Gunmen Abduct Benue University Students An unconfirmed number of students from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi have been abducted at gunpoint “by unknown persons”, the institution confirmed on Monday. “The University has reported the incident to the police and all relevant security agencies,” a statement signed by the university’s Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations Unit (IPPR), Mrs Rosemary Waku, said. “The University has not heard anything from the students or their captors since the unfortunate incidence took place.” The police has also confirmed the abduction. “The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command has ordered a full-scale investigation into the case,” a statement from police spokesperson, Anene Sewuese, said. The Benue abduction comes barely a week after about 20 students were abducted from Greenfield University in Kaduna. Three of the Greenfield University students were found dead on Friday. https://www.channelstv.com/2021/04/26/just-in-gunmen-abduct-benue-university-students/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

Their case is confidential - Presidency Senator Ali Ndume, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, has called on the Buhari led-Administration to expose and prosecute over 800 Bureau De Change operators and politicians recently arrested for allegedly funding the activities of Boko Haram insurgency in the country. During his interview with newsmen, Ndume, who is representing Borno South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, also demanded an open trial of all the suspects. Recall that last month, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said the Nigerian Government had arrested some Bureau De Change operators who were facilitating the transfer of money to Boko Haram terrorists. “Can you imagine that apart from some politicians, over 500 Bureau De Change operators are also involved in funding the Boko Haram? “ The presidency is already saying their case is confidential. What is confidential about it?,” Ndume lamented. He however said “The presidency should expose and prosecute the identities of all the BDC operators so far arrested and carry out their trial in public. Ndume’s Senatorial district is currently under the siege of the Boko Haram terrorists, in Yobe State. https://saheliantimes.com/expose-bdc-operators-funding-boko-haram-ndume-urges-fg/?amp&__twitter_impression=true

Farmers in Ekiti State have raised concern over their inability to go to farms, due to attacks and destruction of crops by herdsmen. A traditional ruler, the Alajowa of Ijowa, Ijowa Ekiti, Oba Emmanuel Omopariola, during a meeting with the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), lamented that insecurity was one of the major problems facing farmers in the community. He said farmers were unable to recoup the money invested on their farms because cattle usually destroy their farm crops. Omopariola said due to this challenge, farmers in the community no longer plant crops such as maize, sorghum, cassava, and yam. They buy them at exorbitant prices. He appealed to NALDA to work for the benefit of both government and community, adding that the issue of herders invading farms must be addressed. https://www.google.com/amp/s/guardian.ng/news/nigeria/ekiti-we-can-no-longer-go-to-farms-farmers-cry-out/amp

President Muhammadu Buhari’s latest caution to bandits terrorizing Nigerian communities has drawn public backlash. Countless abductions and murder have also been recorded in Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, among others. Yet, the bandits continue to wreak havoc. In his reaction, the President, expected to reiterate his order for a major crackdown, seemed to only threaten the outlaws. “These ordinary criminals should stop pushing their luck too far by believing that the government lacks the capacity to crush them”, he warned. A cross-section of Nigerians were amazed by the warning. They lambasted the President for not doing enough to wipe out banditry. Leye: “You mean you still have extra limit for the killings of innocent citizens?” Julius: “Our president that is always shocked, wants to crush bandits? For how many years?” Shuaibu Gana: “What are you waiting for? The people that are crushing the country, you are still looking for a reason to crush them.” Murtadoh: “Just talking as if he is talking to his kids. I hope the bandits are listening.” Nasri Ebeh: “Stop warning them, crush them all! We lose our men in the Army on daily basis. We have also lost our jet bomber. This should push you to crush them all and safe the country from banditary and bokonism.” https://dailypost.ng/2021/04/23/outrage-as-buhari-threatens-to-crush-bandits-after-several-abduction-murder/

Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi, has absolved the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) of culpability in attacks on police facilities in the South East, noting that the attacks are being carried out by criminals whose key motivation is criminality. There have been attacks on police stations in various states of the South East, which the police had blamed on the IPOB. However, speaking on Channels TV breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Umahi said the group is not responsible for the attacks. The governor who noted that about 95 percent of police officers killed during the attacks are people from the South East, said criminals who carry out the attacks only tag themselves IPOB to play into the prosecution of the group by the federal government. “What is happening now is that some criminals will go and commit crime and say they are IPOB so that they will play into the prosecution of IPOB by the federal government,” Umahi said. “The other day in Ebonyi State, the criminals attacked a police station and carted away arms. The next day, they went to rob with the arms, and fortunately they were caught. So, these are just criminals carrying out these stray.” “we are not forming Ebube Agu to spy on our people Why would we spy on them? We are not intending to spy on them. https://hallmarknews.com/ipob-not-responsible-for-attacks-on-police-facilities-in-south-east-umahi/

The new lodge would provide apartments for the governor. Sangodoyin further revealed that the new lodge would provide apartments for the governor, deputy governor, chalets, fittings, and furniture, “which would be of modern type.” The commissioner added that the government would complete the building project in six months. News Agency of Nigeria reports that Sangodoyin explained that the old lodge was no longer fit for the governor’s use. http://saharareporters.com/2021/04/22/makinde-build-n12bn-governor%E2%80%99s-lodge-abuja
