FamilyRe: Teenager Sues UK Parents For ‘deportation’ To Africa by wealthtrak: 10:25am On Dec 14, 2024
Abbeyme:
Teenager Sues UK Parents For ‘Deportation’ To Africa

A 13-year-old boy has instituted a legal action against his parents, accusing them of “brutally” taking him overseas and enrolling him in a boarding school before abandoning him there.

According to report, the boy, whose identity is protected, contacted the British Consulate and a child welfare organization after his parents registered him at an African school before returning to the United Kingdom.

The parents “physically and emotionally abandoned” him due to concerns over his potential involvement in gangs in London, according to the boy’s legal team.

The boy, however, denied the accusation.

The boy’s lawyers at the hearing which began on Tuesday, requested a judge order his return to the UK, where he has lived since birth.

However, the boy’s father’s lawyers argued that the decision to send him abroad was a legitimate exercise of parental responsibility.

Deirdre Fottrell KC, representing the boy, stated that his parents’ actions were driven by the belief that there was no alternative way to address the perceived risks than by removing him from the country.

She added, “The steps that this boy, not yet 14, has taken to try and remedy the awful situation he finds himself in are extreme.”

Fottrell further stated, “There is clear evidence that he is being harmed emotionally, psychologically, and possibly physically in the environment in which he has been placed,” describing the parents’ decision to leave him in such a situation as “extraordinary.”

She emphasized that the boy’s claim of not being involved in any gang was “categorical,” and the risks his parents feared—such as being stabbed or shot—were not a likely outcome should he return home.

The boy was described in court as “very polite and articulate,” with a passion for football and cooking.

According to Fottrell, he was enrolled in a school abroad without warning or consultation with him, under the pretence of caring for an ill relative. Upon arrival, his parents left him there.

Fottrell described the act as “stark and quite brutal,” citing the boy’s reports of “inadequate” food and tuition, as well as mistreatment. She also highlighted that the boy was “patently extremely unhappy” in Africa, finding the experience “humiliating” and stating that his English friends mocked him for being “deported."

In addition, Fottrell mentioned that the boy’s mother admitted to physically chastising and abusing him while in the UK. The boy is reportedly “upset, confused, and distressed despite acknowledging his imperfections.”

Judge Mr. Justice Hayden, during the hearing, pointed out that the boy was subjected to “incredibly restrictive” measures in the UK, such as having his location monitored through his phone, which he suggested would be “pretty unbearable for most 14-year-old boys and girls.”

Rebecca Foulkes, representing the boy’s father, mentioned that social workers had reported issues in managing the boy’s behaviour before he left the UK.

They noted instances of physical aggression from the mother when trying to manage his behaviour.

Foulkes also shared that the boy had frequently been late to class, stayed out late, and had been suspected of engaging in criminal activities.

The school had concerns about his social vulnerability and had observed him with expensive clothes and phones, while his phone contained pictures of knives and friends holding knives.

Foulkes stated that from the father’s perspective, there had been a clear deterioration in the boy’s behaviour, leaning toward criminal activities.

She argued that the boy’s parents had “real concerns about where he was and who he was with.”

Foulkes further stated that, in her view, “high-quality care and education in a boundary setting” was available in Africa, where the risks the boy faced in the UK were not present. She believed that the boy’s potential would be wasted if he were to return to the UK.

The court also heard that the parents’ decision should be respected, as it was made in their son’s best interest, even if it did not align with his wishes.

The hearing before Mr. Justice Hayden is set to continue at a later date.

NSNO:
Tesla and SpaceX boss Elon Musk’s net worth has surpassed $400 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, setting a new milestone Wednesday for the world’s richest person.

The jump in wealth, the business news outlet reported, came after SpaceX and its investors agreed to purchase as much as $1.25 billion of insider shares in a transaction that valued the rocket and satellite company at about $350 billion.

