Saraki with his inordinate ambition and exorbitant arrogance will make governance difficult for PMB if he eventually becomes the Senate President.
Saraki will see himself as the number two citizen once he is elected Senate President and may be eyeing the office of the President come 2019.
PoliticsSaraki Boycotts APC Leadership Meeting, Calls Osinbajo A Mere 'Commisioner'. by wengerjay(op): 3:59am On Jun 09, 2015
The meeting called on Monday by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been boycotted by Senator Bukola Saraki, one of the party’s top contenders for the presidency of the Senate. Prof. Yemi Osinbajo

Senator Saraki boycotted the meeting after reportedly telling party leaders that as a former governor he could not attend a meeting summoned by a ‘mere commissioner’, referring to Professor Yemi Osinbajo, whose previous public office was as Commissioner of Justice in Lagos State. Saraki then became a Senator, while Osinbajo is now the Vice President.

Following Saraki’s snub, Prof. Osinbajo didn’t bother to attend the meeting, but the party met with its elected lawmakers, with some of Saraki’s earlier supporters joining the meeting.

Sources at the meeting told SaharaReporters that the leaders of the National Working Committee of the APC reaffirmed their support for candidates chosen during Saturday’s mock primaries of the party.

The Senate and the House of Representatives are expected to be inaugurated tomorrow. President Muhammad Buhari has given his blessing and dispatched a letter to the Clerk of the National Assembly asking to declare the two chambers inaugurated. Buhari is expected to return to Abuja on Tuesday evening, according presidency sources.

APC is expected to hold a final meeting tonight to prepare for the elections of its principal officers of the National Assembly tomorrow.

PoliticsPrince Aladetoyinbo Emerges New Deji Of Akure Kingdom by wengerjay(op):
5Prince Aladetoyinbo, successfully emerged the new Monarch of Akure after beating twelve other contestants nominated by the Osupa ruling house last week Friday.

Saharareporters correspondent in Akure, who had been monitoring the selection process, reports that the new Deji-elect, who was elected on Sunday is a son to the immediate past head of the Osupa ruling house.

Already, a traditional rite for Prince Aladetoyinbo to ascend the throne of the Deji of Akure Kingdom is on going at the House of Chief Asemo of Akure.

It was gathered that the new Deji, Prince Kole Aladetoyinbo, who lives in Baltimore, United States of America, until his selection had earlier contested the throne before the reign of the deposed Oba Adesina Adepoju.

Several sources told Saharareporters that the embattled governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko is expected to present the instrument of office, including staff of authority to the new monarch on Monday.

The process of installing a new Monarch for the vacant stool of the Deji of Akure Kingdom in Ondo state had on Friday began with the screening of contestants' credentials and family background.

The installation process, held at the permanent residence of head of the Osupa ruling family, Adebimpe Ogunleye, in Akure, had in attendance all the contestants from the Osupa ruling family.

Thirteen Princes from the royal family had jostled for the vacant throne.

Popular among the contestants are: Kayode Oluwole, Oluwole Oguntuyi, Ade Falodun, Adeolu Adepoju, Femi Adejuyigbe, Adegbola Adelani, Leye Agbebi, Ojo Awimoro, Aladetoyinbo Kole Patrick and Agbebi Leye.

The process was fully monitored ‎by officials from the Akure South Local Government Area office who had initially written an official letter to the Osupa royal family for nomination.

Meanwhile, Saharareporters learnt that the deposed Deji of Akure, Prince Adesina Adepoju still shows interest in the vacant stool.

Prince Adepoju had gone to the High Court in Akure, through his lawyer Dapo Adepoju to seek an injunction restraining the state government, Kingmakers and the ruling house from installing a new king pending the determination of his suits.

On the 10th of June, 2010, the state government under the rulership of the embattled governor, Olusegun Mimiko banished Prince Adepoju for assaulting his late wife, Princess Bolanle Adepoju publicly
in Akure.

This led to the installation of Oba Adebiyi Adesida, from Ojijogun ruling family and was installed immediately, precisely 2010.

But Oba Adesida died on the throne on the 1st of December 2013 and reigned for three years.

He was the 46th Oba to the Deji's throne since the inception of the ancient town.

Late Adesida's first daughter, Adetutu nee Ojie was immediately installed as regent to occupy the throne pending a substantial king.

In the suit, exclusively made available to Saharareporters last year by the deposed Adepoju claimed that he still has access to the throne as he was wrongly removed from the stool by the state government.

Although, ‎his case was struck at the High Court in Akure but headed to the Appeal Court where judgment to the suit has been reserved.

PoliticsSpeakership: Gbajabiamila Wins APC Primaries by wengerjay(op): 5:07pm On Jun 06, 2015
Out of the 218 lawmakers in the APC caucus of the incoming house of Representatives, 154 have voted for Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila from Lagos state to emerge as the party’s candidate for the Speakership race.

The election held this Saturday at the International Conference Conference in Abuja.

Only 157 lawmakers-elect took part in the election however as scores of others had stormed out of the venue with their preferred candidate, Yakubu Dogara, when it became clear he was not going to win.

Of the 157 who took part, only three voted for Dogara.

So what does Dogara stand to gain by boycotting the elections and upsetting his party leadership?

The Bauchi lawmaker is playing a high stakes game where he is expecting the PDP lawmakers in the House of Representatives to back him.

To achieve this, he has dangled a carrot before them by reportedly choosing Leo Ogor, the former house whip and a member of the PDP as his deputy. The both of them are now expected to run on a joint ticket.

Now let’s do some maths.

If all 61 APC lawmakers who boycotted the election and did not vote; the three who voted for Dogara; the 121 PDP lawmakers and the 10 lawmakers who belong to Labour, APGA and Accord; all decide vote for Dogara, he will get a total of 195 votes which is well ahead of Gbajabiamila’s 154 votes.

