PoliticsALUU4 : Court Frees Seven Accused Persons. by waleadex(op): 8:33am On Mar 01, 2013
After the torrent of public condemnation that greeted the murder of four students of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) last October, some relief came the way of seven out of the 18 of the accused persons being prosecuted for the crime.

A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Port Harcourt yesterday discharged the seven accused persons for want of evidence of complicity in the crime.

The four students -- Tekena Elkanah, Toku Lloyd, Chiadika Biringa and Ugonna Obuzor -- were murdered  by a mob at Omuokiri, Aluu in October last year which had accused them of being armed robbers caught by the community’s vigilante group.

The claim became controversial as other versions of what actually happened came out. The murdered students were said to have gone to demand the payment of a debt owed one of them from a man. The man was said to have raised false alarm, claiming that the students were robbers.

The community, it was said, had suffered frequent harassment by armed robbers. The news of the arrest of the alleged armed robbers soon drew out the entire community and in no time, the four students were at the village square after the verdict of guilt had been passed on them by the traditional ruler of the community.

In a brazen manner that showed disregard for the sanctity of human life, the four students were clubbed to death, after which they were set ablaze. Onlookers’ video recorded the bestial act and posted same on the internet. In no time, the story and the gory pictures went viral, drawing global condemnation.
Using the footages from the circulated video recordings, the principal culprits, including the paramount ruler of Omuokiri-Aluu, Alhaji Hassan Welewa, were arrested. Since then, they have been standing trial for the crime.

When the accused persons appeared in court last December, the trial Chief Magistrate, Emma Woke of Court I, referred the file to the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice and adjourned the matter until February 28.

At the resumed hearing yesterday, the chief magistrate discharged seven of the 18 accused persons after reading the advice of the DPP.

Those discharged include the only female accused person, Cynthia Chinwo, George Nwadei, Ekpe Daniel, Gabriel Ochi, Endurance Edet, Lucky Agwurum, and Finebone Jeffrey, aka Soso.

The chief magistrate said from the advice dated January 25, the seven persons were arrested and charged to court based on mere suspicion, adding that no prima facie case of murder had been established against them.

“It is a trite law that suspicion, no matter how strong, cannot take place of legal proof without concrete evidence to substantiate it, and as such, they were victims of circumstance and, therefore, charging and prosecuting them will be an exercise in futility,” Woke ruled.

But many have raised the question whether or not those so freed by the chief magistrate were actually innocent or they were beneficiaries of police’ poor prosecutorial competence.

The magistrate further said there were seven other suspects who had been arrested, granted police bail, but were yet to be charged to court on the matter. He said no case had also been established against them and ordered that they be discharged too.

Woke, however, said the DPP advice did not recommend that a case of murder should be preferred against Welewa, Okoghiroh Endurance, Ozioma Abajuo and Chigozie Evans Samuel. But rather, they are to be arraigned for “neglect to prevent a felony.”
He disclosed that the DPP was preparing more charges against the 11 remaining accused persons.

“Your original case file will be retained to enable us file information with proof of evidence for the avoidance of doubt, against Lawal Segun, ex-Sergeant Lucky Orji, Ikechukwu Louis Amadi, aka Kapoon, David Chinasa Ogbada, Abiodun Yusuf, Joshua Ekpe, Abang Cyril, Alhaji Hassan Welewa, Okoghiroh Endurance, Ozioma Abajuo and Chigozie Evans Samuel in the Port Harcourt High Court,” he said.

It is hoped that prosecution will be speedy and diligent, if nothing else, to serve the cause of justice for both the memory of the dead and their family members who are yet hurting from the tragic loss.

PoliticsHis Dream - As Jonathan Resigns! by waleadex(op): 8:32pm On Feb 24, 2013
Fellow Nigerians...
Surrender is not defeat.
I do not know how to start this, but I have started it and indeed starting is what matters. There's always a first time and this is the first time, it is not just going to be the first time in Nigeria, but Africa.

Few years ago, I was just an ordinary me, gradually by the twist of fate, destiny and whether we believe it or not, by God--I became deputy governor, soon I was governor and then I was vice president, and I soon became acting president.

I recall too well, all the goodwill, all the efforts, the save Nigeria group, the human and my apologies inhuman rights community who fought the cabal and then without shoes despite the irregularities you voted me overwhelmingly and I became your president.