The transaction increased Musk’s personal wealth by about $50 billion to $440 billion, Bloomberg said.

Musk’s wealth, largely based on the share price of Tesla and the valuation of SpaceX, already took a huge leap after Donald Trump won last month’s US presidential election.

Tesla’s share price is up by about 65 percent since the vote in November.

Musk has been a prominent political donor and advocate for Trump, pumping a staggering $270 million into the Republican’s campaign.
He has been an ever-present sidekick for Trump since his election victory, inviting him to watch a rocket launch in Texas
by his SpaceX company.

Musk’s businesses all have varying degrees of interactions with US and foreign governments, and his proximity to Trump has raised concerns that Musk will be able to give advantage to his own interests.

By Ebun Sessou

The Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) has debunked high level of fat in locally produced catfish saying its consumption is healthy and of high nourishment to the body.

While encouraging more patronage of the produce, in a statement signed in Lagos by Dr Charity Oche, the National Secretary of FISON, said that recent publications condemning consumption of local catfish because of its high level of fat had no local research facts.

According to her, “It said that the African catfish constituted wholesome health friendly food with enormous nutritional value, apart from creating jobs and providing meaningful livelihood for Nigerians.

“There is need for caution in parading imported research results from around the world and publishing such as representing the catfish or other fish varieties in Nigeria.

“Findings on catfish found in USA are different from that of the African catfish variety popularly known in Nigeria.

“So, it will be wrong to pick certain reports on the internet and interpret them as being representative of what is obtainable here,” she statement said.

FISON said that the outright condemnation of the catfish in Nigeria as having high level of fat was inappropriate when the media had not balanced it with appropriate information from the Nigerian production system.

It, however, advised the media to reach out for authentic results from research institutes and other relevant professionals.

“Currently, valuable research results are available for the asking while other appropriate research works within the purview of our national farming system is ongoing,” FISON said.

Bukola Adebayo

Catfish is one of the most popular and readily available fish in Nigeria. In fact, its delicacy – irresistible to many people – is very common at social gatherings.

It tastes great and is affordable when compared to other varieties of fresh fish in the market.

But do you know that the omega 6 fatty acids in catfish can increase your risk of getting blood clots, arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease and some cancers?

Though doctors say fish is a better and healthier option than meat, they quickly add that not all types of fish are good for the heart.

Nutritionists say that catfish is loaded with bad fat and high cholesterol that encourage clotting of the blood, a condition whereby blood flow is impeded. This may lead to cardiac arrest, thrombosis and, in some cases, heart attacks.

A cardiologist, Dr. Jane Anisulowo, says that farm or home-grown catfish is the worst example in this regard, as it contains more fatty hormones than the ones harvested from natural water.

Anisulowo says, “Fish is better than meat, no doubt. It digests easily and it contains proteins. However, catfish is not really a good option, especially the ones they sell these days, which are cultivated with hormonal feeds that are filled with steroids and other fattening chemicals just to make them profitable. These chemicals are cancerous in nature.

“Also, they contain so much oil that you can almost taste it. Fish, generally, contains oil, but catfish has oil in its skin. That is what makes it so oily and unhealthy.

“It also contains a lot of poly unsaturated fat that does not only make you fat but also settles in the blood stream. That is very dangerous because when blood fails to get to an organ, it fails and suffers paralysis.”

A study conducted by the National Institute of Health in 2012, using over 1000 species of the fish in different water shows that catfish contains a high amount of unfavourable omega-6 fat that causes inflammation in the body.

According to the researchers, three-ounce portion of catfish contains the same amount of bad fats found in red meat.

This is not to say that one should give up eating the fish as catfish contains some nutrients such as Omega3 fatty acids that are good for the body.

Anisulowo says, “If you can get the one from the river, which is rare in most cities, then you may eat it twice a month. But if the only one you can get is the one that is being reared by farmers, you don’t have to eat at all, or just eat it when it is partially smoked. In that way, some of the fats would have been lost in the process. Better still, there are some other species of fish that are oily but they contain good fats and are more nutritious.”

