Twenty-eight days to Osun State governorship election, a supremacy battle between two major blocs in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West is not only threatening its chances in the poll, but its 2019 fortunes in the zone, Sunday Tribune has reliably learnt.

Counter allegations of anti-party activities have also been taken to Aso Rock, and senior presidency officials had reportedly intervened, though President Muhammadu Buhari had not personally sat with either of the two aggrieved camps.

A leader of a bloc, believed to have the ears of Abuja, told Sunday Tribune that the allegation of anti-party being thrown at his camp would not stick because the accusers began the anti-candidate project in some states of the zone.

Checks revealed that the camp loyal to a mainstream bloc had approached the presidency to complain about alleged anti-party against two APC governors, Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State and Yahaya Bello of Kogi State as well as APC Ekiti State governor-elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

They were accused of supporting the candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Moshood Adeoti, against the party’s candidate, Gboyega Oyetola.

Adeoti was the Secretary to the State Government before he opted out of the ruling party, to become the ADP standard bearer.

He is allegedly receiving support from party heavyweights who are against the candidature of Oyetola, a relation to the party’s national leader, Bola Tinubu and the anointed of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State.

There was also an alleged plan for him to return to the ruling party, after winning the poll.

The main battle between the two major blocs within the party in the zone, is said to be situated in the plot for the control of the zonal structure ahead of the 2019 poll and beyond.

The allegation of anti-party against the trio of Fayemi, Amosun, Bello and other party bigwigs from Lagos, Ondo states by the other camp at the presidency, was said to have been countered with the alleged past anti-party activities of the other side.

The other group was accused of supporting opposition candidates in recent Ondo and Ekiti governorship polls, which the party’s candidates won.

A senior party loyalist who currently supports Adeoti told Sunday Tribune that “what case could they have against the governors and Fayemi, when their leader here (name withheld) hasn’t congratulated Fayemi on his victory more than a month after the poll. They have been boasting that Fayemi hasn’t become governor yet and got lawyer for Segun Oni. As we speak, he (a party leader whose identity is being withheld) is not on speaking terms with Amosun. How do you reconcile their accusations with what they did in Ondo and Ekiti. We remain APC but will never support their candidate”.

Both blocs had reportedly made their case to the presidency, with Buhari’s final decision being awaited.

One of the groups, was said to have asked Abuja, to compel general zonal support for the party’s candidate.

Sunday Tribune learnt that in the bid to reinforce Oyetola’s chances, a recent returnee, Musiliu Obanikoro, had relocated to the state to help the party with campaigns and strategies.

A discomforting telephone call took place two nights back between the former Lagos PDP strongman and a former ally.

The Osun project is allegedly already robbing the former minister a lot of support at home, on his senatorial ambition.

An alleged plan to also get a particular national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) (name withheld) deployed for the Osun poll is also generating a lot of heat and debate within the political circle.

Leading candidates have vowed to resist the alleged planned deployment.

The controversial national commissioner was a state commissioner for the electoral body, before his elevation.

He is from the South-Western part of the country.

Sources within the system accused him of colluding with a certain former chief detail to a former governor, who owns a magnificent hotel in Lagos.

The former chief detail is accused of being the mastermind of a massive rigging plot by one of the leading political parties in the election.

I think Fayose used to brag that he will go to sleep once Fayemi is made the Ekiti State APC gubernatorial flagbearer.
It was obvious fayose had been working and scheming tirelessly to ensure Fayemi didn't emerge the APC flagbearer because he knows Fayemi is the only candidate among the APC flagbearerss that has the financial wherewithal to compete with him and the fear that Fayemi would want to unleash the federal might as used by fayose himself in 2014 gubernatorial election.
Fayose set up a Judicial Panel of Enquiry which indicted fayemi of financial misappropriation and banned fayemi from holding any political appointment in the state for the next 10 years all in a bid to stop fayemi from contesting for governor.
The events of the last one week have shown that Fayose has been restless and having sleepless nights since fayemi has been announced the flagbearer of the APC for the coming gubernatorial election with allegations that the APC has concluded plans to rig the election.And the PDP in the state has resorted to propangada to blackmail the APC.
I thank APC for nominating their weakest candidate for the election, if not the Governor would have gone into shock.
For the two Parties, the battle has just begun.

