PoliticsOndo : APC Aspirants Tackle Tinubu Over Alleged Imposition by wengerjay(op): 4:55am On Aug 10, 2016
Ahead of the August 27 primaries of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo state, 24 of the 25 aspirants yesterday kicked against a surreptitious plan by the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to impose Dr. Segun Abraham on the party.

Speaking on behalf of the aspirants, Dr Tunji Abayomi blamed the planned imposition on Tinubu, who they said was head bent to install Abraham. The 25 aspirants who had paid N7.5 million as nomination fees have begun screening race for the party’s primary fixed for August 27 at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.

Although the party had denied the alleged imposition, Abayomi insisted that the planned imposition had been uncovered, saying such imposition by Tinubu was wrong as it would disrupt the normal democratic process of electing candidate for the party for the November 26 governorship election.

Abayomi, who painted graphic picture on how Tinubu allegedly summoned party leaders in the state to Lagos and directed them to work for Abraham and his emergence, said they would resist the National Leader’s plan as it was not acceptable to the majority of the aspirants.

Besides, he said they were ready to ensure that Tinubu’s planned imposition fail notwithstanding his alleged promise to spend huge sum of money for the leaders to ensure Abraham triumph at the party’s primary especially because the action was against the party’s constitution of the party.

Abayomi said: “I am speaking on behalf of the majority of the aspirants, we want to know whether this is true, and considering that we have a constitution that determines the procedure of electing a candidate.

“We are from Ondo State and we expect that our affairs should be largely controlled either by law or the people of Ondo State. So, we reject the government of leaders by the leaders to the privileged set of leaders. If Tinubu had now directed that this is the person he wants to use, that means that he is the one constituting government over the people to his own benefit.

PoliticsRemi Tinubu Says Dino Melaye Threatened To Molest Her, Petitions Apc,saraki by wengerjay(op): 8:13pm On Jul 19, 2016
Oluremi Tinubu, the senator
representing Lagos Central, has
petitioned the leaderships of the All
Progressives Congress and the Senate
over her clash, last week, with Dino
Melaye, who represents Kogi West.
The petition followed an earlier letter to
the acting Inspector of Police, Ibrahim
Idris, in which she asked for “adequate
security” for fear Mr. Melaye may kill
her.
The two senators, who are members of
the ruling APC, clashed during a Senate
closed-door session last Tuesday.
In Mrs. Tinubu’s letters, separately
delivered to the Senate President,
Bukola Saraki, and APC Chairman, John
Odigie-Oyegun, Tuesday, she expressed
worry that the Senate leadership had
not taken action to address Mr.
Melaye’s “threatening misconduct”.
She gave her account of the clash.
“I was duly recognized to speak by the
Senate President, after Senator Dino
Melaye had spoken and berated some
Senate colleagues over their perceived
roles in the judicial case involving the
Senate leadership,” she wrote in the
letter to Mr. Oyegun.
“Although I remained silent and
attempted no interjection during his
statement, Senator Dino Melaye tried to
abridge my right as a Senator by
hectoring at me and interrupting my
contribution. At one point, I cautioned
him about the use of his language and
the threats made, reminding him other
Senators were there with equal right as
he and represented their constituents.
“In a burst of apparent rage, Senator
Melaye charged at me in what can only
be seen as effort to attack me. The
attack was only prevented by some
respectful Senators who moved to
impede his path or otherwise block him
from approaching closer towards me. I
thank those Senators for their personal
courage and sense of decorum. Senator
Melaye hurled foul and vulgar language
at me, what he said should never be
heard in any public institution let alone
the floor of the Senate. Denigrating me
as a woman, Senator Melaye threatened
to beat on the floor of the Senate just
because I dared to express my opinion

PoliticsPDP Governorship Aspirants Reject Mimiko’s Annointed Candidate, Jegede. by wengerjay(op): 7:49am On Jul 19, 2016
Ahead of the November 26 gubernatorial election in Ondo State, governorship aspirants and some leaders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the northern senatorial district of the State yesterday rejected the alleged plan of Governor Olusegun Mimiko to pick the party’s candidate from the Central senatorial district.

The aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders allegedly said Mimiko had earlier met them in a political meeting which was also attended by the State and local government executive members of the party, where he told them that he had endorsed an aspirant from the central senatorial district as the PDP’s candidate.

It was gathered that the aspirant endorsed by Mimiko is the current Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN.

Jegede, an indigene of Akure, is also from the same Central senatorial district with the incumbent governor.

The aspirants urged Mimiko and other leaders of the party promoting the central senatorial district agenda to align with the rotational/zoning principle of the party.

