In Nigeria of today where almost dead vehicles ply the roads forcefully and where every household has a generator due to bad supply of electricity, one has to be very honest that an average Nigerian will find it very difficult to avoid encountering Carbon-monoxide (CO). To a layman it is simply called a deadly gas. Carbon monoxide is very poisonous gas. It is a colourless and odourless gas and hence its presence cannot be detected immediately. When inhaled, carbon monoxide readily combines with the haemoglobin of our blood. Haemoglobin, as you know, helps in carrying oxygen from longs to the tissues. Oxygen combines with haemoglobin to form oxy-haemoglobin. Similarly, CO combines with hemoglobin to form carboxyhaemoglobin. The affinity of CO for haemoglobins much more (about 200 times) than that of oxygen. In the presence of CO, the oxygen carrying capacity of the hemoglobin decreases. The deficiency of oxygen in blood may cause headache, dizziness, cardiac and respiratory problems and even death. Because of this reason, it is dangerous to sleep in a closed room with a coke fire burning inside because burning of coke in an insufficient supply of oxygen produces a lot of carbon monoxide that can cause poisoning. Familiar Sources : Carbon monoxide is a by-product of combustion, present whenever fuel is burned without enough air (oxygen). It is produced by common home appliances, such as gas or oil furnaces, gas refrigerators, gas clothes dryers, gas ranges, gas water heaters or space heaters, fireplaces, charcoal grills, and wood burning stoves. Fumes from automobiles and gas-powered lawn mowers may also contain carbon monoxide and can enter a home through walls or doorways if an engine is left running in an attached garage. Other sources include fire places, industrial processes, cigars, smoldering fires, etc. Fortunately the CO combusts if it reaches another part of the combustion zone if the temperature is still high enough and there is sufficient oxygen. Note: With cigars and cigarettes the CO produced is inhaled by the smoker and combines with the smoker's blood to form carboxyhemoglobin. This removes the CO from second hand smoke. Conclusively, let us try as much as possible to avoid CO.

Why do we always want to be like the Americans? It's going to take Nigeria many generations to be like America of today. However, what would you have thought came into the school owner's mind by giving this name to the school? http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=361631863946509&set=a.220003301442700.43914.184759784967052&type=1&relevant_count=1

Since I joined Nairaland in 2010,I have so far learnt how to tolerate all kinds of people so much.Honestly, for this "TOLERANCE" I gain from Nairaland, the site remains my no.1 web. Before that year (2010) it was hard to accept criticisms or harsh words from people, I would always respond to make my points clear. Joining Nairaland,I discover some members are on the site to have fun and most are to learn. Till now, sometimes you get amazed by the way some members pass insults of various magnitudes to each other;even to Seun Osewa. I then realised that we all ca never be the same, never. But what keeps us together as friends,as hunbands and wives,as colleagues is TOLERANCE. What is that one special thing you have gained from Nairaland? Have fun! |

Kenny Ogungbe on why he didn't attend 2face Idibia's Dubai wedding 2face started his solo career with Kenny Ogungbe's music label, Kennis Music, back in 2004. They parted ways amicably a few years later...or so we thought! When asked by an Encomium reporter why he didn't attend 2face Idibia's Dubai wedding, Mr Ogungbe replied: "I don't think it is something you should ask me. Go and ask 2face why Primetime and Kennis Music were not in attendance. I am too old to start joining issues with people” http://lindaikeji..com/2013/04/kenny-ogungbe-on-why-he-didnt-attend.html Perhaps there is still an open sore yet to be healed?

Reports have it that a 2.4bn Naira monthly contract has been awarded by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration to the Dr Frederick Fasehun faction of the Oodua People’s Congress, to “police and protect oil pipelines in South West Nigeria against vandalism”. In his reaction the Head of Afenifere Renewal Group. Hon Wale Osun describes the contract as “a gift by Jonathan to Fasehun and others so as to break the rank of the Yoruba in 2015″ Wale Osun condemned the resort to bribing militant groups rather than empowering security agencies established by law. http://www.sayit247.com/2013/04/fg-awards-n2-4-billion-naira-oil-pipeline-protection-contract-to-dr-fredrick-fasehun-opc/ |

