Celebrities › Re: Toke Makinwa Claims Men Are The “real Gold Diggers” In Today’s Relationships by We4all: 3:17pm On Dec 12, 2025 |
SpencerForbes: Yes, there are men who sponge off women, but in the Nigerian context, how many homes can survive that dynamic? How many women can realistically shoulder the full responsibility of a household for more than two years without the man eventually feeling the heat or the home becoming uncomfortable?
Lol...You talk like this because you have no idea of what is happening in most Nigerian homes. If women cannot realistically shoulder full responsibility, why do I see many women hawking all day just to put food on the table, while their lazy husbands drink themselves to stupor or idle away at football centres?
Truth be told, any man who is genuinely happy and comfortable with his wife paying all the bills indefinitely is likely a man who has lost his ambition or purpose.
I like to think that when you describe 'men', you are referring to all categories of men, and not just successful, comfortable or educated men. If not for the few successful men who act responsibly, I hope you know there are many others who have switched roles with their wives.
We need to make a clear distinction here
Basically, a gold digger is someone who gets into a romantic relationship primarily for money or material gain, rather than for love or a genuine connection.
Though your definition of a gold digger is correct , it is broader than you think. A gold digger is someone who relies on another for financial gains without genuine affection for them. So, you can have friends, spouses or even neighbours who are gold diggers.
Most of the men people drag in these conversations didn’t enter the marriage for money.
How would you know that? Did they tell you their intentions while dating? Nowadays, many men marry girls because of their family's status. A girl may come from a modest background, but a guy may marry her because one of her siblings is based abroad. I have seen that play out on many occasions.
They were struck by misfortune—job loss, failed business, or economic downturn.
Being struck by misfortune is not an excuse to become financially dependent on your wife who may also be struggling. The truth is, take away the white collar jobs most Nigerian men have, and watch them amount to nothing. This is because, they are so used to their comfort zones, that they find it difficult to survive after the loss of a job.
So, while male gold diggers definitely exist, we must differentiate them from responsible family men who are just going through a hard season. Lumping them together is unfair.
Have you considered the fact that my post was referring to the irresponsible family men who are lazy, unambitious, and see nothing wrong in depending on their wives? Like I said earlier, even in marriages, there are men who are gold diggers. |

Most of the posters who dropped some comments above me are dumber than I thought. Instead of them to analyse the issue from an unbiased point of view, they have already started throwing insults and calling Toke old just because she made a salient observation. NB: How to know if someone is dumb: By mocking an old person forgetting that old age is inevitable. Back to the discussion. Even among married couples, men are becoming gold diggers. How else can you describe a situation when a man refuses to contribute to the upkeep of the family, and expects the wife to shoulder majority of the bills? So, to all the katagelasticists above me, I hope you know that katagelasticism is a psychological disorder that can degenerate into something serious. Y'all should get some help cos you are already losing it since mocking others give you intense pleasure. |

The movie made the mark and passed all standards of being voted as the best in the year When bandwagons are majorly the ones hyping the product and not connoisseurs. They shouldn't do that rubbish. CBN workers and politicians used COVID-19 loan to cash out. They gave people loans, and ask them to remit between 10 and 50 percent of the loan amount to them.
Instead of investigating how fraudulently the loan was disbursed, they are asking for a waiver to cover their tracks. No wonder Nigeria was described as a fantastically corrupt country. Smh... |

What a careless and annoying statement! Who trained those bandits and how did they become so powerful? Who supply them with arms and how do they bypass security to deliver those arms? These are some of the questions that demand answers.
Unfortunately, this Gumi man is trying to divert from the main issue, and asking the government to negotiate with terrorists. The government should declare war on them and stop treating them with kids gloves. Or better still, they should hire meceneries that will do the job. Saying that the Nigerian army cannot defeat bandits is like saying that we have lost the war against them. |

Nice article. I didn't know her mom was Hausa though. Such an elegant and beautiful woman she was.
No wonder, our legendary Bongos Ikwue couldn't resist her charms, but IBB used his military influence to win her over.
He was so in love that even after she got married to IBB, he dedicated his hit track, 'Oh Maryam' to her. It proved his love was real and not the fake type of love we see these days. |

That Christian push will be pushed. Chai...Who do you this thing? IDP means internally displaced persons. Create a WhatsApp group, hold meetings regularly, share jokes, gossips, news, memes...and ensure everyone participates actively in the group. That will keep the communication alive.
Nonetheless, I believe that as siblings grow older, the bond they shared usually wanes off, and this has nothing to do with busy schedules. No matter how busy you are, there is that one person you will always have time to call and chat with. |

Though they were not responsible for their father's crime, it's not a good idea to invite them over for now.
The former me would have welcomed them without any issues. But the new me would think that one of them might have inherited their father's bad traits. So, I can come up with a thousand reasons why they should be kept at arm's length until further notice.
Just tell them politely that you won't be available during the festive period. Don't make any promises to reschedule their visits. They will be disappointed, but it's not that serious to lose sleep over. |

Image123: How can over 600,000 camps be in a so called genocide? That's more than 600,000 churches because usually an idp camp population exceeds the average church. Kindly make it make sense. Are these IDPs protected? Are they there for Christianity? How does such a large number of group thrive in a reported genocide? And is the priest governor sleeping or what? Do you guys read to comprehend at all or you just scan through an article, then rush to comment? Ok, let me make it clearer. The IDP camps are many and spread across the state, and there are over 600,000 people living in the camps. Some primary schools were even converted to IDP camps. |