In a communique issued and assigned by the aspirants, Senator Remi Okunrinboye, Rt. Hon. Dr. Bakkita Bello, Bamiduro Dada, Prince Nekan Olateru-Olagbegi, Dare Emiola, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, Dayo Fadahunsi, Yekini Olanipekun, among others, they revealed that there was a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) reached by the state leadership of the party.

They noted that the agreement was to rotate the picking of the party candidates among the north and the central senatorial district, adding that it was the turn of the north to produce the party’s candidate.

The MOU was signed by late Governor Olusegun Agagu, late Dr. Olaiya Oni, Saka Lawal, Otunba Fashawe, now in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Victor Olabimtan now in APC, Olusola Oke now in APC, Dr. Gbankinro among others.

The communique read, “consequent upon the recent development in our great party, in Ondo State, where the Governor Mimiko at a meeting with the state and local government official and delegates of the party across the state, declared his endorsement of an aspirant from the central senatorial district as the PDP gubernatorial candidate for the November 26, 2016 election.

“This position of Mr. Governor is considered a miscalculation that will further put Ondo North Senatorial District at a serious political disadvantage, putting the state PDP at a loss and laying bad precedence in the state.

“That all the undersigned leader align their position with the rotational/zoning principle of our party. This is in accordance with the MOU reached by the state leadership of the party towards the October 20, 2012 election, that the governorship of the state be rotated amongst the three senatorial districts.

“Eventually, that referred election was won by Mimiko for a second term from the central, following a six year governorship of late Agagu from the southern senatorial district.

“Based on first resolution above, the leadership of the north senatorial district should immediately enter into workable agreement and alignment with the southern and central senatorial districts to ensure the goal of rotation is achieved for equity, fairness and justice in furtherance of peace and political stability of our state.

“It is further agreed that an appeal be made to the national and state leadership of our great party to concede the governorship slot of 2017-2021 to Ondo north senatorial district as demonstration of fairness, equity and justice that the state is known for and keeping to the MOU.

“Unless our position in three above is acceptable to the leadership of the party in the state, we in Ondo north will neither go into, nor participate in any primary election conducted that will involve any aspirant from the central senatorial district because it is not their turn now when their son is just rounding up and eight years of two tenure.

“We stand by the MOU reached by the leaders of our party in 2012 which was signed, by the leadership of the state PDP that Ondo north should produce the governor for 2017-2021. And the time is now!

“That the national and state leadership of the PDP should not forget in a hurry the consequences of imposition of candidates on the poor performance of the party in the 2015 Presidential, National and State elections”.
PoliticsFresh Out Of Prison, Fani - Kayode Talks Tough. by wengerjay(op): 7:35am On Jul 16, 2016
Fresh out of prisons where he was
remanded for two months as he faced
corruption trial before a Federal High
Court, a former Minister of Aviation,
Femi Fani-Kayode, came out swinging
Friday night, using his first press
statement since his release to lob
scathing assaults against Muhammadu
Buhari’s administration.
Mr. Fani-Kayode, who was announced
released only a few hours ago after
spending 67 days in Ikoyi Prisons, said
his arrest and ongoing trial were a
handiwork of Mr. Buhari’s government
that aimed to “silence me, break me,
discredit me and destroy.”
Until Friday, Mr. Fani-Kayode had
remained detained since he was first
arrested on May 9, 2016, after
honouring an invitation from Nigeria’s
flagship anti-corruption agency, the
EFCC.
Mr. Fani-Kayode was later transferred
to Lagos where authorities slammed a
17-count charge on him, mostly
bothering on allegations that the one-
time Minister of Culture and Tourism
benefitted from stolen public funds
during the 2015 general elections.
After weeks in detention, Mr. Fani-
Kayode was granted a N250 million bail
on July 4, but he was still kept in
custody pending his meeting the
requirements for his bail.
“I give thanks to God that I am free
after 67 days in detention,” Mr. Fani-
Kayode said. “I thank my wife, lawyers,
children and friends for all their
support.”
Mr. Fani-Kayode said his ordeal behind
bars marked the worst moment of his
life and emphasised his innocence.
“This was the worst experience of my
life but God was with me all the way. I
suffered immeasurably but I count it all
as joy. I am innocent of all charges and
I look forward to defending myself
vigorously in court.
“These charges are politically motivated and I have
been severely punished for my political views and
criticisms of the government,” Mr. Fani-Kayode said.
Both Mr. Buhari and the EFCC had pushed back
against claims that government critics, like Mr. Fani-
Kayode, were being unfairly targeted in Mr. Buhari’s
signature ‘war against corruption.’
In June, Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the EFCC,
reportedly dismissed concerns about his department’s
alleged favoritism in prosecuting cases of corruption
as a mere “perception matter because there is no
single suspect of the agency that has come to the
public space with claims of innocence of any kind.”
Earlier this week while still behind bars, Mr. Fani-
Kayode had said through his media adviser, Jude
Ndukwe, that he remained undaunted by his
detention, but added that he had missed his family,
especially his five-month-old son.
“Despite the fact that he has been locked up for the
last 62 days, he remains confident, strong, healthy
and in very high spirits,” Mr. Ndukwe said. “He
misses his family very badly, especially his five-
month-old son, Aragon, and he looks forward to
coming home to be with his family, friends and loved
ones.”
He echoed a similar resolve in his statement Friday
night.

