Politics / Nigeria at a critical Stage! Break up is imminent. -Tinubu by Warripikine: 4:28pm On Jun 25, 2021 |
He admitted that the country is at a critical stage and should debate whether to remain united as one Nigeria or break up. Tinubu said this at a democracy lecture organised by the Nigerian Youth Congress with the theme “Nigerian Democratic System and Good Governance: The Journey So Far,” in Abuja. “Nigeria seats at a crucial junction. Do we advance by doing what is right or do we settle for what is not so easy? “Our nation’s journey is one of continuous struggles. We have struggled many times, yet never shall we fall. We are Nigerians and shall remain so. Represented by James Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives, Tinubu urged Nigerian youths to work together to solve the nation’s security challenges. This, he said, could be achieved through dialogue and positive engagement with the political elite. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/06/tinubu-advocates-dialogue-rules-out-nigerias-break-up/?amp=1

Politics / Boko Haram Strikes Again! Kills Policemen, Burns UN Facilities, Mock Army! by Warripikine: 4:11pm On Jun 25, 2021 |
Boko Haram Mocks Nigerian Army, Attacks Yobe Community, Kills Policemen, Burns UN Facilities, Others in a statement sighted by SaharaReporters, several policemen were killed during the attack on the community which is 30 km from Damaturu, the state capital. The group mocked the Nigerian army, claiming soldiers refused to leave their military base to defend the town while they operated for many hours. The insurgents also burnt some United Nation facilities, houses and cars in the community. Confirming the incident to SaharaReporters, a military source said, “Yes, it’s true. They attacked the community. They came in different vans and drove straight to the company constructing the 40km Gujba-Mutai Road. “That was where they killed the police officers. I saw two officers though, I was told one member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was killed as well. Then they started burning the company’s heavy-duty machines on the site. “From there, they moved back to the community where they looted the Red Cross and USAID offices and burnt the facilities.” The attack comes a few months after the insurgents stormed a military base in the community, killing several soldiers. Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province, have killed thousands and displaced millions in Northeastern Nigeria. The Nigerian military has repeatedly claimed that the insurgency had been largely defeated and frequently underplays any losses. Hundreds of soldiers and officers have been reportedly killed since January 2021. At least 33 soldiers were recently killed when two explosive-laden vehicles rammed into a military convoy in Wulgo. The suicide bombers were identified as Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and Bana Jundullah. The group also claimed four military vehicles were destroyed. In February, about 20 soldiers were also killed in Malari, Borno State by the insurgents. https://saharareporters.com/2021/06/25/again-boko-haram-mocks-nigerian-army-attacks-yobe-community-kills-policemen-burns-un

Politics / BBC: Buhari Broke his promise to End medical Tourism In Nigeria by Warripikine: 12:54pm On Jun 25, 2021 |
Since the beginning of 2017, President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria has spent more time in the UK for medical treatment than he has in his own country. By seeking treatment abroad, Buhari broke one of his own electoral promises – to end medical tourism He has spent over $1bn (£690m) on foreign medical trips alone, most of which was unnecessary. Not forgetting the cost of parking Buhari’s plane during his spell in London which is estimated at £360,000. That’s equivalent to about 0.07% of Nigeria’s N304 billion budget allocation for health. And there would have been many other heavier costs incurred during his stay. Mr Buhari has failed to lead by example by using Nigerian doctors and facilities, and ensure government officials do not go abroad on "frivolous" medical trips, The UK has more than 3,000 Nigerian-trained doctors, and the US more than 5,000 but he has failed to address the brain drain by improving working conditions and health centres.. 1 Like 1 Share

Local Council Boss Resumes Work Under Mango Tree To Monitor Errant Workers In Rivers He said the aim is to check the attitude of civil servants to their duties while expressing worry over the lack of seriousness often displayed by local government workers. The newly sworn-in Chairman of Emohua local government area of Rivers State, Dr. Chukwudi Julius Lloyd, on Tuesday, resumed duty under a mango tree within the council secretariat. He said the aim is to check the attitude of civil servants to their duties while expressing worry over the lack of seriousness often displayed by local government workers. The chairman, who said he would not be ashamed to learn from experienced fellow local government chairmen, noted that he was not under the tree for too long before they understood that it was the chairman that was sitting there. “I sat under the mango tree deliberately to check egress and ingress of staff. They didn’t know that the chairman was under the mango tree. “The civil servants were just coming in the way they liked. You could see the docility in the civil servants. I wasn’t under the tree for too long before they understood that it was the chairman that was sitting there. http://saharareporters.com/2021/06/22/local-council-boss-resumes-work-under-mango-tree-monitor-errant-workers-rivers

Politics / Federal Government To Suspend Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Others! by Warripikine: 8:10pm On Jun 22, 2021 |
The Nigerian Government has threatened to suspend all social media platforms in the country. The Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated this before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Information, Justice, and Communication on Tuesday at the National Assembly in Abuja while answering questions on the ban on Twitter, a microblogging site. "We want Twitter to be registered first in the country before they can operate," he said. On whether any channel of dialogue had been opened with Twitter, the minister said "we tried to but they rebuffed us. They are not known to us. They are not registered, but we hope we will be able to engage them", as he lamented that the organisation had no investment in Nigeria, but in Ghana, while the target market was Nigeria. "There was no intention of the federal government to stifle free speech in the country. The only reason we suspended Twitter is that it was promoting disunity. Its activities are inimical to the unity of the country," Mohammed insisted. He said the government is considering suspending other social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Google hangout, and others as they have been found to be promoting posts or statements capable of destabilising the country. There was a mild drama when the Convener, Coalition in Defence Of Nigerian Democracy, Ariyo Dare Atoye who was at the venue of the hearing raised his hand to contribute but was ruled out of order and shut down by the Chairman of the Committee, Olusegun Odebunmi. He said the minister was wrong in his presentation, adding that he defended the need for Nigeria to have independent media when he was in the opposition. He wondered how the same person changed overnight to become an advocate of regulated social media. Meanwhile, some of the committee members expressed concern at the decision and action of the executive to suspend Twitter, stating that the country was sliding into totalitarianism. http://saharareporters.com/2021/06/22/twitter-ban-nigerian-government-threatens-suspend-facebook-instagram-whatsapp-others |
