Politics › Re: I Warned Against ‘emilokan’ Politics, Says Tunde Bakare by Wealthoptulent(m): 5:13am On Aug 14, 2023 |
ogododo: The Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, told his congregation on Sunday that he warned against the “Emilokan” kind of politics.
Emilokan, a Yoruba saying, meaning ‘It’s my turn,’ became very popular when it was used by President Bola Tinubu during his 2023 pre-election campaign.
Bakare, during a State of the Nation broadcast, at the church in Ikeja, Lagos, said ’emilokan’ was a tendency of authoritarianism.
During his speech themed ‘Vice, Virtue & Time: Three Things That Never Stand Still,’ the cleric said, “I’m reminded of the warning that I sounded to Nigerians in January 2023 in my address titled, ‘Bridging the gap between politics and governance.’
So This Happened (204) Reviews Hilda Baci's Record-breaking Marathon Cooking “I warned that the politics of entitlement; the ’emilokan’ type of politics would breed an imperium presidency, one that would slide towards dictatorship and would be intolerant of dissent.”
Bakare’s comments were regarding the arrest, detention and prosecution of the suspended Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, as well as the detention of the former boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, by the Department of State Services.
The DSS arrested Emefiele in June, which according to the spokesperson of the security agency, Peter Afunanya, “was on the strength of suspected fresh criminal infractions/information, one of which forms the basis for his current prosecution.”
The Federal High Court in Lagos, last Thursday, fixed August 15 to hear an application by Emefiele seeking to halt his trial by the Federal Government through the DSS.
Reacting, Bakare said, “The actions of the DSS have raised concerns about professionalism and adherence to the rule of law. The reported invasion of the premises of the EFCC and the handling of the case of Emefiele have sparked discussions regarding the need for due process and equitable application of justice.
“The handling of the Emefiele case has sent a signal to the world and the current President’s disposition to the war against corruption.”
The cleric said the war against corruption by the present administration was like making some people scapegoats by virtue of them being “political adversaries while various other major enemies of Nigeria remain untouched.”
He said Emefiele if found culpable, should be prosecuted, adding that the suspended CBN governor might have made a wrong call in the management of the monetary affairs of the country, but he should not be made a scapegoat because he could not have acted without presidential authorisation.

nairavsdollars: By Temidayo Akinsuyi The presiding pastor of Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare has challenged President Bola Tinubu to go after subsidy thieves who have plundered the treasuries of Nigeria in the name of fuel subsidy if truly he is serious about fighting corruption.
He also admonished Tinubu to kill corruption and not Nigerians.
The cleric cum politician made these observations on Sunday while delivering his State of the Union address at his church in Lagos which was monitored by QUESTTIMES.
Recalled that the president in his nationwide address on Monday, July 31 had said subsidy monies are being funneled into the deep pockets and lavish bank accounts of a select group of individuals over the years.
In his words “For several years, I have consistently maintained the position that the fuel subsidy had to go. This once beneficial measure had outlived its usefulness. “The subsidy cost us trillions of Naira yearly. Such a vast sum of money would have been better spent on public transportation, healthcare, schools, housing, and even national security. Instead, it was being funneled into the deep pockets and lavish bank accounts of a select group of individuals,” he said.
While addressing the congregants, Bakare who asked the president some salient questions on the subsidy removal also wondered why the president has not taken any action to go after the fraudsters and recover the monies from them.
Bakare said, “Fellow Nigerians, what is further clear concerning our domestic challenges is that by imposing hardship on Nigerians, without going after those corrupt individuals, corporations, and government officials who have plundered Nigeria over the years in the name of subsidy, the president has picked the wrong fight”.
“In his Monday, July 31 2023 address to the nation, the president stated that the vast sum of money which could have been better spent on public transportation, healthcare, schools, housing, and even national security was been funneled into the deep pockets and bank accounts of some select few individuals. The president further stated that the subsidy removal policy was to stop the smuggling of money by fraudsters”.
“This compelled us to ask the following salient questions: Who are these groups of individuals into whose pockets our national treasuries have been funneled? Who are the fraudsters and smugglers that have been defrauding our nation in the name of subsidy? Who are these nameless characters that have fed fat at the expense of the poor?”
“Mr. President, are they your business partners or are they all sacred cows? Mr. President, if you are truly on the side of the poor, if you are serious about the welfare of the people, if you truly want the poor to breathe as you once said, then kill corruption and not Nigerians”. https://thequesttimes.com/tunde-bakare-to-president-tinubu-are-subsidy-thieves-your-business-partners/ To whom it may concern, how him dey raise PRESIDENTIAL FORM MONEY ,every 4 + 4 ? |

blueghost: General Abdourahmane Tchiani, leader of the Niger junta, has said the military takeover in his country saved Nigeria of an imminent disaster. According to Sheik Bala Lau, Chairman of Jam'atul Izalatu Bida Waikamatu Sunnah, Tchiani said this during a meeting that a Nigerian delegation of clerics had with the junta in Niamey, Niger's capital, on Saturday.
News had reported how Islamic scholars who met President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja on Friday headed for Niger.
According to Sheik Lau, Tchiani claimed the coup was well intended, adding that "they struck to starve off an imminent threat that would have affected not only Niger Republic but also Nigeria".
It is unclear what the junta head meant as the statement did not quote to have gone into details.
But his claim came after the Defence Headquarters said some persons were instigating the military to seize power in Nigeria.
The Director, Defence Information, Tukur Gusau, a Brigadier-General, had said there were plots from different quarters to instigate members of Armed Forces of Nigeria to overthrow the present democratic administration being led by President Bola Tinubu.
According to him, the military would continue to perform its constitutional duties rather than plotting any coup against the present democratic administration, saying the armed forces of Nigeria would not be distracted.
"The reports calling on the military to interfere in our democracy is highly unpatriotic, wicked, and an attempt to distract the Armed Forces of Nigeria from performing its constitutional responsibilities," the senior military official said.
The team that visited Niger comprised scholars from various Islamic sects in the country.
Among them were Sheik Kabiru Gombe-Secretary, Jamatul izalatul bida waikamatul sunnah, Sheik Yakubu Musa Hassan Katsina-Director Daawah, JIBWIS, Sheik Ibrahim Dahiru Bauchi- Rep Sheik Ibrahim Bauchi and Dr Khalid Aliya- Secretary General, Jammatul Nasril Islam.