PoliticsHerdsmen Attacks: 81 Dead In Benue State. by wengerjay(op): 4:34pm On Jul 10, 2016
Survivors and victims of herdsmen attacks in Logo and Ukum council areas in Benue State have been recounting how 81 persons were killed in the last two weeks.

The traditional ruler of Logo, Chief Jimmy Meeme, who spoke to Channels Television on the invasion of rural communities said 70 persons were killed in six out of the 10 council wards in his domain.

He blamed the sustained attacks on his people by the herdsmen on territorial occupation campaign.

Eyewitnesses also claim that Turan, Mbagber, Yonov and Tombo communities in Logo were attacked on the same day while Varser in Ukum Local Government came under siege, leaving 53 persons dead.

A community leader, Terkura Suswam, also made a case for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

In Anyiin community, the matron at a local clinic, Kpadoo Asema, and the IDPs camp manager, John Imenger, spoke on the treatment and how the displaced persons were fairing in the face of lack and despair.

One of the IDPs in Anyiin camp, Aseer Yuam, grieved over the gruesome murder of her son by herdsmen in Tombo council ward while attempting to fetch food for his family from the farm.

The State Coordinator of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Garus Gololo, promised to track down those responsible for the attacks in Logo and Ukum.

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, lamented the inability of the security agencies to arrest the perpetrators of the coordinated attacks.

In his reaction, the spokesman of the Benue State Police Command, ASP Moses Yamu, dismissed allegations of neglect of duty by security personnel.

He insisted that only 22 deaths were recorded in Logo and Ukum local government areas.

PoliticsBuhari's Popularly Has Dropped - APC Chairman, Oyegun by wengerjay(op): 1:43pm On Jul 09, 2016
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has admitted that President Muhammadu Buhari is no longer popular like he was during the 2015 general election.

“All governments worldwide in between terms lose some degree of popularity; no question about that,” he told Punch.

“We are having harsh economic times, no question about that and that does not increase the popularity of any government. It only diminishes it to some extent. What is different is that, in our case, in spite of the harsh economic realities, the people still have full confidence, trust.

“I think that is the proper word, in President Buhari, that he will do his very best to improve their lot and I think the proof of that was the reaction to the threatened strikes by the labour unions. You can see that even though people are unhappy, they refused to come out because they understood.

“They are in pain but they understood why the pain was there and they trusted the President that he was doing everything within his power to ameliorate their pain. So yes, there is a lot of grumbling all over the place, but also there is a lot of trust in Mr. President”, he added.

On internal crisis in some states, including Kano, Bayelsa and Kogi, Oyegun said APC was attending to each of them.

“In vevery case, we are making progress. Bayelsa should be concluded in a matter of weeks. Kano is basically a personality thing and we’ve got everybody to sheathe their swords for now.

“And I think that has happened. Kano has cooled off. We also have issues in Kogi State which we are also attending to. That is the only way you know a government that is in power.

“If we were in opposition, there won’t be skirmishes in these states because there would be nothing to skirmish over but since we are in power, people are still struggling for relative importance within the system with an eye on tomorrow.

“These things are normal, they are expected but we’ve developed that habit of democratic consultation and reconciliation and it is working”, he addedhttp://dailypost.ng/2016/07/09/buharis-popularity-has-dropped-apc-chairman-oyegun/

PoliticsNigerian Oil Workers Begin Strike, Deny Talks With The Govt by wengerjay(op): 11:05am On Jul 07, 2016
Nigerian oil workers are going ahead with their planned strike today( Thursday), despite reports that the government had commenced talks with their leaders, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has said.

The acting general secretary of PENGASSAN, Lumumba Okugbawa, told PREMIUM TIMES on Thursday morning that they were not aware of any negotiations between any arm of the association and the government on any of their demands.

“It is not true there are on-going negotiations between PENGASSAN and government. Apart from the inconclusive negotiation on June 23, which was rescheduled to June 30, only to be put off indefinitely with no further appointment, we are not aware of any other negotiation with government,” Mr. Okugbawa said.

