Governor Aliyu Babangida has backed out from the nPDP.He says he remains a bonafide member of PDP.
According to his media aide who spoke on behalf of the Gov on Channels tv news,he said the merger was hurriedly done and that he is stil looking forward to meeting President Jonathan in order to form a truce.
He however disassociated himself from other governors who have just announced their group's merger with the APC.

The crisis rocking the People's Democratic Party (PDP) may have finally reached a climax with the G-7 governors resolving to join the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). This comes barely 24 hours after President
Goodluck Jonathan chose to postpone a planned
meeting with the governors which was seen as a
make or break meeting. A source told a national newspaper that the
governors reached this decision in a meeting held
last night at the Kano State governors' lodge in
Abuja. The meeting ended at about 12.30am. But it was gathered that one of the seven
governors, Sule Lamido of Jigawa State may be
having great difficulty in making up his mind while
the remaining six governors have decided to take a
leap of faith and join the APC. The six governors that have made up their mind to
join the APC are Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Aliyu
Wamakko (Sokoto), Muazu Aliyu (Niger), Murtala
Nyako (Adamawa), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara)
and Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers). The development may also have a far reaching
effect on members of the ruling PDP in the National
Assembly and state assemblies with a large number

The Federal Government, yesterday,
condemned the new conditions which Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, insists must be met before the five-month old strike could be called off. The three conditions were payment of four months salaries, which accumulated during the period of the strike; immediate implementation of the N1.2 trillion offered by the government to public universities, starting with the release of N100 billion this year and the balance of N1.1 trillion to be spread over five years from 2014. The union also demanded that the salary arrears must not be paid in piecemeal. These were some of the resolutions reached by
members of the National Executive Council, NEC, of the union that met in Kano on Friday. President Goodluck Jonathan, who is on a trip
to London for Nigeria’s Honorary International
Investors’ Council meeting, has fallen ill and
could not attend opening session of the
meeting on Thursday. This was contained in a statement issued on
Thursday by the Special Adviser to the
President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben
Abati. The President, who marked his birthday on
Wednesday, has seen medical practitioners in
London and advised to rest for a few days. The statement reads: “In the course of his on-
going visit to London for a meeting of Nigeria’s

A faction of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) held yesterday a rally in honour of the late ex-president of the union, Prof Festus Iyayi. The faction, led by Prof Wahab Egbewole, is recognised by the university authorities but not the national body. When the national body got wind of the procession, it reportedly issued a statement banning any procession in honour of its ex- president. It added that it would not accept any attempt by the illegal group to desecrate Iyayi’s memory. But Egbewole argued that nobody could stop such a move to honour the memory of the departed. The lecturers marched from the union’s secretariat in the school premises to the university roundabout and back. Egbewole and other leaders addressed members and reporters. “Prof Festus Iyayi was president of ASUU in the thick of the military regime. He discharged his responsibilities selflessly; he did not take opportunity of that office as we have with some
leaders today. “He was not a representative of the caricature of leaders we have today. “Iyayi was a man, who cherished the rule of law; he was not someone to stay somewhere with a clique to say you have suspended or expelled someone. He also faced the persecutions of leadership. “At UNILORIN, we believe we are not against the leadership of ASUU, but it’s the one who does not want us. Articulate and progressive unionism is what we stand for and we shall continue to do this. “We are out in the sun today for Iyayi and we will do that for any other leader found worthy of such honour. Let them say whatever they like; they said we have been banned from organising this procession but we have just done it and that shows they don’t have our numbers.” Prof Albert Olayemi, ex-chairman of the union in the university, said: “We are today united in grief for the loss of our leader. Iyayi did not insist on continuing as president but here we have people who after 15 years want to continue. “This is the attitude we have here and which is against the position of the national leadership. It’s unfortunate that the national body is condoning such wrong attitude. “Unfortunately, what we have are mere cliques who have hijacked the union; no longer do we have the kind of selfless attitude that Iyayi had. “I do not think anybody has the right to deny us the right to do what we have done today. Yorubas from all over Ghana will converge on the Aviation Social Centre in Accra on Saturday,November 23, 2013 to mark the anniversary of the arrival of their ancestors in the Gold Coast 200 years ago. The Yorubas are an ethnic group found mainly in the western part of Nigeria. Some of their major towns are Lagos, Ibadan, Ilorin, Ogbomosho, Offa,Oshogbo, Abeokuta, Shaki, Oyo and Ijebu-Ode. In the colonial days, when the then Gold Coast and Nigeria were under British rule, people from both countries travelled to each other’s country as traders or public servants. The first group of Yorubas arrived in the Gold
Coast around 1813 and initially settled in such places as Accra, Kumasi and Sekondi before moving to the northern part of the Gold Coast, especially Tamale, Wa, Lawra and Nandom. On Saturday, the Head of the Yoruba Community in Accra, Chief Barrister Basiru Peregrino Brimah,who is acclaimed as the leader of the Yorubas in Ghana, will receive other heads of Yoruba communities in Kumasi, Sekondi, Koforidua, Ashiaman, Cape Coast, Tamale and other major towns in Ghana to commemorate the migration of
their ancestors to the Gold Coast. Expected in Accra for the great occasion are Alhaji Ahmed Rufai Alao III, the Head of the Yoruba Community in Kumasi, and his counterparts Alhaji Abdul Wahab Raheem from Koforidua, Alhaji Rahman Babatunde Ajayi from Ashiaman and Alhaji Abdul Salami Adeniyi Amao Saka from Kasoa. Other Yoruba leaders expected are Alhaji Shaibu Adebayo Bamijoko from Cape Coast, Alhaji Muhamadu Raji from Sekondi and Alhaji Ibrahim Bawa Yusif from Tamale, who will be accompanied by the Chairman of the Yoruba Community in the Northern Region, Mr Moses Oladele. has dissolved his body of Special Advisers, saying he wants to re-engineer his administration. Affected were Senior Special Assistants, Special Advisers and Special Assistants. There were over 50 Advisers, some of who were recently appointed. Governor Orji announced the dissolution at a
banquet he organized for the sacked advisers at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Umuahia. According to the Orji, the sack was not done out of malice but rather to reengineer government and inject new blood into the system. ”I will like to retain all of you and appoint more if we had all the money”, Orji said.
The governor promised that fresh persons would be appointed into the administration and also assured that former appointees who have done very well would be reappointed to tap from their experience. The Governor however advised those that will be
dropped not to behave like typical politicians who would start romancing with the opposition because of the sack. According to him, the sack was a normal thing in
government even as he made it clear that he was guided in arriving at the decision by public opinion. Orji disclosed that he has been under pressure todissolve the special advisers and assistants having earlier dissolved his commissioners. According to
him, those clamouring to taste governance have been on his neck to let them have a feel of the government.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC)
on Monday in Abuja inaugurated riding of bicycles
as means of transportation to reduce traffic on
roads. The Corps Marshal of FRSC, Mr Osita Chidoka, said
the inauguration was part of Africa Road Safety Day
2013 and World Day of Remembring Road Traffic
Crash Victims. Chidoka added that it was to raise awareness on
the need for people to make the best use of
bicycles. Chidoka, who was represented by Danjuma Garba,
Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Motor Vehicle
Administration, said the campaign was to show that
“riding of bicycles is a healthy physical exercise. “Physically, people live longer when they use
bicycles and the campaign is aimed at getting every
road user in this country to embrace the use of
bicycles. “This is necessary so that we have safer roads. In
terms of environment, riding bicycles would also
reduce pollution and traffic congestion’’, he added. He appealed to Government to provide road
infrastructure tailored toward accommodating the
rights of bicycle riders on high ways. The corps marshal also urged bicycle riders to ride
safely using their helmets and be in the right frame
of mind. The Chairman, Governing Board of FRSC, Mr Felix
Chukwu, said the inauguration was symbolic
because it drew people’s attention to the wisdom in
riding bicycles. Chukwu, who explained that the event was also to
remember victims of road accident, called for
conscious effort to encourage the use of bicycles in
the country. “When you ride bicycle, you are exercising yourself
and this habit of going from one little point to
another in a car should be discouraged. “With the bicycle, anybody can get to anywhere he
wants easily, you are reducing pollution and also
helping yourself”, he said. The chairman expressed the commitment of FRSC to
ensuring that the roads were safe and accidents
reduced to the barest minimum. The day, declared by the United Nations General
Assembly in 2004, is aimed at remembering victims