Here are some other species that you can add to your diet:

Mackerel

They are popularly known as Titus fish. The oily meat found on mackerel is its main health benefit. The fish oil, which is also known as omega-3 fatty acid, can be so beneficial that it is used as a supplement.

It lowers triglycerides. High levels of triglycerides in the body have been linked to heart disease and stroke. The most common causes of a high triglyceride level are obesity and poorly maintained diabetes, mainly stemming from an inactive lifestyle.

Some researchers have found out that omega-3 fatty acid is even more effective in reducing heart attacks than some commonly-prescribed drugs.

Mackerel and other fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids are good for the blood. They help to boost blood circulation and lower blood pressure.

Tilapia

Tilapia is a high-quality fish. It has proteins and contains all the essential amino acids your body requires from food diet to help to build proteins. One portion of tilapia cooked using dry heat contains about 26 grammes of protein. The Institute of Medicine recommends that adult men consume at least 56 grammes of protein, adult women consume at least 46 grammes and pregnant and nursing women consume 71 grammes of protein each day. Eating tilapia can help you to achieve that.

It may help in weight control. Tilapia is naturally low in fat, and only contains about 128 calories in each portion. According to a study published in a 2006 edition of “The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation”, subjects who consumed eight grammes of tilapia each week showed an improved body weight.

Moderation is key though. The article gave interesting angles that have been overtaken by more advanced medical findings.

There's been stunning past and recent advanced medical researches from the United States and elsewhere which I have read and watched on YouTube indicating that cholesterol isn't bad and doesn't cause the heart attacks that we have been told in the past years, BUT is INFACT needed for synthesis and metabolism in the human body. This is exactly how there was an attack on the usage of palm oil because of the alleged damaging effect of palm oil on the human body, but as of now, that has been drowned out by newer findings.

I was doing great(still do) as a graphic designer. I studied economics and came out with a very good grade. Initially my plan was to go into the corporate world and do 9-5. All that changed when i met my boss.

My boss is a first class graduate of mechanical engineering. Universities have begged him to lecture. His dad retired as a VC so he has academics around him a lot. He accepted to work for one university due to his father's pressure. He was hardly meeting up with his assigned days to lecture until the VC called him to his office and gave him a dressing down. This young man looked the VC in the face and told the VC he can pay his salary per year 5 times over and stormed out.

I did some follow up and got to know that this young man is a large scale producer of catfish fingerlings (around 300k fingerlings every 4 weeks) and also has several earthen pond where he stocks up to 30,000 catfish per time.

The CBN met him some years ago and offered him loans which he turned down. I was really intrigued and got close to him. He doesn't talk much but he likes seeing commitment and genuine interest. I showed plenty.

When I saw how much returns he was getting every 8 weeks, nobody told me to understudy him which I did. I'm into breeding now as a side hustle.

Let me tell you the truth. There's serious 'blood' money flowing around. I don't mean rituals. I mean money that appears to come from magic. Just be in the right business and learn everything you need to know about that business.

Catfish business is one of them. If you have capital, know the business very well...forget.

There's a reason why Israelis and Lebanese with Chinese of recent are massively dominating the catfish market in Nigeria. Those guys are cashing out like mad.
That's really insightful.

Af0nja2:
Chief Chidi Anyaegbu, Chairman and CEO of Chisco Group has rejected the title of Mayor of Ndigbo (Lagos) initially scheduled to be conferred on him. The ceremony slated for December 16, 2024 was to take place at the Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island Lagos.

In a press release personally signed by him, Chief Anyaegbu expressed deepest gratitude for the honour of selecting him for the title. He however decided to "step back" from the opportunity, due to "the politically charged nature of this position".

It will be recalled that an Igbo business community had planned to install the businessman as the first Mayor Ndi Igbo "as part of efforts to address longstanding business conflicts and foster economic growth."