He said reports of negotiations with the oil workers was part of the government’s characteristic way of causing confusion whenever a strike notice is issued.

“If government was sincere, why would it always wait till after the strike had already started before coming out in the media to talk about non-existing negotiations?” he asked.

Mr. Okugbawa said the Federal Ministry of Labour had sent an email to the leadership of PENGASSAN late on Wednesday inviting them to a meeting scheduled for Thursday (today) when the strike was planned to commence.

He said the ministry later sent a text message to reschedule the meeting for Friday, saying the previous schedule was not convenient, in view of the extended public holiday.

But, Mr. Okugbawa said the association had since replied the government that the Friday schedule was equally not convenient, as it could not get all its top executives from across the country where they were deployed to monitor the beginning of the strike.

“In any case, the decision to embark on the strike was taken by the National Executive Council of the Association. It is not possible to stop the commencement of the strike now for a meeting with government on Friday. As far as PENGASSAN is concerned, the strike has commenced as planned. The strike can only be suspended or called off by no other arm, but NEC. For now getting all its members to return for a meeting is foing to be difficult,” he said.

Although he did not confirm any new date the association would find convenient, Mr. Okugbawa said it would not be earlier than next Tuesday.

On Monday, PENGASSAN had declared its preparedsness for another nationwide strike over “unresolved issues” affecting the smooth operation of the oil and gas industry.

Mr. Okugbawa said on Tuesday that some of the association’s demands bordered on issues that would strenghten the oil and gas industry and the country’s economy.

They include backlog of cash call arrears dating back to 2014, which he said had greatly hampered the ability of the joint venture partners with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to discharge their obligations both to the industry and their workers.

Other issues include the poor state of the country’s refineries and the massive waste of resources on turn around maintenance (TAM); continued importation of petroleum products; on-going industry reforms and NNPC restructuring as well as the politicisation of the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIBhttp://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/206518-nigeria-oil-workers-begin-strike-deny-talks-govt.html

Forces against Saraki are many.
PoliticsSenate President Saraki And Majority Leader Ali Ndume Part Ways. by wengerjay(op): 7:12pm On Jul 03, 2016
The crisis in the leadership of the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly has taken a turn for the worst as a cold war has started between Saraki and his deputy on one hand, and the Leader of the Senate, Ali Ndume, on the other hand.

Investigations by our correspondent, in the last one week, revealed that trouble started when Saraki allegedly discovered that Ndume was not on the same page with him on the crisis he was having with the Presidency.

A ranking senator, who craved anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the issue, confided in one of our correspondents during the week that Saraki suddenly discovered that Ndume, who was allegedly close to the Presidency, was no longer pleading his case whenever he was in the Villa.

The senator explained that since his emergence as Senate leader, Ndume allegedly warned Saraki to be wary of Ekweremadu and other members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the red chamber who might want to pitch him against the presidency.

He was said to have specifically advised Saraki to avoid any form of confrontation with President Muhammadu Buhari, but should rather do everything possible to support his administration, so that the latter would extend a hand of fellowship to him.

The source said, “The trouble between Saraki and Ndume started when some of Saraki’s ‘men’ in the Villa started feeding the Senate President with reports of how Ndume had allegedly joined members of the Senate Unity Forum to work against him and Ekweremadu.

“Don’t forget; Ndume contested for deputy senate president against Ekweremadu in this Eighth Senate. His initial intention was to be Senate president before realignment between him and Saraki made him to settle for deputy senate president.

“It was when Saraki discovered that all attempts by him to see President Buhari did not succeed despite Ndume’s assurances that he started listening to other close colleagues, who advised him to adopt a confrontational strategy against the Presidency.”

Attempts to speak with the Senate President on the issue failed as he is currently on Lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia, while calls put across to his deputy did not also connect.

However, when contacted, the Senate Leader denied knowledge of any face-off between him and the presiding officers of the Senate.

Ndume said, “I am not aware of any crack in the Senate leadership. In fact, I am hearing that for the first time.”

But some of Saraki and Ekweremadu’s aides, who spoke with one of our correspondent off the record in separate interviews, confirmed that Ndume was no longer on the same page with the Senate presiding officers.

An aide to Saraki said, “It is true. Ndume is no longer on our side, but there is no cause for alarm. We have taken necessary measures. We have been observing him for quite some time now, but he has shown to us where he belongs.”

Likewise, an aide to Ekweremadu, who equally spoke on condition of anonymity, acknowledged the crack in the Senate leadership, stressing that Ndume had finally fallen apart with Saraki and his boss.