You would note this is my first time acknowledging that Jega's INEC wasn't perfect but I still won.

I have always had Nigeria at heart, over 160million of you. But what could I have done, with moles everywhere, a party like the PDP, and with opposition like (need I mention), all willing to sell the soul of this nation for a mere spoonful of porridge.

I am the least the problem of Nigeria. I agree that I am your president, but the truth is that you are the problem. Yes, Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria...

In the few years I have been president. I have seen things, I have seen how the fertilizer cartel operates, I have watched on as Boko Haram ravages the North, because of a few and the price we have paid and keep paying for long time neglect of our people.

Each Wednesday I have supervised all sorts of contract awards, not once have I seen an Ibo in my cabinet fight a Muslim or an Hausa man fight a Christian for contracts hardly executed and by companies acting as fronts for same people that criticize me.

It hurts me as I address you knowing I cannot make the refineries work, I cannot, because it is not about subsidies but rather thousands of illegal refineries run by big shots in the Niger Delta and the need for billions to keep the party running.

I have been your president even when my spoken English was terrible or my explanation incomprehensible. However our problems are beyond all I have said and haven't said in my media chats or interview with Amanpour or whoever that pours.

As I speak to you, I see a nation that is beautiful, one not just with potential but is indeed living its potential. A Lagos living its 'eko oni baje' axiom and Kano living its potential. One in which we 'co-epted' we 36 states competed and co-operated.

I do not know so much about state police, indigene/citizenship rights and all those constitutional matters. But I know that we need a National Assembly that is indeed national by its schedules and the job it does not by the billions of naira it earns for doing little.

As your president I can barely look you all my dear Nigerians in the face and say I have worked or my ministers, advisors and assistants, either the special ones or the senior ones. We have failed or at best done little.

It remains a painful journey...every day I go through past files at the villa. I wonder what went wrong and how we just can't get it right. My immediate boss Yar'adua had good intentions; Obasanjo too had good visions, even the military with all the 'fellow Nigerian speeches' meant well for Nigeria. But why are we here...

Here where my wife is compared to Michelle Obama, here, where I painfully read same boring templates condoling families because people won't do their jobs.

Managing a police that hates its own, an army that cannot even help during floods or is it a custom service simply serving itself. Despite all the funds approved for the immigration I can't begin to tell us, about illegal entry points or illegal immigrants.

Like you all, I love Nigeria. It's our only nation. We want it to work and it can work. We need purposefully leadership, not promissory notes by a conglomeration by whatever name and make-up.

My party may not be able to offer it, but only Nigerians can offer it, we have the ability but as I speak to you all. My question is are you ready, do we as a people want to make change and are we going to shift for it to happen or we are just going to keep wishing.

It is unfortunate that I could not keep my promises to you all as a people, however I want to tell you it is not just about me, it also about whoever is in charge as your local councillor or local government chairman.

If the tiers of government did their job, I may not have been addressing you all today. If the councillor did his beat, chairman, legislator, minister, or governor was patriotic enough; I would not be the most criticized president.

If our wealthy people would give as little 10%, not that they are under compulsion, if you would obey the traffic rules though you were in a hurry. If you and I would just not be Farouk or Femi, maybe if I had governed and we all govern when given the opportunity on merit, not as Niger Deltan, Fulani, Nupes, Ibos or Yorubas there still maybe hope for Nigeria.

I have a lot to say to us on this once in a lifetime occasion, but really it's tense enough and I don't want to add to an already charged atmosphere...I Abdul-Jonathan Omo-Goodluck Chidiebele hereby resign as president of the federal republic of Ingeria

And all of a sudden, I woke up sweating profusely, it did not happen, I have been dreaming lately since I started taking the local concoction for my malaria, as I could not afford good hospital care. There is hope for Nigeria, as long as we recognize there is a problem. The solution may not be far away, but only time will tell.