Italian back line, and Shola Ameobi turning in his
best performance yet in a Nigeria shirt, the African champions looked more than promising when they
had the ball. They dominated for lengthy periods of the first

and stretching the Azzurri defence at regular

Uneasy calm, Monday, pervaded Ijawland
following the death of Senator Tari Sekibo,
President of the the pan-Ijaw socio-cultural
organization, the Ijaw National Congress (INC). Though the cause of the death of the President of
the INC, aged 70, could not be immediately
ascertained, it was learnt that he slumped and died
Monday morning, ostensibly from heart related
ailment. Senator Tari Sekibo was reportedly rushed to the
Federal Medical Centre where he was pronounced
dead on arrival. Vanguard learnt that the late Sekibo, an Okirika
high chief from Rivers State was in Yenagoa ahead
of the planned executive council meeting of the INC
slated to hold at Ijaw House. The meeting, it was learnt was to deliberate and
take a position on the crisis rocking the Ijaw Youth
Council (IYC) worldwide which recent national
convention is now a subject of litigation. “We were to meet in Yenagoa and move to Port
Harcourt on Tuesday (today) to meet with
aggrieved IYC presidential aspirants and inform
them of our decisions. It is unfortunate that all the
plan would be set aside,” a member of the INC NEC
told Vanguard. When Vanguard visited the morgue of the FMC, it
was learnt that the corpse was deposited at about
12.30pm. According to a staff at the centre who pleaded
anonymity, the corpse was brought in a Bayelsa
government ambulance. Contacted on the development, the Publicity
Secretary of the INC, Pastor Victor Burubo,
confirmed the death of the President, Senator Tari

Ex-Ondo state Military Governor, Col Mike Torey has passed away. According to historical data, Lucky Mike Torey , a retired army officer was appointed as the military
administrator of Ondo by Sani Abacha between 93
and 94. He was later sent to Enugu to occupy the same
position till August 1996. Mike Torey‘s death was confirmed by his wife on Saturday morning. According to Mrs Torey, he passed away in the wee
hours of yesterday after a brief battle with an
undisclosed illness. In the past 50 days, Mike Torey is the 3rd Ondo State Governor to die. In September, Dr Olusegun Agagu slumps after returning to Nigeria from the United States of
America. Last month, Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe passed away in the United States of America after a long