He said, “The truth of the matter is that the crisis did not start today. It was when the Senate President realised that he was being misled by the Senate leader that they fell aparthttp://saharareporters.com/2016/07/03/senate-president-saraki-and-majority-leader-ali-ndume-part-ways-federal-court-refuses

PoliticsBuhari Hasn't Apologized To The Senate - Presidency by wengerjay(op): 7:30pm On Jul 01, 2016
The presidency has denied media reports that President Muhammadu Buhari had apologized to the senate for the conduct of an official of the ministry of justice.

The Senior Special Assistant to the president on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, on Friday said the reports were a misrepresentation of his comments.

Mr. Enang was reported to have apologized on behalf of Mr. Buhari for remarks made by Okoi Obono-Obla, a special assistant to the president on prosecution.

Speaking to PREMIUM TIMES, Mr. Enang said he only pleaded with senators in his personal capacity.

Mr. Obono-Obla had on Thursday allegedly questioned the authority of the Nigerian Senate to summon the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

He also reportedly said the presidency had no confidence in the Senate Judiciary Committee that summoned the Attorney-General.

Mr. Malami had asked Mr. Obono-Obla to represent him at a Senate Committee meeting, that was to examine the circumstances surrounding the trial of senate president, Bukola Sakari, and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, for alleged forgery of Senate standing rules.

The senate committee refused to allow Mr. Obono-Obla represent Mr. Malami, who was said to be abroad at the time.

Mr. Enang said the development prompted him to convene a press conference at his residence as a way of easing tensions between the presidency and the National Assembly.

“I am a presidential liaison officer and I apologize for the inability of the Attorney-General to appear before the Senate when he was invited.

“He received a letter of invitation after he had already planned an official trip,” Mr. Enang said.

Mr. Enang said he had assured the senators that Mr. Malami would honour their invitation upon his return to the country.

“I said the attorney general will meet with the chairman of the Senate committee hearing the matter,” he said.

Mr. Enang, a former senator, said he apologised on behalf of Mr. Obono-Obla because he did not want the relationship between the lawmakers and Mr. Buhari to get frostier.

“I apologise for his comments. From what I heard, he was not complimentary to the senate,” Mr. Enang said. “We didn’t need to cause more trouble between the presidency and the Senate.”

Mr. Enang, therefore, urged Nigerians to dismiss reports that his apology was on behalf of the president, saying doing so, in this case, “would be terrible”.

“The president has not apologised. It is me that is apologising for the inappropriate action of the person representing the Attorney-Generalhttp://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/206282-buhari-hasnt-apologised-senate-presidency.html

PoliticsOshiomhole: I Have Reconciled With Odubu, My Deputy by wengerjay(op): 5:26am On Jul 01, 2016
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State Thursday announced that he has settled the political differences between him and his deputy, Dr. Pius Odubu.

The governor made the announcement at a reconciliation and thank you party organized for ward leaders of the All Progressives Congress.

Dr. Odubu and some of his supporters were, however, absent at the party.

P.M.NEWS recalled that the once cordial relationship between Oshiomhole and his deputy became frosty after the governor supported the Chairman of his economic team, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, to succeed him.

Oshiomhole who told the APC members to go back to the wards and reconcile with all aggrieved party members, disclosed that he would personally visit some APC members to heal the wounds.

He said the campaign message of the APC would change since, according to him, ”a more credible candidate has emerged in the PDP.”

He said: “Let us imbibe the spirit of oneness. I was excited of having the privilege to brief President Buhari of the outcome of our primaries and the Preisdent said he is proud of all you who participated in that process. This will be the first time a sitting president will hold the hand of our party candidate and present him to the people of our great state.”

“As you return to your wards, align with leaders of each of those wards to call a meeting and had time together. Remind them that they voted for the party. Convene meetings at the ward level to bring all the ward leaders together. We need to visit them and we will visit them. They worked much harder. They deserve our commendation.

“This is the time to settle small quarrels within the party. No more rumours. Help us to unite, to reconcile, to restore old friendship and old alliances. I have renewed mine with my deputy governor. It is one party, one family and one destination.

“PDP has elected a more credible candidate. The problem with that is that the candidate is not carrying the kind of baggage the fake pastor is carrying. Our campaign message must be different.”

In his speech, the State Chairman of the APC, Anselm Ojezua, disclosed that many of the governorship aspirants of the party have promised to work for the successes of the APC during the elections.

Also speaking, the party’s flag-bearer in the September 10 governorship election, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, promised to continue the process of reconciliation and work towards making the party solid.

