Nairaland / General / Re: The Unnecessary Hate You Get Because You're Rich In Nigeriaf by wealthtrak: 10:23am On Mar 05, 2022
Ocholu:

Nigeria is a tough country mehn.. A lot of stuffs are happening right now and top of them is the race to survival.

Amidst all these, I observed that a lot of folks in Naija may just start hating on you because you're rich or wealthy.

When you post a little win, they feel that you're bragging. Offer to help they call it showoffs. Look clean, with moderately expensive attire and they conclude that you're pompous.

Many too are overly defensive. They feel that because they can't afford something, nobody else can afford it.

The worst hate and stereotyping are metted on successful young individuals. They quickly conclude that you're into yahoo or hook ups. Nawa oh! Nigerians are born hustlers. A lot of them are legitimately creating a path for themselves. Earning and building great sources of income.

I once told my uncle that I am into software programming, and the man started advising me to stop doing yahoo. Like? I rebuked him so harshly, but wetin concern me. That's the kinda mindset a lot of folks have here.
SMH. How can a country like that ever grow when some of her citizens have a crab mentality?!
Health / Re: Why Is Bitter Kola Price So High? by wealthtrak: 9:46am On Mar 05, 2022
oz4real83:
The prices of bitter kola and other commodities are so high now, not because of Buhari or exchange rate, but because of the activities of unions. These unions determine the quantity of commodities that enter the supply chain everyday, they also determine the participants in the supply chain and the price of every unit of the various commodities. The principles of free market economy have been wiped out by these unions. Even if you produce quantities enough to feed the whole Nigeria, if you are not a member of these unions, you can't enter any market to sell. Every business now has a union for it in nigeria, they act like monopolies and the govts at all levels in Nigeria know these facts but they do nothing about them because these unions play important roles to politicians during elections, at the expense of the people.
You gave a very brilliant insight
here. smiley Keyword: "Greed."

In addition, the COVID pandemic and lockdowns also triggered a huge spike in the cost of production and transportation of
commodities in Nigeria and worldwide.

I know that the government at
the Federal level has to enact laws to ensure that drug barons and dealers have to be punished with hard labour and even via death if
violent Nigerian youths and very violent campus gangs are to be

Hard drugs such as Igbo (Indian Hemp), cocaine, heroin, meth (ice), and other dangerous cocktails have