This argument came up this afternoon and I find it so lively.Honestly,it's a tough question to answer for me.Well,If I was a actor I would allow my sister to marry my actor friend since I wouldn't keep a "bad guy" as a friend. What about you? |
aadetoyin: I once made a timetable but sincerely I don't use it. I just cook what comes to mind or what I feel like eating. Hubby rarely chooses a meal. And when he does it is pasta or he is craving for pizza or shawama.Honestly,it's hard to follow that food time-table of a thing.Of course,Mon - Fri men are so busy and won't have time to be choosy. It's alright I am learning, |
greatgod2012: i thank God for him, he rarely complain, hes always okay with me and whatever i prepare, though, sometimes it happens, but because hes not the complaining type, i would gladly prepare whatever he wants for him, and sometimes too, he suggest fast food, he would have called me b4 he closes from work to inform me not to prepare dinner, of which when he comes back, just pick all of us straight to an eatery...........but sincerely, he hardly say that. I think im just lucky to be married to such a man, the same way he claims to be lucky to marry someone like me.Hmmm interesting! |
bebe2: its me o, i decide, i cook, i serve. my oga go always say anything and that pisses me off. That's nice.... |
greatgod2012: Its the food time table, all of us are used to it, we all know what to eat next, except in few cases, may be, due to illness, one of us may not feel like eating what is prepared or when we have visitor, and we just have to prepare what the visitor may want to eat and which may lead to deviating from what is already slated on the food timetable. We tried using the time-table but it just didn't work in our own case but all the same,I think it helps a lot.But how will you feel if baba comes back and say 'mi o je ounje ti inu time-table yen' ? |
degamonn: who decides in ur home?Oga mi,na the kids o...but it will stop soon sha ![]() |

I know some families are so rich that anyone can exactly eat what he/she wants to eat. They have the resources to do all that. But,the aim of this post is targetted at the "middle class or below".We all know how unfriendly our economy is and how every family in that category manages what they earn.No salary earner spends lavishly; everyone is frugal. Now to my question,in your family where perhaps multiple cooking is not done, who decides what food to eat for breakfast and dinner(of course we know everyone is out in the afternoon except weekends)? Is it the father?...the mother?...the kids?...or your visitors? |

"B1"......his shadow is clearly seen! |
greatgod2012: oh yes! We are getting there, so, if i have o boy of 10+ of age, is it normal for the boy to admire the mum or not, just this afternoon, i got dressed for an owambe party, and my first son came and wispered in my ears........"mum, you are just too beautiful"..........is that bad?, though, hes just 6+, but im sure if dad was at home, he would have done as usual............leave my wife alone, when you have yours, admire her.......blah, blah, blah, i know its all joke, but is that type of joke normal?Madam, like I said earlier you bubby is only joking when that comes to play.I am also sure he says that to let you know how much he admires you and what length he can go to protect his wife from the 'mennnnn' outside..... ah ah ah! |
@OP,I won't totally agree with you that men are envious of their kids. Some fathers are men and some are boys.Like in your case,I am very confident yours is a man...lol.I am sure he's not envious of the kids but perhaps he's the type who is very lively. But the age, especially of the male,is very important. At a certain age of a son a father should be able to decide wether to caution his boy playing with his mum's body parts or not,or admiring his mum's dress especially when the mum is curvaceous....winks!!! As for me,a father of four,my son(2yr+) is the last child and I don't complain when he fiddles with his mum's body but as soon as he attains say age 6/7 I will surely stop him so as not be become an habit for him.On the part of his mum buying stuffs for him,I am not envious but jealous cus I was nt 'born with silver spoon in my mouth'-know what I mean?Ok! Besides,on the part of my daughters age 15yrs,12yrs(twins),I only appreciate them cus they are beautiful. On few occasions,I get jealous only when I see them all together with their mum discussing especially silently.I can just go on and on and on. So,as a father,I am not envious but can be jealous as stated above. |
A quarter of firms that are members of a leading U.S. business lobby in China have been victims of data theft, a report by the group said on Friday, amid growing vitriol between Beijing and Washington over the threat of cyber attacks. Twenty-six percent of members who responded to an annual survey said their proprietary data or trade secrets had been compromised or stolen from their China operations, the American Chamber of Commerce in China report said. "This poses a substantial obstacle for business in China, especially when considered alongside the concerns over IPR (intellectual property rights) enforcement and de facto technology transfer requirements," the Chamber said. A U.S. computer security company, Mandiant, said in February a secretive Chinese military unit was likely behind a series of hacking attacks that targeted the United States and stole data from more than 100 companies. That set off a war of words between Washington and Beijing. U.S. Representative Dutch Ruppersberger said last month American companies suffered estimated losses in 2012 of more than $300 billion due to trade secret theft, much of it the result of Chinese hacking. China says the accusations lack proof and that it is also a victim of hacking attacks, more than half of which originate from the United States. Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei called the survey a "completely irresponsible action". "We hope the relevant side doesn't politicize financial and trade problems, does not exaggerate the so-called issue of online leaks and does more conducive things for China and the United States," Hong told reporters. The Chamber's survey was conducted among 325 members across China late last year, before the release of Mandiant's report. Only 10 percent of companies in the survey said they would use China-based cloud computing services, with most citing cyber security concerns as a reason. Blocked Internet searches in China had impeded business for 62 percent of respondents. U.S. officials have pressed China to address Internet attacks and cyber spying against American companies. U.S. President Barack Obama raised hacking concerns in a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping earlier in March. A recent assessment by U.S. intelligence leaders said for the first time cyber attacks and cyber espionage had supplanted terrorism as the nation's top threat. INVESTMENT STAGNATION Most firms expressed optimism about the business outlook in China, with many reporting higher margins for their China units. But companies gave lower expectations for investment and cited rising labour costs as a top concern. Perceptions that China's investment environment is stagnating are increasing, according to the survey. "Members ... have not felt over the last four or five years that there have been commercially significant positive changes in the business environment or the investment environment," Chamber president Christian Murck told reporters. "When you have an economy which is making a transition to a market economy, but which is not yet there, there is a feeling that if you are not moving forward with an indicated path of future policy that you are effectively moving backward," he said at a briefing on the survey. The Chamber's survey also cited a steep rise in concerns over IPR enforcement, with 72 percent of respondents saying enforcement was ineffective or totally ineffective, an increase of 13 percentage points over last year. Perceptions that technology transfer was increasingly a requirement for access to China's market also jumped 10 points to 37 percent, the Chamber said, with higher rates of concern reported in the aerospace, automotive, chemical in information technology sectors.