His words, “Every member of APC will benefit. We are one party. We watch the language we use because we know one day will come when we will come together to work. Forgive and forget whatever mistake of the past. Come September, we will sing victory song.

PoliticsOlisa Metuh Declares Support For Buhari's Anti-corruption War. by wengerjay(op): 2:09pm On Jun 30, 2016
We want to confirm that since then, we have been in talks with the Ministry of Justice, the EFCC and other necessary bodies on how to refund the money and resolve the issue.
by SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK Jun 30, 2016

A former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh has disclosed that talks have begun between his legal team and officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to facilitate his return of N400million traced to him from defence funds. The funds which were primarily meant to fight Boko Haram insurgents were shared to party officials by former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan through the office of the Nation Security Adviser. Mr. Olisah through his lawyer Onyechi Ikpeazu has issued a statement again reasserting his intention to return the funds in its entirety to signify his support for President Muhammadu Buhari's anti-corruption war.

Metuh is currently undergoing trial for money laundering at a Federal High Court in Abuja.

See his full statement below:

Why Our Client (Chief Olisa Metuh) is Offering To Refund The N400 million – Counsel

In the light of the circumstances regarding the case of our client, Chief Olisa Metuh with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), we want to explain the reasons for our client's proposal to refund the N400 million released to him by former President Goodluck Jonathan, and which was expended on a project approved by the ex-President on national issues relating to his Presidency and the Federal Government at that time.

1. We want to restate that at the time the money was released to him after his presentation to the ex-President, our client had no knowledge of the source, a fact that is now obvious from the evidence of the prosecution and defence witnesses. Our client had every cause to believe that the money was from the ex-President to whom he made a presentation, received directives and rendered report and accounts accordingly.

2. When the matter first came up, and Chief Metuh was invited to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in December 2015, he requested to know the source of the money and expressed his readiness to make refunds if it was from government coffers, not minding that the money had been expended as directed by the former President. Officials at ONSA never got back to him as they promised, until his arrest by the EFCC in January 2016.

3. It was however while in court that a document was brought regarding the source of the money and since then, our Client has made manifest his willingness to refund the money and has indeed approached his family, friends and associates to mobilise funds to refund the entire N400 million to the government regardless of the fact that the money had been expended based on the directives of the former President and that part of the money had been recovered from one of the prosecution witnesses.

4. We want to confirm that since then, we have been in talks with the Ministry of Justice, the EFCC and other necessary bodies on how to refund the money and resolve the issue.

5. Our client occupied no government office. His commitment and dedication to his official duties have been confirmed by even prosecution witnesses. In this whole saga, he has been an unfortunate victim of circumstances. His refunding the money, therefore, goes to show his support for the anti-corruption war as well as serve as a testament to his sincerity, integrity and honesty in this matter.

6. There is no doubt that the prosecution has considerably embarked on some expenses in the course of this case. It is hoped that by not discounting the sum already recovered, whatever cost so far incurred would have been defrayed. By this, a critical objective of recovery of funds would no doubt be achieved.

7. It is pertinent to restate our client's continued support for the anti-corruption campaign, which is necessary to ensure probity in the affairs of Nigeria to the extent that it is conducted within the rule of law.

8. Finally, it is our client's prayer that this nation shall come through this difficult time by the grace of the Almighty God.

Signed:

Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN)

PoliticsForgery Trial : Ekweremadu Writes US Congress, EU Parliament, Others by wengerjay(op): 8:23pm On Jun 28, 2016
Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, on Tuesday wrote the United Nations, European Union, United States’ Congress, European Union Parliament, Governments of United States, United Kingdom and other foreign missions, over his trial for alleged forgery of Senate standing rules.

Ekweremadu raised the alarm over what he described as attempt to truncate Nigeria’s democracy and “silence him as the leader and highest ranking member of the opposition in the country, all in the name of prosecuting an alleged forgery case.”

The letter is a two-page document, entitled: “Re: Trumped up charges against the presiding officers of the 8th Senate: Nigerian Democracy is in Grave Danger,” a copy of which was sighted by our reporter in Abuja.

Ekweremadu attached copies of the court summons and other relevant documents relating to the matter to his letter.

The deputy Senate president noted that he wanted the international community, to “after perusing the facts before them, decide whether or not the trial was justified, or one purely borne out of political vendetta.”

He insisted that neither his name nor that of the president of the Senate, featured in the petition filed by the aggrieved members of the Senate Unity Forum (SUF) or during the investigation of the petition by the police.

“I know that everyone here( crusade) is expecting a miracle from the Lord even our nation also looks forward to great miracles from the Lord and I know that tonight will be that night when the Lord will visit us in a special way.”