Politics30yr Old Lady Nabbed In Kwara For Running Fake Job Agency! by waleadex(op): 11:26am On Feb 24, 2013
KWARA State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 30-year-old woman, Lola Afolayan, for allegedly duping unsuspecting members of the public by operating an illegal employment agency and issuing fake appointment letters.
The suspect, a native of Igbaja in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, who lives at Tanke, Tipper Garage, Ilorin, allegedly claimed to be a civil defence officer and collected money from members of the public.
Speaking with Sunday Tribune in Ilorin at the weekend, the Commandant of the Corps, Mallam Yerima Gana, said the suspect was apprehended following a tip-off.
“At the point of arrest, when she was trying to explain issues, she claimed to have been employed by civil defence corps and that she had been helping others to get their appointment letters.
“Immediately she was arrested, a restricted number called her line and the suspect, Afolayan, confirmed that it was the man who helped her and others in getting the letters.
“Findings also revealed that several fake appointment letters had been issued out to people through Afolayan by the said man. Three of the letters had been recovered from her house while two others were recovered from two victims residing in Omu Aran, Kwara State.
“During investigation, the suspect admitted to have been collecting a sum of N5,000 from each applicant for forms, N2,000 for identity card and N8,500 for appointment letter. Lola Afolayan claimed to have collected the sum of N62,000 altogether”, the Kwara State NSCDC boss said.
Mallam Gana, who said that eight of the victims had been discovered so far, added that they were applicants who reportedly paid about N30,000 each before they were issued the fake appointment letters.

If you must search for devil, dont go searching anywhere he lives in this guy's heart.Imagine what he did,he killed his brother, father and chased mother out of the house.

Crime Guard gathered that the deceased only returned from an official trip to Port Harcourt at about 11pm Tuesday.Although, the late Olawale was based in Port Harcourt,Rivers State. But his mission to his family’s house as reliably gathered, was to settle a score between his elder brother and mother.

Neighbours who referred to Biodun as a terror in the area, alleged that he was also responsible for the death of his father two years ago.He was alleged to have poisoned his father’s food in order to take over his three-bedroom bungalow as inheritance.

After his father’s death,Biodun reportedly chased his mother and siblings out of the main building, giving them the two shops in front of the house.

CelebritiesDarey Quizzed Over $500,000 Paid To Kim Kardashian. by waleadex(op): 4:00pm On Feb 23, 2013
Following her 45-minute appearance at Dare Art Alade’s ‘Love like a movie’ Valentine show recently held at the convention centre of Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, criticism has trailed the rationale for paying popular American actress, Kim Kardashian the sum of $500,000 dollars.

Report has it that after some minutes on the red carpet and the pre-event dinner with some high profile guests, Kim reportedly appeared only for 45 seconds to speak to the cheering crowd before ‘vanishing’. Shortly after arriving her base, the 32-year-old tweeted: “Just landed back home! 20 hrs of flying. No big deal.” However, most entertainment loving Nigerians are not finding her 45-minute appearance with that sum of money paid her funny.

The social media has been awash with derogatory remarks from people on various sites hurling insults on both the organizers,Kim Kardashian and the financier of the concert. Some of which are too offensive to be printed. But one of the attendees explained that the invectives at the American actress and the organisers of the show are uncalled for.

FamilyRe: Bed-wetting Beyond Age 13: Natural Or A Problem? by waleadex(op): 6:46am On Feb 20, 2013
greatgod2012: yes, slimyem is absolutely right, its indiscipline......how can a 13yrs old child still be bedwetting.........indiscipline on d part of d parent and on d part of d child.
There are two types of bedwetting.....
1. Primary or natural bedwetting.
2. Secondary bedwetting.
When its primary, it means d child has never for once stopped bedwetting, regardless of d age, so, if d subject of this thread has never stopped bedwetting before, then its natural/primary.
Its secondary if d subject has stopped bedwetting for at least 6months before, only to start bedwettimg again........this is what we "africans" or let me say "yorubas" usually called "afise" ie unnatural or problematic bedwetting.
In d first case, it means d brain of d subject is growing slowly, ie, d level of his maturity is relatively lower than that of his/her peers.....or as a result of small bladder capacity.....in that case, d parent has work to do to help d child stop bedwetting.......like monitoring d child of his intake of liquids, after 6pm, let d child have his dinner by 6pm, with little liquid, and anytime after 7pm, no more liquid again, and d part of d parent is to ensure that they wake him up consistently, may be every 12am, 2am and 5am everyday, so that, his body system will get used to d time, and will have to wake by himself to ease himself.
In d secondary bedwetting, a doctor need to be consulted.
May God help us all.
Thank you!