The Media and Publicity Sub-Committee of the Organising Committee’s chairman, Ifeanyi Agwu stated that the Coalition of Concerned Igbo Business Community and the United Igbo Elders Worldwide selected Anyaegbu because it was necessary to have an office mediating between Igbo businesses.

He stressed, “The conferment of Mayor Ndi Igbo is borne out of an urgent necessity that time was way overdue. The republican and enterprising uniqueness of Ndi Igbo has sometimes been misunderstood by some elements of our host communities. Consequently, relationships have strained to boiling points. Many times Igbo businesses have been challenged, provoked, harassed, and economically assaulted by some in our host communities, in and outside Nigeria.

https://punchng.com/igbo-business-community-to-install-first-mayor/

In the invitation cards sent out, the organisers said Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and many states' governors will attend the ceremony. The Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe was to serve as royal father of the day, amongst other royal fathers.

The Obi of Onitsha has however dissociated himself from the ceremony. He dismissed claims that he will serve as royal father of the day.

According to a statement by his Chief of Staff, Osita Anionwu, the monarch said he had neither been approached nor consented to participate in the event. “His Majesty does not understand the purpose of the event and would not want to be associated with it."

https://www.thecable.ng/obi-of-onitsha-im-not-aware-of-planned-mayor-of-ndigbo-ceremony-in-lagos/
The highly irritating way some of these uncultured elements among the Igbos come up with spurious titles to massage their useless egos shows a fundamental social and personality flaws.

I remember reading an article where Orji Uzor Kalu CLEARLY condemned the mushroom Eze Ndigbo titles because he said it is NOT recognized in Igboland!

Every part or Local government of Lagos State, Kano and elsewhere has one Eze Ndigbo or the other. This wasn't the case in the past where you had just 1 Eze Ndigbo for the whole of each state. They all sit on useless thrones and move about with the title "his royal highness" and most of them are people of questionable origins who are NOT from royal families but just happened to have made money as traders or fraudulently while passing it off as legit money. Two major cases of criminals among these Eze Ndigbos are the drug baron Eze Ndigbo of Australia who was arrested for drug trafficking and money laundering, and the second one is the dubious Eze Ndigbo in Thailand who was arrested along with his other gang members for scamming people through advanced fee FRAUD, money laundering and other crimes.

Every ethnic community MUST simply have one "President of Yoruba Union" (or Urhobo Union, or Igbo Union) in each state and abroad instead of these notoriously dubious mushrooming titles ESPECIALLY among the Igbos who use it for bragging.

Just imagine if all Nigerian doctors, engineers and scientists who are working in diaspora can go back to Nigeria. Nigeria could be a super power country in the world.
In fact
Indeed. I'm glad you got the point. I get pissed off with some trolls when they insult indigenous South Africans especially men and stereotype them. There are hard working and successful South Africans too but generalized negative comments and confirmation bias NEVER works. Nigerians of whatever ethnicity in SA must respect SA folks and not act arrogantly because cultural etiquettes vary from country to country and from one ethnic group to the other even in the same country.

There is a brilliant Nigerian-American medical doctor (with a specialization in musculoskeletal therapies which is in demand) who left his job at Johns Hopkin University and returned to Lagos, Nigeria just 5 months ago with his family. His name is Dr. Julius K. Oni (who is of the Yoruba ethnicity from Ondo State) and his video from his Instagram account went viral online and some people thought he was stupid for returning to Nigeria after 25 years of being away. He has setup a world class facility in Nigeria, and has multimillion USD real estate investments as well. The media have interviewed him many times because of what he did and a lot of Nigerians in the Diaspora are determined to do what he is doing now.

In any event, there are Nigerians in the Diaspora who are offering their services online to Nigerian folks through telemedicine and video conferencing to solve problems and give training programs. So, this reduces the cost of traveling from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, or any part of the world.