Over 80,000 people from all walks of life attended the crusade, including the Founder of Dunamis International Gospel Church, Pastor Paul Eneche and his wife, Dr. Becky Eneche, General Overseer, Gospel Light Redemption Ministry, Pastor Isaac Oriakhi, Comptroller General, Federal Fire Service, Engr. Kumuyi also maintained that the power of God would transform the life of participants into abundance of glory and lift the nation out of the present challenges if they could humble themselves and pray, and God will forgive them. But he warned them of the danger of the absence of God’s glory in their life, which would keep the glory of God away from them.

After the ministration he (Kumuyi) prayed for participants with different health challenges and they were supernaturally healed and they also shared their experiences after the prayer.

PoliticsIPOB Launches 'Biafrexit', Accuses British Prime Minister, Cameron Of Hypocrisy. by wengerjay(op): 5:32am On Jun 26, 2016
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday announced the launching of ‎’Biafrexit’ as its campaign slogan.

Spokespersons of the group,‎ Barrister Emma Nmezu and Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka Iroanya‎, who announced this in a statement made available to DAILY POST accused British Prime Minister, David Cameron of exhibiting hypocritical attitude towards the Biafran course.

The statement was entitled: “THERE MUST BE ‘BIAFREXIT’ IN LINE WITH THE JUST CONCLUDED ‘BREXIT'”.

It read: “The British Government, which is the closest ally of the Nigerian Government must, as a mark of exemplary leadership, guide Muhammadu Buhari and his colleagues to organize a BIAFREXIT akin to the recently organized BREXIT.

“The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) congratulates the Government and people of Britain for organizing the BREXIT vote and applaud the British Government for respecting the wishes of her citizens.

“However, it smacks of hypocrisy that the same David Cameron that initiated the BREXIT vote has been propping up the Buhari‘s Government in their murderous acts of suppressing the quest by Biafrans to exit from Nigeria. This leaves Biafrans to ask if David Cameron’s hypocrisy is because Biafrans are blacks and if black Africans are inferior to white British people?

“Why does David Cameron think that what is good for the white British people is not good for the black people of Africa especially Biafrans? Mr. David Cameron, in organizing BREXIT is taking advantage of the rights of people to make their choice.

“But in denying Biafrans the right to choose their own nation, David Cameron is telling Biafrans that they are inferior because of the colour of their skin. David Cameron is directly telling Biafrans that because they come from an inferior race, they do not deserve to exist as a nation of their own choice.”

“There are indications that Scotland will restart their agitation for separation from Britain and both David Cameron and his would-be successor will not stop them nor will they roll out tanks and other lethal weapons to mow down the Scots like the British-supported Nigeria has been doing to Biafrans.

“We have to re-emphasize here that self-determination is a right that must be exercised by all free people. Even Donald Trump, the presidential candidate of the Republican Party in the USA tweeted on the 24th of June, 2016 that ‘Self-determination is the sacred right of all free peoples.’

“By blocking the self-determination efforts of Biafrans through overt and covert supports to Muhammadu Buhari, is David Cameron telling the world that Biafrans are still in slavery despite the abolition of slavery in 1833?

“IPOB has also observed with keen interest the consistent British Government’s official policy of not supporting any Christian nation that needs support for independence or that is going through any form of internal/external aggression.

“On the other hand, the British Government has always supported a Muslim nation against a Christian nation in any conflict just as they supported the Muslim-dominated Nigeria to carry out genocide against a Christian Biafran nation between 1967 and 1970.

“While IPOB is not against the religious inclinations of any nation, we do note with concern the British Government’s penchant for supporting Muslim nation against a Christian nation.

“We also note the faulty argument by David Cameron and the British Government that they do not want to alter the pre-independence territorial integrity of Nigeria. But this same territorial integrity of Nigeria was tampered with by the ceding of Bakassi to Cameroun. We recall that in 1982 Britain went to war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands but this same Britain never supported Nigeria to prevent the ceding of Bakassi to Cameroun and this distortion of the pre-independence territorial integrity of Nigeria is the same excuse used by Britain to continue to keep Biafra under Nigeria.

“From the success of BREXIT, we call upon the incoming Prime Minister to work with Buhari to speedily organize BIAFREXIT.

“In addition, we warn the incoming Prime Minister that failure to probe the criminality of Buhari against the Biafrans will make Britain culpable in the re-enacted 21st century Biafran genocide.

“It is unfair and hypocritical that the British Government will allow free expression of the wishes of her citizens, while on the other hand supporting Buhari in his brutal mass-murder of Biafrans who are exercising their God-given freedom to determine their nationality.

“We believe that the days of slavery are gone and the black race should not be treated as an inferior and expendable race.

