is as good as iOS and Android in everything except the number of apps available. Apple and android have almost 1 million apps each in their app store while BB10 has just around 300k in BB world but a great point for the BB10 OS is that it is the only OS that can run Android apps that are converted into what is called a .bar file. what that means for us BB10 users is that more than 70% of the apps available to android users are now available to us pending the time that app developers create a native version

so if you are interested in any particular app and you look in the BB World and you can't find it, just sideload the ported version of it. a prime example is the world famous Instagram that is not yet available for BB10 devices but the android version has been ported (converted to .bar) for sideloading on BB10 devices