All you need is a simple majority to become speaker.

(Jigawa still does not have lawmakers-elect as the elections did not hold there.)

So Dogara clearly believes he stands a fighting chance still. Of course there is no guarantee that he will win all those PDP, Accord, Labour and APGA votes.

But as long as he sees a chance he will remain in the race. And that will be driving the APC leadership mad

PoliticsTanker Crushes FRSC Boss, Family In Osun. by wengerjay(op): 4:10pm On Jun 04, 2015
Tragedy struck on Wednesday as a petrol tanker which lost control ran over the car conveying the Coordinator, Federal Road Safety Corps Special Marshal Programme in Osun State, Chief S. O. Adewale, his wife and another occupant.
Adewale died on the spot but his wife and the other occupant of the car, who some said was the deceased’s son, who suffered varying degrees of injuries, were rushed to the hospital.
Adewale was said to be going back to Ife, where he resided, from Owo, Ondo State, when the accident occurred.
The special marshal was said to have parked his car beside the main road at Owena market in Osun State to buy some few things from the market.
But an eyewitness told our correspondent that the fuel tanker, which was said to have suffered a break failure, lost control and ran over the car.
The deceased was an anchor of a popular weekly road safety programme on Osun State Broadcasting Corporation and was always at the forefront of road safety awareness.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Osun State, Mr. Mohammed Husaini, when contacted, confirmed the accident on the telephone to our correspondent.
The sector commander said, “I was told that he stopped at Owena market to buy some tubers of yam and a petrol tanker belonging to Total lost control and ran over his car.
“The accident involved the tanker, the deceased’s car and a motorcycle. But the man was the only one who died. He was confirmed dead at a hospital nearby. His body was moved to Wesley Hospital this morning (Thursday).
“It is unfortunate that he died just like that. He was the only one who died in the accident. His wife and son suffered injuries and had been taken to hospital for treatment. ”
Meanwhile, the sector commander has advised motorists to always abide by traffic rules and regulations, saying the commission would not relent in his efforts to ensure a strict adherence to the rules.
He said this during decoration ceremony of 13 officers of the command in Osogbo.
Hussein hinted that the commission would not condole any act of indiscipline while calling on officers and men of the command to desist from act capable of soiling the image of the commission.
Husaini charged the newly promoted officers to be upright and to be more dedicated in their duties.

PoliticsLet Me Nominate Your Minister, Fayose Urges Buhari. by wengerjay(op): 2:55pm On Jun 02, 2015
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to give him the privilege of nominating an Ekiti State indigene for appointment into Buhari’s cabinet.

Fayose, who was one of Buhari’s biggest opponents in the run-up to the March presidential election, said this in a statement on Tuesday.

The governor said he had written to Buhari and was hopeful that the President’s reply would be favourable.

Fayose said, “I shall be happy to nominate a worthy and competent professional, who can always oblige Your Excellency and your cabinet the benefit of a second opinion in the serious business of governance.”

He noted that he wrote the letter based on the declaration made by the President that he would put the overall interest of the country above every other particularly political partisanship and bias.

He said even former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, appointed the late Chief Bola Ige as the Minister for Justice despite Ige being a chief of the opposition Alliance for Democracy.

The governor also hinted that his letter was on the strength of Section 147 sub (2) and (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which states: (2) Any appointment to the office of the Minister of the government of the Federation shall, if the nomination of any such person to such office is confirmed by the Senate, be made by the President. (3) Any appointment under sub-section (2) of this section by the President shall be in conformity with the provision of section 15 (3) of this constitution provided that in giving effect to the provision aforesaid, the President shall appoint at least one Minister from each state, who shall be an indigene of such state.

Fayose, who noted that Ekiti is a PDP state, where the governor, the National Assembly and the state Assembly members are all PDP members, said in the spirit of putting in place an all inclusive government with capacity for national integration, the President should accord him the honour and privilege to name the minister that would come from Ekiti State.
PoliticsDon't Expect Miracles From Buhari - Akande by wengerjay(op): 11:34am On Jun 02, 2015
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Chief Ayo Akande, has told Nigerians to be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari and not to expect miracles from the new government.

Akande, according to a statement on Monday, gave the advice at the inauguration of Sheikh Sulaeman Husain as the new Chief Imam of Aguda Oke-Ira Muslim Community Central Mosque in Lagos.

He said the APC won the presidential election based on Buhari’s competence and integrity and that Nigerians should be hopeful of positive change in the new dispensation.

Akande said, “Nigerians should be tolerant and cooperate with the President to make their hope a huge success. Nigerians should not expect overnight miracles from President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“The next one year will be tough and sweet. For those who are willing to be disciplined, tolerant and adjust to present changes in our nation, it will be sweet for them but for those who cannot adapt to changes and still want to bask in the euphoria of the past it will be tough.”

The APC chief asked the Muslim community to pray for the success of the new government and also advised Islamic clerics to participate in politics in order to eradicate oppression of the poor caused by bad leadership.

He advised the Islamic clerics to emulate the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who joined politics despite being a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

He said the philosophy behind every religion was service to humanity hence clerics should bring their godly values to politics to improve humanity

“The defence of the rights and privileges of the ordinary man cannot be fully guaranteed except clerics also participate in governance and the administration of the country,” Akande said.

Saraki : Political office holders don't have to declare assets.
If Saraki should become the Senate President, both executive and judiciary arms of government may always be at loggerheads. And i see him contesting for presidency in 2019.
Therefore, the ardent supporters of GMB are not too comfortable with Saraki becoming the Senate President because of his seemingly arrogance and inordinate ambition.
Nevertheless, the best candidate should win.