Politics / Re: Adaka Boro: Vindicating The Hausas And Yorubas by wealthtrak: 9:13pm On Mar 04, 2022
valirex:
Those who arrested and sentenced Isaac Adaka Boro to death for declaring Niger Delta Republic were neither Hausa-Fulanis nor Yorubas but two supposed brothers of his and Biafrans named Odumegwu Ojukwu and Aguiyi Ironsi who were still on the side of Gambaris and still trying to please them as at then. For declaring Niger-Delta Republic Ironsi, the then military head of state, ordered Ojukwu to get Isaac Boro arrested for treason. Ojukwu, in an attempt to please Gambaris, fought Isaac Boro for 14 days within which he used federal might of “one-Nigeria” to kill 150 soldiers loyal to Isaac Boro, caught Isaac Boro, stripped him naked and sent him over to Lagos where Ironsi charged him to court and within just 2 months got him convicted, at the Supreme Court, of treasonable felony of trying to break away from Azikiwe’s one Nigeria, got him sentenced to death by hanging. While Ironsi and Ojukwu did all that to Isaac Boro, they left untouched their own Igbo brother soldiers who planned a coup with which they killed Innocent Hausas, Yorubas, Niger Deltans, Middle belters leaving Igbo politicians unharmed despite they, like Zik and Okpara, were part and parcel of the corrupt Balewa government. However, before Ojukwu and Ironsi could execute their sentence on Isaac Boro God intervened and the counter coup happened. Ironsi was overthrown and killed. Gowon took over declared Isaac Boro innocent and released him. But just fifteen months later Ojukwu too declared Biafra Republic due to the way Igbos were being killed in the North. In declaring Biafra, rather than first apologise to Isaac Boro for what he earlier did to him and then ask for his cooperation in fighting to realize the Biafra dream, Ojukwu did nothing like that but without consulting Boro at all went as far as arrogantly including in his Biafra map the very Niger Delta areas which Isaac Boro earlier tried to pull out of Nigeria and which he (Ojukwu) nearly killed him for. This angered Isaac Boro and Ken Saro Wiwa who both pledged support for Gowon in order to teach Ojukwu a bitter lesson for his arrogance and dishonesty. That was why Isaac Boro and Saro Wiwa fought on the side of Gowon during the war. Naturally Isaac Boro couldn’t have come out of prison to join the Ojukwu who jailed him and fight against the Gowon who released him. It would have been absurd. No rational human being does that. This is the truth of what happened and which Igbos hate to hear but prefer to blame everyone else as if they themselves were 100℅ innocent. Igbos must learn to say the truth because if the Biafra/Niger Delta Republic they now seek is founded on lies and deliberate falsehood, like Nigeria, it will not stand but will soon become a failed state like Nigeria. We can’t leave Nigeria for another Nigeria. But we however know that Igbos allergy to truth is incurable, therefore Niger-Delta states will never be part of Biafra.
Politics / Re: Why So Much Emphasis On The Niger Delta And Boro? by wealthtrak: 9:06pm On Mar 04, 2022
Afriifa:
I've been observing with keen interests, how some propaganda mercenaries are creating threads incessantly about the Niger-Delta ethnic nationalities, particularly the Ijaws, with malicious attempts to undermine their disposition on the 'Biafra' discourse.
I've assessed so many derogatory comments made against the Niger Delta people on this faceless forum.
I have also evaluated the 'divide and rule' antics demonstrated by Biafra promulgators on this forum as they try to pitch other ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta against the Ijaws in their act of desperation.
Finally, I've also acknowledge their collective efforts in distorting truths that underscores their role in Boro's trial as a Niger Delta revolutionist.
Also, in their quest to re-write history, I've also examined their attempts in ridiculing Boro's legacies as a Niger Deltan, and as a National hero as well as to the Ijaw People. Thus, I have the following submission.
i. You all need to acknowledge that the Niger Delta (South-South) People are politically and economically conscious of their position in Nigeria, and that includes Biafra, as such, we don't appreciate you telling us what is best for us. We Know What's Best for Our Interest.
ii. Secondly, we are conscious of our history, and we are not some lost tribe of Jew. Thus, your attempts to re-write our histories to advance your ethnic interests in the South-South is well noticed. Have some decorum. You can't be enforcing your own version people's history on them.
iii. The treacherous and swindling nature of the average Igbo man is duly acknowledged by all ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta. No amount of romantic histories written by you is going to salvage that. Its an Igbo syndrome, and like a virus that has no cure, the result is there for everyone to see.
iv. Insulting the Ijaw people by calling them lazy, ogogoro drinkers, i.e labeling them all sort of derogatory terms and creating one thread here and there to rubbish Boro's legacies because of their opposing views only underscores your desperation.
v. The Niger Delta (South-South) people have all the resources to vie for a separate republic of their own, either collectively as one or seperately as two-three countries as they deem necessary. Respect that! You are not UN. Stop asking for their CV!
vi. You are in no moral, economic, political or intellectual position to tell us what to do, as Niger Deltans. Our name is of no meaning, leave it!
Now my questions;
i. If Boro was used by the caliphate and killed, who was then using Iguiyi Ironsi? And any story about his dishonourable death?
ii. If Ojukwu who cowardly scrammed after leading millions to death could be celebrated as a Biafran Hero despite coming back to romance with the same people he fought against; had his former ranks restored to him, retired as a Nigerian Army, receiving pensions, and concentrated his biggest investment in the same north. Why so much emphasis on Boro and how the Ijaws celebrates him as a Hero?
Brilliant! smiley

Indeed, many who do not read do not realise that after Ojukwu was given a national pardon by the FG under Shehu Shagari, he continued to collect his pension as a retired
Colonel of the Nigerian Army until he passed on.

Your knowledge of history is high! I enjoyed the fluidity of your writing and use of dialectics.

Business / Re: How I Got A Content Writing Job With A European Company That Changed My Life by wealthtrak: 1:42am On Feb 26, 2022
ladywriter:
I've always had the dream to work as a remote content writer (not freelance) with a company. I know two top content writers in Nigeria who have achieved this lofty goal. So I kept pushing to get there. Little did I know that I was already on the path that will lead me there. Below was how it happened:

I assume you know me already. I am Ladywriter. I created this thread "https://www.nairaland.com/4479900/how-make-decent-income-writing
", and "https://www.nairaland.com/1833989/how-make-1000-month-writing".

I stopped working on Freelancer.com to start my writing biz few years ago. It was tough, but I kept going. Two years ago, I sourced clients from LinkedIn. I got about 3 clients all from Europe. I worked with these companies for some time. The least period being six months and the longest - for about 2 years. While working with them, I tried as much as possible to satisfy the clients, but one of them was difficult to please. I eventually lost two of the clients. I kept faith with the remaining one. During this period, I brushed up my seo skill, took paid writing courses worth over $300 with Jon Morrow, bought copywriting books, read virtually all of Neil Patel’s content and followed Brian Dean bumper to bumper. I also bought grammar editing tools. I just kept on learning and improving myself.