“The time has come for BIAFREXIT and Britain must support ithttp://dailypost.ng/2016/06/25/ipob-launches-biafrexit-accuses-british-prime-minister-cameron-of-hypocrisy/
CrimeWife Beats Lecturer Husband To Death Over Extramarital Affairs. by wengerjay(op): 7:29am On Jun 25, 2016
A lecturer in the Theatre Arts Department of the College of Education Oju in Benue state, Godwin Abuul, has been allegedly murdered by his wife, name withheld, in connivance with her siblings over alleged extra marital affairs.

husband-beater

Saturday Vanguard gathered that Abuul who went missing about two weeks ago in Gboko was killed by his murderers who also dumped his remains in River Katsina/Ala.

According to a family source who craved anonymity, the deceased two weeks ago went missing in Gboko after returning from Oju where he lectured at the state owned College of Education.

Narrating the story he said, “Goddy used to lecture at the College of Education in Oju. He travels weekly from here in Gboko to Oju to lecture after which he returns to Gboko to spend his weekend with his wife and two children.

“Unfortunately, two weeks ago he returned from Oju and said he was traveling to Katsina/Ala on a private visit, that was the last we heard of him.

“His disappearance was reported to the Police who since then have been combing the entire state in search of his whereabouts.

“Luckily, just two days ago, the cloth he wore the last day anybody saw him was found with a young man who was immediately arrested by the Police in Gboko.

“Upon interrogation the young man confessed to the Police how the missing lecturer was allegedly killed by his wife in connivance with her siblings.

“His confession triggered the arrest of several persons including the wife of the deceased and mother of his two children and all those mentioned in the saga, by the Police in Gboko, though the matter has been transferred to the Command Headquarters in Makurdi for further investigations.”

Continuing, the source said, “already his wife has confessed all she knew about the matter to the Police. We learned that she alleged that her brothers beat her husband up because he was involved in extra marital affairs, but not with the intention to kill him.

“After killing him, they allegedly dumped his body in River Katsina/Ala and also went ahead to sell his Honda car to an innocent buyer for the sum of N650,000 and of that sum, the wife of the murdered lecturer was given the sum of N400, 000 as her share of the proceed.”

“As I speak with you, the Police and local divers are still combing River Katsina/Ala to locate the remains of the Goddy (the deceased) but we very much doubt if his remains would be seen because the fishes must have feasted on it.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Assistant Superintendent, ASP, Moses Yamu who confirmed the incident said he was yet to get full details of the matter.

Yamu said, “yes I know of the matter but I’m yet to get the full details of the matter from the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, because the suspects are yet to arrive Makurdi. At this moment I cannot confirm that the wife of the deceased was behind his murder until the details are made available to mehttp://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/wife-beats-lecturer-husband-death-extra-marital-affairs/

David Cameron has resigned as prime minister after Britain voted to leave the European Union.

The prime minister said Britain required "fresh leadership" to negotiate the country's exit from the EU.

"I do not think it would be right for me to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination," he said in a statement outside Downing Street.

He promised to "steady the ship" over the coming months before stepping down in October.

Mr Cameron was close to tears as he announced his decision.

The referendum, called by Mr Cameron, delivered a shock victory for the Leave campaign.

The Brexit vote immediately sent the pound tumbling and sparked calls for his resignation.

Mr Cameron said the result was the "will of the British people" which was an "instruction which must be delivered.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has challenged the management of Zenith Bank Plc to officially deny that the bank funded his election in 2014.

Fayose was reacting to a media reports saying the bank has denied the funding his election.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, on Thursday, the governor said: "I stand by my claim that Zenith Bank Plc majorly funded my election in June 2014.

"I don't expect an organisation like Zenith Bank to stay in a corner in matter of national concern like this and be talking.

"Rather, I expect the Zenith Bank to issue an official statement not as feeble as this one being peddled in the media, so that I can begin the second stage of my revelations.

"My statement was made in the open and if I can accuse an institution like Zenith Bank in the open, I expect the institution to give an official reply and not one online medium claiming sources in the bank.

"All what have been claimed to have been said by the Zenith Bank in the media can be situated in the realm of rumour because an organisation like Zenith Bank won't react to issues through sources," he said.‎ Making allusions to the Bible, the governor referred the All Progressives Congress ( APC), Zenith Bank and the EFCC to John 8 verses 6-7, which says; "This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down and with his finger wrote on theground, as though he heard them not. When they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said unto them, he that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone‎."

He warned that those behind his current travails will failhttp://saharareporters.com/2016/06/23/zenith-bank-cant-deny-funding-my-election-fayose.
