Students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization Afaka, Kaduna State, have blocked the busy Kaduna Airport Highway over the failure of federal and state governments to rescue the over 39 students of the college abducted by bandits.

Daily Trust reported last week Thursday how the students and parents of the abducted students staged a peaceful protest, demanding the release of the students.

The parents of the abducted students blocked the highway on Monday as part of their efforts to demand for the release of the students 11 days after their abduction.

They called on the government to save their children from the bandits’ den. Daily Trust observed that many travellers were stranded as the students and parents used iron rods to block the road.

It was also observed that soldiers and police vehicles were sighted around the area removing the irons used to block the road.

Mr Friday Sani, who represented the parents at a press briefing conducted in the middle of the highway, said as parents, they were concerned about the health of the abducted students.

He urged the state and federal governments to put more effort in rescuing the students.

Nigeria Records World's 2nd Highest Number Of ISIS Attacks In 81 Days —Report

Gun-wielding fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) had claimed different attacks in Nigeria within the 81 days.

ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), also known as ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) has claimed its fighters carried out 517 attacks around the world between January 1 and March 17.

According to the group, Nigeria is ranked second on the list with 112 attacks.

Other countries listed are Iraq (162), Syria (106), Egypt (30), Afghanistan (68), DRC (18), Niger (9), Pakistan (7), Tunisia (2), Chad (1), Mali (1) and Somalia (1).

Gun-wielding fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) had claimed different attacks in Nigeria within the 81 days.

This comes after the Pentagon warned that ISIS is taking over swathes of Africa like it did in Syria and Iraq with "staggeringly brutal" tactics.

Operations in West Africa include a daylight attack on the convoy of the Governor of Borno state, Babagana Umara Zulum in July 2020 and Governor Samuel Ioraer Ortom in march 2021.

The group has killed thousands and displaced millions in North-Eastern Nigeria.

The Nigerian military has repeatedly claimed that the insurgency had been largely defeated and frequently underplays any losses.

In the past months, soldiers have been targeted by the insurgents, who lay in ambush on their path.

Thousands of soldiers and officers have been reportedly killed since January 2021.

At least 33 soldiers were recently killed when two explosive-laden vehicles rammed into a military convoy in Wulgo.

The suicide bombers were identified as Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and Bana Jundullah. The group also claimed four military vehicles were destroyed.

In February, about 20 soldiers were also killed in Malari, Borno State by the insurgents.

We will hold a massive protest in the east if our checkpoints are closed down..

Officers and men of the Nigeria police have threatened to hold a massive protest in the south east and south south region of the country if checkpoints are shutdown by Nnamdi Kanu..

Some of the officers who spoke in anonymity claimed that the money they got from checkpoints is what they use to support their families as they're not been paid well..

They went on to beg Nnamdi Kanu to shelve the 40 days order given to the police to dismantle all checkpoints.

"I am an officer and I've never killed any IPOB member', this order by Kanu will affect me because they are not paying us well"

Another who spoke to our correspondent said; " 'we are going to hold our own protest if Kanu goes ahead with this order. How does he expect us to survive"? "

Racing Genk's technical director Dimitri De Condé has admitted that it is increasingly likely that Paul Onuachu will bid farewell to the Belgian First Division A side in the summer transfer window.

The Nigeria national teamer has been linked with possible moves to Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic and Olympique Lyonnais but it appears the French Ligue 1 club are in a stronger position financially to sign the striker valued at 17 million euros by transfer market experts.

In 32 matches across all competitions this season, Onuachu has left the pitch without scoring in 12 games, and has totaled 27 goals - his best return since he turned professional.

"Paul is in great demand. He is a unique type and he scores often," De Condé said to Eleven Sports via Voetbal Primeur.

"It is a challenge for us to keep him, but he also has an age that will make it very difficult to keep him on board."

Signed from Danish champions FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2019, Onuachu has a contract with Genk until June 30, 2024.