Within a year, I became a pro at writing excellent business articles that ranked high on search engines. The articles I wrote for the company began to rank high in Google for our targeted keywords and the company sales soar. The company gives incentives from time to time. For example, they give Amazon Gift cards during Christmas.

Not too long ago, the company wanted to expand its staff strength. I got a call from the CEO asking me if I would like to work for the company full time. I was highly elated! I don’t think I need to tell you my answer (lol). Dreams come true after all. My basic salary for a start is four figures in dollars which translates to six figures in naira. I couldn’t believe my eyes. To cap it all, there are many benefits attached to the job. I will have the opportunity to travel annually to participate in the company’s camp meeting. There are other side benefits apart from my salary.

People, it is good to be hardworking. I can’t begin to tell you the number of hours I spend on my laptop daily including weekends or how much I pay for data monthly. It took me about 3-4 years to get to this point with a lot of learning curves. But it eventually paid off. And this is just the beginning for me.

The truth is, there is no shortcut to success online. There is a process to follow to achieve your dreams. There is no height too high to climb if you are ready to pay the price.

I am writing this piece to encourage someone out there on the path to achieving his or her dreams or someone with a similar dream as mine.

If you are a writer and you want to achieve a similar feat, follow the steps below:

1. Learn how to write business articles
2. Learn how to do SEO
3. Learn how to source clients from LinkedIn
4. Take free and paid writing courses
5. Follow the experts

May God reward your efforts!

Blessings!

gbollybakare:
Tinubu Media Office
Tuesday, 26 January, 2016 4:31
Press Statement-Tinubu Media Office Warns Against Foul Media Repo

In the last 6 weeks, the Tinubu Media Office has monitored the stream of false, distorted media accounts written against Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We have learned that there is a concerted, willful campaign tagged, "Destroy the reputation of Tinubu and his relationship with Buhari." As part of this ugly plot to cultivate the worst of lies against the national leader of the APC, several blogs and online sites recruited to launch this smear campaign have manufactured stories to advance this sinister plan to taint the public mind with gross lies disguised as news reports and interviews.

This campaign, now in full and desperate swing involves a blatant violation of the minimal standards of journalism and social media ethics. Without conscience or any hint of a sense of morality, the lie in the most outlandish fashion by attributing statements to Tinubu which he never made. They concoct interviews that were never given and assert positions that he would never hold or endorse. They go about putting words in his mouth, contending that he was in places that he never was, and reporting falsely his movements and meetings.

They recently have trespassed another boundary of proper behavior by engaging in by cloning letterhead of the Tinubu Media Office and issues their libelous statements under such letterhead. This filth is now being circulated in the social media in a malicious attempt to tie him to the Dasuki money. The writers of these lies willfully seek to mislead, confuse and deceive the public.

Such fallacious headlines such as “Reasons Why I collected N9 million-Tinubu” and “I will not return N9 million –Tinubu”. “I am afraid PDP will stop Buhari in 2009 – Tinubu,” are being paraded. Try as hard as they can, the creators of these false tales and misleading headlines will fail miserably. Their stories cannot stand up to the slightest scrutiny. They are patently false and we condemn in the strongest terms those involved in this anti-Tinubu racket. While these fellows may think themselves cunning, they might have outwitted their very selves. In writing these stories, they have committed clear libel. In abusing the media office letterhead and name, their misrepresentations amount to forgery. They laugh now but walk on thin ice. Soon, that ice will break and they shall have nothing but the weight of their wrongdoing to blame for their predicament that will soon come.

None of these reports don’t check out.
The individuals behind the plot are mostly scared PDP elements made frightened by the Buhari Anti-corruption campaign. They direct these falsehoods at Tinubu in the futile mission of trying to drive a wedge between the president and Tinubu, to disrupt the progress being made against corruption and to destabilize the APC. But their PDP is already something by-gone, buried under the mass of its corruption and wrongdoing. They fight for a cause that has no cause. They are mercenaries of all the ills and defects that the people want excised from our body politic. Thus, we must do the people a public service.

After identifying the bloggers and paid hatchet writers perpetrating these wrongs, the Tinubu Media Office is taken the step to alert the public to beware and be weary of hatchet writers, false prophets and paid bloggers. The Tinubu Media Office has the names and online sites recruited for this campaign and will not hesitate to make them know if they do not desist from their negative mission.

A police officer from Jamaica is being charged with smuggling cocaine into the U.S. by hiding it in her body.

Shelian Cherine Allen, 42, is being accused of flying from Montego Bay, Jamaica to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida on Feb. 3 with a cocaine package in her vagina and two additional packages in her bra, all of which were discovered during a U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspection.

She also reportedly swallowed 90 pellets of packaged cocaine, which were found in her stomach, making a total of 1,350 grams of cocaine found on her as she arrived in the U.S.