This is why people always preach that ladies should be careful with their craze for materialism, but some people just don't want to listen. Sleeping with strange rich men for money is very dangerous. Three corpses of female students whose heads have been beheaded was thrown from a Range Rover sport jeep at Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan road on Monday morning by men suspected to be their Sugar Daddies. One of the girl is fair in complexion with UNILAG identity card (Yetunde Ajao) inside her hand bag. The second girl is an OOUITE student (Oyindamola Esan) also fair in complexion and kind of tall. The last girl is short, plumpy and dark [as seen in the photo above]. Anyone who knows them should kindly notify their friends or family members. I hear it's a gory sight.

Tragedy struck, Sunday, in the creek of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State as a 200 level student of the state-owned Niger Delta University was killed in a boat mishap. The deceased identified simply as Stella, was one of the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission ad-hoc staff for last Saturday local government election in the state. It was learnt that the deceased, a student of the Department of Political Science, met her untimely death around Famgbe in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state. She alongside other ad-hoc staff were returning from Akassa on the Atlantic fringe in Brass Local Government Area after the poll when tragedy struck. The boat in which they were travelling was said to have capsized a few minutes to their destination which was the Yenagoa jetty. While the other occupants of the ill-fated boat, said to have worn their life jackets survived the accident, the deceased who turned out to be the only casualty was not putting on her own vest when the boat capsized. Chairman of the state Independent Electoral Commission, Chief Blessing Izagara, confirmed the development. Izagara described the incident as unfortunate coming on the heels of an election, adjudged as free, fair and most peaceful in the history of the state. He noted with sadness that the death of Stella was avoidable as it was not as a result of fight between one party or the other but due to carelessness. His words, “the life was lost as a result of carelessness. They were given life jacket in order to safe guard their lives, but she refused to put on her own. When the driver lost control, the boat capsized and she lost her life.” |
These incredible pictures show the remarkable work of God through surgeons who removed a parasitic twin from a boy dubbed, 'The Eight-Limbed Boy'. Deepak Paswaan was taunted and called a 'devil' and 'freak' as he was born with a parasitic twin jutting from his stomach. Born in Bihar, India, Deepak spent his young life carrying around the under-developed legs and arms of what would have been his twin in a normal pregnancy. But , top doctors at the Fortis Hospital Bangalore agreed to operate on Deepak for free, as his parents, Indu and Veeresh, couldn't afford the whopping £50,000 it would have cost. See loads of Picture on the boy before and after Surgery... http://www.tundeola.com/2013/03/shocking-boy-living-with-his-twin-in.html