Me thinks they have just been moved to IPPIS platform and other federal civil servants on IPPIS were started on new tax regime November 2016.Workers protested then but nothing was done to reduce the tax rate.

Senate Minority leader Senator Godswill Akpabio has given Governor Udom Emmanuel conditions for supporting his re-election.

Akpabio, who alleged that his successor neglected his Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in terms of development, said he might not support Emmanuel’s second term bid, if the injustice continued.

Speaking at the annual get-together organised by the Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Ekpo, to fete the people of Ikot Ekpene at Independent Hall, Abak, Akpabio warned that the era of carry-go politics is gone and urged the governor to brace itself for the big task.

The former governor said he would only endorse Emmanuel’s re-election, if the policies and programme were not discriminatory against Ikot Ekpene.

He said some projects embarked on by his (Akpabio’s) administration, including the multi-million naira Four Points-by-Sheraton Hotel at Ikot Ekpene and the dualised Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road had been abandoned by Governor Emmanuel.

Something similar happened in akure a couple of days ago at Fadach petrol station. A policeman(ASP) in mulfti attached to Ijapo police station attacked a civilian with teargas and subsequently headbutt the civilian following a brawl.

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme is dead.

A statement from his family signed by his brother and the traditional ruler of Oko in Anambra State, Igwe Laz Ekwueme said that he died by 10:00 pm in a London clinic, Sunday.

The statement read: “Ekwueme family regrets to announce the peaceful passing away of their patriarch, the former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON.

“The sad event occurred at the London Clinic at 10:00 pm on Sunday 19th November 2017.”

Ekwueme had slumped in his Enugu residence, and immediately taken to the Memfys Neurosurgery Hospital Enugu, where he relapsed and went into a coma.

Abisogun Leigh Street, Ogba, Lagos State was the cynosure of all eyes on Sunday when two apparent lovebirds were found dead in a Toyota Corolla parked by the roadside.

Although the names of the deceased had yet to be revealed, they were said to have been respectively married.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the man was found in the driver’s side, half naked, with his private parts showing, while the woman, who wore a gown, reclined in the passenger seat next to him.

The scene of the incident was behind the headquarters of the Area G Police Command, Ogba, Lagos State.

Our correspondent gathered that a tricycle rider, who was plying the street, noticed that the headlamps of the car were on around 8.30am.

When the light remained on about 30 minutes after, the rider reportedly drew the attention of an executive member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers to the car.

It was gathered that the executive member and the rider went to the scene, peeped into the car and observed that the lovers were motionless. They were said to have immediately alerted the police at the command.

The car had been moved to the premises of the Area G Police Command when our correspondent visited the scene around 2.30pm, while the corpses of the duo were said to have been deposited in a morgue.

The NURTW member, Adewale Sofuyi, told PUNCH Metro that he alerted the Area G Command to the incident.

He said, “A tricycle rider approached me around 9am. He said the headlamps of a Toyota Corolla by the roadside were on and that he had knocked at the car door without getting response from the occupants.

“I followed him to the scene and confirmed what he said. The man wore a shirt only; he did not cover his private parts. The woman was in a gown. They were both in the front seats. The seat where the woman sat had been adjusted so that she reclined on it. From all indications, they had had sex with each other before their deaths.

“I went to report at the area command and some policemen followed me. When they opened the car, a bottle of an alcoholic brand – Best – was found there. Their phones were also recovered. They moved them to the back seats and drove to the station. The police contacted their families through their phones.”

Sofuyi stated that when families and relatives of the deceased arrived at the command, they were shocked to know they were in an amorous relationship.

“According to the families, both of them lived in the same building in Ogba. The woman’s husband said he had suspected that she had extra-marital affairs, but decided not to confront her.

“The man’s wife is a nursing mother. She cried profusely. I learnt that the man’s father is the landlord of the house where they both lived.”

Our correspondent, who went to the Area G Command, was told by the policemen at the entrance that the Area Commander was not around.

“She (Area Commander) went to the police command headquarters in Ikeja over the incident. You can come back,” one of the policemen said.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, confirmed the deaths.

He, however, said he had yet to be fully briefed on the matter.

He said, “They (the lovers) were taken to a hospital, where they were confirmed dead. Autopsies will be conducted on them, while investigation is ongoing to ascertain the cause of death. I don’t have their names for nowhttp://punchng.com/lovers-found-dead-in-car-on-lagos-street/