The United States Department of Justice said in a statement: "CBP officers took Allen to a local hospital, where she expelled the 90 pellets.

"In total, Allen had approximately 1,350 grams of cocaine on or inside her body when she entered the United States: about 234 in her vagina, about 174 grams in her bra, and about 942 grams inside her stomach."

At the time of her arrest, Allen was a law enforcement officer employed by the Jamaica Constabulary Force for the last 18 years.

The indictment charges Allen with two counts: importation of five hundred (500) grams or more of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute five hundred (500) grams or more of cocaine. If convicted, she faces up to 40 years in prison on each count.

Juan Antonio Gonzalez, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Anthony Salisbury, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Miami Filed Office, and Vernon T. Foret, Director of Field Operation, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Miami Field Office, made the announcement.

HSI Miami and CBP Miami investigated the case, while Assistant U.S. Attorney William T. Shockley is prosecuting it.

Man Arrested After Killing His Wife And Trying To Abscond to South Africa (Photos)

An abusive husband who was on the run after strangling his wife to death has been arrested, IGBERETV reports.

Ifeanyi Victor allegedly strangled Evelyn Alifia on February 18, 2022 at their home in Lugbe, Abuja.

The pair began dating last year and got engaged in August 2021, just months after.

Against the advice of her pastor, Evelyn, a mother-of-one, chose to be with Ifeanyi.

In December 2021, they updated their Facebook friends that they are now married.

Ifeanyi, who is jobless, moved in with Evelyn and reportedly began abusing her almost immediately.

Evelyn was financially responsible for the family, yet she reportedly suffered abuse and was maltreated by Ifeanyi, who threatened to kill her when provoked.

Evelyn began planning to move out of the house when she reportedly found a gun in Ifeanyi's bag on Saturday February 18, 2022.

She rang her sister and informed her of her findings and her decision to inform the police.

That evening, Ifeanyi allegedly strangled Evelyn and locked her body in their room before running off.

He reportedly called Evelyn's family and informed them of their daughter's death. Reports say he ran off with Evelyn's phone and ATM and promised her family that he will return them later.

The police recovered Evelyn's decomposing body on Monday, Feb. 21, while Ifeanyi remained on the run.

He was eventually captured on Thursday, Feb. 24, while making enquiries about travelling to South Africa.

A photo of him, taken just before he was apprehended, shows him laughing without remorse, despite taking his wife's life.

Giving details of Ifeanyi's arrest, John Paul wrote on Facebook;

Politics / Re: Yusuf Lasun: Picture Of The Day From Osun APC Direct Primary Election by wealthtrak: 8:20pm On Feb 25, 2022

Below is the picture of Rt. hon Yusuf Lasun, former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives and a candidate in the ongoing APC direct primary election.

He is one of those who have been making noise all over the media and threatening fire and brimstone. He could only pull 6 votes in his own ward while the very long queue is for Oyetola. He is one of those leaders the opposition are relying on to disrupt APC so that PDP can win.

Aregbesola was smart enough not to go to the polling booth in person. He would have been similarly disgraced. While it is good to make noise and trend on social media, one must be willing to back it up with grassroots popularity/ mobilization and street credibility. Elections are not won on social media. Enough said already. We will meet the illiterate dancer at the general election.
What an epic picture... grin

If I were to take a wild guess, I'd say the Naval Officer in question was white and this was probably in the 70's in the US. Anyway, my takeaway from this is for someone who had passed through such an experience to find his way to a position of power and influence, you would atleast expect that he would want to use his power to prevent others from passing through what he faced.
Not saying its mandatory but at the very least morally speaking you would expect that.

It's ironic that most African leaders more often than not, use power to the detriment not to the advancement of their subjects never minding that these leaders passed came through humble beginnings.

Well said! This was in the 1970s while he was still a student in
the US. It couldn't have been
after graduating with Double Honours then getting employed
in a top US consultancy firm.

There are quite numbers of reasons why many chose Awoyaya as a place to live and invest in property

1. Proximity to V.I and Lekki, almost half of people working in Lekki and V.I chose Awoyaya as their residence home.

2. Proximity to Lekki free trade zone and Dangote refinery. It is no doubt that the value of property will always appreciate and double in a place where economy activities such as Lekki free trade zone and Dagote refinery is taking place.

3. Awoyaya is the biggest town in Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area, presently it has 4 banks. First bank, Union bank, Sterling bank and Rigo microfinance bank. So, it is economy hub of ibeju Lekki LG.

4. Quick appreciation of property, one thing that Awoyaya is known for is quick and fast appreciation of its property.

Awoyaya is Ijebu-speaking hence it is Ijebuland (extending to Ogun State) of which the entire
Ibeju-Lekki LGA in Lagos State
is a part of.
