The State Security Service (SSS) says it is hunting down Nigerians railing against the President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime. The SSS revealed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja. Recently, the SSS has been hunting down vocal critics of Mr Buhari, including journalists (like Agba Jalingo) in the name of national security in a bid to silence them. There have been various reports of individuals “invited” by the agency and left to languish in “underground cells.” Last week, the secret police held Usman Bugaje for criticising Mr Buhari’s handling of insecurity across the country. Mr Bugaje, a politician and scholar, was held by state agents after appearing on AIT. The scholar added his voice to growing concerns amongst Nigerians about insecurity. The politician had previously condemned Mr Buhari’s failure to tackle the economy, as well as his sectional appointments. Last February, the SSS arrested an aide to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje hours after he criticised Buhari. The aide, Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, was taken into custody shortly after his Twitter post condemning the abduction of Zamfara schoolgirls went viral online. “It is unfortunate that those in the forefront of this are respectable individuals who should be patriotic. The SSS accused political and religious elites opposed to Mr Buhari’s regime of plotting to disintegrate the country. “They are reminded that even though democracy offers free speech, it does not give room to reckless pronouncements capable of undermining security. Referring to them as self-centred individuals and groups, the secret agency called on the critical elites to stop engaging in acts inimical to the peace sovereignty of one Nigeria. https://www.gazettengr.com/weve-been-tracking-down-buharis-critics-to-come-and-repeat-their-public-comments-sss/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost

“On sighting the security men, the suspects ran into the bushes, and the security men recovered the cows which have been brought to Gusau.” Governor Bello Matawalle says the Zamfara government, in partnership with security agents, recovered over 300 kidnapped cows on Saturday night alone. Mr Matawalle disclosed this on Sunday night when he played host to media practitioners and executives to break the Ramadan fast at his residence in Gusau. “We received intelligence about the movement of suspected armed cattle rustlers around Kuraji village on the outskirts of Gusau, and we soon mobilised security personnel to the place. “We shall soon make an announcement for the rightful owners to come and identify their animals so that they can be released to then,” explained the governor. https://www.gazettengr.com/amid-dozens-abducted-by-bandits-security-rescues-300-cows/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development says it plans to involve the non-governmental organisations in the future distribution of palliatives because governors have refused to explain how they distributed the food items in their states. During the #EndSARS protests various food items designated as COVID-19 palliatives were uncovered in warehouses across the country with many Nigerians breaking in and carting away the items. Sadiya Umar Farouq, humanitarian affairs minister, said this at a meeting with Senate Committee on Special Duties on Thursday in Abuja. Ms Farouq, who lamented that the ministry had yet to receive reports from states on how the COVID-19 palliatives were shared, said the ministry planned to re-strategise for effective coordination. “We have not received any report from the state governors on how they distributed these food items. This has made us have a rethink and re-strategise to see how we can engage other bodies, especially the NGOs, in subsequent interventions by the ministry. “Since COVID-19 activities are still ongoing, the ministry is devising ways to ensure delivery of palliatives to the most vulnerable groups,” she disclosed. Ms Farouq explained that N2,457,500,000 was released to the ministry regarding the COVID-19 rapid response, and it was part of the allocation of N32,457,000,000 allocated from which N30 billion has yet to be released. “This sum is meant for the payment of N5,000 each to one million vulnerable urban individuals for six months,” she said. On the school feeding programme during the lockdown, Ms Farouq said, “The government had directed that we continue the feeding programme even while they were at home. We had data of where these children live, and so the aim of the programme was realised.” According to the minister, the pilot experiment was conducted in FCT, Lagos, and Ogun. However, because of some challenges, it had to be suspended pending review. https://www.gazettengr.com/governors-refused-to-explain-how-they-distributed-palliatives-fg/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost |

Global Terrorism Index: Nigerian Fulani militants named as fourth deadliest terror group in world. Global Terrorism Index: Nigerian Fulani militant herdsmen named as fourth deadliest terror group in world Only Boko Haram, Isis, and al-Shabab were deemed deadlier than the little-known militant group from West Africa The fourth deadliest known terrorist group has been named as the Fulani militant group operating in Nigeria and parts of the Central African Republic. The little-known group, formed of individuals from the semi-nomadic pastorial ethnic group Fula people existing across several West African nations, has seen a dramatic escalation of its activities in the past year. Little is known about the group, despite the high toll they are inflicting on local civilian populations, but it is supposed the increased instability in CAR and Nigeria - despite some government successes against militant groups - has facilitated the group's expansion. As much as 92 per cent of their attacks target private citizens, reflecting the group’s primary concern over the ownership of farmland. Each attack claims an average of 11 lives, with the largest known in April 2014 killing as many as 200 people after a group of the militants targeted community leaders and residents during a meeting in central province Zamfara. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/global-terrorism-index-nigerian-fulani-militants-named-fourth-deadliest-terror-group-world-a6739851.html%3famp