Merry100:
Someone is targeting me, and I don't know who it is, but it seems to be related to a shop. I recently reopened this particular shop. It is in a good location, situated beside the main road, but I had previously closed it out of frustration. The shop was burgled and all my valuable gadgets were stolen. It has not even been three months since I renovated the shop, brought in new gadgets, and reopened it, but someone has been trying to burgle it again.

Yesterday, we discovered that someone tried to break into the shop, the person also tampered with the signboard on top of the shop roof, causing it to face downwards.

Also, a man came to the shop yesterday and placed a large order for different foods and various drinks, which exceeded what was available, he said he needed it for a party. While my other staff were in the kitchen area preparing more food for him, he sent the staff who was supposed to serve the food on an errand, and she left without informing anyone, I don't know if she was under a spell or if she was just licking his feet.

When the man realized that he had successfully distracted all of them, he started pretending to be in a hurry. My sister decided to assist by putting the available food into disposable plates, and in the process, the man stole her phone and fled.

A lot has been happening lately. My staff had previously informed me that on the first day the shop was reopened, they saw a nylon bag full of poo in front of the shop and disposed of it.

My sister has been very cold and down since yesterday. Apart from the fact that the stolen phone is expensive, there are important documents on it. I tried hard to suppress my emotions, but seeing my sister in distress because of me made it impossible to hold back my tears.

She didn't even need to be in my shop yesterday. It was Monday and I needed to take foodstuffs to the shop, but I begged her to help me because I had an early morning appointment with a client at the office.

Even my car was tampered with. She parked it outside the shop in its usual location, but there were signs that someone had tried to break into it. It seems like someone is deliberately trying to frustrate me to the leave the shop.
Bump.

I'm just reading this after seeing your thread on the NL front page. I empathize with you over your sudden business loses. The true test of what a successful person will become in life will come from your ability to engage in creative and keep moving on against any headwinds.

What city or town is this shop of yours located?

It must be a good location and that's why you chose it in the first place. Therefore, you might need to have an infrared CCTV camera to monitor movements of people and thieves at night (and also the CCTV will show what your chefs or kitchen staff are doing in the kitchen to prevent the theft of food items which also amounts to internal sabotage) .

There are many Diaspora Nigerian professional medical doctors, pharmacists, registered nurses (RNs), robotic engineers, software and tech professionals, sports men and women, etc, who are based in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Saudi Arabia and even South Africa who are doing very well at the top of their careers and have won several awards. They aren't toilet cleaners or house keepers like you said. There's also a large Nigerian-American, British-Nigerian, and a growing Canadian-Nigerian population in those countries who are involved in the local political space.

Google the names Adewale "Wally" Adeyemo who is a Nigerian-American of Yoruba ethnic descent and the current United States Deputy Secretary of the Treasury since 2021. The current State Surgeon General of Florida by the name Joseph A. Ladapo, MD, PhD, is a Nigerian-American who also serves as Professor of Medicine at the University of Florida. He is also of Yoruba ethnic descent in Nigeria. There is Dr. Philip Emeagwali, a Nigerian-American computer scientist originally from Onitsha in Nigeria who worked on semi-conductors and many more brilliant folks. Nigerians are doing very well abroad with the exception of some idiots who don't give a hoot about Nigeria's image and they delve into drug trafficking and pimping in SA and a few other countries relentlessly. This is the false image and stereotype you have because of the criminal actions of these few idiots, but the larger population of Nigerians are worth more than that. The SA intelligence agencies know what part of Nigeria they come from but you guys keep attacking all the 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria for crimes committed by a few people.

Countries such as India, the Philippines, China, Egypt, etc, have a huge number of their citizens living and working in the Diapora while sending money back home yearly for the development of the families and countries as remittances. Nigeria with about 250 distinct ethnic groups and languages with a combined large population of over 200 million is NOT left out as this is consistent with countries that have large populations
